Fox & Hounds in Peterborough

Meal out for 6 on a Sunday evening. Pre booked and arrived at 5pm. Seated and drinks sorted. Bit pricey for the drinks. Mixture of beers and wines and a few soft drinks. Ordered food and waited for it to arrive. A mixture of started. Most said were average at best, but mine was very poor, to be honest. Ordered chicken straps, and they were in a tempura batter. It's very dry and totally tasteless. I'd struggle to give them a 2 out of 10. Main courses arrived. Again, we all had something different, but portions were very small and again disappointed with the quality. My wife had roast pork, and it was 1 single piece that was 50% fat. Within two bites, she had finished the meat. I had the steak and ale pie, which was more like fat and ale. The pastry was very tall, but inside the fatty, the mess was not nice at all. Alongside the pie, I had 10 chips and 1 single piece of brocoli. Attention to detail was lacking. As usual, we were asked if everything was OK after we had eaten. We said it wasn't very nice to be met with an upturned nose and indignant look. We've just spent £180 and all left a little disappointed. Won't be going back again until they sort out the kitchen and serving staff.

We arrived early on a drive to Thorpe Park, this was our stop off. Good food at a good price. Would stop of again...

First time for brekky here. Had full English and one of the best I've had. Even the mushroom was done on the grille. Very thick slice of bloomer toast with proper butter. Coffee was smooth just the way I like it

Visited as a couple on a weekday lunchtime. Only intended to get a light lunch, but the menu tempted us into a full 3 course meal, which was exceptional in every way. The menu has a very good variety of choices, including vegetarian/vegan. It was so good to find somewhere that served food that was outside the box of basic pub grub. From the dishes we tasted, the kitchen staff deserve a huge well done, and he photos say it all! The table service was also fantastic; attentive but not overly so, with friendly staff. Overall, the meal we had at the Fox and Hounds was by far the best we have had in a pub restaurant in Peterborough, so much so that we booked our extended family Christmas meal here on our visit! Will most definitely be returning very soon.

The service was great. We had one vegan in our group, and they added HONEY & mustard dressing to her salad. It was quickly exchanged, though when queried what was on the salad. Had no vegan mayonnaise either when it was asked for, we were told they had run out and it had not been delivered since. Otherwise, it was a pleasant enough lunch, a really good deal with their 'lunch & a drink for £10'. Would go again.

We usually love to come to the Fox and Hounds but tonight was very disappointing, food pretty good as usual, not many in so couldn't really comment on the atmosphere but the staff I am afraid only scored a 1...this was because they were inattentive, took ages to come and take and order for drinks - by then we had decided on food so that helped allay more delays. We needed some more mayo and another drink - so I went to see if I could find someone - two of the staff were stood drinking and chatting in a little alcove...not good and less said! If this was my first experience of the Fox and Hounds I wouldn't be back - but let's see if it improves... Went back fir another try..food was shocking, staff inattentive, one drink and was never asked if we wanted another and it took 50 minutes for our good to arrive, so not sure we will be going back!

We have been here several times and always had great service. The food is very nice and cooked just right. We have recommended it to our friends who have also had nice meals here. The staff are excellent and work really hard to give the customers great satisfaction. Graham.

It's a chain pub. Food and service are quite good. And at a reasonable price

Very slow service, meals wasnt complete, staff didn’t come and check it was ok, lack of staff on a Sunday, Sunday dinner was very poor. Lack of veg, small portion but bulked with roast potatoes (tasted as if they had been reheated) wasn’t busy at 4.20pm and didn’t leave until 6.20pm.

We had Sunday breakfast at Fox and Hounds. And it was lovely!. We were there around 11:00 ish. It was not busy at all, nice and quiet. Very quick and polite service from the minute we sat down at the table and ordered our food until the very end. Staff was friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is lovely in there! Really nice. Dogs are welcome as well. Food was delicious. Definitely will come back there!

Lunchtime meals were very disappointing the chips where over cooked and dry and the fish was very small the second meal was very over cooked and the chicken strips were hard with no chicken inside the strip. The waitress was very welcoming. Very noisy due to workmen working in the restaurant section

Varied menu with lots of vegetarian options. Good beer selection.good parking around the back of the building. Nice atmosphere, updated decor but still traditional.

We visited the Fox and Hounds on Tuesday, served by Louis Alex and Jasmine, arrived just after 2pm. It was my mothers 65th birthday, we had the warmest welcome, candles on the table lit, a little bottle of Prosecco for my mum and a Birthday card from Jasmine and the Team, such a lovely touch and loved by my mother. There were 6 of us in the party, food was quick hot and delicious. I can’t thank you enough! Thank you for making my mothers birthday so memorable

The place is nice and welcoming, the outside seating area is beautiful, the food is amazing( that little pots with rosemary placed on the tables are brilliant and loved it) the service is 5*, and last but not least is dog-friendly. Highly recommend!

