Not sure if the Friary Mills Pasties are meant to be a genuine Pasty or not. Unfortunately for me there was too much pastry, not enough filling and what filling there was there, was not very nice. Only having been there once I can only comment on the one product I had and I might have been there on an off day, as they did seem to be quite busy.

Food is prepared as you order, so is always hot. Staff are friendly and service is really quick. Good food at good price!

This bakery achieve the tricky balance of high quality with decent sized portions and the low prices that Plymouth expects. The selection of filled rolls, cakes and pastries is impressive. My favourite is the curried chicken pasty. Not traditional perhaps, but they taste fantastic!

I popped into Friary Mill today on Royal Parade, for a quick takeaway sandwich. I was delighted to see that they providing "Earth First" compostable packaging for their produce . They are an inspiration and example to the big supermarkets, who don't seem to care about the amount of plastic they produce or tell customs that it is too dificult to provide alternative, environmentally friendly packaging. As a result, I have decided to switch from buying my daily sandwich from M&S, in favour of buying from Friary Mill. I know that other customers are struggling with the amount of single use plastics that they are forced to purchase. You may wish to switch too.

I used to like the pastries this company sold, as did many in my office. Rock cakes, for example, were generously made with plenty of fruit and whole cherries. What a difference now. Smaller, meanly made with hardly any fruit and the 'cherries', if you find any, are tiny chopped up pieces the size of a pinhead! I suppose by putting in less ingredients you save money and make more profit, but you have lost a lot of us customers to other bakers who don't shave the ingredients down.

A lazy day meant a trip to a bakery. Being the factory shop this bakery didnt store as much as its proper retail shops. However the food is still tasty. A great little find in cattedown.

I suppose if you are going to have a locally based chain of necessary bakers shops selling ordinary bread, pasties and simple pastries then that is better than a national or regional chain. It is a pity that over time Friary Mill took over places like Jacka's and Brimbles but they released Jacka's into the independent sector and that is now the most successful artisan baker in Plymouth and run by a family. It is easy to turn your nose up at places like Friary Mill, Warrens etc but they produce competitively priced functional food for people who like that sort of thing.
