Freda & Ray in South Lakeland

We saw this place that we were thinking about going to for lunch. The food looked good but when we went to view the menu by the door to go in, we just about to go in and the staff member shut the door in our face. So we turned around and walked away. So rude.

Lovely place, great food and fantastic coffee! Great for dogs too 🐶 lovely staff, we called twice and the second time they recognised us right away.

Grab a table get the number and order at counter, nice staff, nice food, gluten free options, sandwiches etc The GF lemon blueberry cake is lovely

This is a charming and modern cafe with both cake and tea and also larger hot meals available - dogs are very welcome! We had a marvelous full cumbrian breakfast which was very, very filling. The cafe is in the middle of Grasmere and I would recommend it as a stopping off pint at anytime. The millionaires shortbread is a must

We stopped off here after a walk for a coffee and a cake and were not disappointed. We were torn between two cakes so got both to share. The cakes were yummy, especially the biscoff blondie. It was dog friendly, had an outside covered seating area and all the staff were very friendly.

This is exactly what Grasmere has needed for a long time. A casual restaurant with fabulous home made pizzas washed down with a glass of very nice Prosecco. Mike is the perfect host, very friendly and attentive as were all the staff, great buzzy atmosphere. Food perfect, reasonably priced. We will be back.

We went for Pizzas & Cocktails early evening on a busy bank holiday weekend. All three of us explored the variety of cocktails and devoured our pizzas. Drinks and food were excellent and the staff were really friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back.

Excellent food ham and cheese toastie was fabulous with real home cooked ham the coffee and walnut cake was even better so good I almost had a second piece but when you see the size of the slices you will understand why I didn’t!

Me, my husband and our cockapoo popped in for cakes, then returned with our grown up kids for pizza n cocktails on Friday night, then as it was ALL sooo delicious we called again for more cakes the following day!! Staff all so lovely. Food amazing....and the best mojitos we've ever tasted. My waistline was the only one not in heaven!

We were having a family get together on Saturday evening and noticed Freda and Ray had an option to take away pizza’s. I popped in earlier in the day and ordered a variety to collect at 7pm! Walked in at7pm just as they popped out of the oven! What a treat! They were so good! Really authentic and a good choice! Perfectly cooked - Yummy! So nice not to have to cook and have such a wonderful place on our doorstep! We’re local and great to see other locals dinning when we popped in! Well done Mike a real treat for a Grasmere!

Very average food served apart from the soup which was excellent. The quite small sausage rolls were just plopped on a plate with no extras whatsoever, no salad even to make it look more appetising. Would not return here again, very disappointing and not cheap either

Popped in for lunch today with partner and dog sat out side. Both her sandwich with pea and mint soup to share - delicious! Lovely setting, nice decor inside. Highly recommend

Negligent expensive and don't care about it. Just had a cheese and ham toastie. No mention of the mustard dressing on the salad despite mustard a well known allergen. I could taste the mustard on the toasie. Went back to the menu to check I hadn't missed anything but I hadn't. I aasked he server if there was mustard on the toastie as it wasn't mentioned on the menu. Said it must have come from the salad. Said he would remove the salad negating the fact it had contaminated the toastie. No offer to change my order, refund or even an apology. Perhaps they feel they can treat tourists like this which wrong but I'm not even a tourist. I will make sure all my local friends and those visit to avoid at all costs .

We were lucky enough to find Freda & Ray’s on the night we arrived in Grasmere. They were advertising pizza & cocktails in the evenings and it looked inviting so we booked in and were so glad we did. Pizzas were very good - a great variety of toppings, not just the same old ones. Cocktails were fab too!

Dropped into Freda+Ray for Pizza and Cocktail night. We were pleasantly surprised some of the best pizza we’ve had, accompanied by delicious cocktails and excellent service. Don’t bother with the mediocre 1769 bar across the street, when for the same price you can have a far better dining experience here.

Dropped in for a light lunch after walking up Helms Crag. It’s a simple menu done really well. Excellent hot chocolate and smashed peas with feta and a fried egg. Really nice millionaires shortbread too. Good service and reasonable prices. We will be back to sample the cocktails in the evening next time we’re in Grasmere.

