Antico Restaurant Durham in County Durham

Visited for our daughter's birthday. Beautiful restaurant and food. The staff were also very pleasant and attentive. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Wonderful dinner, and very attentive staff. We were spending a few days in Durham and decided to eat Italian one evening. The premises were very tastefully decorated, and I expected the meal to be a lot more expensive than it was. I had the fettucine with broccoli, walnuts & blue cheese sauce, and it was the best pasta dish I've ever eaten. Thoroughly recommended.

We’re regular diners here and are so happy to have this good value restaurant near to our home. The food is always good and the staff are fantastic.

Super nice place, and lovely staff. The dinner was very lovely — tagliatelle alla spagnola was too good, could have gone for a second plate. Had a little salt accident and the stuff were happy to serve me a new plate. A nice Valentines Day dinner

Table of 14 all were happy with their experience tonight. First visit and must say very well decorated and has a lovely feeling. Nice welcome and service throughout was excellent. I had 3 courses calamari which was a bit disappointing and a bit chewy. Salmon in saffron sauce with mussels with veg. Lovely well cooked large piece of salmon but I would have the skin facing up to keep it crisp. The veg was perfectly cooked. Then tiramisu with was large and fine but needed a little more kick of coffee. Will definitely call again.

We love Antico's in Durham...visited many times, including my husband's 60th birthday and for Christmas Day 2023. Excellent food and brilliant service from staff, very reasonable prices.

Good food and very friendly environment

The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and efficient. I would go again. We were a party of twelve and we did not have to pre-order or prepay, unlike some places, which was lovely.

Appalling service, had a knife and fork dropped onto my feet, spilt gin into my pasta and said “oops” then walked away when I paid my part in cash they automatically assumed they could keep the change. Wasn’t particularly busy when we were in and drinks took around 20 minutes to arrive. Food was average at best. Couldn’t pay me to return there, not an enjoyable experience for my birthday.

This is a really lovely little restaurant with very friendly staff serving excellent food. The downside for me personally was all the stairs as I struggle with my mobility. We hadn't realised this when booking.

Food cooked from scratch, fresh. I can believe this as it took nearly an hour for our food in an empty restaurant. The manager is serving and doing his best, it lacked that buzz a restaurant has. The food tasted good and there was plenty, a good choice of drinks and food on the menu, but nothing to show chefs special options. I hope this picks up as it's a nice Hotel, bar and restaurant.

Love this place. Friendly staff, excellent service, great pizza. Went in there with our young kids and everyone was extremely welcoming. Highly recommend.

Good food and atmosphere, prices have become more reasonable than my previous visit (after the rebranding of the restaurant). Food was good but could use a little more flavours - seafood options were excellent. We had a few spritz drinks which were very good.

We had a lovely evening meal. Food was delicious and good sized portions. Very reasonably priced too. Not in rhe city centre however just over a mile from our Hotel.

I went to durham for the first time for my wife's birthday and I wanted to take her for dinner for a special place. I selected antico after going through some reviews. I think I made the right choice. The staff was amazingly friendly and well trained. No words to express how delicious the food is. This is a highly recommended restaurant for anyone who is interested in Italian food which has a good mix and variety of choices. Definitely a place to visit next time when in durham. Fillet steak was overcooked when asked for medium. I was polite enough to eat as in company group However when mentioned on paying bill i found the front of house male was quite rude and he openly said that because i had eaten it he would do nothing also did not touch the chips rather soggy. Shame as starters where beautiful

Antico went off some time ago and I stopped going . As a result I decided after a break to try it one more time . I am so pleased that I did . Change of ownership has transformed this little gem back to its full glory . It’s buzzing again and with superb food . Best prawns and mussels in Durham cooked to perfection . The new owner and staff could not be more helpful. Fabulous !!!

What a find. Delicious food, lovely friendly staff and great decor. Don't eat before you go - large portions and so very tasty and great quality.

Had a meal from the ala carte menu and had a very nice night.The service was very friendly and efficient.The drinks were nice moretti @ £5.50 per pint.The food we ordered was skins,garlic breads,pizza and pasta s.The food was very nice with the lobster pasta dish being a small portion for £14.The lemon cake didn't have a very strong taste of lemon either. I would definitely go back and recommend a visit but go for the early bird menu as it is much better value. Check opening hours as they are not as long as other italian restaurants but it is well worth a visit.Great night.

