Gaerwen Fish And Chip Shop in Isle of Anglesey

This fish and chip shop is absolutely absurd!!. my girlfriend had the batterd sausage and it was still moving i swear!!!. The sausage i had looked like a foreskin!! it was so dry i had to buy water that was £3.500 a bottle i am very dissapointed

£6.50 for a small portion of chips and jumbo sausage and can of Fanta Best thing was the cold Fanta The chips were awful The sausage just warm Never again for me I threw away most of the food

Havent been here for food in years. The new menu is great. Pizzas, burgers, kebabs, as well as you expect chippy items. The donner meat on chips was lovely. Chicken fillet burger also great. They do take card payments. Will be back as ive heard the pizzas are nice aswell

Some silly comments on here! Not only does this chip shop most certainly take cards, they cook fish to order! Always fresh, well drained and crisp. Chips are also well fried, none of the pale ones that seem to be in fashon. A proper traditional fish n chips

Phoned to place order. Upon arrival informed that cash was the only acceptable payment method - doubtless very tax efficient but unhelpful if you then need to locate a cashpoint. The food was frankly awful: the fish was grey and scant, the batter was soggy congealed and thick and the chips anemic, mushy and squidgy. No one ate every much apart from the dog who was subsequently sick.

I had a chicken burger and the bun was burnt and everything else was tasteless, my work mate had Sausage and chips and he said the chips look overcooked and heated up.

Just nipped down to get some food on the website says closes at 8 it’s now 1949 and it’s already closed as the picture shows

Really friendly and welcoming. We had 2 Cod and a small portion if chips. The quality of the fish was excellent and the batter really crispy and nice. Handy to have off road parking too.

Local family that have always meant to try the Gaerwen chippy since we our usual is Llanfairpwll. They have very unusual opening times so when we tried before they’ve always been closed! By chance we walked past and they’re open so we thought why not and ordered one large and one small chips. When putting the order together the woman seeing starts slathering the chips with salt and vinegar before asking if we wanted any, my partner said ‘no salt and vinegar please!’ The woman looked confused said ‘okay’ and then put the already coated chips BACK IN WITH THE OTHER CHIPS BEING KEPT WARM?! When we got home we couldn’t tell which was the ‘large’ as they were both the same size portion and one was half filled with the scraps from the bottom of the fryer. The rest of the chips were hard and dry. We’d been so excited to try this chippy especially as locals but we were throughly disappointed.

Great chippy , always get lightly battered fish. Large portions to. Friendly service.highly recommend............

Visited here in April & will be visiting again. These were honestly the best fish & chips we have had in a long time, and I would recommend that you give them a try. There were 5 of us & we all agreed on how good they were. My husband & brother in law went into the shop & said that the staff were very nice.

Stopped off on the way through due to being ravenous...chips & curry,chips & gravy,2 cokes...nearly £10. Rediculous price for mediocre fast food. Welcome to Anglesey!

Being on a weeks holiday in Anglesey, we went pass this chippy a few times, decided why not give it a go. Its only a small chip shop so menu is small. I asked for southern fried chicken and chips, with one extra piece of chicken as i only eat a small amount, No couldnt do this, as from what i could gather its a "set menu" and didnt have the extra chicken to sell(she said) , was a bit of confusion, as I thought she meant they had no SFC at all , ok then ill have fish and chips, no problem. The lady said so you want SFC and chips AND fish and chips, no I wanted one or the other , I said you just told me You had no chicken to sell...???? She didnt seem to be happy with me, as when she relaid the order to the "cook"( i use the word loosly) all in welsh. Yes I know im in wales, I do expect people to speak welsh but her tone was rude!!!! I then asked for curry sauce and peas. Total £14.80, thinking it must be great to be able to charge that price, how wrong was I!!! After waiting for food to cook she handed me my bag, oh sorry You forgot the curry sauce and peas I said, YOU DIDNT ASK she replied. I just paid £6 for 2 portions of SFC and chips £1.40 PEAS £1.40 CURRY SAUCE . Total £14.80 so yes I had asked or was she just added things to my bill because i was a holiday maker . "Here, just go!!!" She said. Got back to holiday accomdation, well didnt manage to even eat half the food Chips, under cooked, soggy, black bits on, Chicken, skin was soggy The fat they "showed" the food to was not clean and not hot enough. Im in catering so I know exactly whats what when comes to cooking food. If I hadnt been so annoyed I would of gone back!! All went in the bin !! NEVER AGAIN. So English holiday makers beware this is a "welsh chippy for welsh people"

I can definitely say - the BEST fish & Chips around!! Me and my son stopped here on a long bike ride in the rain (wasn’t rainy when we started out!) The owner was so friendly and nice. We told her we were competing a cycling challenge for my sons local football team and she gave my little boy extra chips as a well done! Lovely little place, and like I say - flippin’ gorgeous fish n chips!!

i went in and bought a portion of chips with curry sauce a pie and a can of coke, the total bill was close to £10 i was shocked at how much it cost. also when i started eating the chips they looked and tasted like they had been cooked twice as if they were done again first experience wasnt the best, will not be going here again i can promise you that.

