Fratelli in Newport

Absolutely great place for food. Came in yesterday around 6 o’clock with mum, mrs and the baby. Place was very warm and cosy and the service/food was exceptional. Thankyou for a great night will definitely be back again.

Excellent food and terrific service

We booked same day for a meal for my partners birthday (as a side note, I asked if there was anything we could arrange to make a fuss of his birthday, and they didn't do anything there. Not a negative as such, but some places go the extra mile to help celebrate special occasions, would have been lovely if they could have done something) Off to a great start in terms of service and food - friendly welcome and a thoughtful touch to bring the child's main at the same time as our starters. The rest of the evening was unfortunately tainted with long waits and a constant struggle to get the attention of the staff, the kind of place where they are very skilled at avoiding eye contact. We noticed the majority of the people around us were struggling with the same. The staff will say it was busy (to be fair it was packed) but their unusual approach to service isn't doing them/their customers any favours. Two examples of inefficiencies: * every time we (eventually) got someone's attention, e.g. to say we are ready to order, then a different person would come back to help us. There was loads of staff there and we ended up speaking with most of them. * the staff all very much were focused on one task at a time, things could be sped up a lot if they tried to tackle multiple needs at once (e.g clear plates, get pizza boxes, get dessert menu all same time would have saved us about 20 mins and multiple awkward attempts to try to get staffs attention) In terms of the food, we had meatball pasta, the fratelli pizza, and a kids fish fingers and chips. Meatball pasta was very tasty, but the large meatballs were dry and I would have really liked more than 2 meatballs. Pizza wasn't great nor authentic at all - some of the ones being served around us looked lovely so maybe just chose the wrong one. Kids meal was fine

My partner and I visited Fratelli’s last week and were so impressed by the incredible food that we decided to return with our family. We booked a table for four (three adults and one child) at 2:20 PM on October 5, 2024. Upon arrival, we chose a table by the window and were promptly given menus. The waiting staff efficiently took our drink orders. One of the highlights of the menu is that it offers a well-curated selection—not overwhelming in size—which was particularly helpful as we were dining with a child with additional learning needs. The simplicity made it easy to choose from. For starters, we ordered the meatballs, cheesy garlic bread, halloumi fries, and olive bruschetta with balsamic. All of these dishes arrived promptly and were delicious. For our mains, we chose the kids’ pepperoni pizza, chicken pizza (without mushrooms), the seafood platter, and the spaghetti and meatballs. Each dish arrived hot and beautifully presented. The sea bass and salmon fillet from the seafood platter were truly exceptional—perfectly cooked with a melt-in-your-mouth texture, complemented by a flavourful white champagne sauce, vegetables, and crispy-skinned potatoes. This dish has become my absolute favourite, surpassing even the carbonara I had on my previous visit, which was also delicious with al dente pasta and rich flavours. We also indulged in desserts and coffee, ordering the chocolate soufflé, three scoops of homemade ice cream, panna cotta, tiramisu, and profiteroles. We paired these with two macchiatos, one cappuccino, and a Coke as a treat for my son. The desserts were outstanding—particularly the tiramisu, which was homemade, fresh, and absolutely delectable. The panna cotta and ice cream were equally impressive, with the vanilla ice cream featuring a refreshing hint of lemon, which kept it light and not overly sweet. In terms of value, the price for everything was very reasonable. For the amount of food and drinks we enjoyed, it came to about £25-£30 per person, which we found generous and fair. Overall, our experience at Fratelli’s was nothing short of excellent. The staff were professional, friendly, and incredibly welcoming. The manager clearly cares for both his staff and his guests, leading by example and fostering a great team atmosphere that is reflected in the outstanding service we received. I would also like to extend my compliments to the kitchen staff and the chef. The food was impeccable—beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, and delicious. We will definitely be returning soon for birthdays and other special occasions! Thank you to the entire team at Fratelli’s—you truly deserve all the tips and more. It was a beautiful experience overall, and we couldn’t have asked for a better meal or service. 10/10

Friendly service, good food, lots of choice on the menu, but items are not obvious if you need vegetarian.

Due to the recently mixed reviews I was unsure about this place, I'm glad I gave it a chance! The portions were huge, I got the starters to go as I knew I wouldn't be able to finish them. The cannelloni was delicious, it was piping hot, they offered parmesan and black pepper to my liking. I had read a previous review that they had stopped providing Lemoncello after the meals, but I was offered one which was a pleasant suprise, as well as a chocolate with the bill. The servers were very attentive (aside from the mention below) I'm unsure if I'll find myself in Newport in the foreseeable future but if I did I would chance coming back here. It would be a 5 but I wasn't checked in on during my meal and the music did stop midway through my meal - they did later turn it back on. I would appreciate if the garlic bread was specified as garlic bread pizza on the starters as I was expecting regular garlic bread.

A little hidden gem in Newport, We found the restaurant by accident on our way home yesterday. the food was very good, little inconsistent with the portions, however delicious and plenty of it. the staff two gentlemen working there yesterday were helpful and attentive to our needs. the restaurant is very nice and clean, see the pictures, the atmosphere was dead, some background music, but not their fault, we visited very early in the evening and a Sunday, so only two couples in the restaurant, people make places, and I'm sure as more people find.

Very good service and food enhanced by the "Italian" atmosphere. An extensive menu with a good range of prices. My wife opted for 2 starters. I had a spicy pasta dish both of which were very tasty.

