£6.50 for a child’s lunch box is a bit much . granted it has several items in but to be honest you could reduce the content by the yoghurt and aim for a £5 charge? I found the tomato soup extremely salty so altogether a little disappointed. rest of hot food looked good .

£9.25 for a very average panini with a few crisps is extortionate. Staff are impersonal and mildly stressed. Children’s lunchbox meals ok value for money. Coffee mediocre, and again expensive. I like the Arboretum- but go elsewhere for food.

Lovely cafe with nice warm dishes! The foccacia and the soup was great :)!having the cakes before the cashier could have been better and had to wait quite a lot but it was lovely! Having more staff and better queuing system would help a lot! (If only cold dishes you can go straight to cashier etc)

We visited this place after a lovely visit to the gardens. We just wanted a coffee and cake. A couple in front of us were taking their time on deciding on what Sunday roast they wanted. So we skipped around them to order our drinks only to be greeted a few minutes later by a very RUDE member of staff who started shouting at us for not waiting.. I was extremely embarrassed and upset and we walked out. It completely ruined my day out. I’ve tried several times to get in contact with you, but I’ve not been very successful.

£28 for a single ham and cheese Panini, a bowl of chips, cake and a soft drink felt very overpriced, for a collect your own food canteen. The Arboretum is great and the facilities are modern. It just felt like value for money seemed way off here. On the plus, the staff in the restaurant were very helpful, and there’s plenty of seating with modern furnishings and a nice outdoor space. Not a lot of space to navigate between tables with a pram of pushchair though.

Very nice outside terrace, which we thought would make a lovely stop on our walk, for coffee. Unfortunately the coffee lacked any flavour and was very watery. At £11.20 for two coffees and one scone, its not cheap either. As previously mentioned, to be asked if you would like to give a tip when paying is quite insulting as its self service! I certainly won't be rushing back.

Four of us arrived at 11.01 to be told breakfast finished at 11.00. We actually watched them take the food away. We asked if they were throwing it away but they said they would reheat tomorrow. Point blank refused to serve it to us. Lunch starts at 12 . If we hadn’t have been so hungry after our 1.5 mile walk to get there we’d have left. At least 12 other people did exactly that. Had very nice but ridiculously expensive coffee and cake. Never have we come across such blinkered customer service. They had the food, we wanted to buy it but apparently it was inconvenient! Separate to the garden centre and arboretum itself which is beautiful. Such a shame they didn’t put the customer first.

Unless you like being treated like cattle to slaughter, don't bother going! The worst service I've seen & had in years. Firstly, I made the mistake of trying to order food at 11:53 and was turned away, saying I had to wait until noon to order food. Drinks only until then. Even after explaining I would be happy to order the 7 minutes ahead, then wait for the food as i had to leave my disabled husband to get back in line, "no next" was the answer! Also, couldn't leave the coffees then jump back in the queue so by the time I took drinks to the table then returned to order, the queue was out the cafe. If that's not bad enough, two elderly ladies that had tried to pay for self serve drinks at the checkout rather than stand in the long food service line were told they were jumping queue and sent to the back even though a minute later the staff yelled out, anyone with drinks only , pay here! When I finally got our food (after trying several times to clarify vegan as opposed to gluten-free to the staff) and check out, the woman serving repeatedly angrily told me to move my tray to the cashier even though she could clearly see there was another couple with their tray still there. She even reached across to try & push it herself while the couple tried to hurry to get out of the way! I was so distressed I started to cry & just wanted to get away with our food as fast as possible. I would have left it all but I was so worried they would start shouting. Never again will we go & we are letting our neighbours that recommend the place know how dreadful we were treated.

NAAFI style "canteen", self-service ordering. Having ordered our lunch with the girl behind the counter we progressed to the young chap serving teas & coffees. Order placed he presented us with their card machine which included an option to add A TIP !!!! When asked exactly what "extra" service warranted this emotional blackmail Y was met with a shrug and advised to "just ignore it". New levels of greed, and exit two former regular customers.

