The restaurant is all about Mauritius. Huge landscape photos cover the walls, and each table is named after a place in Mauritius. If you've been to Mauritius, sitting in this restaurant will take you back there. The food is genuine Mauritian cuisine, it's presented well , cooked to perfection and tastes fantastic. The service is always friendly and professional. I've been to other Mauritian restaurants, but this one is by far my favourite.

We used Flavour of Mauritius for catering services for a Mauritian party 23rd November 2024. The team were amazing and made the whole process for us easy. Food was delicious and the service was great. Our guests loved the vegetable fried rice and sautéed chicken. Salad was fresh and colourful. Would definitely be using you guys again for the next celebration! Keep up the great work.

Maybe the best dining experience I have ever had! Welcomed by Yogeeta who made us feel immediately at home. A delicious array of Mauritian cuisine - if you like Indian/South Asian food, this is for you ; you'll recognize the flavours but have a distinctly unique quality to them. Around 60 different rums available, and a ln extensive drinks list beyond that, as well as catering for vegetarian and vegan diets. Good value for what you get, plus you might get to meet Bear the dog! Lovely atmosphere with a personal touch. I can't recommend highly enough.

I found this little gem of a restaurant today whilst browsing for somewhere new and different to eat. Hemma greeted us and looked after us from start to finish what an excellent service fro a lovely lady The food was so so soooo full of flavours i loved every mouthful including tne little sources on the sides freshly made by Hemma I feel like we had a very authentic evening. I left want to book a holiday to Mauritius and will defo return to try more dishessoo. The rum tasty was also a lovely little experience to have with our food Highly recommend this place

I'm still sat here in the restaurant, and it's been so good I wanted to review it right away. Lovely little place, very cosy. The family who run it have been very hospitable and the service brilliant. I had cardamom and fennel seeds tea which was very tasty. For my meal I had chicken curry, rice and roti which was clearly home made with fresh curry paste and ingredients and it was all delicious. Portion size I'd say was spot on, I couldn't quite finish it all but wish I could have! Great find!

What treat to see Flavour of Mauritius at the Artisa Christmas Market in Caversham. Santastic Food!

Took my mum and auntie here for lunch, we were made to feel very welcome and the food was delicious. The hot goat curry was a hit with me. If your rum lover then you have to check out their Mauritius rum menu, it's unreal, probably the largest selection of Mauritius Rum anywhere in the UK! I will be back for the rum tasting night, count me in please. Don't miss out worth checking out.

Recommended for sure , delicious traditional food and the owners make you feel quite special and give you good suggestions to try . I had an amazing goat on the bone and it was superb 👌. Can’t wait to go back .

Tuvimos una comida fantástica. La comida era excelente y la gama de ron era increíble. El servicio fue excelente y los propietarios realmente se preocupan por su negocio. Sin duda volveremos.

Vine aquí con mi familia para celebrar mi cumpleaños. El personal es atento, amable e informativo, ayudando a hablar a través del menú. Tenía el conejo y estaba perfectamente cocido y la salsa estaba suave. También un gran ambiente. (Puede estacionar en el aparcamiento público cerca del río Támesis de forma gratuita los domingos. )

Been here once before, food was fantastic. Came back, and suddenly we were not allowed to share 2 starters, 1 main, and 2 sides for a table of 2 (also having beers). Ironically, if we removed the 2 starters and added a chicken curry instead, we would have spent less, and you would have made less margin on a main meat dish. It’s rather archaic to dictate to your customer what they must spend when the restaurant is 90% empty. The hospitality could have been much better here. We would have liked to try a variety of different dishes since the food here is so good, but instead, we will not come back, and not speak kindly of the place to friends. Such a shame. Whilst we weren’t charged, the principle of a 15% service charge is extortionate, for the environment and service style. As we were leaving, the owner interrupted herself from serving the only other table, to reiterate her main course policy, making us feel even more unwelcome, even on the way out. I feel terribly sorry for the lovely waiter who was genuinely kind, warm, and welcoming. I would like to hope the 15% service charges are fairly going to him. It could have been so much better.

Amazing seafood boil, very tasty I will come back again!!

I went there once with the family. The food was cooked fresh, however not very tasty and the price was extortionate. £4 for a pair is dhal puri is ridiculously expensive where everywhere in London the price is between £1.50-2.00 It's good to see a local place to eat but I will never go there again due to their prices.

