We visited tonight & our first visit won’t be our last. Loved all of the dishes we ordered and dessert. Lovely clean restaurant & immaculate toilets. Thank you Louise - you are wonderful!

Lovely quite restaurant to visit mid week. The paella was a 45-minute wait, but this was made clear on the menu and the staff. The fresh food dish is well worth waiting for indeed. Surprised was the warm vanilla cheese cake, which I can honestly say is the best I can remember for many years.

Poulton has always been a favourite of mine for eating out and this place did not disappoint. Excellent service from start to finish and very good freshly cooked tapas. Try the braised oxtail cheek. Melts in your mouth. Best I've ever tasted. Thank you Espanol for a great meal

A really horrible experience. On Saturday night my family and I went here for a meal. We live in poulton and have been here before and enjoyed it- not last night! When we arrived we were told we had a time limitation of 90 minutes for our meal, we were confused as we weren’t told this at the time of booking and we had booked their earliest time (5.30) to avoid the rush. We also know some dishes take 40 minutes to cook! We asked to move tables to another 4 seater closer to the window (as this would be easier for my dad post-chemo) and we were told this wouldn’t be possible, despite the fact nobody else had arrived in the restaurant yet. When we went to order food and we asked again about the time limit (my dad wanted to order steak with a 40 minute cook time), she said that we had until 7.30- which was actually over 90 minutes so we ordered. Once our dishes were served another member of staff asked (whilst we were still eating) if we were thinking of having desserts and said that he needed to know now and pointed to his watch! Clearly we didn’t order dessert! Once our plates were cleared and we were finishing off our drinks we were told we need to leave now as the next guests had arrived. This was 7pm- not what we were told when ordering the £42 steak an hour before…The waitress hung around awkwardly then so we didn’t even get to finish our drinks (as pictured below). The whole experience was horrendous. My mum and I went downstairs to pay and discuss with staff how we were feeling. The waiting staff who were also on the till said there was nothing they could do, other than try to inform people about the time limit when they booked (which we certainly had not had) and when I asked to speak to the manager they made it clear that he was busy and that was it! We paid our full bill and left. Having gone out for my dad’s birthday and celebrating the end of his cancer treatment I’m so disappointed it was such a horrible experience. I won’t be returning and will be informing everyone I know locally to avoid.

Fantastic as usual! The food was amazing, drinks were great (the Valencia sangria was the best). Although the service was a tad slow, and that was because it was such a busy night and the staff were understaffed, the Waitresses and Bartender were all very friendly, made you feel welcome and overall it was a lovely experince. I will dine here again x

Been here twice now, first times with friends where we had a variety of tapas, then recently just me and the wife, both times I’ve been extremely impressed with both the food and service, this time around, we had 3 tapas as starters, then shared the large steak with pastas bravas and a bowl of chips, probably the best steak I’ve ever had!

We went there with family. Really friendly staff. Food was amazing 🤩 Everything was hot and fresh made.

Booked our table for 19:15 for a family meal. Run out of one of the special starters but was still advertised on the specials board and had no prosecco. Apart from that service was great and the food we dud have was really nice.

If you like Tapas, Paella and Rioja this is definitely the place to go to.

Outstanding as always. Food portions are spot on for the theme of the restuarant. Every dish feels good value for money My favourite dishes are revuelto (chorizo and egg), the MASSIVE steak. Customer service is outstanding & polite.

I remember the first time I went to this restaurant because both the service and the food were incredible, I could really feel a little piece of Spain in Poulton. But the next 2 times I have gone, it has been really disappointing, not only because of the quantities of the tapas (which is normal being in the UK) but also the low quality of them. Burnt potato tapas, dry tortilla and really dubious taste, aspects that a Spanish person would find quite striking considering the price of the portions.

Great little tapas restaurant, I've visited plenty of times food is amazing can't wait to go back, recommended 100 percent. My partner is gluten intolerant and they cater for her perfectly never an issue plenty of choices.

