Fred's Quality Fish Bar in Stratford-on-Avon

Have to say its great that Freds family are back running the shop. Had the best cod and chips 2 nights ago and enough chips for the 2 of us! Lovely chat whilst waiting for food to be cooked fresh. Will be a regular visitor again

A small portion of chips.... contains 19 chips! (I counted). Took back, complained and got my money back. Kebab would of been lovely if it consisted of more than 2 strips of cold kebab meat but when a certain (old) person serves you don't expect much (not the first time either). Wont be returning nor will anyone else in my family.

My second time spending my money here since being taken over. Not good. Worst Cod (if it was) and chips ever. Sorry. Its a chippy and the chips were terrible.

Called in whilst passing through Studley, fish and chips were excellent and had a fired mars bar into top it off. Friendly staff, good quality food and excellent value - will be returning.

Really lovely chips and fresh, crispy battered fish - all at a good price. Very friendly new owners too. We will definitely be back.

I've lived in the area for a while now, and usually go up the road to Studley Fish Bar. However, that shop has gone a bit downhill of late so I thought I'd try Fred's. I must say, I was very impressed. The chips were amazing - the best I have had for ages - the fish was a decent size and freshly cooked, and it was quite a bit cheaper too. Service was good, and it was nice to have a chat with the new owner. I will definitely be going back, and would recommend Fred's to anyone looking for good food at a cheap price.

Well, they aren't the best Chippy in Studley. Go to Studley Fish Bar on the High street just up the hill, and the fish is always massive, and well cooked, More pricey, but then they have better sized fish.Having said that, Fred's can be good in a different way. Fred;s. Love Fred himself, and his wife is down to earth, says it how it is, common as muck salt of the earth. But their fryers can't seem to be consistent! One day I will go there and have pie and chips and the chips will be lush, slightly soggy and soft as I like them. Then I will have fish and it will be overcrisp and swimming in oil and the chips will be hard and sharp. It just depends on the day. They do have some fantastic lunch combo's for around £3/4, so they are good value for money if you catch them damn machines on a good day. I'll keep going back. Fred has got really sexy hairy forearms, mind you, so has his wife...

This chip shop is on the main through road. There is free parking on the other side of the street. It also has good opening hours. This means if you are on the road and you need chips there it is. It does not have an extended menu otherwise I would give it 4 stars.

Fish & chips are my weakness.... but they have to be good, and Fred's is above average. The chips are average, but it's the fish that makes me go back here whenever we have a chippy night. They cook it fresh for you and you can have a thin batter or none at all, both of which i prefer to the standard amount you usually get at a chip shop. The fish is big, and its 100% Cod with great taste. Definitely one of the best chippy's in the area.... for the fish anyway...

I moved up to Redditch last year and tried all the local fish and chip shops. Fred's came out the best for the quality of fish but also the chips (they renew the oil regularly). Then I found the kebab has a garlic twist and the chicken tikka is magical. The icing on the cake is the wonderful couple and their son who run Fred's. 11/10. I don't understand some of the reviews below but you can't please everyone. For me I am a happy bunny.

Chips were terrible Kebab was tiny even though I paid for large. When Fred serves Its great no complaints but when other members of staff do its terrible. sorry fred.

Sorry Fred just purchased chips at 18:10 on 2/102016,and they were awful!!If I had not been so hungry I would have brought them back for a refund.

Ordered for three people then discovered they were frying for a large do some 40 people had to wait 20 minutes for fish & chips, mentioned this to the Boss 'Fred' only to be met with what can only described as a rude bullying unpleasant individual that spoke to his young staff as if we were still living in a world where the Boss can say and do what he likes, the fish and chips were however average kebab was overpriced and......like the owner had been in the shop too long !!!

Popped in being late back from work really fancying fish and chips, being told Fred's is a real good chippy recently I decided why not give it a go? I walked into the shop asked if any fish was cooked I was told no we cook it fresh, oh it's okay I replied as I was in a hurry, to which came a reply from something sat the other side of the counter "We don't have fish in cupboards" I just stopped looked, bit my tongue and walked off, with attitude like that I won't be going again.......

Esta no es mi primera crítica de Freds, de hecho, será mi tercera, pero creo que vale la pena otra crítica basada en mis propias conclusiones de como recientemente como la noche pasada. Invité a mi hermano y a mí que y patatas fritas de pescado de Freds anoche y él estaba totalmente de acuerdo con que son de primera clase. Nuestra familia anteriormente pertenecían y chip de pescado tiendas, así que me gustaría pensar que mi hermano y yo estamos en una buena posición para apreciar y patatas fritas de pescado de calidad cuando nos muestra ellos. Freds siempre cumplió con mis expectativas. Cada vez que visite el pescado ha sido de alta calidad y recién frito mientras que esperar. Las patatas fritas 'patatas fritas de tienda adecuada de pescado y frito a la perfección. Servicio de primera clase también, de personal amable y cálido.

Visit here fairly frequently, staff are always friendly and polite, been using here for 3 years and never had an issue,will continue to use

as a technical instructor with the NHS I took some clients there and we ended up binning the fish and chips soggy undercooked and thought I would try again but same result my wife nearly threw up after a couple of mouthfuls never again,done,t know how he stays in business

Freds is a great Chippy in Studley. The chips are tasty, and the fish is excellent. All of it is cooked fresh for you so you can have it how you like it. I have it with a very thin batter which is lovely, and my partner likes it without batter which they have no problem doing for you. The portion size is very generous too.Great service and about the standard price for fish and chips at 5.50.Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Fish and chips are always supberb, the portion of chips is large,in fact my husband and I normally share 1 portion.

Looking for a good meal for two of us, was exceedingly put off by the very long wait due to re-cooking fish and chips which were dry and over cooked. Not expensive but also not very tasty.

We use Fred's whenever we want Fish and Chip takeaway meals. The fish is always tasty and moist and the chips are cooked well. The portion sizes are better than reasonable.Our son likes the burgers and kebabs, rather than fish and I occasionally prefer a pie, so we can recommend the full range of items on the menu.

been using Freds chippy now for a age now.staff and owners are great and nice to get on with too, this chippy is reccommended!perfection :-)

The staff are LOVELY and they really make the effort but the food just isn't that nice, I've started getting takeaways elsewhere.

I find the fish & chips from Fred's Fish Bar to be really top class. The chips are great and the fish is good quality and coated with lovely batter. Everything is fried to perfection. Very friendly service from the staff too.
