The best Italian restaurant on wigan by a country mile. Food is so fresh and tasty and excellent value. Highly reccomend.

have to say it was the best steak i have ever had and the sauce was so amazing i could have licked my plate.we had a sharing platter to start and we both had steak but i had the mignon of steak i would recomend deffinately

It's always a pleasure to visit this restaurant. We've been eating here for more than twenty years and the service is always polite and friendly. Most importantly, the quality of the food is consistently excellent. In more recent years, there has been a focus on the presentation of the food and the decor of the building. Somehow, the cost of a meal is still very reasonable. It's always a joy to visit and, once again, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal this weekend. It reminded me that we should visit more often. Thank you to all the staff who work very hard to ensure Franco's remains the best restaurant in town. Don't miss out!

Amazing food. We hadn't been since before covid. I had stuffed mushrooms for starter. You got lots. Then steak diane perfectly cooked , medium. No gristle or fat. Just lovely. Great service and a really lovely place to eat. .

Arrived in Wigan later in the day on a Saturday evening and had a quick check of local restaurants and so glad we picked Franco's! We received a friendly welcome and wonderful food. Shared pizza / pasta and it was all excellent service from the staff, lovely atmosphere and the old building had so much charm, we loved it! Thank you for fitting us in Franco's, much appreciated!

3 course meal for 13 of us on our works Xmas do. Food was delicious and the staff were very attentive. There was a live singer who was fabulous and the atmosphere was great. Really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you.

Had a delicious steak cooked perfectly as requested here this evening. Thanks to all the staff especially Kala (apologies if that’s not spelt correctly!) for fantastic service. I’ll be back with work & maybe for pleasure if I’m passing through. My only request next time will be to have the steaks sauce on the side. Thanks again.

We called on a Tuesday evening and it was perfect.The food the service was as good as I remember it over a year ago.It’s a shame the main man wasn’t there but his second in command made up for it.Keep up the good work.

my wife and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary so decided to treat ourselves to Francos. the food was delivered exactly on time. we ordered peppered steak. King prawn starter. penne calibraise spaghetti carbonara for our grandson with garlic bread. bbq ribs. stuffed mushrooms. the food was amazing hot and delicious. it is a little more expensive than your normal takeaway. but how many times have you been disappointed in your pizza or donner meat or fried chicken. Well you definitely won't be disappointed with francos. can't praise it enough 5 stars we'll done.

We have ordered from Francos multiple times during lockdown, and every time the service and food has been excellent. The ordering process is easy, delivery is always on time or slightly early, which is great. Delivery drivers are friendly. Food is always hot, delicious and plentiful. Such a treat to have restaurant quality food at home. Francos is our go to restaurant for an evening out, and we can't wait to be able to get back to eating in the restaurant.

We have just celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary with a meal delivered from Francos. The meal was excellent and delicious with generous servings. The young man who delivered it was very well mannered.

Placed an order online for delivery for the first time. Well impressed!!Online ordering was simple and estimated delivery slot was correct. Food arrived hot and well packaged. Couple of pizzas, burger and peri peri strips meal. I had the chicken strips and since having covid virus 4 weeks ago not tasted anything....I could taste this!! Hot and delicious. Will be ordering again in the future

Disappointed with the usually good standard of Francos. My take away lasagne was cold. Franco said that lasagne is usually just warm because it doesnt travel well. Think its bs to be honest, had la cava and olive garden, both were piping hot. Franco said we'd have to put it in oven. No such instructions or ordering. Think they couldnt be arsed to be fair. Wont be going again unfortunatley

Thoroughly disappointed. Always wanted to come to this restaurant and saw good reviews so decided to go. Staff were okay and all had masks but the food was disgusting. It came out far too quickly for me to believe it had been freshly cooked. My margarita pizza had a very strange taste, hardly any tomato and all cheese which was very sweet and so thick and stringy I almost choked on it. My parent’s penne arrabiata was not great. My mum thought the sauce was off, it wasn’t a red tomato sauce but more brown. My chocolate fudge cake seemed microwaved and my mum was convinced her cheesecake was from Tesco. Don’t know if they were having an off day but it was a complete waste of £60 - not autentic italian food at all! My family and I all felt very sick afterwards. Will never come again.