Visited a few times over the last few years but last visit was disappointing and we was sat quite close to 3 other tables. Food is good and service

A party of 6 of us booked for 8pm, on arrival we were greeted and shown to our table, prompt drinks service followed by ordering food with the help of the waiting on staff. Everyone agreed the food was fantastic, various tapas and main courses. Service throughout the evening was impeccable, a fabulous night down to the quality of the food and service. Food at Espanol was delicious, highly recommend the paella! Staff were lovely, despite seeing a couple of negative reviews about staff. A bit more on the pricy side but taste and quality of the food was top notch!

It was my first time trying out the Piquillos Rellenos and certainly won't be the last, pleasantly surprised how delectable they were. The Mixta Paella did not dissapoint. It had a generous amount of meat + seafood on it and the flavours were balanced, very impressive. The Basque cheesecake was lush too, definitely worth all the calories! An ideal spot where you could hang out with the fam or friends while enjoying a fab feast. It's one of our fave restaurants in Poulton so please visit them if you're in the area, I highly recommend it.

Would 100% recommend!! The restaurant has a cosy and authentic Spanish feel, especially with the upstairs mezzanine being filled with fairy lights and foliage, almost as if you are enjoying an evening in Spain. They have Spanish music playing in the background, and the menus tell you the names of the dishes in Spanish as well as the description in English which I think caters to everyone! The staff are all super polite and chatty, and are all so helpful, offering recommendations to us, as well as being very attentive towards dietary requirements. The kitchen staff were happy to cater to our dietary requirements adapting dishes where they could, which sadly we don’t always find with restaurants. We had a few of the cocktails, and they were made quickly and tasted amazing. The food was brought out quickly which we were pleasantly surprised at seeing as how busy the resteraunt was, we started off with tapas and it was all cooked beautifully, I would 100% recommend the Spanish black pudding and the Ox Cheek, both were recommended to us and I tell you they didn’t disappoint!! We then had a Seafood Paella, and let me tell you - THE BEST PAELLA ABOUT !! Honestly tasted like we were at an authentic restaurant in the middle of Spain. We were so full we couldn’t finish all the paella, but the staff kindly packaged it up well for us to take home. If you are in or around poulton and haven’t tried this place you should definitely add it to the top of your list !!! We were very impressed.

Me and my partner went in on Saturday the 20th pf April. We ordered a variety of food off the menu and it was all brilliant. We can highly reccomend the Ox Cheek this was the standout. The service was excellent and we would highly reccomend.

Was excited to try this place and went with my daughter and also son and daughter- in -law who were up from London. They ordered a paella which on busy nights can take 45 minutes to a hour to prepare and says so on the menu.My daughter wanted 3 tapas dishes and I ordered the chicken and chorizo kebab.We stressed that they all arrive together. About 40 minutes later my daughter's dishes arrived and about 15 minutes after that mine and we hoped the paella would arrive soon.It did not so we chased it up and were told it would be another 10 minutes. It eventually arrived 1 Hr 30 mins after ordering and was rated nothing special .The three tapas dishes were fine and appeared good value but my kebab for the price was not having only a small amount of chicken and over cooked chorizo.The waitresses were overworked but pleasant and apologised for the wait.We did complain and were given a 50 % reduction on the paella however will not be visiting again.

Lovely restaurant with lovely food. Not ridiculously priced and a good amount of food in each tapas. The charcuterie board was enough for two as a starter and had a good selection of cheese and meats. Would recommend, we will be visiting again ! Thankyou for a lovely birthday dinner.

Fantastic Food, let down by the service! Sat waiting for drinks orders after ordering the food. Food for all was amazing however sadly the customer service was lacking in many areas, non attentive staff too the point we had to approach the front bar to order wine, just to make it clear we were sat on the table by the front door and next to the bar!!! Yet we still had to wait whilst the staff talked amongst themselves!!! Great food, lovely place just let down by the staff!!!

Went for a birthday meal and the food is fantastic. Very authentic and loved everything. Recommend the chorizo in red wine, ox cheek, chicken pieces. Only criticism is service was a bit inattentive.

Really great atmosphere inside, was really busy, the Tapas options are great. The ox cheek is amazing. Great service as always and the food was great too. Just an all round good experience.

We have avoided this wonderful restaurant for a long time thinking no veggie food but went and were blown away by the choices. The decor is brilliant and the food out of this world. The staff are friendly and the owner is superb...chatting and advising. Espanol is now on our must dine list.