Firstly, I take no pleasure in writing a poor review for a small business in this climate, but in this case it's necessary as the other reviews do not reflect the experience my family and I had here. The reason for the two positive points on this review is that the restaurant was clean and tidy and the young girl that served us was very polite and friendly. The problem here is the food. We ordered three starters, mozzarella sticks, breaded mushrooms and squid. The mozzarella sticks arrived cold which was unfortunate and could be written off as one of those things but the other two starters were close to inedible. The squid was either hugely overcooked, old, or frozen and reheated as it was so unfathomably chewy, I couldn't bite through it. My partner struggled through but I couldn't eat three of the six rings that arrived. The mushrooms (all three of them) were cooked to the point where every drop of moisture was gone from them and the coating was coagulating on the underside. My guess again is that they were frozen and reheated. The new mozzarella sticks arrived hot but like the other starters, there was no seasoning and they all tasted of nothing other than the breadcrumb/batter coating. The mains arrived hot, one pasta dish was ok and was eaten, the spaghetti and meatballs were overdone once more and were dry and tasteless. Three quarters of the meal was left. My meal had vegetables that were simultaneously overdone (courgette) and underdone (red onion and carrot) at the same time which is a talent in itself. The sauce that came with the meat was so overpowering with salt, it became inedible after a few mouthfulls. The green beans were fine though. This is the first time I can remember where i've been for a meal and payed the bill to the exact penny. Maybe they were just having a bad day , maybe not. Either way I spent £80 for food that was mostly left behind and we all left hungry. Reading the other reviews, maybe there was a different chef or possibly this is an Italian restaurant for people who have never been to a nice Italian restaurant before. I hope the owners read this, take our experience onboard and make some changes.

We booked a table early, the menu was good, I had pork medallions and the wife chose lamb shank, for puddings I had semi freddo and the wife had lemon cheesecake , the food was very good, there is no draught beer only bottles, and the service was ok.

Wonderful ambience and great service. My sea bass was sublime with beautifully cooked accompanying veggies. If it could be slightly improved my partner's lasagne could have done with more meat (that sounds really weird ☺️) but overall a lovely dining experience. Highly recommend!

I was taken out for a retirement meal Thursday March 28th by my friend. The 2 waiters were not friendly and impatient. They jumped onto us straight away, we hadn't even seen the menus. My friend wanted a rose and asked the waiter to recommend one, he didn't have a clue, so I helped her to choose. My friend had mushrooms to start I did not want a starter. My friend had chicken in a mushroom cream sauce, it did not look very appetising, she left a lot of it. I had carbonera, it was awful, very dry and the pasta stuck together. This is usually my favourite dish. The Aldi ready meal carbonera is so much better. I decided not to have a dessert as my main was so disappointing. I will not be going back. Waste of £60

This was a gem of find, especially at lunchtime. Took the mother for a birthday meal, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, attentive and conscientious for dietary requirements. The food was tasty, well cooked, and with the lunchtime deal, well priced. Would definitely return.

Absolutely outstanding Italian food. Everything is freshly cooked and to order. All the dishes served are authentic Italian and the flavours are incredible. We went here once for lunch as we live locally to the restaurant and ended up going back for 6 consecutive Saturdays. Friendly and attentive staff, relaxed atmosphere, fantastic menu. Definitely the best Italian restaurant in Newport and one of the best Italian restaurants we've been to in the UK. Highly recommend.

Not easily impressed with food from Italian restaurants but this was really good. The meatballs were great but the sauce they came in and the bread provided for dipping was superb. I will note that the bruschetta is more of a cheese on toast but that too was delicious. Will definitely order again

Last time we tried to order decided what we wanted and website said they delivered called up but they didn't 😩. Glad we tried again definitely not disappointed. Delivery sooner than stated. Food couldn't of been hotter if we had been sat in the kitchen waiting. Quality and taste out of this world highly recommend.

Absolutely stunning food. Very very tasty. My partner had the fillet steak, which was buttery soft and cooked to medium perfection. I had the arrabiata, which I asked for no olives and additional chicken. It came as I had asked, and was probably the best I've ever had. Staff are also super friendly, attentive and wonderful. Go book your table!!!!.

Visited Fratelli’s for the first time, on Saturday 4th November ‘23. We were warmly welcomed, shown to our table, and drinks order taken. Fabulous choice of food on the menu, we settled for bread & balsamic, and the Frito Misto starters, seafood risotto and tagliatelle with scallops. Absolutely amazing food, not a single criticism, it was hot, and very authentic Italian. My risotto was creamy, well seasoned, and contained excellent quality seafood. My partner devoured the tagliatelle, said it was divine ! We couldn’t help but order desserts, after seeing another table receive theirs ! We had cannoli, and panacota which were both fabulous ! We had limoncello shots, on the house, which was a lovely touch, and really ended our evening with a smile. The staff, and our server, were so friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. The final bill was reasonable considering what we’d had, and we will definitely be visiting again ! Fratelli’s is a little gem of a restaurant, so glad we decided to book.

It was my wife’s Birthday so we went for a birthday meal. Food was amazing. Pizza and Tiramisu was Amazing. Really nice atmosphere. Staff were attentive and looked after us well. Overall cosy place and great food

The food was decent, except for the chips which seemed like they had been left there a while and also there was no notification of when it was ready so I just kind of gave it some time and then went to collect. The staff were also hit or miss, I had some dirty looks when I entered, some staff were really friendly and some were rude.

Looking for a special birthday lunch. It is our first time here and it was superb. Service was excellent and not intrusive. My wife and I had meatballs for starters and followed by rib eye steak chicken main course. We were so pleased with our first visit and will be back soon. Thank you.

I had ribeye steak, my husband had bruschetta and sea bass and dad had whitebait and carbonara. The only things we liked were the whitebait and sea bass. Bruschetta wasn’t your traditional type it was basically cheese and tomato on toast, ribeye well I don’t think it even was, certainly didn’t melt in your mouth, was tough as old bootand carbonara was just spaghetti and thick tough lardons. Sea bass was beautiful and whitebait lovely. If I order again I would choose the sea bass without a doubt.
