After our long walk at Ennerdale water, we stopped in here for lunch and we certainly had no regrets! All of us hungry after a long walk, this is the place to stop for a generous portion of hearty food! Dogs also welcome inside and looks to have a lovely beer garden which would be nice on a sunny day.

We visited the area while staying at Ennerdale Scout Centre and from visiting the Egremont Crab Fair. We popped in at the start of our trip to have a pint in the garden and subsequently booked Sunday lunch. The range of ales is superb - I highly recommend the local Loweswater Gold. Very moreish. For our Sunday lunch, we all had Sunday Roasts (a mix of lamb and beef) and one vegan stir fry. The portions were incredible and the food was incredibly tasty. No room left for a pudding, sadly! The atmosphere is lovely - a great local inn. Highly recommend.

I know a lot of Coast to Coast walkers use this so I have to tell you I just had the worst fish & chips of my life here. Followed by an even worse apple crumble. The batter on the fish was grey and greasy (and the fish was only just cooked within it). The chips were truly awful. There was a blob of mushy peas as an afterthought. The apple crumble was dreadful - I actually have to complain as it must be hard work running a pub and hotel but I have never tasted such glutinous unappealing crumble - it was a blob of goo. Come on, guys, it's not as if it was even especially cheap. These are popular dishes: try out some recipes until you get it right. Reset and go again.

The service was excellent, even with 12 of us. We pre-ordered which was easy and the food came out in good time. The landlady did an excellent job with the drinks. Warning if you have the pies as a main, don't have a starter else you will not finish the main. Food was very tasty, hot and well presented.

Such a fabulous find! Lovely little camping spot. The chips were lush! The wine is good! And Michael particularly went above and beyond! We were so grateful! Everything we asked was greeted with “give me a minute” and then he fulfilled our requests. We were pathetic damsels in distress and he was literally a hero. Stopped an old coot from crying. ☺️

Visited here twice after a 3 day stay in the area, staff are great, food portions are great, drinks selection are great, not a single complaint from us, drinks are fairly priced as is food and the beer garden is absolutely spot on, and to think we could potentially lose places like this due to big business greed, places like this need protecting, keep up the good work 🤝⭐️

So pleased we found this pub. We are staying 10 minutes away in Lamplugh and read some amazing reviews for food and we were not disappointed. The portion sizes were HUGE we ordered beer battered fish and chips, the fish was cooked to perfection and chips were home cooked. We witnessed a burger leave the kitchen and it was so big! I had scampi which was delicious. We sat by the fire and enjoyed the cosy feeling around us. I would most definitely recommend this place.

Fantastic evening meal, the steak and guiness pie was so tasty and full of meat, with lovely fresh veggies and a really good thick gravy. Desserts of coffee caramel cheesecake, home made, and local ice cream finished off the meal perfectly. Local ennerdale beer and lakes gin went well with the meal. Staff all really helpful and friendly and the pub has a lovely cosy atmosphere infront of the log burner. Large portions but smaller portions are available of most dishes. All freshly made which is perfect.

My husband and I had an evening meal here, the last Saturday in August. We couldn't have found any faults if we'd looked for some. We dined early (6pm) and even then the place was quite full. Nice friendly staff and good food, plenty of it too. Just got back from this little gem at Ennerdale for a Mothers Day meal and have to say very pleasently surprised and how nice and how good the quality of food they are serving there. All meals were beautiful, quick service, all piping hot and can tell everything is homemade. All the staff are very welcoming and as ive said food was served quick. Highly recommend to anyone to give this place a try as we will 1000% be back again. £81.20 for 3 x 3 courses plus drinks which i thought was very reasonable for the quality of the food. Starters of Halloumi Fries & garlic mushrooms, Mains of Battered Cod, Scampi & Lamb Henry, Deserts of Ice Cream, Triple Choc Cheesecake and Apple Crumble.

I spent five days walking in Ennerdale in early October, based at the Fox and Hounds in Ennerdale Bridge. I phoned beforehand to check the Covid 19 precautions and was reassured by friendly landlady. The Fox & Hounds is nicely located in a pretty corner of the village, just opposite the church. My room was rather gloomily decorated but the bathroom was brilliant - spotlessly clean with lots of hot water to soak in the bath on returning from a walk. As I don't eat meat I was pleased to see a lot of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu but unfortunately I can't recommend the three I tried - greasy mushroom stroganoff, bland cheese pie and unbelievably leathery vegeburger which I could hardly chew! Fish and chips were fine though. The highlight for me was breakfast - I had wonderful freshly-made fruit salad and very generous portions of mushroom, tomato and beans. The Gather, a community-owned cafe just next door serves good soup for lunch and has a small shop for essentials. Walking in Ennerdale is something else - wonderful woodland and mighty fells - with a remote feel more like the Highlands than the Lake District.

