Not been to Fortune Star for some time being pensioners we have to be careful of our budget, so tonight was a special birthday treat for my wife the food was excellent as well as the service I’ve been using the Fortune Star’s food and service for more than 35 years and it’s never disappointed me for takeout or dine in many thanks Julie.

Very friendly and welcoming, the lady who served us was absolutely lovely and let us order considering they closed at 22:00 (we ordered for collection at 22:30). Food is tasty would recommend eating in the restaurant to enjoy the atmosphere.

What can I say! Been coming to Fortune Star for over 15 years now.. Julia and Philip are Amazing great hosts and beautiful food everytime. We travel 6 hours to Lancaster 3/4 times a year and always stop for our Chinese meal. Nothing is too much for Julia the perfect host and always smiling. My kids love going cannot Recommend Highly enough you won’t be disappointed. 👍

A couple of us had the beef and we didn't like to say anything that would spoil the night but the beef was tainted, on the turn. A nice little restaurant but on this occasion the food let it down

One of the better Chinese restaurants in the UK. Lovely staff, great food, fair prices. No good beer, but it's an excellent choice to eat and it doesn't break the Bank.

Julia was as friendly and welcoming as when we first visited twenty-something years ago. The food was delicious. If there's anything you don't like (one of our party didn't like sweet peppers), it's not a problem, it's all made fresh and they can make it without. We over ordered and had to take the rest home - also, not a problem 😊

I absolutely love this place, the staff are awesome and the owner is so lovely. My favourite is the salt and pepper crispy beef. I can't get enough of it. I wouldn't get chips from there as I prefer thinner cut. But there's a few dishes I keep going back to.

Absolutely loved it here tonight, the lovely lady who was running the place, kept my water topped up, took the time to talk to my friend and I, food was amazing and the lady even took the time to work out the shared totals at the end of the evening before being asked. An absolute pleasure.

As always lovely food and lovely people 10 of us went for a meal we were well looked after and everyone enjoyed there food we have been a few times and it’s always good must be the best Chinese restaurant in lancaster well done guys and thanks

Julie and the team always give the most fantastic service, 28 years! the Fortune Star is an institution in its own right and an icon of Lancaster and Chinese food. We will miss you all so much I have been coming here since I was a little girl.

Chinese Restaurant on the one way system by Dalton Square. We recently ate there and the service and atmosphere were good, food was plentiful but bland, sadly. Probably a good place to take kids to introduce them to chinese food.

Tasty Chinese food and really good and super-friendly service. Delicious salt & pepper spare ribs, steaming hot won ton soup and prawns with chilli and black bean sauce. Just what was needed on a cold, damp night. Very generous portions and excellent value for money. Will definitely return next time I’m in Lancaster.

Seemed a tad expensive compared to Our local Chinese’s but once served it was clear the portion size and amount of meat was very good. It’s been here a very long time and I think decor remains unchanged. The food is good if not great but the lady who served us was very friendly and really made us feel welcome. She made it more pleasant with her attentive service and lovely smile 😊

I had the worst Chinese food ever here. I have never tasted anything like this , and hope I never do again. (Singapore noodles) -No flavour whatsoever apart from stale oil.Tasted as if there was no garlic, ginger and especially chilli. Had to drench in soy sauce to be able to eat it.The noodles were under cooked and the lumps of meat cold. It looked as though it had been thrown together with no cooking process. Can't understand either why the takeaway is half the price.

I don't really like Chinese food, it's not my thing at all....but went along with a large group. Proper enjoyed it , had ribs and some duck pancake things. Lovely staff , good service. I'd definitely give it another go 👍👍

From our last visit something has gone terribly wrong. Seems as though they have lost interest in the place. The food was diabolical and the ambience nil. Quite frankly the decor and furniture are in dire need of refurb. It always was a no frills restaurant but the food was superb so you could overlook the rest. However, our visit in August was the worst ever. Julia was not herself, food awful, curry sauce terrible, meat in curry seemed to be pre -cooked and tough. Different chef maybe. Totally different to our last visit in May and many previous. Disappointed to the core. Have learned it is on market so this may explain they have given up.

Wonderful place loved the food and staff so friendly. Great to share friendship and food. Long live UK - Sino friendship and never mind our stupid governments.

Reading others reviews I must have gone on a day off for the chef/cooking the food was bland and tasteless the restaurant is outdated using plastic baskets and paper numbers so to compensate the staff are very polite and friendly,I will never have a meal from here again.

Lovely restaurant, and great service. We had a lovely meal, very fresh and tasty. The staff are great and have a lot of time for each table. It is quite small so you might need to book. They sat us for a late tea, and we'd struggled to get in other places but this was so nice we'll go straight here next time!

Went here with a big party of 12 with 2 children. We all had the buffet deal and we were not disappointed. The amount of food was more than enough and between us all we couldn't finish it! At the end the lovely lady who owns the place gave the little one's a little goodie bag with drinks and snacks which made the meal their favourite thing they have been to! The staff were super polite and we had a great time.

