A hidden gem, wonderful food, good choice of menu, the black pudding starter is delicious. Very attentive staff without being intrusive, all the staff are welcoming and are pleased to see you, the car park is a wecome plus. There is no rush to vacate the table. Excellent value for money. The manager is very professional but makes each customer feel welcome. X

This was our first visit to Gabrielle’s and it won’t be the last. We were a family of four and each of us selected a different meal. My husband cannot eat garlic so he chose a sirloin steak and thoroughly enjoyed it, he said it was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. I had a very nice portion of lasagne that was tasty and certainly not heavy as some I have experienced. Our son had a chicken dish and our daughter in law chose ham and mushroom carbonara and both of them enjoyed very much, they said cooked perfect and very tasty. We started with garlic bread, as my husband cannot eat garlic the waiter or the chef had missed garlic on two portions, what a lovely kind gesture and very much appreciated. Four very happy customers.

45 mins wait for starters to arrive. Polo Diane chicken was so overcooked it was impossible to cut the skin. Cracked pepper sauce should not be served it was dangerously hot and could potentially damage digestives systems. Previous visit was superb, sadly will never return. Worst meal I've ever been served in my life.

£11.50 for a pizza margarita frozen from the supermarket. Very expensive restaurant, only good if you do not understand nothing about food! I You will be disappointed with the quality if you familiar with food. The staff looks nice and friendly but the chef must be lazy. The worst pizza I had in North east . I don't recommend!! No ⭐

Lovely atmosphere food and people

I lived in Italy for many years and this place is as authentic as it gets in terms of decor and atmosphere. It’s based on a traditional trattoria and it does the job very well. This was my fourth visit since moving back to the UK and it won’t be my last. The food has always been consistently good. I started with calamari fritti. Excellent. Main course was Tagliata (steak cut into slices and served with a rocket salad with shaved Parmesan). I made the mistake of not asking for my steak to be served medium rare so it arrived at the table on a sizzling plate too well done for me, but I’d know next time. And there will be a next time. The dessert menu looked nice but I’m not a dessert person and was too full by then anyway. Prices are very reasonable. All in all a lovely meal in unpretentious and authentic surroundings served by friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended.

Visited this restaurant for a family meal, the food was good and not badly priced, the only let down was the young waitresses constantly coming to the table asking if we wanted more drinks which were vastly overpriced.

Meal, food and service was very acceptable, but I don't believe that my pint of Peroni should have attracted a price of £6.15....this, to my mind is extortionate...... You must have made a profit by charging me £13.95 for my meal.

A hidden gem of a restaurant, lovely meal, very attentive staff. Even though the restaurant was busy, we did not have a long wait, the staff were very friendly. There is agood car park next to the restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes good Italian food.

Hounded by three young waitresses of am I ready to order, from immediately sitting down, no time to view menu. When I asked for location of where side orders were in the menu for the likes of garlic bread etc, she pointed to a main dish at £17! Waitress did not have a clue. Waited for food to arrive from ordering over 45 mins, had to ask where food was. Food arrived in two stages, so one going cold while we waited for the other... second was a pizza that was in my opinion not cooked enough, soggy middle dough. I have never seen such an anemic pizza in my life. Waitresses kept saying sorry. It was for a special occasion that we were there. Totally disappointing experience, I will not be back.

Huge thanks to Gabrielle and all his staff, for providing us with a superb Christmas dinner. Our party had different starters, mains and deserts and all reported very high standard of quality, presentation and taste. To get so many meals out to a hungry mass is credit to the kitchen team, front of house and waiters/waitresses. There was so much turkey, we took some home for my dog...... And he loved it too... 🤣 Well done..!

We came here last night for the tea time special, we payed extra because of our food choices. The house Rose wine was lovely. Starter and main course was delicious. Belly pork was tender. Service was friendly. Will definitely be back again.