Went midweek so it was pretty quiet, the food was excellent and service was very good, all in all we had a really nice evening.

absolutely ridiculous i have never had a ruder bartender in my life. unpolite, not doing anything, he looked like he couldn’t care less and treated his younger staff like muck off the bottom of his shoe on the other hand the younger staff were amazing and food was okay

Booked in advance and our table was ready as soon as we walked though the door. All the servers were incredibly attentive and Jake was lovely. Good was incredible and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going again.

The food was 👍. The atmosphere was a little loud and chilly. Not too happy with the high chairs and tables. Not particularly comfortable for me. We were told as soon as we sat at table it was ours till 7.30. Didn't particularly like feeling rushed.we had pre booked. Service was a little slow.

Staff friendly and attentive, food is AMAZING !! Easily best tapas around and the paella is really yummy. We didn’t wait long for food and drinks came quickly. Lovely authentic restaurant- an absolute must to try !

Went for dinner with my family and had the most amazing time! Waiters were very friendly and attentive, not to mention the food which was delicious! The restaurant itself is also lovely, with artwork painted by the chef herself! Highly recommend a visit :)

We made our reservation several weeks prior for myself and friends to catch up. We were seated downstairs near the door. The restaurant was very cold warmed only by a plug in heater. It was so cold notice of us removed our coats. We were told despite our appearance that we should have asked to be seated upstairs. Why, on cold evenings would you seat people near the door with inadequate heating when you could sit guests more comfortably. Staff not remotely interested

Food was delicious, I would return just for the bread and Ali oli! However, the service was slightly lacking. We were one of only 2 tables in the restaurant and it was quite slow service. The staff were drinking quite a bit and more interested in a table of regulars than us. We had to call them over several times for help. Slightly disappointed but we would return. Hopefully we will experience slightly better service next time!

Food was wonderful. Having lived in Spain back in the 70's I know my stuff and the food at Espanol is absolutely " Top Notch " Lovely warm atmosphere, friendly staff, I can't recommend Espanol Restaurant any more highly. *****

This was my second time visiting the restaurant, after the first time the food really disappointed me unfortunately the second time was the same. The tapas dishes are over priced for what they are and the potato’s bravas is just boiled potatoes laid on a plate no presentation. You can tell the food is bought it as cheap as possible and made with minimal effort. It’s a real shame because the restaurant has potential to show off some amazing Spanish cuisine but unfortunately the food lets them down every time. Staff really friendly, and drinks good.

80% of the food was fantastic and good quality, home cooked. However the staff let the place down massively, non-existent service, we watched the staff drinking alcohol and chatting under the bar, going out for cigarettes and playing on their phones whilst the 3 tables upstairs were sat waiting for ages. I would go back yes, but only if the staffing and service issues were sorted because the food and setting was nice but the service problems completely ruined our experience so until then we will take our business to the other numerous restaurants in the area that care about their customers. Not impressed.

The restaurant came recommended but was a huge disappointment. The food wasn’t too bad but wasn’t amazing, prawns were tasteless, best thing was the Ox Cheek. The service was a disaster! The staff had to be begged to come over to the table, you have to get up and walk down stairs and ask them to come to the table, the staff have no idea about the menu, no training whatsoever. We now live in Spain and are fluent in Spanish, but they ask you to order the dishes in English - despite being in Spanish on the menu. Staff were not even busy, they were on their phones on social media, arguing with each other and talking about colleagues (slagging off) and to top it all off they were stood around drinking booze rather than serving the customers. Some of the staff stunk of cigarettes which was off putting. Definitely won’t be back or recommend.

Thought we would try the restaurant as we are fans of Spanish food. Very quaint almost Spanish village setting, which was nice. When we arrived the table wasn’t ready and we were invited to sit in the bar area. Staff were apologetic on the wait. We waited some 20 minutes for drinks though, which was disappointing given we ordered two bottles of wine which ought to be straight forward. We were brought some bread and Ali oli, however the bread wasn’t warmed, which was a little disappointing. The food on the whole was good, although some dishes lacked seasoning. The Ox Cheek was fantastic. The service was however lacking. We had to seek the attention of the staff a number of times for additional drinks and dessert. The dessert was brought and we were not provided anything to eat them with, nor was the table cleared of our mains dishes. Staff were too busy kneeling down behind the bar on social media and making each other alcoholic drinks, cleaning and stocking the bar and not at all concerned with or attentive towards customers. Overall, food was good, service very poor. Worth a visit for the food, but be prepared to be disappointed on the service front.

