Fortune Inn in Wealden

Ordered from here and it cost £35 for plain rice, chicken fried rice, sweet and sour vegetables, crispy chilli chicken, chips, salt and chilli chips and spring rolls. First of all, the spring rolls didn’t arrive and the chicken dish was wrong. we couldn’t get through to the restaurant. The sweet and sour vegetables were absolutely disgusting, didn’t taste of sweet and sour and had a horrible smell. The rice was alright (how hard is it?) and the chips were very plain. I am a vegan and ordered the sweet and sour vegetables as there is the standard green leaf next the dish on the menu but I found a small bit of chicken in the sauce. It did only take about 15 minutes to arrive but the food was so disgusting, we couldn’t eat most of it. For £35, we each ate rice and chips as the main dishes were so god awful and inedible. Would not recommend at all, don’t do it to yourself.

OK Food, terrible service. Ordered a 6pm collection at 5.20pm, arrived 5.55pm to collect, the food was not ready until 6.25. Staff member was rude and unhelpful when asking about this and offered no apology or compensation.

Amazing food! Literally the best Beef Black Bean I’ve had!

3 stars is generous.. not the best food.. the beef chow mein, was literally dry noodles and chewy bits of beef, no flavour at all.. the rest was OK and arrived hot.. very cheap tasting Chinese food.. much better restaurants to go to in the area and will definitely be going elsewhere in future.

Placed quite a large order. One of our dishes was sweet & sour vegetables in batter with a pot of sauce. The vegetables were not in batter & were in a container with a thin, watery, slightly orange sauce which was tasteless. Very disappointing, couldnt eat it.

I accidently ordered from here tonight, and can you believe, it was worse than when I left the below review years ago. Awful food. I ordered chilly shredded beef and pork fried rice. The beef was drowned in what i think was just Tomato sauce and had just been reheated. The rice was just as bad. Dry and lacking flavour. Followed by a lovely stomach ach. I won't be ordering from here again.

Takeaway collected. Never previously had any issues. Collected and through eating discover a STAPLE in prawn dish. Then refused to refund the whole order, only the prawns. Awful service and clearly poor hygiene practices, AVOID!

Just received z6,food only warm,all items crammed into 1 container, hardly any sauce, chicken very tough.Even pancake roll. was inedible.Its now in bin.Previous orders ok.Phone and advised,little interest in my complaint.Lucky Star next time, Chris

Honestly the worst Chinese food I’ve had to date. Myself and a group of my friends ordered a variety of dishes from the menu, such as the pancake rolls, chicken balls, chicken fried rice & the wonton soup, and the only edible food was the spring rolls. I tried the chips and gravy and it was very bad (soggy chips covered in a sweet, sticky garlic sauce). Please keep in-mind that I am Canadian, so my overall expectations of this particular cuisine may be different, but on a fundamental level our food lacked in any kind of flavour. It wasn’t super cheap either, so I’d recommend looking elsewhere the next time you’re craving Chinese.

Being a creature of habit I always seem to order that same thing from a Chinese and know what to expect. That's where this place really supprised me as I've never had a meal that was so bland and tasteless and wouldn't be surprised if I was told the chicken had red eyes. The whole meal was very white, plain and lacking in flavour so I will not be ordering from here again. On a more positive note the staff were friendly and helpful on the phone and the delivery was prompt and polite.

Food is never excellent but always passable so never mind ordering, but on several occasions despite ordering close to their opening time. The time given for delivery has never been held to, often running over half an hour over this and upon calling just being told my order is out for delivery yet still waiting quite a while to get it.

Really enjoy our takeaways from fortune Inn- no issues with the food at all :)

