A lovely little bistro, scores very highly for atmosphere (music and decor). It uses a small menu which changes daily but this means fresh ingredients! Friendly and helpful staff. We were in town for several days and ate here twice.

First visit to this bistro on a friend’s recommendation. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, good food and very reasonably priced wine. If you want a huge menu and a fine dining experience then probably not for you but we thought the blackboard menu offering 4 starters, 4 main courses and puddings was lovely. Really good value for money at just over £30 per head for three courses. Between the four of us we had 3 of the 4 main courses and all agreed we would happily have eaten any of them. Salmon and prawn blinis were a highlight. Highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again.

Small simple menu, £10 for lunch per head. Was perfect for our lunch stop along the A4 Seems very popular with locals. Toilet however is is very compact.

Very disappointing meal, food was very bland and no real flavour, service was ok but not what we had hoped for - expensive meal for what it was and sadly won’t be returning.

Franklyn's is a welcoming and cosy local bistro serving well-priced French wine and food. Very friendly and efficient service. Our £20 bottle of red wine was notably good and we particularly enjoyed the pork belly, which was tender and well cooked. Despite it being a wet and wintry Tuesday night almost all the tables were full - and I can see why.

Sadly, we were underwhelmed by the menu, although the restaurant was quite cozy and comfortable, representing a typical french cafe. My wife did say to me when we looked at the very limited menu, "shall we stay as nothing floats my boat" We stayed. Service was good and attentive, but the food lacked panache, it was under seasoned, and the sauce which was served with the dish was watery. the meat content was rubbery. Being a hospitality professional, not a Chef, I was concerned it did not provide value for money. A very small kitchen trying to produce meals. Mmmmmm......!

Great atmosphere and service. For a Thursday evening, they were very busy and having to turn away people who hadn't booked. Limited menu (personally I prefer not to have too many options and you then know that everything is fresh!); all our dishes were well cooked and tasty. Definitely not fine dining but that is reflected in the prices (including very reasonably priced wines). We will definitely return!

Ignore the first review. We've been 3 or 4 times and haven't been disappointed. The format is simple, a choice of four starters and four main courses on a blackboard followed by the desert menu. Fine dining it isn't but that's not what you go to a bistro for. The dishes are very tasty, excellent value and there is a very welcoming and cosy atmosphere. Recommended.

My daughter suggested that we should dine here, although she advised me that she had not yet tried out this restaurant. Set in the rich town of Marlborough we felt sure that we would get a good meal that purported to be "A French Bistro". I did not order a starter as as I was told I could eat some of the dish my daughter ordered. I ordered the fish risotto that turned out to be rice pudding with some prawns added. I left most of it on the plate. My apple tart was equally dire and for us, the meal was a disaster. It was a gross insult to the poor French.

A brunch. All good here. Service a bit slow and tough old bacon. A social hub for the City

We stayed at Whatley Manor for 2 nights in December 2004, it is an excellent hotel in a period building, which means that it is not possible to install air conditioning. This is the second time that we have stayed there the previous time being about ten years ago at the edge of the season. At that time we found that the heat of the bedroom was unbearable, after complaining they did install a portable unit which was hopelessly inadequate. So this time we chose December as it would be a cold month with the airconditioning not being an issue. How wrong we were, my wife can't sleep if she is sweltering so she got very little sleep, I managed but was not comfortable despite it being cold outside. The staff were excellent no issues with them at all, Greys restaurant was awful I gave it one star on tripadvisor but would have given it a fraction of a star if it had been available. However the michelin restaurant and staff were excellent. The rooms are very comfortable. I would recommend it providing that you go in the winter or are able to sleep in such heat. It has the atmosphere of the F Dorchester or Ritz in London, we have stayed at all the top hotels in London and it compares on a par with those nearly, not quite. I can't imagine the restaurants in either of those hotels or Claridges or the Lanesborough serving up the rubbish that we were served with at the Greys restaurant at Whatley. IF we go again we will just eat at the michelin restaurant, but there are plenty of other better places to stay in the area, Raymond Blanc's Manoir for instance.