Went for a family meal during the Eat out to help out - Restaurant was really busy whilst we was there - waiting time was average and Food was average.Didnt get the 50% off our bill and had to call up to rectify, they did sort it though

Called at short notice on a Saturday, was able to book a table. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the price excellent. would recommend to all and will call again when back in the area

Can't fault this place at all, defo a 5* from us! Pizza was delicious, pasta was amazing. Our order arrived 10 minutes early and the delivery girl was friendly and polite. Portion sizes were huge and piping hot. Would recommend 100% 😁

Had a takeaway meal from here on 7/5/20 for my Birthday, the food was delicious, I asked for extra chilli in my seafood marinara and it was delicious, my husband had the steak Diane which was a really good sized portion and my mum had the salmon with prawns which she loved. I even received a birthday card from Franco which was really thoughtful and kind. Will definitely be re ordering . Thank you Franco and your staff xx

A great experience. Staff are very friendly and food is great. There's a large selection on the menu and a great choice of drinks. The food is well prepared and you can tell the satff care about quality. One of the nicest restaraunts in town and will definately go back there.

I'm putting this on for others who may also get caught out. For around 15 years we have been coming to Franco's and enjoyed an occasional, many work-based leaving parties as well as family celebrations, in fact my daughter held her 30th birthday party there eighteen months ago. Last Sunday evening we visited again, first time in a while, and have today received a £100 parking fine for parking in the small carpark next to the restaurant where we have always parked. Whilst I appreciate the area is next to a euro car park I certainly wasn't aware that the whole of this area is now payable parking 24 hours, hence the fine. Our fault I know for not taking time to read the small print and assuming nothing had changed, however the reaction from Franco's staff on being told of this was simply 'we have and never have had a carpark.' Maybe not, but maybe a sign, a poster or something to advise loyal paying customers of this would be a thoughtful gesture. I'm sure we can't be the only ones to get caught out but it definitely won't happen to us again as we'll be looking elsewhere for our family celebrations.

Excellent atmosphere such good staff always have a smile on there faces the food is faultless and great selection of drinks Franco is a lovely man very hospitable and if you want to make a night of it Premier Inn at the back..

Food was great, however this place does the best Amarone i have ever tasted. Nice atmosphere and superb prices. Great for groups too.

Went with a party of three people, Food was good and portion sizes where generous, service was good but some waiters who where young lacked the experience as it was quite a while before our tables where clear of empty plates and empty glasses at one point I needed to ask for another drink but overall it was an OK restaurant

We were recommended to visit by a business partner who on own admission hadn’t been for about 9 months.Early warning signs of what laid ahead were from the taxi driver who said ‘It’s not what it used to be’On arrival after booking, told to go to bar and order drinks, not asked, told because table not ready.That was fine, opportunity to look at menu and excused rudeness as we were a last minute booking.However that was the highlightFood was at best average bordering on poor. Pizzas doughy, pasta thick and stodgy, side salad from the 80’s with iceberg lettuce, chunks of unseeded tomato, raw white onion and grated carrot.One of our group ordered pizza and got pasta, when queried waitress told him he obviously wasn’t clear when ordering but would replace.When pizza arrived was not hot through .Never like to give negative reviews as businesses do make mistakes, hence average score as other large parties seemed to be enjoying their eveningMaybe a word of advice to ownersIf you accept a last minute small booking, make sure you can provide them the service and quality of food they expect from a recommendation they have been given else you may find more of these types of reviews but without such empathy.

We found this place as the result of an impromptu decision to eat out after a matinee at a nearby venue. When I called to ask if they could fit us in they were very helpful and also gave us some ideas for the closest parking.We arrived and were welcomed to a lovely bar area which has an excellent selection of drinks to suit all tastes. The barman was friendly and able to offer good advice on drink selection. Our orders were taken promptly and before long we were escorted to a table by a waitress who greeted us with a warm smile and professional manner.There was no shortage of staff to assist and each of us received our meals at the same time.The food itself was declared delicious unanimously among our group of 5 which included a range of tastes.The menu is comprehensive but that doesn't translate into mediocre dishes as sometimes happens with large menus. Even at an early sitting (we arrived just after opening time) there was enough people there to provide a good atmosphere and the people around us seemed to be having as good a time as we were.For us it was the perfect end to a great day.

Working in Wigan for 2 days and wanted something really nice to eat..I challenged them to do a great seafood linguine and they didnt disappoint! The garlic prawn starter was plentiful and so tasty. The entrance environment when you arrive is a little strange( bit like an old pub) but dont be put off as upstairs is nice and the service is great!

