We stayed at this hotel and ate here on our first night. It was for our anniversary. I waited 10 min at the bar to get shown to our table. I was pretty dissapoonted there was no table service and had to order at the bar. There wasn't enough staff and had to wait an age to actually order. I'm not sure if the lady behind the bar was new or not but she couldn't add our meal onto an open tab to pay at the end. She said they didn't do this but another staff member showed her how. She forgot our drinks after ordering despite reminding her twice. The starters where very tasty and after they finished I ordered some drinks at the table. Again I couldn't do this andbwas told to que at the bar to get more. They have an app to order to your table outside but not inside. When I asked could I use it Inside she told me it doesn't really work and not to chance it. Our steaks arrived and we're very tasty but so so small for the high prices. Again had to go back to order desert and more drinks. This time the barman poured me the wrong wine twice! I even bought the menu to him and said what I wanted. A white Canyon pinot grigio but he kept bringing me rose saying they didn't do Canyon pinot despite drinking it earlier. He then said "here just give her this" and gave me a wine glass full of water and said "she can pour it over your head"!!! What a rubbish experience it was for our anniversary meal. And so dam pricey with a beer and wine costing over £16. Our drinks glasses where never collected from our table and the whole reseraunt and outdoor area was littered with them. We will deffinetly be eating elsewhere on our trip. I wonder if breakfast will be so unorganised?

I don't usually eat at pubs but I stumbled on this restaurant yesterday while walking near Lake Coniston and thought I would have my lunch here today. The waitress couldn't have been more attentive and my tuna nicoise salad was lovely. I will be returning as I couldn't fault this place!

This is an order at the bar place. We had to wait ten minutes to place our order and were told that the food would take a further 45 minutes to arrive. When it did arrive it was atrocious. Everything was terrible. Piri Piri prawns were four sad tasteless things in melted butter and a piece of damp toast. The game terrine was too weird to describe and inedible. The burger was apparently OK. Kids meatballs and spaghetti were huge. Steak was grey. Desserts were microwaved to oblivion.

Highly priced poor quality food, who states chunky chips then delivers frozen, great write up of what to expect but sack the chef he or she is not meeting your customer expectations

A lovely location, but mediocre food. Looking at the first few pictures, you would think you would be getting some decent ‘pub grub’ upon visiting. However, we were disappointed by the food especially given the price. We fully understand that eating out has gone up due to the cost of ingredients, but £20 for a pie and chips, I was expecting a hearty dish. However, what I was met with was what tasted like a microwaved pie, with a water-like consistency for gravy. The risotto lacked flavour and again a little watery, which was really disappointing. This place could be a gem being in the heart of Coniston, but lacks the attention to detail to move it to the next level. I hope these comments are taken into consideration, as there is potential.

Tasty, simple food on a beautiful lawn with a view of the lake. We enjoyed a light lunch of green salads, "loaded fries," and grilled cheese at one of the picnic tables out behind the inn. Service was friendly and helpful. A good spot to fill up after boating on Coniston Water.

The venue is great but without adequate staff customers constantly waiting. One meal smelt great and was tasty, the other tiny, I suspect a starter size, although main ordered and without half the listed ingredients. Staff response was great. Refund on the disappointing meal given with a sincere apology.

We were staying at the hotel and the weather was awful so stayed in for a bar meal. The food was lovely and tasty. I only had soup as wanted a dessert so had the crumble and custard for dessert which was lush. Staff are excellent to and very attentive etc

Went for a late lunch at 3pm, meeting friends. 3 of us ordered Thai Green Curry and 1 ordered ham egg and chips. The curry was basically a small bowl of slightly spicy soup with hardly any chicken or prawns and a side of rice. The ham was dry and overcooked and looked unpleasant. Only one of us ate their curry as they were elderly and diabetic so had a need for food. The other 3 meals were sent back uneaten. We were offered alternatives by the lovely waitress who had been badly let down by the kitchen staff and management who never showed their faces. We opted for a refund as the whole experience was a disappointment.

Visited 5/3/24- in the evening. The young lad behind the bar gave us a really warm welcome. He told me he had worked for the company a while and really enjoyed it. The ambience in the large bar was great, and clearly a lot of effort had gone into every aspect of it. Everyone seemed really happy to me and various dogs were asleep in the floor. Proper place in my opinion! The menu was varied and I went for the soup of the day (carrot and coriander) and the pie of the day (chicken and leek). Both were epic, and the team in the kitchen deserves much praise. Young girl waitressing was lovely and checked back on us on various occasions. Toilets were immaculate and the promotional literature was clear and concise. Thank you to everyone involved- we had a wonderful night at your amazing Inn. .