Lovely staff who looked after us very well. Generous portions of well cooked food. We were pleasantly surprised at the lack of soy sauce and msg. What a delight to see fried rice arrive at the table almost white, not the usual saturated soy sauce brown colour. The drinks were reasonablly priced which makes a really nice change because some restaurants think their customers came in on the last boat! We're looking forward to going back and trying some different dishes.

Front of house staff are lovely, but the food is absolutely terrible,food was lukewarm upon collection ,Chicken tastes of nothing but rubber, Beef was horrendous, the rice was bland and crispy seaweed overpowering. Do not recommend.

Went last night lovely staff but sorry food not up to scratch.Mixed starter terrible just a pile of not very good ribs and prawn toast.Spring rolls with no filling in.Won.t be going back.

This was only our second visit whilst passing through Lancaster and it was exactly as we enjoyed previously. We arrived for an early doors meal and chose one of the set meals for 2. The food was plentiful and delicious particularly the spare ribs and crispy chicken dish we had. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, so we'll be back again

My wife and I had another great meal here again. The spare ribs are the best in town, we always share as it’s a good portion and every rib is packed with meat, usually a starter for us both to share. We had two main dishes, crispy chicken Cantonese style and sweet n sour chicken with a portion of egg fried rice. All the food was piping hot and just great, we also ordered the litre bottle of house red £15 which for a restaurant is very reasonable, it goes well with the dishes and is very drinkable. Very friendly welcome every time and lovely staff, nothing too much bother and you don’t feel rushed in any way always asking if we would like a bit of time between courses. Great friendly restaurant with great food, see you again next week. Total bill with a litre of wine £45 and we took some home with us.

Went here last Sunday, first time since the pandemic and it was as good as ever. Great food and loads of it but the best part is the staff, they are delightful and friendly especially the older lady front of house. She is utterly charming and makes the visit!

Had a table booked for my brothers 30th, the starters were amazing especially the bbq ribs. The portion sizes were huge and the meat fell off the bone, there was 8 of us so we all got a dish and shared, everything was so tasty and really good portion sizes. The duck in plum sauce was to die for. Best ive tasted, staff were fantastic and friendly, they even brought out a small gift for my brother with a candle to wish him happy birthday, a very enjoyable evening with outstanding food, would highly recommend and most certainty will be returning.

I rang up with my order and the food was ready for pick up in 20 minutes. The lady that took my order was lovely. When the food arrived it was hot and absolutely delicious. The portions are generous and the food is fresh and tasty. The crispy beef in Cantonese sauce was excellent. I use this restaurant a lot as the food is consistently good. I highly recommend

We had a selection of tasty meals tonight, spare ribs , special chow mien my favourite, crispy chicken, and the wife’s favourite Beef in Cantonese sauce, egg fried rice and Prawn crackers, to say the least the food tasted amazing and large portions.Please support this restaurant during Covid lockdown and in the future it would be sad if they disappeared from our high street , always a smile and great service when you attend this restaurant.

Every time I have been I have been made to feel very welcome and the staff are always friendly and professional. The food is also amazing and there’s lots to choose from. Me and my partner went tonight for his birthday and they went the extra mile to give him a drink and a piece of cake to take home with him when we went up to pay the bill and said happy birthday. Really put a smile on our faces. Defiantly recommend going here.

Amazing looking forward to going back on 22nd February

Well we've been coming here for years whether for sit-in or take-away and never had anything but great, fresh cooked and tasty food. Slightly more spicy would suit me but obviously isn't for everyone. Seemed strangely quiet this last Sunday night but that just meant we got great service and food straight off the stove. Give it a try, you can see my daughter enjoyed it (and the sake and dad paying..)😀

A group of my friends and I had a great meal here yesterday evening. The food was delicious and in very generous portion sizes. Drinks were very reasonably priced too. We all enjoyed it, and we will definitely go again!

I love this place. Everytime I visit the west coast I head to the Fortune Star, the food is fantastic and the service is second to non.

This I restaurant I have in the past held in high regard for friendly service and value...but don't advertise and impose significant surcharges for sizzling ' fillet 'steak if you're not prepared to serve it!!.... Sadly I don't think we have one central Lancaster chinese restaurant who knows what fillet steak is ...... Inclined to get out my wok and sizzle my own!!..... An unpleasant experience involving tough meat of slimy texture, lacking in taste

I went here with finace and a friend last night and it was a nice enough experience. The staff were very nice and friendly. It's nice that they take your order in the sitting area and then take you to your table. The food was not unpleasant but was nothing to rave about either. The sweet and sour sauce that came with the starters was thick and looked very strange. The portions are a good size and so you are pretty much guaranteed to take some home. I had the seafood fried rice which was pleasant and the scallops were cooked very well. I think if I came back I would have the ribs as they looked much better than the king prawn meat rolls as they were just ok. The drink prices are reasonable at £4 for a glass of wine.

My partner booked a table for my birthday. It was a cold night outside and barely any warmer in the restaurant making it an uncomfortable and brief visit.

Lovely little Chinese restaurant. Staff were just lovely. Fantastic food and fast service. We had the set meal for 2 and couldn't complain about it. There was so much, we even boxed some up to take home.

Phoned for a take away the usual polite conversation about my order, when I went to collect my food the restaurant was packed but my take away was up to the highest of standards considering how busy it was, well done Chef, will return.