Covid restrictions were in place, so I'm unable to comment on the normal atmosphere in the pub, but the staff were helpful and we felt welcome. The local ale was perfectly served, always a good start. And the food was top notch pub grub, including scampi, ham salad and in my case a spectacularly good pie, prepared and cooked in house. We stayed here on our first night of the C2C. The plan was to camp in the garden (which was so nice and by a little stream). But unfortunately it was raining and we were soaked so we asked for a room. The staff were so kind and accommodating and showed us to our room which was amazing and had a big radiator in the bedroom and bathroom so we can dry all our clothes. The bed was so comfy, we had coffee and biscuits in our room and a really nice, hot shower and bath. The view from the window was beautiful. The man behind the bar gave us bin liners so that we could keep our things dry in our bags during the rest of our walk (it worked so thank you so much!!!!) He also gave another woman (who was also doing the C2C) a knee strap and drove her bag for her the next day. He was so kind! The food was AMAZING!! The best full English I've ever had!! There was cereal, fruit salad, yoghurt, juice and of course a cooked breakfast. The fried bread was DELICIOUS and so was everything else! It set us up for the day. We also had dinner here the previous night which was delicious. I had the burger and my boyfriend had the mushroom stroganoff- both were so good!

Ate here on a Sunday evening and there was plenty of tables free although it was quite busy. The steak and ale pie was huge with plenty of filling. It came with a large portion of hand cut chips and veg. It was lovely. The burger stack was huge, filled with a very thick burger, caramelised onions, 3 huge homemade onion rings, bacon and cheese. It was delicious. Also served with chips and salad. A huge portion! They were let down a bit by the desserts. The Apple crumble was lovely but the cheesecake arrived without the coulis sauce. When I asked where it was, was told they’d run out. Should have been told this on ordering as we would have chosen something else. Also, the cheesecake was very gelatinous so not a nice consistency at all. Overall, a lovely meal and a nice pub.

Our group of 8 visited on a Sunday, booking a table at 6pm.On arrival our table was pointed out to us, so we all sat down. We went to the bar and bought drinks and asked about ordering - we were told that someone would come over.10 minutes later no one had come over, there seemed to be only one person working the bar, and there was a que of people ordering food.We decided to just go up to the bar to order the food (four of us went up to order 2 meals each). I went up and attempted to order 2 drinks and 2 Sunday lunches. I was told that if we didn't all order together we wouldn't be served together. I replied 'that's fine we aren't bothered about being served at the same time'.The young lady ignored this and just charged me for the drinks (not taking the food order)!Going back to the table we all decided what we wanted (5 beefs and 3 lambs) and one of our group rejoined the que to order. By now it was around 6:30pm.When they got to being served all the Sunday Lunches were sold out!The whole reason for our visit (and booking the table a couple of weeks in advance) was to have a Sunday Roast (our group were on the coast to coast walk)! This was the most farcical service I've experienced in my life!We reluctantly ordered food from the normal menu. To be fair the food was good and plentiful. It didn't quell our disappointment though!

Stayed here while doing the Coast to Coast walk early in August. A really pretty pub and such a lovely location on the C2C route, with its own stream babbling just outside our bedroom window - heavenly! Best bath we had on the C2C walk because it was so big and the water so hot - a wonderful soak to ease those aching muscles. Then a drink from the bar, supped outside in the gardens by the stream, before ordering our evening meal - and yes, the portions are very adequate and the food so tasty! Twin beds very comfortable and breakfast so filling we didn't feel the need for our lunch until 3 pm! The pub is under new management and the staff eager to please. Very reasonably priced and would stay there again.

The Fox and Hounds is a proper Lake District pub - full of walkers and locals enjoying a good range of local beers (try Ennerdale Dark) and huge portions of home-cooked food. The steak and ale pie was superb; my son's cod was so large it hung over the ends of the plate while our neighbour's gammon had to have the chips brought over separately as there was no room for them on the plate! After a day on the fells though, nothing could be better. Veggies/vegans are also well catered for with 3 or 4 choices on the menu - not something you always find in a Cumbrian pub. And if, somehow, you have room for desert then the bread and butter pudding is to die for. Very, very highly recommended.

We ate here today Sunday lunchtime. I do not eat meat but saw the table next to us enjoy a large roast dinner which looked good. I then asked if I could have the vegetables and as there was no vegetarian gravy ( very cheap from any supermarket) I asked for a jug of vegetable soup. My meal arrived with 2 dry roast potatoes grey inside, a yorkshire pudding, a spoonful of mash, a small portion of carrots, uncooked swede, and the tiniest sprig of brocolli . I am a vegetarian so expected decent helpings of vegetables. In no way did my meal compare with the adjacent table. I was not asked how my meal was until after my husband had paid. I said it was very disappointing and explained why, to which the waitress said she was very sorry and walked away!! I was charged the same as for a full roast dinner for this child size portion of mediocre food and I can only think they had ran out of food. If anyone at the Fox and Hounds reads this I would be glad to discuss it with them. If they have a conscience they would offer a refund. The clue is in the word vegetarian, we like vegetables!!

