Friar Tucks in Fenland

Phoned in my order (£0.50 added for admin by the service provider) because I did not want to wait at the shop. Was advised when ready. Picked up order - very friendly staff. Excellent quality, all freshly cooked and good sized portions. Really good experience.

Really disappointing, batter had the texture of shoe leather , fish had no taste , chips were acceptable. Won’t be visiting there again soon !

Opening state until 8pm but from 7:15 pm they will only serve what they have left. Seems to have gone down hill.

The fish and chips are ok. I've been here many times as a local. I've had a few times where the chips weren't cooked enough, but that might just be personal preference. Its very expensive compared to other fish and chip shops in Whittlesey (Royal fish bar)

Well I read a previous review & still decided when driving past it to check it out .My haddock was as I requested, lightly battered , good size & on point for quality & freshness,, chips were decent , my only thing stopping a 5 star is , few more chips needs to be added . Thanks .when I'm back in the area I will stop by

Decided to try this fish shop for a change had to que outside it was all boarded up just like when Covid was at its worst someone was taking your order from a table by the door large chips was enough for one person and lots of hard bits pie was hard my fish was dry and the beans was mostly watery sauce

First time ever got hair on chip buttie however small still not good...and first time thrown in bin as food from here is superb.....hopefully next time better.

I went very happy to try the chips form this shop for the first time and it was very disappointing. I paid for regular chips and when I saw the size I asked to swap it for the large one, so I paid £3.80 and I received a regular size. I was in shock and I asked them if it was the largest size and they said yes. It felt that was well overpriced for the size and make feel stupid. I am 100% confident that I will never come back again.

Ordered online which gave me a 15 minute window until ready. I arrived after 15 minutes and could see the whole order was ready but was told they were waiting on one fish. I was left sitting for 30 minutes waiting for that single fish while several people came in, ordered and left with their food. Once home, as you can imagine, all the other food that had sat in the bag for 45 minutes was cold and gross. If you know there’s going to be a delay I don’t understand why you would firstly, have a 15 min count down online and secondly, prepare all the rest of the food to leave it sitting 45 mins while waiting for one item. Unfortunately will have to try elsewhere in future.

I went here recently- on arrival it was not very busy and yet I had to wait around 20 minutes for 1 battered sausage and small fish and chips. The long wait was not acceptable- felt like asking for a refund and going elsewhere. The food was average, nothing special- but at these prices it should be much better. I seldom eat fish and chips but can’t believe a large portion of chips is now £3:90 ???!!!! I won’t be returning

been going here for a while now but last 2 times have been disappointing. I think my cod tonight was cooked on Wednesday. tough as a welly boot and I've seen more fish in a single fish finger. all batter no cod 😭 and at current prices it's just not on. time to find a new chippy

The best fish and chips and Whittlesey.

I’ve always ordered from here and usually do it online to pick up on the way home from work. The food is always good so no issues there. I commented to my mum that the price of fish was now £11.20 which is quite expensive (everything’s gone up ) so just excepted it. Whilst waiting on the queue to pick up the fish I happened to look on the board and see that fish was only £9.40 !?! Almost £2 more! Then I looked at the chips, sauces and it was the same, but not by 10/20p but 60p more for chips. So I worked out that I had paid approximately £9 + to order online. Oh and paid a service charge? Now I know that the apps and things cost money but to be a significant amount for each item seems a bit excessive to me. Now when I asked how come the price online was nearly £2 more for fish the young boy serving did not know, but then another member spoke in such a defensive manner saying that I had paid for the service of not having to queue and have my food immediately ( I did queue) and that it costs them to have the online service. I said I understand that but that it was quite a difference in price, I had also picked up my order it hadn’t even been delivered so why was it did different? To which he replied, thank you have a good night in a very sarcastic manner. What a shame! I will not be ordering online again and please please check before ordering.

We had medium cod and large cod,which you couldn't fault. The chips were terrible,they tasted as though they had been reheated. You can definitely tell the difference in the food when Paul isn't there. Would normally recommend fish and chips when when Paul is cooking.