My self and partner been to this venue few times but on the 2nd June 2024 was disappointed A. Asked for a bottle of Shiraz and was given organic one ! N had to go to the Bar to sort this out n get alternative as didn’t have a normal Shiraz bottle.B Then my partner had steak which was rubbery chewy !! I mean we paid good money for it to have poor quality and service. C I had salmon but had 4big potatoes and three sermon tender broccoli with small salmon piece !! Disappointed I do feel the lack of staff 2 through the evening is disappointing as could see both the staff really helpful but very busy and this resulted in the customer service. Previous we have had Jasmine who have been around the table asking if everything was ok did get that though her name was on the Board in charge!!!! I feel for the money we spent on bottle of wine £27. N the meal £70 is you expect better.

Hard veg, (beyond being al dente) pie had very little meat content, plenty of ale tho, chips were good tho

Good parking. I ate the butternut squash soup that was delicious. The Korean chicken was very well cooked and delicious. The apple tart was lovely.

The staff seems snoby and uninterested. The floor had clearly not been hoovered in ages as there was crumbs everywhere. The breakfast sounded lovely on the menu and was very disappointing. Best part of the vist was the puppy. Glad it's at least dog friendly. I much prefer the Boathouse

We stopped off here for a meal after a day out at the beach it was half way home. We had a warm welcome, we had our dog with us. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was delicious and nicely presented. My only criticism is that the zero alcohol beer was £4.35 a bottle!!!! We will definitely return when in the area again.

We have been going to the Fox and Hounds for years. It was one of our favourite local pubs. However unfortunately every time we have visited in the last 6 months it seems to be getting a little worse. We visited on the Thursday before the Easter bank holiday break. The manager hadn't staffed the evening correctly which meant that the staff that were working were running like headless chickens. Our food was really slow to be served. The atmosphere wasnt great because the poor staff members were constantly running back and forth. To make it all worse it was really cold in the pub. We had our coats on through the entire duration of the visit. We definitely wont be visiting again.

I am not impressed, my meal was very meagre & took nearly an hour to get it to the table. No apologies for the poor service. Won't be coming back !!!!!!

Despite previous good experiences at the Fox&Hounds yesterday was very disappointing. I encouraged a group of nine to have lunch with me and although the food was generally good, the service was extremely slow and the staff needed reminding to clear the table and again to take orders. The most significant issue was how cold it was in the restaurant and even though my guests kept their outdoor coats on to eat their meals, no attempt was made to offer heating. I'm sorry I recommended the Fox&Hounds.

Truly glacial service.....2hrs 45 mins from start to finish!! Such a shame won't be going again.

Food was absolutely diabolical cold meat was grey portion size appalling. Absolutely bad value for money and have gone down hill BIG TIME

We had a family meal on 23rd March , we had a large choice of dishes to choose from, all five of us had something different and all agreed the food was very tasty and good value. It was presented beautifully and the evening was only made better by a wonderful server Kush who looked after us the whole evening. He was very attentive and guided us through our choice of drinks and also helped my daughter with her choice of food as she is vegetarian and has a couple of allergies. Thank you Kush you are a great asset to the Fox and Hounds and we will see you soon

The cheese and bacon burger was pretty good.

Great pub with friendly staff and tasty food. Attentive staff Would recommend the chickpea curry and steak, and how a cheesecake be improved - put sticky toffee pudding on top genius

We had the shared platter for starter between 3 & it was delicious. Sadly my mushroom & ale pie wasn't so good. Veg was overcooked & peas dried up, pastry was hard to cut & eat & contents was non existent! My friends, however, enjoyed their mains of curry & mixed grill. My pie main was taken off the bill with apologies.

Hi we took our brother inlaw out for his 80th birthday lunch last Saturday and here are our findings! Firstly the price for halfa lemonade and lime £4.10 which is absolutely ridiculous?? On to the food my brother in laws meal was very good he had the chicken meal was very good 👍 no complaints there but me and my sister had the steakpie and vegetables with chips for my self and new potatoes for my sister in law ! Although the pie looked very nice and quite tasty there was very little content in the pie and I just had a handful of chips ?? My wife meal was the mushroom pie again very little content in the pie but again was quite tasty in general the portions were very poor ! I think this needs looking into ?? But the main objective was my brother in law was happy 😊 pity about the other 3 meals and the price of the lemonade and lime which equates to£8.10 for a soft drink ?? Not on to be fair regards not a very happy customer!

Went for lunchtime food, Mixed Grill was really good as was salted caramel sundae. Overall very impressed.

Had lunch with three friends. It was a lovely venue and the staff were attentive and friendly. Service was a little slow, but it was busy and the food was good.

Food was OK. Vegetables were a little hard. Seemed to be short staffed . Also very disappointed as beer choice was very limited.