We enjoyed our meal at Franco's. The restaurant was packed on what we expected to be a quiet Tuesday night and we soon found out why it was so busy. No frills but good portions, hot plates, tasty food well cooked. There was a large, smiling waiting team to ensure the service was friendly and efficient. While there was an array of pasta dishes to choose from the pizza menu didn't match it but that wasn't a problem - we went for pasta and we weren't disappointed. The sauces were tasty and generously served over perfectly cooked pasta. When the bill arrived it was great value for money. The only criticism would be the noise levels - like so many restaurants there are no soft furnishings to absorb the noise and conversation was a little difficult. Other than that a very pleasant experience and we'll go again.

Visited here yesterday as it was my sons birthday,have to say Franco was very helpful and accommodating I had sent several messages beforehand and always got a prompt reply,

The food was less than average, the staff actually looked as though they didn't want to be there either. On top of that, to be charged nearly the price of a bottle of a certain Brandy for one glass was outrageous, it has never been that price anywhere else (and I've dinned in most restaurants in Wigan). The only clientele I can imagine that WOULD dine there on a regular basis, are those who are half-cut on a night out around Wigan, those that don't want to queue up for their usual Kebab. There are so many more quality restaurants in Wigan that are better all-round, please don't fall for the easy option. Disappointed was an understatement.

This is the first time we have been to Francos and the food was amazing! My cousin was staying with us from London so we thought we would try it after hearing some great reviews. They take your order in the bar area before you sit down which we thought was abit strange at first but this just meant your food arrived quickly. The food was fresh and tasted great. There is a pay and display car park at the back of the restaurant which is cheap enough. We will definitely be back.

Lovley restraunt, great host and attentive staff food was really good, altho we pre ordered 43 people served all around the same time which is remarkable,be visiting again definatly

Have been using Franco's for years never changes food always excellent, as is the service. Portions really good for prices. Only one request please put Tiramaisu on early bird menu

Been here and really enjoyed it but have also been and it was not so great. Better experience for couples or small groups, have beneath large groups and the food does not seem as good. Usually decent service, drinks a bit pricey. The pasta dishes are excellent.

Staying nearby at the Premier Inn I was wanting some food before heading to an event in town. Had walked past before, read the reviews and thought Franco's would ideal. Didnt want to eat at the hotel when better local restaurants around! I rang up around half five to ask if they could fit me in, not always popular being a loan diner but they said that was fine. I was first sat at the bar to look at the menus, I knew what I wanted already but got a lovely cold Peroni! Chise from the m early bird menu then shown upstairs, it was already busy being a Friday. A nice mixture of families and couples. The food came promptly. Large portion of prawns in the prawn cocktail, lasagne was delicious, as were the profiteroles, wonderful value. Excellent service, lots of staff, popular with the locals, authentic family run Italian, will visit again if in Wigan!

£13.95 early evening menu, available all evening Mon/Tues is good value. Wasn't overly impressed with the breaded mushrooms but the lasagne was great, and my salmon well cooked with a tasty cream sauce. No idea why there's salad on a hot fish dish though when served with a sauce, potatoes, carrots/broccoli. I'm guessing the a la Carte menu would be better quality/quantity as has a much greater choice to pick from. Wasn't convinced by the coke being genuine though. Couldn't fault the number of staff who all seemed to be enjoying what they were doing. Very busy for a Monday on both floors. So overall I enjoyed it on a budget but wouldn't give it 4 stars, next time I'll splash out to see the difference.

Went here on 140619 for my eldest grandsons 10th Birthday. We had the early bird meal at £13.95 per head and I have to say whilst understandably the choices were from the basics, they were done to a very high standard. My wife had a Steak Rossini off the a la carte rather than early bird and it melted ion your mouth. There seemed to be more than enough staff and service was very attentive and responsive. We were a part y of 7 and all our mains came at the same time not something I see very often. Its just on the outskirts of the town centre with an ample pay and display car park at the rear. We all loved it - great job.

Stopped at the premiere inn in Wigan looking for a restaurant to eat at and found Francos what a lovely restaurant good Italian food would recommend it if your in wigan

We have lived in Wigan for many years however we have only ever visited Franco's as part of a celebration never just as a family.

We went early evening, as they do a special, a first time visit for me, as I'm not that keen on Italian food, however, I tried a pasta dish, and was not disappointed, and they do have a different non Italian dishes to offer also, lovely and freshly cooked, plenty to keep you filled, and an array of soft, and alcoholic drinks.