It's had a revamp since my last visit, I thought it was on the pricey side before. After today I shan't be returning. £9 for soup with bread. £10 for paninies, £9 for a child's meal and if I wanted one of the hot options for lunch it was £15 or £17 or a small slice of chocolate cake for jusf over £5. Normally I call in after visiting the market on a Tuesday, going forward I will use a cafe or pub in the town. The revamp looks lovely and staff friendly enough but doesn't justify the pricing.

Espresso is simply undrinkable. I asked for a less strong cut and the waitress / cashier said it was the same price eitherway? ....????? Like liquid coffee to its full.....waste of money and ruined the flavour of the cake. Poor service at the till. Had to move along without my hot drinks, whilst holding the saucers. Then a guy Was being served and she handed it over in an awkward position. Why don't they serve coffee at the end? They used to have more senior, experienced staff, now they have kids thinking you're trying to save a penny when you simply want an espresso that is drinkable

Yesterday in the Garden Terrace Cafe I had the worst soup I have ever experienced in my life. It was meant to be Parsnip & Apple, not a combination I would normally choose but thought I'd give it a go. To say it was revolting is a gross understatement. It resembled a cross between pureed baby food and apple sauce and was so thick you could have used it to hang wallpaper. I left it after 3 spoonfuls. I have eaten in this cafe several times over recent years (usually because it is a convenient meeting place with friends) and have to say I have always found the food to be pretty underwhelming and over-priced. It was not an enjoyable lunch and I would be very reluctant to return.

The shortage of chocolate products may have impacted on this restaurant? Despite charging a hefty £4.45 for hot chocolate made with oat milk; the meagre spoonful in the mug hardly coloured the water. Thinking that it needed a good stir, it still left the drink tasteless and insipid.

Service is quick and friendly, location is stunning. However, the food isn't great. The paninis were not cooked properly and came with soggy bread. They rather bizarrely don't use proper (whole) milk for their hot drinks; they only offer low fat semi-skimmed milk, which makes it impossible to make proper milk-based coffees such as a cappuccino or latte as low fat milk doesn't ever get the right consistency or flavour. It's a shame as the quality of the food and drink somewhat ruin what is a lovely venue. I'd pop in for a cold drink in future but nothing else. Their card machine also makes you select how much you would like to 'tip' as a percentage; a bizarre American custom which I've never seen before in the UK. I certainly won't be tipping for self-service food in a canteen-type environment, very much not cricket. Two easy fixes for management to make; remove the 'tip demand' at the till, buy proper milk and use that as the default for coffees. Soggy paninis will require further investigation of the cause before a solution can be recommended.

Nice choice of brunch items & cakes, soft drinks etc You now can’t bring your dog to the counter, little difficult when on your own. A very nice young lad ( from the cafe) very kindly held on to my dog ( now my dogs best pal 😂) while I chose items at the counter ( my dog is a Cockapoo & would have caused chaos left by the table alone). The young girl at the till directed me to the dog bowl & came straight over with water as bowl was empty & a treat for my dog. May Avocado, poached egg on Focaccia was delicious , as was the Rhubarb drink ( not seen this variety before) Thank you for making this a lovely experience after a nice walk through the fields & we shall be back.

We regularly visit the café at Batsford for breakfast as we have an annual arboretum pass. We reckon their bacon brioche baps (£5.50) are excellent. On this occasion, we had a vegan with us and she was offered the halloumi and avocado bap as a vegan option (£8.50) .She very much enjoyed it. Apart, from that not much on the menu was suitable for vegans and it would be good if they could improve their offering and make it clearer on the menus. The coffees were of the usual high standard and service at the self-service counter was pleasant. I do think offering customers the option to tip at a self-service restaurant is unnecessary as I would hope staff are paid a fair and reasonable wage in the first place.