Food is always great however went on 27/1 and it wasn’t a great experience. Ordered drinks on arrival which took a while to come, in the meantime a table near us returned pink chicken. Ordered more drinks before the main course and they never came, no one came to ask for a dessert order so I went to the bar, paid and left. So disappointing that the food is so good but the service poor

Unfortunately we didn't enjoy our experience here much. Our local Greene King pub offers more choice of food and theres more staff so your not waiting around. The food was below par, order fish that was dripping in oil and tough/fatty meat on the mixed grill. Steak requested medium/well and it came beyond well. We ordered two fish and chip meals and they looked completely different, one was lovely and thick and the other was thin. I also noticed thick cobwebs around the fixtures and fittings and it looks like it's not been cleaned in a while. The staff were very polite and attentive but not enough of them. We had to wait for someone to become available to ask for our bill. All in all I think it's a lovely pub to go for maybe a light bite or a drink but I just wouldn't go again for a meal as it was just disappointing.

Some soap in the men's toilets would have been nice!

Fantastic quiet place with a good vibe and atmosphere. Quiet enough for a private evening but also joyful enough to not feel abandoned. Great service and fantastic staff. Good value for money.

Great pub, nice food, dog friendly

The pub is lovely. Food is lovely I haven't had any complaints on any of my visits there. My only vice with them is once you've been served you are left for long periods after eating food for example.

Not a lot of Menu Choice but what their was food was good

Great food, great atmosphere and the service was spot on. Child friendly place have highchairs and a decent kids menu. Can't fault anything.

Food pretty mediocre. Went for the Korean Chicken. 2 half pieces of pretty dry chicken breast with sauce slapped on top, rice like it was out of an uncle Ben's packet. Mrs food was off the Christmas menu on deal for two courses and tried to overcharge us, wonder how many times you get away with that? I'm not sure how people find this acceptable, if you want mediocre food just go to Wetherspoon and pay half as much, at least you don't walk out disappointed.

Went for a drink. Most staff were great one male was a bit sure of himself and needed to be reminded swearing when talking with other staff is not cool when clients are in earshot. Not a lot of space just to sit seemed like mainly a food pub but veggie/vegan options were very poor

Needs more attention to client needs. Ask before including sauces to salads or other dishes, better still add in pot, on side of dish. Getting sidetracked when serving is not good customer service, e.g special diet requirement menus should be attended to at same time as other members of party. Check bill is split or not. Show at til which discounts are welcome, I.e. AA members, NHS members and check your staff honour the customers discount by confirming. If mistakes are made, apologise, then rectify them, if you wish customers to return, it’s only courtesy. Food we had was great, the service was confusing.

We waited a very long time for anyone to take our order even for drinks, food was OK but over cooked needed a hammer to break pastry on pie!! We were never asked if we wanted more drinks and when we did ask took 15 mins for 2 cokes to arrive. We asked for dessert menu but nobody came to take our order so after 20 mins we decided to go to bar and ask for bill, that was brought immediately!!! There was 7 of us who would have had dessert so money lost there, we all said we would not be rushing back !

The Fox and Hounds is a really nice looking pub inside and out. It wasn't very busy when we went but still struggled to get a parking space. The service was good although there was nowhere near enough staff so they were run off their feet which made you feel uneasy. This also probably didn't help the atmosphere which was lacking. The menu was good with choices to suit most tastes. The food though didn't come up to the expectations of what the menu described. My wife's steak was over cooked and as there wasn't much fat and no juices over the top lacked any real taste and it was fairly tough. The salad was ribbons of cucumber (1 strip) and green leaves (blink and you would miss it) I had the signature burger which sounded fantastic and should have been full of flavour but it just didn't. Portion sizes were also small for what you are paying. There are a lot of good reviews so possibly the kitchen was having a bad night and we timed it wrong but overall we were disappointed.

Roast dinner was awful. They forgot my beef on the trio of meats and then when arrived was a scrappy piece of fat. The rest of the meat tasted like something that had just been heated In a micro. The potatoes tasted synthetic. The food took nearly an hour to arrive. We were truly disappointed.

Veg (carrots and broccoli and peas) almost disgusting, mash acceptable, Chicken and Ham Hock Pie Good. Service sullen.

Sunday roast was abysmal 2 slithers of carrot and 1 tiny piece of brocoli. Roast potatoes were more like boiled potatoes and the beef was more grissle than meat. As a waiter I'd have been embarrassed to put that in front of a customer. Really has gone downhill # need a new chef!

Met with friends after work. We haven't been here for a very long time & what a lovely surprise. It was bright & airy with friendly staff. We just had soft drinks & sat chatting. We will definitely go again.

We had guests over from Sweden, and had booked for a meal on Sunday. Come the day and the pub had a problem with drains that would affect their opening. I think they must have phoned us back 3 - 4 times to keep us updated. In the end the problem was sorted and our booking was a bit delayed. Food, service and staff were great, they really tried very hard, and should be congratulated for their efforts. Well done all!

We popped in on a whim for a lunch for our anniversary. We were looked after by James and Jamie. Attentive service, and good recommendations from the specials menu. Soy and chilli pork belly was outstanding. Whilst Mrs L had the seafood platter. Both meals exceptional. Thanks for today team, we are really grateful.
