Casanostra Restaurant in County Durham

Absolutely fantastic meal & service for a party of 11 people. The food was some of the best Italian food we have eaten and the service was first class. Shelley our main waitress was super helpful and attentive, she’s a real asset to the business. We would 100% recommend and return. Thankyou for a lovely evening.

Got a takeaway of bolognese rigatoni and garlic bread, The pasta was watery not much meat in it hardly any taste and I couldn’t even taste the garlic on the garlic bread not good 😤

Been coming to Francos for years and last night was just as as exceptional as normal. The two waiting staff though went above and beyond to make a very nice meal even more pleasurable. The starter we shared between us which was a cheese garlic bread. I ordered the chicken paradiso and my husband got the fillet steak Pepe . Both were delicious and cooked perfectly to our liking. We couldn’t find room for a dessert as we were simply to fill but the choices were great.

Just called in here tonight for one of my favourite italian take away, the chicken kiev, it was exactly how we remebered it, absolutely fantistico, thank you Franco.

Doesn’t look much from the outside but don’t be fooled. The food is of a very high quality. The guy who served us (manager maybe) was friendly and courteous. We had some pasta and pizzas and all dishes were very good at a very reasonable price. Well worth a visit 👍

Whilst staying in West Auckland for the night we searched for a bistro nearby. Most were closed on a Sunday evening apart from Casanostra. When we parked our car we were a bit dubious. From the outside it looked more like a takeaway and not so inviting. However, the menu took our fancy. The owner was very friendly and made us feel most welcome In his cosy bistro. Our starters were mussels, soup and garlic bread followed by steak and seabass, finishing off with homemade tiramisu. The food was tasty but presentation was lacking and vegetables were frozen. No finger bowl to cleanse hands after eating the mussels was offered. The tiramisu was gorgeous. On the whole we enjoyed what we ate. Prices are reasonable.

We have been going to Casa nostra for years and really enjoy Franco's food. I wanted something a little different so he suggested a Kiev with tomato and chilli sauce. It was a little too hot at first but with the addition of a small jug of cream became one of the nicest dishes I've ever had there. If you are a fan of desserts Franco makes the best Tiramissu in the universe. We travel about 15 miles to use the take away service sometimes and it's very good. Well worth a try.

Having walked through a town centre that looked as if it was closing down completely, the exterior of this restaurant didn't inspire confidence. Step inside, and a warm welcome and a decent menu awaits. All your Italian favourites are on here, and one or two you won't normally see south of the Alps, but you couldn't fault for variety. The food was quick, well presented and served, and represented excellent value for money. The risotto I had was very good and my fellow guests enjoyed the food. Nice staff in here, who were very helpful to visitors and this place deserves to be supported by the locals as well as visitors to the area.

Booked a table for 5, greeted warmly, drinks were served, our menu choices explained and made to feel at ease. Although we only ordered main courses the lasagna wasn't as expected and replaced with a spaghetti carbonaria which was definitely an improvement, other specials were fine. There wasn't a great atmosphere without other diners but we created our own atmosphere, no problem. Our waitress was very efficient & helpful. There's so much potential here but just not being fully taken advantage of. Time will tell.

Called in for a takeaway after work, played safe ( I thought) with spaghetti bolognese, garlic bread and a potion of chips . Bolognese sauce was scarce, thin and tasteless. The pasta was ok. Garlic bread was the best, but stone cold. Definately not " like mamma used to make" ... Won't use again

We visited as a group of 2 couples and I had never been here before. I was uncertain that this would be a good italian and my expections were dismissed. We all throughly enjoyed our meals -starters - garlic bread/mushrooms/calamari/prawns. Mains- pasta/chicken dishes and all plentyfull and tasty. We all had a very good evening and would inform others to try in the future.

Came here with my girlfriend at the weekend, had a 3 course meal and overall it was very good, steak was overcooked, the profiteroles I had were a bit warmer but otherwise it was pretty good. Definitely gonna go there again though

We had to book a table at short notice on our way to Kynren, and Franco and his staff couldn't have been more attentive, friendly, fun and warm, and our pizza was delicious! It's just a pity Franco cannot use his knowledge and roots in Sicilian food (different but equally delicious to Italian!) more and has to adapt to English tastes! Perhaps he could try a Sicilian night and see if people become interested!

We usually ordering for a takeaway and once we had to return our food because it was terrible. Was even scared to try chicken because it looked not properly cooked. We we order again it was delicious. And I ordered again today and I could trow it in a bin. Chicken dolcelatte is my favourite but when cheese sauce doesn't even taste like cheese it means there's something wrong!!!! Very disappointed

After reading reviews and now visiting we were not disappointed. The food was amazing and freshly prepared for us, it's not the fastest of services but well worth it. Franco keeps things moving and covers everything except the music.

Great food. Great service and reasonable prices. Fresh and cooked to order. No microwaved ready prepared food here! Great place for a celebration.

Never tasted anything like it it was absolutly BEAUTIFUL. have been a regular for years, its my fave italian ever the garlic breads are to die for the kievs are just so nice and proper chicken

We now go to this place farly often as a treat, the food is always great, the service also. Franco always makes an effort to say hello and ask if eveything is ok, the place is truly underrated.

We both really enjoyed our meal, we both had 3 courses and a few drinks, very friendly staff as soon as we walked in, we felt welcomed, we sat and had a drink in the bar area and spoke with Franco who was very friendly and relaxed, he then escorted us to our table. The restuarant is cosy but not cramped, very clean with authentic music and decor, a very pleasant experience, good food and good service, we are looking forward to our next visit, recommended.

We eat here regularly as a family and the food along with the service is always of a good standard !. Ate here on Friday night 10th of April and not only was the service excellent the food was better than ever !! Will be back soon

This Italian is our favourite place to eat within and around Bishop Auckland. Franco does an amazing job of always preparing lovely fresh Italian food just how it should be. This place always seems so quiet and we just can't understand why? Yes the décor is a little dated but it does make the place feel very authentic. The food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. Please next time you want to try somewhere new, go to Franco's. You will not be disappointed!!

Fantastic food. I would recommend the rigatoni sofia and the chicken imperial. Good value for money although the portions could be larger, only because it's so nice. Your meal is not complete without a garlic bread with cheese and tomato. Gorgeous

Really cosy, excellent food and good service. All at a reasonable price too, you can't fault it.