WE camped here for one night on our recent Coast to Coast walk. The pot of tea we had when we arrived after nearly 16 wet miles from St Bees was heaven - THE best pot of tea we had on the whole walk, honestly!nothing was too much trouble for the landlord, and the food was delivered to our table what felt like just minutes from ordering. It was also proper delish! Breakfast was also really really good, with lashing of tea and toast. We would thoroughly recommend you stay here if you're doing the Coast to Coast!

Ate here twice on a week long break. First was on a Friday night and although busy we were accommodated and had a delicious tea of pretty standard pub food.Stopped for a soup and sandwich unchanged day and it was like a totally different place (probably a different chef). The soup was stone cold and my cheese and onion sandwich was just cheese. All that said, the real ale was perfect and very well kept. Bar staff very friendly and chatty, especially the young lad who we educated on what a lager and lime is.

Popped into this lovely pub while doing the coast to coast and staying in the village. It had a lovely friendly atmosphere, a great selection of local real ales and good value food. Definately worth a visit if you are in the area.

Lovely location; super food, but it is the customer service I wanted to highlight. We were there with my very elderly father and the staff could not have been more accommodating, even bringing the drinks out into the garden, while we settled Dad. Thanks folks. Made our lunch all the more relaxing. In fact, although we only live down the road, we're thinking about coming to stay for a short break!

We've been the the pub numerous time when travelling back from the lake. It's really good for a quick pint and the location is great, near the old church with the river running beside it. The staff aren't really with it most of the time however. We've been there and asked for the lunch menu to be told 'I don't know if she wants to cook any more until this evening', before he went to check (she didn't want to) and have also been told at couple of minutes before serving time ends 'you'll have to wait until later' (meaning hours later). There's often no one visible behind the bar and you can stand there for some time before service appears. It's a lovely pub with lots of history and beams and atmosphere but the staff just don't seem very bothered about pleasing customers or customer service. We've stopped going now, which is a shame as we were there weekly.

We called into the Fox and Hounds for two pints and a meal. The beer was excellent and the food delicious. Recommend booking a table if you want to eat.

Good food, great selection of ale, decent coffee and very friendly staff/atmosphere. Dogs also welcome. Board games and a pool table and apparently they have craft mornings on a Friday and beginner bee keeping classes!

Limited range, but good value pub food. Steak night was tasty and very good value - £20 a couple. Don't always serve food every day out of season - so check in advance to be sure. Good location in Ennerdale Bridge - on the coast to coast route. Friendly staff.

Very friendly and great pub food. My brother dropped his phone and wallet outside and the community took great effort to find him and hand it back - we were touched by this

Lovely pub to go for a drink. Only pub close to where we were staying. No food served here. Dog friendly. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Close to request stop railway station. Open 2pm til pub empty. Makes sence. Friendly people.

Due to lockdown restrictions, Truly Scrumptious has a delivery service, so this was ordered by phone, rather than a visit to the shop. Their cream tea selections are amazing! My sister ordered this for mother's day - and since we haven't seen her since October 2020, she treated me, too! Delivery was within a 2-hour time slot, and arrived in good time. Definitely recommended.

We came here for Sunday Lunch. It is advisable to book as I don't think they accept walk-ins. The roast dinner (I had chicken) was absolutely amazing, really good. Prices are very reasonable. Nice cosy village pub in the middle of nowhere - make sure you search it out.

I would highly recommend Moresby Hall. The owners were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I am a wheelchair user so was concerned about the actual accessibility of this grade 1 listed building. However they exceeded our expectations, having a designated, very well thought out, accessible apartment on the ground floor with every possible aid needed. Not only that but it was beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay. Jane and David the owners were very welcoming, approachable and friendly, and they even made a amendment to the front door as my chair caught on a part of it. Breakfast was really nice, having a great selection to choose from and hot food made to order. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had and it felt much better than the buffet style English breakfast. The weekend went by very fast and I’d have loved to stay longer. Would highly recommend this beautiful hall as you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely friendly independent cafe based in the church at Frizington. When we went we had booked because it gets packed out by local residents. My friend is local but I was visiting . We ordered tea for two and a lovely big pot with China cups and saucers arrived. More hot water to top up the pot no problem ! My friend had a delicious ( massive) omelette , salad and chips. I had the steak pie ( gorgeous gravy) , vegetables and again the wonderful home made chips ( best ever) . Crumbles or ginger cake with custard for dessert. I just loved the lively atmosphere . So great to see a place thriving in the north west lakes. A real hidden gem.
