Fox + Herb - Deli & Gourmet Food Emporium in Braintree

Called in to this place today for lunch as it looked nice.Very very disappointed!!! We ordered 1x sandwiche of tuna/mayo and 2x Avocado/cheese /tomatoes. What turned up was awful !! No offer of proper bread but bread rolls which were obviously frozen and not defrosted properly. Salad on the plate was a spoonful of coleslaw which looked like cat 🤢 Coffee was ok just,and all for bargain price of£30.50 This was a memorable experience which we will never be experiencing again.Total rubbish!!

Out at Lunchtime and we love the lure of a deli. Don’t be fooled- this is not a deli. Ordered what was described on the menu as a sourdough panini. Turns up a very skinny baguette. I can forgive that but the meatball marinara inside was awful. Tinned sauce. Accompanied by a side of grey watery cheap stuff that they described as coleslaw but was unidentifiable. As we watched them open a tin of chilli con carne, reheat it in the microwave and put it on a jacket potato we knew we’d chosen the wrong place! I might have forgiven most of the truly awful food if the coffee had been reasonable. But it was properly terrible. An americano and a flat white served in exactly the same cup size. Dusty cheap coffee beans and no coffee know how resulted in murky grey stuff that would be fine if you hate your taste buds. Don’t do it.

Awful food....how can you make a basic burger taste so bad? Thin burger and weird tasting relish in it, had to scrap it off. Service not great either, won't be going back.

Popped in for a reviving cuppa (basically a tea bag in a cup of hot water) and more than an hour before closing time they started cleaning up around me. I can listen to the sound of vacuuming at home and make myself a cup of tea, free of charge, so it’s put me off returning !! Why say you close at six and then make customers feel uncomfortable? I even asked before ordering what time they shut. Really poor customer service!!

We went today for coffee and cake at Fox + Herb in Halstead. Amazing café with an extensive range of options for drinks, breakfast, lunch or snacks for sit down or on the move! I opted for giant size cappuccino and accompanied with sausage bap and carrot cake for that little kick, for all that I paid only £13, real value for money. Amazing quality and reasonably priced, and highly recommended! The place is very clean and attractive interior design, staff were friendly and helpful. They have self ordering screens, QR code to order on table and also traditional ordering at the bar. I am not fan of self ordering so went to the bar and was greeted with smile and friendly voice "hello! how are you today". I will definitely visit here again.

I like to support local independent businesses and I must share what a great place to visit in Halstead with your family. We ordered Americana, Flat White, Latte and Boba Drink. The coffee was perfect blend and hot as I like, the illy beans are the best! The Boba drink was tropical fruits which is exactly what my son wanted. For food order, I went with full English breakfast and my wife went for cheese toastie and avocado toast with bacon strips and my son went for Kids menu Peperoni Pizza - all came separately, and we loved all. The English breakfast was full platter under £10 was amazing value for money and loved their sausages and crispy bacon although I am not fan of tomatoes. My wife loved her meatball panini and my son thoroughly enjoyed his pizza he is not fan of crispy edges which we don't mind stripping out. The service was good, staff were helpful and humble. They have free to use library, free to use Pacman Machine, and free to use kids play area. The restaurant is clean and toilets are super clean and the staff are clean presentable too. I support local businesses and this place is definitely to shout about and bring your friends and relatives!

I went with my family to Fox + Herb for a meal, drinks and cakes. This place is amazing - great food, good environment, very clean and friendly staff. We were amazed with the range of food and drinks available on their menu and they serve them all day - including breakfast served all day!! I ordered full English for myself and cheese burger chips for my wife and cold sandwich for my dad. The food was fresh and absolutely amazing flavoursome - delish! We tried their milkshake, frappe, freshly squeezed juice and coffee. I fell in love with their red velvet cake (huge slice yum), 100% recommended. This place is big inside with a free to use library, kids play area, packman machine, and disable toilets. They keep the place so clean and staff members are friendly. I ordered at the till but have seen some people ordering on a self serve kiosk - not a big fan of self serve I suppose we all need technology but not for me. We enjoyed our family time and will definitely be coming back as our new favourite place in Halstead - a great place to recommend!

This is great cafe, to be honest I didn't eat the food but the coffee and cakes were lovely. I read a previous comment that said they wasn't sure about the decoration and feel like bits have been added on? I think it was fun and it's aimed at families therefore it doesn't need to be perfect! Love the pac man machine. I think there should be more fun cafes like this and the toilets were cleaner than Costa or Gregg, halstead this is a great fun family cafe use it or lose it. And to the cafe owners if the food isn't up to standard then its a shame because I think your idea is great for families!!

Although the decor is inviting and appealing; sadly this is not the case for the food. Absolutely inedible and has caused all parties who attended to suffer from stomach upsets. Will be filing a report to HSE and the local food hygiene authorities.

I am really confused as to what this place is supposed to be! I saw little evidence of it being the “gourmet food” deli as the outside signs would have you believe. The decor is modern but I find the addition of the QR code and ordering screens a little “fast-food” like, plus the functionality on them was quite slow and confusing to use, for a lot of the elderly customers (and there were plenty of those) they do still offer service at the counter too. There is a children’s play area at the back, then a “library” type area off to one side, I feel like this place was originally intended to be a nice coffee shop with cakes and a deli counter but things have been added in over time that don’t fit in or make sense. There’s a small area of random things for sale such as candles and bubble bath, brands available from supermarkets. I didn’t understand why this was here. But the worst thing here was the food. For what we were served I was not happy that I had paid almost £20. Some chicken goujons that I nearly broke a tooth on, they were rock hard and clearly had been precooked / reheated. Some frozen fries which had no salt and pepper on at all, with a small sachet of ketchup on the side. Along with a breakfast muffin, that I could only describe as equivalent to a rustlers microwave burger. The “berry ice tea” was essentially some syrup in water with ice, it just tasted of fruit squash. A really disappointing experience.

A nice little brunch spot , not too fancy , good prices and very attentive service . Had a breakfast muffin and a latte , no complaints.

I really like F&H. The coffee is great and the atmosphere but the food is over-done. Microwave oven combi they use to heat the food turns it into overly crisp teeth killers. Totally ruined a chicken and cheese sourdough baguette. I struggled through it but I shall have to limit visits to just coffee in future. Sort it out please, it’s a good place potentially x

It's the most smart looking café on Halstead high street. We visited Fox + Herb first time today after paying our respect on the remembrance day. The place was buzzing and full of people. We were a group of 7 people and all of us ordered full English breakfast, coffee and cakes. Amazing service, staff were helpful and food was amazing. The coffee and cake was amazing too. We noticed someone being abusive to the young staff but we avoided to interfere as the guy was a disable person and he was insistent to pay using "bus discount card" oh lord - felt sorry for the waiter attending such customer. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. By far the cleanest customer toilet in the town. The food was great, very warm and tasty, and the coffee was good flavour and cakes were the best quality. We will definitely visit again and highly recommend.

Visited there today looked really nice from the outside once inside is where it all goes wrong waited 25 minutes for our drinks ordered five large breakfast's at £10 each. The food was only just warm the omelette type egg were like the supermarket microwave ones the bacon was thin and undercooked extortionately over priced rubbish I shall not be returning I would advise anyone to avoid

We’ve just had breakfast here, ahead of spending a few hours looking at antiques in Halstead. Breakfast was very nice - two lots of avocado on toast and a bacon sandwich. Setting is also nice - very relaxing inside and nice to be somewhere that is not a chain. Worth a visit