Family night out. Tried some new dishes from the specials board & the Fabada de Austuria was absolutely delicious, perfect for a chilly autumn evening. Service was spot on. Everything arrived in good time. Will return again.

Very good food. Organisation sadly lacking. We knew, being the first sitting on a Friday night that we only had the table for 1.5hrs, but we were told we had it all night as someone had cancelled, so we slowed down. We were just about to order another bottle of wine, when we were told we'd have to vacate our table because they'd had another booking. Make your minds up. We've either got the table for the night or we haven't. They were apologetic and didn't charge us for the wine, but it sort of ruined the evening.

Took a chance on getting a table early on a Friday evening and we were lucky as the restaurant was full when we left later. Food was excellent, hot & promptly delivered. Good service with friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Exceptional Tapa's. I've been to a fair few Tapa's resturants over the years and this is the best one by far. It can work out and expensive evening but well worth it. Friendly and attentive staff, good food and good wine - what more could I ask for?

After an hour and a half wait I had to ask if our starters would be long! The waitress didn’t apologise for our wait just said she’d go and check! They came out not long after but the mushrooms were luke warm, my husbands chicken ok, then 2 mins later she brought out our mains too!! Obviously we we’re still eating the starters! Anyway we were so hungry we didn’t say anything- when we went to pay the bill they asked if everything had been ok, I said the food was good but unfortunately it was too long too wait, the barman just said but was the food ok? I felt like they should have offered us a free drink or knocked a round off the bill for the inconvenience but they just didn’t seem to care!! I don’t think it was dealt with very professionally and I won’t go back because of it/ I realise staff are busy but equally they must look after their customers more!!!!

Delicious food and excellent staff! Not been before and went in without a booking. Couldn’t fault the food, service or ambiance. Everything was perfect. Relaxed and informal and comfortable. Staff were very pleasant and genuine. We will definitely be back.

Food was amazing, especially the Piquillo Rellenos and the Sobrasada. The drinks were delicious. The staff were lovely and helpful. I will definitely be coming back for more!

Update: went back again Mar 2023 still blown away by the quality of the food served here. Really cannot say enough good things about this place. Found this absolute gem last night .. went with the other half for a spontaneous date night .. couldn't have picked a better place .. we ordered 7 dishes from the tapas menus and we were not disappointed. All dishes were served piping hot and tasted amazing. We had the stuffed peppers, battered chicken, a chorizo, potato and egg dish and black pudding with feta cheese just to name a few of the dishes .. now I'm not a fan of black pudding it was the other half that ordered them but I tried it and it was one of my favourite dishes of the night. Staff were friendly, helpful and gave good recommendations. We will definitely be going back there soon I hope

Absolutely fantastic tapas, very tasty and well presented. Really pleasant and helpful staff. Our lovely waitress recommended certain tapas which we tried and they were all delicious. We go to Spain regularly but these were better than any tapas we’ve had in Spain! Will definitely be back and certainly recommend to our friends.

The food here is excellent, so to give this place another try after really poor service the first time we went. Unfortunately, it seems like this is standard! We made sure to place our order ASAP and after an hour we had nothing. We then asked how long it would be and watched the waitress laugh when she realised she’d forgot our order. If it wasn’t late at this point we would have left to go elsewhere. Really disappointed as we love the food but it really ruined the night ..

Shocking service, the male behind the bar took 35 minutes to do 4 drinks, constantly going out to the kitchen area for ages, then came back stinking of cigarettes, overpriced average food. There were 2 young waitresses who stood chatting and laughing, while ignoring the customers, they where rude, and lazy. Don't waste your money!

