Franks in Southend-on-Sea

First time at Franks. Nice décor and warm welcome from the young waitresses. Early Saturday evening was busy and rather loud, with a birthday celebration in full swing on another table. Consequently, our two-couple conversation was rather hard to hear. Maybe, not the venue for an intimate meal then? The food was really tasty, but the tapas style menu was not to my liking and rather disjointed. Gotta be honest, call me old fashioned, but I prefer a formal Starter, Main & Desert layout. I had two Sol beers, but the remaining three only drank water. Consequently, the £190 bill, for what was essentially a selection of Starters did seem rather exorbitant! Maybe, more akin to a younger clientele, especially if in a group of mates and dates and friends...but we won't be rushing back!

The food is phenomenal - enjoyed every single dish. Flavoursome and exotic tastes which make your tastebuds dance with excitement and contentment. Service was friendly and spot on too. Will definitely be going again.

After a few recommendations, I went and tried the set menu and it was just as good as we heard! Food was amazing, the prawns were the best I’ve had! Great service and will definitely be going back!

The service is spot on but not too stuffy, the food is the real star though. In a place where restaurants are two a penny, they stand out for doing their own thing and they have absolutely nailed it. I've been here a fair few times now and probably had most things on the menu and nothing has disappointed me. I will continue to visit, absolutely love it.

Awful food, everything tasted bland and the tacos were very oily and the meat in the tacos looked liked canned tuna even though they was meant to be like pulled pork The chicken in the tacos were over cooked and again very bland Extremely over priced for the amount of food

We went to taco Tuesday and it was great, service was good, tacos were flavoursome and £5 margaritas! Only down side was the Patatas bravas but the chips were great. Really casual dining and offers something a little different to Leigh on sea.. not sure you can get better value in the area (I’ve had some averagely overpriced stuff recently) Would defo go back

Most of the food was very tasty. However, the service was terrible, eg ordered a second bottle of wine, after about 15 minutes sitting with empty glasses we had to chase for our bottle. We then ordered liqueurs, sambuca, one of our group asked for port, didn't have, ginger wine didn't have, then asked for Frangelica, she went away to check and came back saying yes, we have it. The sambuca arrived, we waited and waited Frangelica didn't turn up, we finally managed to get a waitresses attention to ask where Frangelica was, only to be told they didn't have any, they unbelievably hadn't had the knowledge or decency to have told us this.

Found this place by accident, wanted some Mexican food, and saw that this place, had a Taco Tuesday. Ordered two Asada tacos and when they arrived, discovered that they were ok, but, not what I expected, the Margaritas were great, but, the Tacos were a miss.

The food is decent most of the time, can be hit and miss. However, the service is exceptionally poor.

We have visited Franks before and it was a positive experience so we returned. They do an early birds deal where you pick 4 small plates each. They allow individuals at the table to pick different ones, so a group of 4 being savvy could try everything on the menu. They also have deals on cocktails. We enjoyed calamari, burrata, prawns, chicken, fish tacos, beef tacos a sweetcorn and feta salad and patatas bravas, the later being probably my least favourite, but the prawns were amazing. It is great value and I highly recommend it. I was shocked we were the only couple in the place!

I am renouned for being one of the most critical Eaters and I rarely say the words "I will return back" but I have to say that this restaurant did not disappoint..I will absolutely be returning. From start to finish the service and food was incredible. We went on the Tuesday taco night and they were all inventive and flavoursome. The side of peppers and the sweetcorn was yummy and a must try. If you have room.....the churros were a nice sweet little afters. This is one place I will be coming back to very very soon xx

This was our first visit to Franks, but definitely not our last. From arrival to the moment we left, the staff were friendly and attentive. The food is organised in sections, but we were advised to order 3 plates each from across the whole menu. The fish ‘special’ was swordfish and the meat equivalent were lamb koftas, both of which we ordered. All the plates were beautifully presented, and really tasty. We arrived at 7.15pm and left at nearly 10pm, having enjoyed a lovely meal with friends. There are a lot of restaurants in Leigh, but this is a stand out place to eat. Well done to the team.

I went for dinner with friends, having wanting to go for months. It was so nice I took my husband there about a month later! A lovely small plates menu, with regulars as well as specials available. They also do lovely cocktails which I enjoyed sampling. We all got different dishes so we could explore more- soft tacos of fish, lamb neck and pork belly. Elotes, padron peppers (really generous portion), broccoli, patatas shuancaina, tomatoes, fried chicken, crispy squid, plantain chips- a real feast. As I said, I did return! Equally as impressed and would recommend!

It had taken us a while to visit Frank’s as we had heard poor reviews a long while ago and thought there were better options to try first in Leigh. However after going there last night I wish we hadn’t waited so long! The staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable, the food was delicious; the pichana steak and prawns especially . Cocktails were well made and there is an extensive tequila and drinks menu as well as a reasonable wine list. Unlike a few of the restaurants in Leigh, the tables are not crammed together and you can hear yourself talk instead of having banging music in your ears! Great experience. In out top 3.

The local area is becoming a very trendy place to get some food, but this is one of the first restaurants in the area to introduce the idea of small plates and socialising whilst eating. I have frequented to this place many times, and still always very excited to see the ever-changing menu, which offers influence from South America in particular. This is consistently one of the best restaurants around, and I always enjoy pairing my stunning meal with an outstanding bottle of wine

Interesting decor. A cross between a crèche and a botanical garden. A casual brunchy sort of place which is their aim. Menu was interesting and would suit the local hipsters who like pickled cabbage with everything. No standard fare here. Staff were not at all attentive and for an empty restaurant the service was glacial. I had a wagyu burger which was excellent. Tho the deep fried crushed potatoes were flavourless. My wife had a skillet which she wasn’t that impressed with. The churros were lovely tho the two dips detracted rather than added. A miss for us I’m afraid.

I went to Frank’s when it first opened and actually wasn’t that happy with the food (understandable opening week snags) so have only ever gone for cocktails - however this week have experienced their new menu and it’s incredible, so we came back this morning....

Food was bursting with flavour, the drinks were spectacular. I’ll be returning very very soon to show it off to my friends and family.

An absolute gem in the heart of a great town. Amazing food, cracking cocktails, second to none service. Cannot fault. Will be back!