I visited Gabrielle's for a celebritory meal with my partner back in May. The service was brilliant and our waiter was very attentive. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals with the menu boasting a good range of gluten free options. We look forward to returning.

Visited with a friend for dinner. Food was excellent. There was quite a long wait between courses but we'll worth the wait. There were a lot of people in the restaurant some celebrating which added to the good atmosphere. Service was good. Recommended.

Friendly Staff, great food and brilliant value for money, would definitely recommend, it’s a short 10 minute walk from town, if lost ask people where the Mitre pub is. We enjoy the great value 2 courses for £14 which had lots of choice we Staff were very attentive

Generally very good, menu vast in typical Italian style. Food excellent & service friendly if not the fastest but they were busy. What really annoyed me is on paying & enquiring that tips on card go to staff we are informed no they didn’t get get them. Nor are they allowed to keep cash tips. Now I am not sure on the legalities however if I choose to make a gratuity then I expect it to go to the people of my choosing. So 1 star lost for this. Policy needs revision immediately.

Stayed overnight in Bishop Auckland and booked a table for a Friday night in advance. The restaurant was very busy with a great atmosphere. The service was welcoming, friendly and efficient. The prawn and mussels starters were excellent and the vegetarian and meat feast pizzas were really nice. Very good value and would definitely eat there again.

The food portions are correct and beautifully cooked. The service is amazing and super friendly. Deserves a michelin star! Highly recommended place to go out for a dinner and have nice cocktails before and afterwards.

My Husband Terry and I came across Gabrielle's quite by chance as it's tucked away at the top of a side street. We were here for my birthday night out! We had no reservation, but received a warm welcome and were shown to our table. The drinks menu was very good, with both cocktails and wine. We chose our starters and main courses from the extensive menu, which catered for all tastes. All dishes are pictured. The food was delicious, well presented and we found room for dessert too. The staff, Glen and Katy and the owner, Gabrielle were delightful and looked after us very well. Highly recommended and we can't wait to return.

This restaurant has been established for many years but it was my very first visit and my friends first visit for 30 years (they've been living abroad). It's good reputation came before it but was well deserved. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive and the main waiter was particularly knowledgeable. I had calamari fritti to start, my husband the home made pate and my friends the mussels and garlic mushrooms respectively. Mains were tagliata (steak cut across the grain), King prawns with spicy rice, chicken Diane and a pizza. All were delicious. The house red was an unpretentious montepulciano d'abruzzo. All in all absolutely delicious food in a nice atmosphere with lovely staff. By far the best Italian restaurant we have been to in the local area so far.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful date here last night, reserved a table for 7:30pm and experienced fast friendly service with brilliant food. I was too full so they let us take the rest of our garlic bread home in a takeaway box which was great! Thank you for a wonderful night out 😊

Amazing food and very attentive service. Really good quality food at very competitive prices. Whole menu can be adapted for gluten free needs apart from the pizzas, but they do offer gluten free pasta and bread. The penne arrabbiata is honestly the best I’ve ever tasted. Will definitely visit again next time I’m in Bishop Auckland.

Reasons below - Pulling up to the restaurant, straight away there was an italian vibe. - Chilled, soft music in the background just loud enough to hear but not drown out conversations. - Food, absolutely exquisite. Fantastic portions and amazing flavours. - Value for money, for the level of food on offer id have expected to pay double than what we did. - Staff. Every single one of the team were suoer friendly, really attentive and seemed genuinely happy to do everything they could for you. Id highly recommend the Lobster Raviolli to start. Garlic cheese bread. Slow roasted Porchetta with a side of Cabbage. Tiramasu and the Chocolate Moose.

Dined here as a party of 5 last week, we had the set menu 2 course for 12.95 amazing value. All of us were pleased with starters and main course (recommend potato skins to start!) Restaurant was really busy so only complaint would be it was difficult to hear each other speak at times.Definitely recommend this place to everyone and will be back soon!