Taking orders in person, over the phone and on food hub. Making a complete hash of it. People who ordered in person after my app order were being prioritised. My order was sat in the cabinet for 30 mins past the time they said it would be ready. Never going back.

Brought two potions of chips on Saturday. I know prices have gone up but come on, £7!!!. The staff seemed as if they couldn't cope ,getting cross with each other and other customers. To top it off the chips were cold !

Cannot belive how small a large portion of chips is at this place I never write reviews but really felt compelled too. Food is ok nothing to write home about but honestly £3:50 for large chips and I swear iv had loads of small portions bigger.

The quality of the chips are hit or miss, mainly misses. They are normally soggy and taste like the wrong potatoes have been used. Regarding price/portions The prices have gone up with portion sizes of chips getting smaller. We have always used and supported Frier tucks until now. The money we will be saving will pay for our new air fryer.

Tiny sizes and rude staff. 30p for mayonnaise, honestly we won't be going back...go elsewhere.

Ordered large chips and a halloumi burger. The chips were really large which they should be at £4.50. The halloumi burger was horrible, It was three slices of battered and deep fried halloumi in a roll not even a burger bun. No salad, No seasoning. Made a order over the phone so i didnt have to wait in the cold with my children while it cooked. Arrive 20 minutes later when they told me it would be ready and they haven't even started cooking it the manager then rudely told me that I don't jump the queue just because I made a phone order even though they told me it would be ready at that time so I wasn't jumping any Q I was just turning up when I was told to. Ended up leaving my food as I'd rather spend my money on a business thats not rude Clearly the owner does not like to tell the truth himself!! Why say your food will be ready in 20 mins if you aint gna be ready! I did not push past anyone and i did not shout at you! You RUDELY SAID YOU DONT CUT THE QUE! WHY BOTHER TAKING PHONE ORDERS IF THERE NOT GOING TI BE READY WHEN YOU ARRIVE!! Why say food will be ready in 20 mins if its not! Why not say well start cooking when you arrive!! instead of saying sorry were behing it will be ready soon you were just plain rude!! I would have paid for my food and left if it had of been ready when you said it would be!! Why wld i wait in this freezing cold weather for my order to be made?? Hense why i phoned ahead so i didnt have to! Chippy sues is nicer anyway will be ordering from there from now on as they have my order ready when i walk intge door!!!!

Haven't been for a while Bought large chips 2 medium cod. I know prices have gone up. but price up. size of portion down. £4 for large chips I think it was a small. And I've seen bigger goldfish as for the fish. Quite disappointed. Might have to try sues or the royal

Tonight's offering not great. Chips were undercooked and greasy, most of them ended up in the bin. Standards do seem to be slipping, the food used to be great.

Ordered 2 x fish and chips. Both pieces of fish were dry and over cooked. The chips although looking nice were again dry and minus most of the potato. Dire food, will not visit again..

Used to get excellent service from this fish and chips shop, however the service since COVID has gone down. Do not take any notice of the opening times on their sign on the car park wall as this is completely wrong. We arrived at 7.30pm one evening to order a meal and we were turned away as we had not pre ordered. Considering taking our trade to The Royal fish bar just round the corner.

Used to be the best of a bad bunch in Whittlesey, but on last visit the cost of fish and chips used to be £14 now cost over £17! Just not worth it. Plus if your getting a chip butty you’d be better off getting a roll and a bag of chips as the customer in front of me complained about her butty with a small amount of chips in a burger bun box.

Usually brilliant fish and chips , not tonight prices gone up-2 handfuls chips half of them black one medium cod now £6.5 0 all batter very disappointed and still hungry!