We went to The Coniston Inn for food and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of what was on the menu. We had starters and mains, both of which were delicious if a little on the small side in terms of portion sizes. However it was enough for us. The game casserole was a highlight. Beautiful location, friendly staff and short wait times.

The food is fine, nothing exceptional. Staff are great too. Went with a big family group, paying a deposit and a number of calls to confirm pre ordered food. Arrived with nothing set up, like a table. Put a bit of a dampener on the visit to be honest

While staying at Coniston Inn for 4 nights we enjoyed their delicious food. As well as the usual breakfast buffet, the chef cooked individual orders: our favourites were Eggs Benedict & Eggs Royale - perfect! The evening meals were also delicious; we particularly loved the pan-fried sea trout, game cottage pie in red wine gravy, roasted pork fillet and chicken parmigiana. Accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked & ample. Service was prompt and friendly.

It's a bit hard to see which is your reserved table if you don't know where the table numbers are but once we'd found our table the evening went well. You choose your food and then go to the bar to order which did seem a bit strange for a restaurant but as they key it into a till point I can see why they do it this way. Staff were friendly and helpful and you could change the dish if you didn't want a certain food on your plate. The food was hot and tasty and we went back again.

I was under the impression that a good quality hotel would have a good quality restaurant to match but unfortunately the food served in the restaurant was a huge disappointment and ruined our special anniversary dinner. The smoked haddock risotto was quite literally a piece of rubbery fish on boiled rice with the rice water sat in the bottom of the dish. The steak wasn't flash fired but boiled and the Asian slaw was essentially cooked chunky red cabbage. I regret not investigating the restaurant further before we went. The staff were lovely and friendly up to the point that we complained but, following that, the manager avoided us for the rest of the evening. If you are staying at this hotel, I would highly recommend the Steam Bistro in the village. The food served was absolutely delicious, stunning flavours and cooked to perfection.

As we live locally, we decided to treat ourselves to Sunday roast and opted to go to Coniston Inn. Whereas the quality of the food was good the portions were miserably small ! ONE tiny roast potato, small portion of mash, 2 tiny slivers of carrot (very overdone) 3 small green beans & 2 stems of tender broccoli, 2 slices of beef, smallish Yorkshire pudd. The whole meal was lukewarm, the mash was actually cold. Very disappointed and sadly we will not return and make it known locally of our experience. When we were asked if the meal was alright, I did say how meagre the portions were, answer "sorry about that". We always leave a tip wherever we go, so in response to the poor reply and attitude ...he clearly could not have cared less, no tip was left.

We looked on the website to try book a table but it said they don’t take bookings and only accept walk ins. We walked over 2 miles to get to this place and when we arrived found all the tables had reserved signs on them. We asked a member of staff if they had any space available and they said they were fully booked. We told them what we had read online and they said “ignore that, head office put that so we can try get more tables in”. I think this is a very greedy, selfish thing for a business to do and wouldn’t go back there because of it.

Ate here as a large family group for Sunday lunch. We were lucky enough to have a private room. As a vegetarian it is unusual to get the same kind of dish as the meat eaters. I had the veggie roast on mash, swede, greens, roasties and Yorkshire pud. It was really good. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was good. Would definitely return.

We actually visited here 2 evenings for food, as we really enjoyed the first meal. We had burgers one evening, one veggie and one meat, then a pie and the zoodles on the second night. The food was delicious and they also have. Great choice of lagers: Madri, Moretti, Peroni! They also do 20% discount for NHS staff!

Ever tried cold’Eggs Royale’? Don’t! Really not pleasant or even nice to look at. One of our party opted for fruit , cereal and toast. Please make sure that if you are saying ‘breakfast stottie’ that you serve just that a stottie not a large bap! The breakfasts were v frustrating and should for any hotel , B and B operated be v simple to get right. As for the dinner menu- lots of fried products all fried in oil used to cook fish- no use for anaphylactic visitors. No we will not be eating there again.

The menu was very spiced and chilli orientated. If I wanted something plain my choice was Steak & Kidney Pie or Fish and Chips. Even the pasta and burger had a spicy sauce on. The food was expensive for what it was but the best disappointment came in the pudding. Choc mousse with basil sponge! I kid you not we got a spoonful of each! photo attached. At £7 per pudding (and we ordered 2!) thats very expensive. Fine dining I can understand the limited portion size but this was far from fine dining! My family wouldn't let me complain...... so we have complained with our custom, sorry but wont be visiting again!

Used to be a little bit different, a little bit higher quality in ingredients and in beer offerings. Now it’s just the same downgrade Peroni to Nastro etc. Save a few pence but turns the product into the same as everywhere else instead of that small cut above. Such a shame.