This was our first visit to Antico for our anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised. Could not fault the food it was very tasty and filling. The staff were lovely - we even got free desserts due to a tiny incident when a bottle of wine was needed from behind our table so we had to stand up for a moment while they got it - I didn't bother us in the slightest and free dessert was a lovely gesture. The prices are very reasonable. Its quite warm in here so dress lightly. The atmosphere was lovely and we will definitely be back.

Lovely food, can recommend the prawn tempura starter and the sausage and chorizo pasta dish. Staff were attentive and friendly. Decor was very nice. Overall would recommend as a nice place for Italian food. The Primitivo di Manduria was a good choice for wine too..

Me and my husband are staying in Durham and he first came to this restaurant the night before our wedding and wanted to take me. All I can say is WOW. Service is first class, so friendly and attentive. Food was super fast and delicious. We will definitely be returning and spreading the word to friends and family!

Probably the best Sunday lunch I've had in a long time... cooked to perfection... service amazing and wow... cheesecake to die for. Seriously you guys are great. Thank you for squeezing us in at the last minute too. That goes a long way in hospitality. Even had the privilege to meet your chef. Fantastic. You all have to try this place.

Went for the early bird tea. The aperol had no flavour and tasted of water even my husbands shandy didn't taste good. Starter of potatoe skins were nice. For mains we got pizzas and they were very poor. Base wasn't crisy and not alot of flavour. Staff were lovely but won't be going back

Went for a family meal for six tonight, all starters and mains were great and served well, the staff were great. The main I had, lobster ravioli was absolutely perfect to be honest and the whole table commented how nice the food was. It’s a little gem 5 minutes from the city centre, would definitely recommend

Was treated to a surprise 30th birthday here with a party of 32 people turning up. Staff were very welcoming, food came out quickly and was lovely! I’ve only recently moved to Durham but will be making this my new regular Italian restaurant going forward

Just visited Antico for the first time and it was an excellent experience! Nice decor, the staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. The food was excellent. Really tasty and there was plenty of it. The prices were very reasonable too. We were a table of 10, there to celebrate my 60th birthday. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who conducted the communal singing of "Happy Birthday" to me and brought the cake, my wife had arranged, to the table. We'll definitely be back in the near future. Update:- Just had our second visit. Shouldn't have taken so long to return really. All I can say is it was every bit as good as the last time. Food excellent (try the spicy scotch egg starter it was awesome!!) Staff were great, same level of attentiveness without being intrusive. We definitely won't wait as long for another visit.

The best lamb I ever had. It was nicely and perfectly cooked just like how I wanted. With roasted potatoes on the side, I had such a nice dinner. The staff were very welcoming and lovely. There was a brilliant service. I’m definitely going back.

A pretty fancy Italian restaurant in Neville's Cross, the penne all'Arrabbiatta was great, if a little under salted, and the brownie was tasty too. A good experience overall - worth checking out!

We visited 3 weeks ago for the first time. The staff were accommodating and friendly, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The starters were delicious, especially the one with the prawns and chorizo! As a main we got the seafood platter which was £32, but it was way overpriced for what it was; the portion was for one person only, and it was way overcooked! P.S. We had been advised by the waiter in advance that the seafood platter was ideal for one person, and we were ok to share as we were having a starter each anyway. Based on how good the starters were I believe this restaurant has great potential and would recommend, but would recommend avoiding the seafood platter.

I took my son and his partner for a teatime meal while up visiting. What a great find. We had the early bird special menu. The choices on the menu were great, portions were really generous and the food was simply excellent, so tasty. To top it all the service was spot on. This family run restaurant is a must visit if you are in the area, I know you wont be disappointed. (no I am not related 🙂)

It doesn’t look much from the outside but once up the stairs and inside it is a lovely place. The staff are very well presented and proficient. It’s clear they know how to give their customers a spot-on dining experience. Our visit was a Saturday night, and they were busy. Its definitely top quality Italian food. I booked online, and then rang them a few days before to make sure they had my booking. As it turned out I needn't have bothered as their system sent me an email asking to confirm my booking just before anyway. Can recommend.