We have been coming to Espanol for years and usually spend every Christmas Eve here. Since having a child we have not been able to get there so a very rare night off meant we booked a table for last night. As soon as we arrived we noticed the atmosphere was not as welcoming as normal and were put on the high stools by the door to dine. We were told they had a large party in who had all the menus so could not offer us one. This large party that turned out to be just 9 people was mentioned several times to us and the table next to us and we realised they would be the main priority for the evening. We had our drinks order taken but no drinks appeared. We were given 1 menu and they came to take our order. Before we could start ordering the waitress asked if we were just ordering tapas. We said we were planning to order the chuleton- the most expensive meal on the menu. The flippant response was “our large party of 9 have just reserved them all” We did something we’ve never done before and decided to walk out. We were so disappointed with the service from the moment we walked in. The restaurant seems to lack it’s authentic charm but had more a feel of a wine bar. I can’t argue that the food is delicious as it was always my favourite and I have recommended to a lot of people. However, based on service alone we will never go there again.

The server we had was very friendly however we had to wait a long time for food and drinks to come. Waiting around 50 minutes from ordering our second set of drinks and desert to get any of it totally let the night down. Food was mediocre with 2 great dishes (black pudding with goats cheese and the ox cheek) 4 of us unfortunately left with a sour taste, empty wallet and still going home hungry.

I can see from the other reviews this is probably not normal but we had the worst experience. When i say we waited 1hour 50mins for our food this is no lie. We got our food just before 10 o'clock. I have no idea what...

I love everything Spanish, but Tapas in the UK is just too expensive. The food was good and for 4 people having 3 dishes each at £8 each approx,including a bottle of red and a couple of beers was £150. service was good so no complaints there.

Some of the best food I have ever eaten. The staff are fantastic and couldn’t do more for you. The atmosphere is incredibly authentic and very chill. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

Great place to go. At first I felt that service was a little unfriendly but soon changed my opinion of that. The food was lovely (can highly recommend the Ox cheek dish!) although it did turn out to be quite expensive but then, I think that is usually the case with Tapas. It's a bit unfair to rate the atmosphere really as we were there as it opened and there really wasn't anyone else in there for most of the time that we were. Although they were clearly on for a busy night as they had to keep turning people away due to being fully booked. Would certainly recommend to anyone in the area and would happily return if we were back in the area.

Welcoming staff and exceptional food made this visit a fantastic experience. Chose the tapas options rather than bigger main courses. Everything was cooked to perfection.

Went here for our 10th anniversary as the Missus likes it-I had never been here before. After discovering there was only THREE main meat meals on the menu, and a couple more on the "specials" board, I opted for Chicken Pieces Canarian Style. We were brought two mini rolls and butter whilst we waited for our mains. When it turned up, the Missus was delighted, me not so much! The chicken "pieces" were in fact chicken drumsticks (I hate meat on the bone, and NEVER order it! ), but also they had no flavour whatsoever! And the side portion of wedges were covered in garlic mayo-something that wasn't mentioned on the menu, nor desired! In fact, I have a VERY strong dislike of the smell of garlic! I asked the very young waitress surely there are drumsticks, not pieces, but she just shrugged her shoulders. The Missus hates it when I complain, and so to please her on our special nite, when the bill came and I was asked if everything had been OK, I simply replied "Well....", but got no response-it was like they asked the question and then just switched off. The Missus really enjoyed her tapas, so that's the main thing. As for me, I had a cheese butty at the next bar we went to 👍

Update: went back again Mar 2023 still blown away by the quality of the food served here. Really cannot say enough good things about this place. Found this absolute gem last night .. went with the other half for a spontaneous date night .. couldn't have picked a better place .. we ordered 7 dishes from the tapas menus and we were not disappointed. All dishes were served piping hot and tasted amazing. We had the stuffed peppers, battered chicken, a chorizo, potato and egg dish and black pudding with feta cheese just to name a few of the dishes .. now I'm not a fan of black pudding it was the other half that ordered them but I tried it and it was one of my favourite dishes of the night. Staff were friendly, helpful and gave good recommendations. We will definitely be going back there soon I hope

We all enjoyed our food and one waitress served use extremely well. Unfortunately, she was badly let down by the other waitress who spent a lot of time flirting with the barman.

Visited on the 21st Dec. with 2 other friends. Had starters , main and drinks. Restaurant was cold with little ambience. Starters were average and the draft Estrella was flat and not kept well. We had Paella for 3 costing nearly £40, the portion was small, barely enough for 2 persons containing little Chicken and Chorizo. Unfortunately, cannot recommend.