Went to Francos at Christmas x food was great, entertainment was fabulous and then you have Franco, what’s not to love about this place.

Been tonight first ever visit, no idea why we haven’t been before, starters mains dessert all for 13.95 all the food was fantastic daughter loved her main course potion size brilliant, had a few gins brilliant choice lovely staff very pleasant honestly 5 star from us definitely will visit again

14 of us tucked in to the offer of three courses for £13.95, food was great, staff very friendly, all in all a great evening would thoroughly recommend

When I go to Wigan I always try and get into franco’s for a meal.

Excellent meal before a rugby meet and greet. Hubby had stuffed pepper to start, said it was beautiful. Pate to start was lovely, never had it with garlic bread before!! Tagliatelle was very filling X

Was looking forward to visiting Franco’s as I’d been there 8 years ago and it was lovely! Not this time unfortunately. Crammed together, hardly any room to move, so loud I couldn’t hear any conversations. Won’t mention some of the rudeness that occurred and defiantly spoiled the night from the manager.

Works visit, never been to Wigan before! I had the king prawns, and they were to die for! Followed up nicely with Steak Diavolo, bellissimo, cooked to perfection. Highly recommended, as other reviews have also stated, the staff are exceptional, friendly, polite and a credit to themselves

How absolutely lovely! Had a wonderful time with my family (7 of us) to celebrate my birthday, never been before, but we got together, great menu choice, and our food was fantastic! Served by the most fabulous staff, a true credit to you! From the drinks when we arrived ( my pink gin was so beautifully presented, thank you x), the superb staff continued to be pleasantly attentive, most refreshing that they knew when to approach, and when not to, as I have said already, an absolute credit to you! Passing though Wigan and needed somewhere for our evening meal tonight. Walked past Franco's, so decided to go in. We fell lucky. The service was extremely attentive. Staff are plentiful, all having their own jobs, it made the service flow like a lovely oiled machine, headed we think by a head waitress who was friendly and smiley. The place was very busy for the good value "early bird", and was pretty full by 6pm (generally we take that as a very good sign). The early bird was £13.95 for 3 courses, and all 3 courses were VERY tasty, decent portions, with a good range of choice. I had vegetarian aubergine penne, my husband the chicken rissotto main, these followed a bruschetta starter, and all were good quality, tasty, wholesome food. I didn't have room for pud, so bought it away with me! Would thoroughly recommend as a brilliant choice for an Italian meal in Wigan.

We are regular visitors to this restaurant and cannot fault it! The food is great value for money, the waiting staff are always attentive, never leave you waiting. We regularly take advantage of the early bird offer with is a three course meal for £12.95 and the selection is great! Recommend the Pollo A La Crema every time!

Ate here with friends on a Friday night. Arrived at 7 pm and the bar was already busy . Took a seat in the bar area and enjoyed a few drinks before going upstairs to eat.

Best described as a cheap and cheerful restaurant to line the stomach before a night on the town. There is nothing remotely Italian about this place other than the owner! Don’t expect much and you won’t be disappointed.

Went with friends on a Sunday evening. I had the early bird menu which was only £13,95. As starter i had chicken liver pate, main pasta and dessert cheese cake. All 3 dishes delicious and big portions as well. I will go back for sure!

I visited this restaurant few weeks ago for the first time. The first impression wasn't great, the building looks better on the outside than inside. The room upstairs needs revamp and we felt overcrowded, there's not much room between tables. The food however was nice and well cooked.

Went here on a mid week special 3 course's £15.00. The food was fantastic, staff very friendly. Amazing value would certainly recommend Franco's to anyone wanting a Great Meal.

Despite only having 4.1/5 on here, we thought we would give this place a go. Called a few days before to reserve a table and were told “there’s no need, just turn up and you’ll be seated”, thought this was odd as it was for a Saturday night but we went with it. We turned up and noted 3 members of staff stood waiting, none of them so much as smiling, despite it being very busy in the restaurant. We asked for a table and were brushed off with an “if you wait yes, I can’t give you a time, maybe 15 maybe 30 I don’t know”, so we left and found a better restaurant. I wouldn’t have minded a wait on a Saturday night but we were specifically told there was no need to book, and the attitude of the staff was awful. Stop being so pretentious, you’re a small Italian in Wigan for goodness sake.

what a brilliant night we had last night ! food was delicious , franco and his staff were fantastic and so was paul who kept us entertained all night .