We used to really enjoy the chips from here. Sadly they are now far from ok and greatly overpriced for such poor quality. Such a great shame because years ago they were the best tasting chips around. Extremely greasy batter and on cutting into it I found lots of empty space where fish should have been. The chips were hard, quite dry and unappealing. We will definitely go elsewhere from now on.

Greasy chips,overcooked fish,mushy peas were ok. Spent a lot here as part of a big family group. Wouldn't go back again.

Stopped here for some lunch as I was so hungry. Fish was cooked to order so was piping hot but a little greasy. Chips were nothing special. An okay lunch but just average for the price.

great find when travelling around the island good sized portions highly recommend .as for some of the previous reviews with the staff speaking to each other in welsh -if you were in a Spanish shop bar restaurant etc your order would be taken in english then the waiting on staff would continue to talk to each other in their native tongue to which you would probably think how "authentic" it is .and some of the complainers would also try to engage with the spanish stall in a very poor spanish .please do not think that we are ignorant in speaking our own language in our own country Dw i'n dysgu Cymraeg yng ngholeg Cambria

Stopped here for a quick tray of fish and chips at lunchtime. Externally the place doesn't look any different from any other village chippy, inside was much the same. But what I wanted was fish and chips and boy did I get fish and chips! I've never tasted gourmet fish and chips but I doubt that they would be any better than what was offered at this unpretentious establishment. Unlike some other reviewers who have given a poor review solely on the language spoken by the staff, I am reviewing the fare provided. I wonder if the reviewers would criticise the staff in a pizzeria in Naples for speaking Italian.

We are holidaying in Beaumaris with my parents and followed trip advisor recommendations and drove over to Gaerwen for fish and chips. Despite looking an unassuming establishment these are the best fish and chips we have had in years - cooked to order and excellent value for money - would definitely recommend ,

We were recommended to go to this chip shop whilst staying in llandaniel fab- what a mistake. The staff could not have been more ignorant, no greeting, spent the whole time speaking Welsh and giving us dirty looks. Food as disappointing as the staff and expensive too- DO NOT GO!

Had fish and chips three time on the 27/7/18, the staff seem to be friendly until we ordered our food, then the staff started talking Welsh,the food it's self was greasy after reading reviews some good some bad, we all decided that decision of our food was not good,if they used beef dripping the food they serve might taste better .

We are a family who always love to give praise and credit where it is due but in this case we have nothing good to say. We chose this chip shop as a change for our fish supper. First we were met with a member of staff who hadn't even the decency to greet us. Then once she realised we were English, proceeded to speak to her friend in Welsh and continued to ignore us which is the height of ignorance!

Had a pie and chips here-quick stop while out working in the community. Was okay,chips a bit dry but okay with plenty if ketchup! Bit pricey at about £4:50 for pie and chips i felt but i don’t visit chippies often so it might be an average price. I’d probably visit again-nice polite staff.

This is a small village Takeaway fish and chip shop, the staff were very friendly and very helpful and the fish and chips were first class

Buscamos un buen pescado y chips de Anglesey antes de nuestras vacaciones en mayo de 2016. Este no es el lugar más fácil de encontrar. El personal era bastante agradable, sin embargo, nos quedamos decepcionados con la calidad de la comida, en particular las patatas fritas. Parece que la mayoría de los entusiastas de los lugareños, son que la comida y están dispuestos a pagar los precios relativamente altos. Tal vez hemos sido estropeada en casa pero me temo que las patatas fritas son la media. Habiendo dicho eso, el pescado estaba muy bien.

Me gustaría que me vea como un serio y crítico de comida comida vlogger que toma muy en serio los comentarios. No exagero, no de cualquier manera. Cómo digo las cosas es cómo es... mis críticas se basan únicamente en mi propia experiencia y nadie más.

Fish - fresh cooked while you wait.

A juzgar por las otras críticas deben haber sido tener un día. El pescado era realmente bueno, pero fue destruido por la pasta, que era asqueroso, guisantes higiénicos tibios aguados y patatas fritas. Se les dará otra si estamos pasando ... sin duda no puede ser peor?