We have just had a delicious Pizza (brie & peach and walnut, Gorgonzola & Parma ham - I don’t even agree with hot fruit on pizza but I’ve changed my mind!) and the Tiramisu - my god!! Lush staff too. Thoroughly recommend.

We visited here twice during our stay in Grasmere, once for a drink before dinner and once for brunch, both of which were just lovely experiences. For starters, the breakfasts were great. The Cumbrian breakfast was delicious, and the baked beans were a real showstopper. For a late afternoon drink it was great, with a nice selection of craft beer cans to enjoy. The staff are really friendly and welcoming which made this a wonderful choice, and it is dog friendly too.

Excellent choice of gluten free for coeiliacs. Hot chocolate and coffee highly recommended, food was lovely too. As a nice touch where they couldn’t do a sausage as part of the breakfast, I was offered extra bacon, instead of the usual where you get less because there’s something you can’t have, even though you’re not just being fussy and have a medical need. Staff were very friendly, and being dog friendly was a bonus too. Had a few nice gluten free cake choices, the coffee & walnut was delicious! Will definitely be back.

Lovely breakfast, clean cafe with a nice chilled vibe. Only one very tiny suggestion - please could you put black pudding on your Cumbrian Breakfast or have it as an extra? I’d happily pay extra to have it :) regular visitors to Grasmere)

A very nice, warm, comfortable atmosphere in this cafe. Staff were friendly and welcomed us and our dog inside on a very wet day in the lakes (not unusual to have wet days out here) LOL. Cafe do have good Wi-Fi availability as well as good food and drinks. Worth a visit. 👍🏻

I love English sandwiches, so the salmon/creamcheese one on white bread was a perfectly executed example of home-cooking deliciousness! Surroundings are relatively modern for Grassmere and you can sit outside. Tea as provided in a pot with exactly the extras you expect from the English. Sit inside or out and of course dogs are welcome.

The best coffee we had in Grasmere. So delicious! Friendly staff. Ran by a lovely family. Highly recommend!

Popped into Freda & Rays after walk to Easedale Tarn. We both had a Cortado and the Gluten Free Lemon and Blueberry Cake. The coffee was excellent, one of the best Cortado’s I have had and that includes Spain! The cake was a delightful compliment to the coffee. The cafe was very clean and the staff very professional. It’s a shame we found on our last day otherwise that would have been our go to all holiday

Had a great lunch here, sat outside in the sunshine. Friendly, helpful service. Large selection of good quality food. Very well priced and good-sized portions. Shame breakfast menu is not available later as we really fancied the Cumberland sausage

Fantastic place, the service was super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend the Raspberry Lemonade and the homemade Sausage Rolls! We will definitely be back again.

Great coffee, perfect macchiato, definitely know their stuff. Staff super friendly, even providing the fells weather forecast prior to setting out! Returned for tea and scones, that were superb. Definitely made this my number 1 place for coffee in Grasmere.

Found this little cafe when we were seeking shelter from the rain! Had a wonderful hot chocolate and home made sausage roll which was enormous. Friendly staff and a quirky little place

THE WORST COFFEE EVER!!!! It looked and tasted like water with re-used coffee grinds. And the peppermint tea came with leaf crumbles. We had single sip and left everything.

We visited this lovely little cafe on Easter Sunday. The coffee was so good and the cakes were delicious. The cafe also served lunch items and their homemade sausage rolls looked so nice. If you’re in the area this is a definite go to.

This place is a hidden gem, opposite the Grasmere Inn, it’s got the most amazing sandwiches and fresh cakes to offer. Had the BLT and best one I’ve had in a long time. Perfect lunch after a walk

Good place to stop for a drink and a cake, but found that there was no atmosphere (and there are places with better cakes if you look around).

Stumbled across this delightful little contemporary cafe . Coffee was lovely and scones to die for . Cakes looked nice too , give it a try. Will definitely be back again .