Loved it. I moored on the river and didn't fancy cooking dinner. Found Friar Tuck's on the Internet and made the short walk into town. Friar Tuck's wonderfully clean and spotless, staff polite and efficient (plus wearing masks). The fish was fantastic, smelled lovely, tasted wonderful and the batter just right! The chips also great and the whole meal was reasonably priced. Next time I'm passing I certainly visit again. 👍👍👍

As someone who is gluten intolerant, finding a chip shop that caters for me can be difficult sometimes. However, Friar Tucks offer gluten free batter which tastes just like the real thing! Good sized portions and welcoming staff.

I got fish and chips from here yesterday the fish Was dry and rubbery and the chips were hard . Had to throw half of it away as it was inedible yuc never again.

Some constructive criticism. I waited 50 mins to get my order yesterday. The priority was clearly the phone and food hub orders which meant those queuing were totally ignored. At one point the queue almost reached the Co-op atm but people got fed up and drifted away. There was no communication with those queuing to explain the delay. One lady had tried to ring ahead but the line was constantly engaged and as she pointed out not everyone uses these food apps. By concentrating on pre orders you lost a lot of customers. . When we got home the food was awful. The fish was over cooked and there were hardly any chips. I like to support local businesses and have you used the shop for years. I won't be returning until you improve customer service and food quality. Thanks

Moved to Whittlesey 18months ago and was the best place to get fish and chips... sadly not so much anymore. They encourage to order ahead but don't read additional notes...just ignored. ALWAYS on arrival the staff don't acknowledge you until THEY are ready even when no customers in front of you, terrible and annoying when you can see your order sat on top of the hot plate... Worse if you have to wait for others to place their orders who didn't order ahead... I've started asking for no salt and vinegar now as they over salt (and I love my salt to my family's disgust) We do still use them, but not as much as we used to due to disappointment and poor customer service and please remind your staff they are on public display. Please get it together Friar Tucks, such simple things to correct which will not cause anymore work or inconvenience for you, but will make a world of difference to your customers experience.

Have looked forward to getting my fish and chips today. First time for many weeks! I ordered a large cod as usual, chap said two small were the same! I usually wait for it to be cooked fresh but was given two pieces from the top. Got home only half a mile down road. What a disappointment. Fish had no flavour, completely overcooked , even the batter tasted more like dried breadcrumbs.. sorry all in the bin, even the one that was not touched. Shame on you! Will not be returning....

I live 8 miles away and this is the best chippy near my village. Eaten quite a few times in the last year. Including 2 days ago. Consistent quality here which is key. With the chips they get just right. The nice flavour from the land shines through and the fish is always crispy and fresh. I have found the same with Cod, Haddock and Plaice. First Class Takeaway!

all of the staff are very welcoming and on the ball when taking orders. they are always very efficient in taking and getting orders out. their chips are 100% the best in the town! cheesey chips are my go to! cooked fresh and never a let down.

Food average. Service varied. I walked into the empty shop and saw two ladies standing behind the counter. After finishing their conversation one of them made eye contact. So I politely placed my order. The other lady then said sharply, "can you wait a minute I'm doing something"! I almost walked around the corner to the other chip shop in disgust, but I couldn't be bothered so I waited for my food like scalded dog. I won't be going back. Enjoy.

Great chippy best around Whittlesey ,but try going to the shop direct and you will wait a fair time it’s all cooked fresh so there’s no rush, the staff are very busy online orders take priority and you could be looking at 35 mins minimum wait easy just standing outside the shop some customers walk in without asking if everyone has placed there orders and push in the queue and not wait at all although the staff see this they will serve that customer regardless if u say anything they talk behind the counter about you and make u feel silly for saying anything ,lots of staff but little brains no wonder they sell chips ,,o level workers ,shelf packers are more clever,

Well what a shocker, Been going here for years , but when asking where my order was after waiting half an hour for a piece of fish and some fish bites. The owner went off on one , blaming covid for the poor, slow service. Even telling me to put on a mask outside the door , even though he himself was not wearing one, but expecting his staff to wear them. What a hypocrite. When I mentioned the poor service and the fact that several numbers before and after ours had gone , he lost it. Even one of the young girls started shouting from the shop. Sad, Shocking and Poor to describe it. Paul needs to get a grip stop making excuses and employ staff who are not rude to customers.