New review 2023: We ordered chicken chow mein, a plain chow mein, sweet and sour pork balls, salt pepper chicken, sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style and a plain foo yung. The Singapore noodles were really nice, loads of fresh spicy chillis and little prawns in it. The pork balls were big and had loads of pork in them. No gristle or fat at all. Big tub of sauce with them. Everything tasted nice and was fresh. Had all been cooked in clean oil etc. Good quality ingredients used. No complaints with any of our food. My only comment would be that the food was missing that garlic/ginger/soy/salt kick that makes Chinese food. The chow mein, whilst really nice, had no soy sauce or anything on it. It was just plain noodles with spring onions etc. It would be fab with that little something extra. The salt and chilli chicken was battered well, had loads of fresh chillis and tasted delicious. Wasn't as salty as I expected though, I added a bit extra. Delivery was spot on. Took the exact amount of time that I was told it would. We got free prawn crackers too. Overall really nice food, just think it's missing the Chinese kick to really amp it up. The ginger, garlic and soy etc. Old review 2020: I think the fortune Inn must have a new chef because the food has really improved in quality! It tastes really fresh and delicious. The Singapore noodles were gorgeous, loads of meat, nicely flavoured, scrambled egg too. Really enjoyed. Loads of pork in the pork balls! Clean batter too. The Satay sauce was gorgeous! Easily the nicest Satay sauce I've had in ages. The chow mein had lots of meat and tasted fantastic. Lots of flavour and fried onions. Not stodgy at all. Crispy prawn crackers. Crispy spring rolls. Everything was awesome!

Always go to this place when we come down to visit. Great food at a very good price. We'll worth it. Will definitely keep coming back

The food here was tasteless and probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had. I am disappointed and would never go here for a takeaway again. I cannot recommend this takeaway at all.

I’ve been ordering from fortune inn for years. They had a bad slump in quality during COVID. But they have really picked up and are now better than ever. I’d order from them every week if I could get my husband to agree to that much Chinese food!!

This is the worst food I have had! Duck was mainly rubbery fat in a watery sauce and curry sauce very bland. Not going to order from here again!

Was informed that delivery was running late due at 18:15-1835 turned up 19:35 raised the issue with the driver as I had already been notified ordeals on its way at 18:20 and was concerned that food would be cold he assured me that it had just been prepared? When I got it into the kitchen to dish up found 90% of food was Luke warm at best and the chicken omelette was completely cold ,

unfortunately the beef was too tuff and stringy, would have preferred Lamb the sauce was runny and bland, too much onion used to pack out the container. the chips and mixed appetisers were ok only problem i don't like the spare ribs would prefer satay chicken on sticks

I hadn’t had fortune inns food for quite some time as my previous experience was not great. However, this time everything was absolutely amazing, chicken balls were perfectly battered and boiling, sweet and sour was tasty, noodles full of flavour, tasty chicken satay and ribs with tender meat. The only thing for me was the seaweed could have been a bit more seasoned as well as the bit of crispy beef. But overall wow! What a tasty Chinese!

Second time ordering from here. Not impressed the first time but gave the benefit of the doubt. Food was bland and felt like it was just thrown together. Won’t be ordering from here again

Don't add your town at the start because i was charged 1.50 for hailsham then an additional 2.50 at checkout and justeat are not being helpful about it. Duck and rice are good, chicken balls overdone, chow mein ok, satay sauce nice but really chewy chicken on the skewer

Absolutely the worst take away I have ever had,tasteless,overcooked and extremely poor.

Rang the restaraunt to change to pickup and was ready in 15 minutes, really nice people. All of the food was amazing. We all ordered vegetarian and the quality was excellent.

Chow mein - basic but edible Chips in gravy - smothered in garlic, literally. Sauce wasn't great and frankly overall disgusting. Chicken & pineapple- chicken was soggy and completely tastless. Even the pineapple wasn't very nice! You would be better odd throwing your money down the drain and raiding a nearby bin for better food

Order for 1915hrs (for a specific reason) Delivery receipt showed a required delivery tine of 1850hrs, and it arrived at 1900 so had to microwave the food as it had gone cold by the time we were able to eat.

Been ordering from here for years (since 1995) Always a great service, great food and great staff. Rarely have to wait more than half an hour for a delivery. Food always hot and excellent quality. Couldn’t imagine life without this restaurant!

Always order from here it's close by and always follow little extra requirements. Was only disappointed with the sausage and chips I ordered for my son as he is very fussy and didn't want to order from somewhere else and it came covered in a sweet kind of sauce. Just wish it had stated this in the menu.

The chicken Curry was OK, but a bit lacking, but the Special Rice was amazing, and the Sweet & Sour chicken was the best I've ever tasted. All the dishes had lots of good meat in them, and arrived good & hot.. The delivery would have been exactly on time if I had taken a bit longer to answer the door! (It was about 2 minutes early). It was the first time I had used Just Eat, or the Fortune Inn, but I'll certainly be doing so again.