Chips and Sausages were Marvelous, very friendly Staff. Clean and Tidy. I do strongly recommend a visit! Please open on the Sunday!!

Fabulous fish and chips, pre- ordered for 7 people and ready in the time it took to drive from 3 miles away. A busy, busy place but came up with the goods! Crispy batter, creamy fish and chips galore! Thank you Gaerwen chippy! Happy Christmas.

Un pequeño chip shop, personal amable y comida fresca. Normalmente tienen el pescado y las patatas fritas, el pescado estándar es muy grande y así son las patatas fritas que normalmente terminar compartiendo una con mi pareja y nos alimenta tanto fácilmente.

We had fresh fried cod and chips, cooked to order, which were excellent. Oh, and a pie to share between us both.

Had a lovely 9 nights on the Island self catering, so the 1 night treat of fish and chips was an important choice for the family.After reading reviews on tripadvisor I talked the family into going to Garwen chippy.Mistake.We went shortly after opening and although served quickly when we got the food back we were faced with an off putting dripping of yellow fat all over the paper and then the plates from the fish, the chips were also dry and not any salt and vinegar on them.2 fundamentals .. Have the oil hotter for the fish, don't rush them as a ten minute wait is far better than a plate of fat, and when putting salt and vinegar on don't pile the chips in a container, the salt and vinegar will runoff. Open the chips up in the paper then close.Also strive towards upping the food hygiene rating from 3 to 5.The fish meat itself was ok but a golden crispy batter with clear grease is preferably to underdone batter with yellow fat.Sorry but constructive criticism will hopefully lead to improvement.

You get plenty when you order here and the fish is always fabulous.The staff are always helpful too.

Just had cod and chips from this unassuming little chippie.Never judge a book by its cover or a chippie by its exterior!The Cod was the best I've had for ages, freshly cooked, crispy batter, soft white flesh inside. If you are passing anywhere near here divert and get some very yummy fish.

I am a local and I will not go to any other chippy for my fish except for Gaerwen! Everything is cooked fresh and not let to go soggy underneath the hot lights and this is a problem in many chippys around here. And the staff are lovely too, I recommend Gaerwen chippy a million percent. :-)

Best chip shop going and the staff are great too! Won't go anywhere else as Gaerwen chippy serves the greatest food I have ever tasted and always come out with a smile on my face. Would recommend Gaerwen chippy 1000000% to anyone and everyone.

This is the best chippy I have been to in a very long time, the food is excellent, freshly cooked, and the staff are the most cheerfull and helpful ever.

The two best chippies on Anglesey are this one and the one on Caemes Bay High street. I just can't decide which one is best.

A good traditional chippy. Good food excellent service. Can't say no more give them a try. They do take telephone orders which is good if you want to order for a big party.

Absolutely brilliant fish, chips and musy peas. Lovely and hot. Crispy batter. Excellent value for money. Went on recommendation from TripAdvisor reviews and we were definitely not disappointed. Worth the ride across the Island from Trearddur Bay, ate them there and came the scenic route back. Second only to The Magpie in Whitby.

Excellent fish (cod) & chips cooked to order. Local patronage pretty obvious while eating my lunchtime meal in my car in the car park. A real pity this chippie has no eat-in potential. It is what it is, a brilliant little food shack in the middle of the island of Anglesey. The only downside was the poor young girl frying the fish. Welsh was clearly her first language, her English let her down somewhat. But she can certainly cook fish & chips really well.

From the road this does not look like the sort of place to stop at - BIG MISTAKE!! The Fish was superb - freshly cooked whilst we waited. This is fish and chips at it's best, I'm only sorry we didn't find out just how good until the last night of our holiday!There is also the added bonus of off road parking which is brilliant as it is on the A%.

Ok, let's get this straight. There's no restaurant, it's a fish and chip takeaway. It's on the old A5. Small off road car park right next to the chippie. It looks unassuming. There's only a sandwich board outside to say its open. It's a small converted former residential property. But make no mistake, this place serves the best fish and chips on the island. The fish, cod, is fresh, firm and deliciously battered. Chips are cooked to perfection. I've used the place over a number of years and I've never had that rank fat taste. Lunchtimes, there's a constant stream of locals who pull in. Builders, council, long haul operators, I've seen all and they go out of their way to lunch here. I do the same and will happily plan a beach walk rounded off with cod and chip lunch. Bit out of the way home, but worth it. Great batter, brilliant chips, my favourite takeaway for miles and well worth a detour.