Called in for lunch today between jobs in the area couldn’t fault them the chips were absolutely cooked to perfection the fish was very tasty and the mushy peas some of the best I’ve had and all at a reasonable price and the staff were very friendly will definitely be calling in again and in the not too distant future

Went in on Monday 07/10/2019 it was a little busy but very quick service , shop looked very clean. I ordered food for myself and the rest of my family the servers were friendly I didn’t get there names but they did a good job. The fryer (Sam) was very friendly as usual and efficient hearing the orders being taken and putting the cod and the chicken chunks in to cook saving a couple of minutes of wait time while we were finishing being served. Also Cleaning around her cooking station as she worked which I thought was good and very hygienic. The cod was cooked to perfection and mushy peas were lovely. Definitely the best fish and chip shop in Whittlesey.

I did not know this 'Chippy' was linked to one in Whittlesey, which I have used on a number of occasions and found to be first-class. This one might be even better. The portions are generous and the cooking is first rate. There are many more bad 'chippies' than good one. This one is streets above many others. Well Done

I've been going to Friar Tucks for a very long time. Paul and his team are welcoming and professional. The quality of the fish and chips are fantastic, freshly cooked every time, this is because the shop is so popular the fish is sold straight away. You want quality healthy take away, visit Friar Tucks,you will not be disappointed.

I've eaten Fish n chips all over the country and world.. None have the ridiculously polite service or professional attitude or food quality that this place has.. Weird saying that about a little fish n chip shop I know, but it shows how much pride they have in their business..

Grabbed some Fish and Chips on the way home from work. Hot fresh and everything I fancied. Can never eat a full portion from shops so ordered a pensioner deal. Just enough. No waste. Great

Cracking fish and chips, my go to place for as long as I can remember. Everything is freshly made to order, so takes a little longer than; say the golden arches, but it is well worth the wait. Portion sizes are just right (large, yet not too substancial) , as are the prices! Friar's do also cater well for people with allergies/food intolerances. All of the staff I've encountered are great also.

Friendly staff, spotlessly clean , nice fresh chips and a fantastic battered sausage think it may have been a Lincolnshire sausage but not certain well worth a visit

Today my partner and I went in at lunchtime, 3 others in the shop waiting for their orders, we walked in and the staff looked at us, we stood at the counter waiting to for someone to take our order. We stood waiting for atleast 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged...staff carried on having personal conversations, after 10 minutes we decided to leave as there was no sign of anyone talking to us. We understand when they are busy but just tell us they will be with us shortly then we wouldn't of been left in limbo and probably would of stayed.

Wasn't impressed with this fish shop..... Stood for ages in the queue only to be told I should have ordered my fish when I came in!!... Ummm it's a fish and chips shop thought they may have had some already cooking!!?... Got fed up waiting and went to the fish shop round the corner.... My son got some from here and said the batter was very greasy and wouldn't be going back.

Very tasty fish and chips bit on the expensive side but still tasty. We come from Romford in Essex to see our father in law and we have to eat our fish and chips on a Friday we do look forward to this meal.

We're regular visitors here. We don't actually live in or near Whittlesey but my partner has family nearby so whenever we make the 70 mile trip up to the area we always make sure we go that little bit further to eat here.

Well there where about 7 people in their all ordered fish and chips etc all I ordered was 2 portions of chips and they made me wait almost half and hour they served everyone their fish and chips etc when they could have just served me then and there. They had chips all cooked and ready but just stood there waiting for the fish !!!!! I understand that they have a number system but come on a bit of common sense!!! So silly sort it out

Primero tenía Patatas Fray golosinas's en marzo y no podía esperar a volver en mayo y ellos. Patatas fritas propiamente dicho, servido en una preciosa caja y esta vez tuve que cod - increíble. Terminamos el pescado y patatas fritas las dos noches me quedé porque era tan bueno. Sin duda, mi elección la próxima vez.