Me and my partner booked a table for the first sitting new years eve, on entry we were greeted by Franco himself who showed us to the bar where I had the strawberry gin and prosecco cocktail, my partner the blueberry gin cocktail.. both amazing. Having pre-ordered our food we were shown to our table by a smartly dressed and very presentable waitress who also took our drinks to the table. The restaurant was decorated to a high standard and felt very christmassy with stockings and lights around the walls. Many guests were already eating their starters as we sat down and just by looking at the food we knew we were in for a treat. My partner ordered the soup and I the pate which were both out of this world. After a short wait and a few sips of our cocktails our mains followed, two champagne chickens with fresh veg and Italian potatoes!absolutely fantastic! For dessert my partner had the cheese board and I the limoncello tiramasu which was made fresh by Franco himself! My dessert was so good I paid for an extra slice to eat at home! After our desserts I had a Bailey's coffee and ameretti biscuit which was made to the highest of standards. The 3 course meal and all the drinks we had came in at a more than reasonable price for new years eve or Indeed any day of the year. This wasn't our first visit to Francos and it certainly won't be out last. If you want to visit an authentic Italian restaurant, you appreciate attentive fine dining service and also the finest fresh food then by all means visit this restaurant it will not dissapoint!!! Upthrust good work to Franco and his team for making our night so special and all the best for 2018 !!

Ate here with work colleagues on the evening of Friday 15th December for the company Christmas do. Food average at best, service average but £15 for three course I suppose you can't expect too much. It probably didn't help that I was driving and therefore couldn't drink any alcohol. However, my colleagues seemed to enjoy themselves. In addition the music was way too loud for my personal liking but then perhaps I am too old.

Been here numerous times - still brilliant. Partner and I are both vegetarian. Usually get stuck with a boring margarita pizza in restaurants as there is a lack of choice. It’s fantastic here though - numerous pasta dishes that are delicious. Came here again tonight after not coming for a while. The quality is still high and hasn’t dropped which is great to see. Keep it up!

Myself and my partner came here on Sunday night. As we walked in we were greeted by a friendly gentleman who proceeded to take us over to the bar. We then purchased a bottle of rose wine served ice cold in a wine cooler and a pint of lemonade in a lovely jug. We were then greeted by a lovely young lady who escorted us up the stairs to our table with our drinks. Table service was quick and so professional. Our orders were taken and our starters brought out in a couple of minutes. I ordered the chicken liver pate which was exceptional and presented amazingly. My partner had the stuffed pepper which cane out hot and very well presented. Our plates were cleared really quick and our mains came out. I had the chicken risotto which was the nicest risotto I have ever had and my partner had the lobster ravioli which was lovely and flaky to the touch. All in all I think very highly of this restaurant and cone here very often for our 'Date night's staff cannot do enough for you and the service is always exceptional!

We went to Franco’s last night a group of 20 and more the food was extremely average the most anglicised Italian food ever over priced for what they had offered the service was not bad but in our party one of us who didn’t want mushrooms in his plate had to wait so long that many others had already finished their main course.The Christmas crackers were the lowest quality that they could get away with.I personally will not come back to Franco’s for Italian experience.I hope my feedback helps others to choose where to go and helps the Franco’s managers to improve their services Thank you for reading.

Really can’t fault Franco’s, we eat here on a regular basis as couples or family, every time we go we are welcomed and have great food with a superb service.Highly recommend!

Went with a group of friends and had a fantastic night. The food was lovely and the service excellent. We sat at our table for a couple of hours before moving to the sofas so the girls could set up for the next day. Not once were we made to feel rushed. Franco himself was lovely and very attentive. We shall certainly be back.

We arrived at 7.45pm for a reservation at 8pm and it was nearly 8.30pm before we were seated at our table. Our starters were lovely but I found that the choice for mains all seemed to be accompanied by a sauce, I usually have fish in Italian restaurants and the 3 or 4 choices I had were all served in sauces. I chose the swordfish and found it dry and over cooked. I had tiramisu for desert which was lovely though

Love this restaurant the food is immense the staff are friendly and helpful always trying to make you feel special, toilets could use an upgrade but everything else is great

We called in on spec and had a really good meal. Only had pizzas but both were very good. Hate going cold to a new town and trying to get a decent meal but well impressed with Franco's staff, service and food