Batsford is a gorgeous arboretum and highly recommended any time of year. The refurbished cafe is a bonus as the old one was truly horrible. The new cafe has a delightful setting and is well thought out. Spacious and clean and a beautiful terrace. However the cost of the food is expensive and therefore when we ordered 'fishfinger' sandwiches for lunch at a cost of about £14 each we expected a lot more. Firstly fishfingers were not delivered. Instead it was some kind of flat fish in heavy batter and hardly any internal fish and very poor taste. The bread was not good quality and the garnish was poor. Then a big pile of awful chips. Sorry, but how hard is it to serve a fishfinger sandwich ???? I truly think this is not good to serve a substitute either and a bit of a cheat. We will return to give it a second chance and hopefully this part of the menu will be 100 per cent improved by then.

Simply do not eat here. The prices are high which I would be happy with if the quality matched but it is honestly awful. Our kids had nuggets (plural) and chips with beans at £8.95 each plus a small coke in a glass bottle at £2.80 each. They we served one single chicken strip that was so over cooked it had gone hard and curled. The chips were dried and so were the beans, it had obviously been left to sit under a heat lamp. The food on display under the heat lamps was also dry (shouldn't have been as was semi busy) and really expensive. The only reason I gave this a two star was the cafe itself is nice although why would you make it dog friendly as thats all you hear. We also had a ham and cheese panini which was ok but again hugely overpriced for something you can make at home. Wish we ate at Broadway Tower on the way instead.

This is just a beautiful, clean place to go. The cakes are always so fresh and the staff most friendly and welcoming. I do have to agree that we go here on a regular basis being local but I do think that it rather spoils our visit when there are so many dogs and they are all barking once one starts, you have to literally shout across the table to your husband as it was just too much noise. I am a dog owner and I understand some people don’t like leaving their dogs in the car but I feel that even though it wouldn’t stop the noise bogs should be at the far end of the restaurant as not all people like dogs around their tables whilst eating food. Bit of a shame that this does spoil a visit as apart from this it really is lovely. Y

Went for breakfast in the updated Garden Terrace Café, as always the staff were helpful and friendly, unfortunately the café appears to have turned into a subsidiary of Battersea Dogs Home. There were dogs of all shapes and sizes and, as is usual with dogs (I'm an owner), once one starts barking the rest are inclined join in. We've been visiting Batsford regularly for many years and in it's previous incarnation there were covered outside seating areas where dog owners could sit with their pets. Although many of the owners tried to keep their dogs quite it seemed to be a losing battle resulting in most of the visitors suffering. Batsford is a great place to walk dogs but an indoor café isn't the right location for howling hounds. Good food, good coffee but a poor environment.

Very disappointing, tea served in paper cups and wooden cutlery. Wasn’t aware that Covid prevented washing pots and cutlery. Very expensive for mediocre food.

We arrived at 1.30pm to have scones and tea but they had already run out of scones which seemed poor stock control to have run out before people start coming in for afternoon tea. There was no service at the table and you had to...

We stopped for lunch at about 1 pm and had tea and tuna & cucumber sandwiches. There were quite a lot of cakes available but no scones. We chose to sit inside as it was quite breezy outside. The sandwiches were pre-prepared and in a...

Having walked all round the excellent arboretum we had a light lunch here, which was very good. Luckily there was little or no queue and we ate outside on the terrace, which was very pleasant. The mozzarella paninis were generous, with crisps and a good...

Very busy when we called in but hot meal (hake) was good, but had a few bones in. Tasty vegetables and liked the potatoes with cheese. Friendly staff and is a dog friendly café and has a large outside seating area

Boy it was crowded when we arrived. Just managed to get an indoor table when we had obtained our food. Meals were good value and the service was very pleasant. Nice range of vegetables served with the vegetarian quiche.

We walked from Blockley to the arboretum for lunch. It was a beautiful mild fall day. After selecting our food from the enticing selection of items available through the cafeteria line, we decided to dine outside. Not only was our food delicious -- the vegetarian...

Visited for afternoon tea. The food was bad. Like not inedible but nothing more. Wonderful grounds and room done aesthetically. Avoid for sure. Unless you are going for just a drink. Then maybe not too sorrowful a visit.