Absolutely loved this restaurant, staff so friendly, the food was fantastic especially the Gateau Bringel and the Rougaille piment - great place for vegetarian and vegan food. Fun island atmosphere inside and of course the fantastic Rum list! Would definitely go again if we come back to Reading.

Me and my partner came here and the food was delicious and good portion sizes! Regardless of your tolerance to spice, there is something you’ll enjoy. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the waiters were knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. Overall, we really enjoyed the food and service here and would recommend it.

Flavour Of Mauritius was a fantastic. It had a great selection of tasty authentic food, it was very apparent that all food was prepared fresh using fresh ingredients. The staff demonstrated great care, attention, and pride in the food they prepared, and rightly so given its quality - definitely a restaurant with a personal touch. There was also a great range a unique cocktails. The atmosphere was very inviting and relaxing with a tropical vibe. The service was great, and the staff were really friendly. We enjoyed talking with the staff about how they prepared and designed their recipes, and sourced their ingredients.

The food was ok and the service was exceptable but I was charged twice deliberately. After finishing our meal I asked for the bill. We got the bill and payment was taken via card machine at the table. about 5 minutes later another waitress came to our table and said that the payment had failed and could i go to the till and try again. As I was on a date I quickly did as asked. I tapped my card again and the payment was made. when I got my statement from my bank BOTH payments were taken but for different amounts. When I went back to the restaurant, the owner said prove that you didn't order more food or drinks. I luckily have both receipts but my bank said they can't help. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT.

We felt welcome from the minute we arrived. Staff were happy to explain the menu and even the origins of the dishes and cooking styles. We kept to simple choices including potato fritters, lamb samosas, sautéed chicken and upside down rice bowl. All were cooked to perfection and full of flavour. The homemade chilli paste is a must try, but beware of the heat! We bought some to take home with us. We drove 3 hours from Swansea to stay in Reading for a couple of nights, but would happily drive the 3 hours again just to visit this place alone for a second time, it was that good.

Lovely food, lovely staff, lovely atmosphere. Would say if you're having curry watch out for the spiciness as it will likely be one more higher than you bargain for (mild being medium, medium being spicy ect). Otherwise, great meal but usually ends up being around £20-£30 per person.

I brought my wife here for her birthday having read the reviews and an article somewhere. We arrived on a Sunday evening and we appeared to be the only people there meaning we had the full attention of the waiter who was very friendly and passionate about the food they were serving. We asked which were the most traditional Mauritian dishes and went with the choices recommended to us. All in all the food was very tasty, the spicing was good and flavoursome but unfortunately there just wasn’t enough of it. The portion sizes were just too small for the price. I was quite shocked when the bill arrived at over £140. Whilst I would love to return and try more dishes on the menu I just feel that there are much better value small independent restaurants in Reading with just as good food. The 12.5% added service charge annoys me as well. Whilst I would happily of tipped as I always do when I am happy with the service I feel that it is my prerogative and I should make the choice how much.

Best meal I’ve had in a long long time, wish I got a photo of it but it was gone too quick! Will definitely be coming back to get a decent picture for my next review!

What an amazing resaurant. We booked from bottomless brunch group of 10 and it was fantastic. The cocktails, the rum and the food were amazing. All of us werevery pleased witg the whole experience and service. We also pre-ordered some other food that wasnt on the brunch menu and they were all delicous including the homemade chilli paste. Will defo be back again. Ps they have a large very clean toilet too.

After watching the semi final England we were quite hungry. After some debating we walked in the restaurant as we never had Mauritius food and we were honestly a bit worried. Group of 7 !! What a nice lovely colourful restaurant. They have a Sisha lounge too. Food was fantastic, along with their own Mauritius beer. Great customer service and very polite and helpful staff. The chef was very accommodating with our request of food. I would say this is one of the best restaurant in Reading I've eaten. Dishes ordered squirrel really tasty and the gravy top notch. Octopus. Rabbit, ragouille, dads lamb, mix mum , chicken livers Highly recommended

We booked this restaurant based on online reviews and we definitely made the right choice. The menu selection was very extensive, the food was top quality with wonderful flavours and the right amount of spice. The hosts were extremely helpful and were very friendly, taking time to talk about the dishes and making sure we got exactly what we needed. For starters we had octopus croquettes and spiced chicken livers. For mains we had the "Dads Special" and the Goat Curry, accompanied by mixed roti, rice and steamed vegetables. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves spicy food.

Never been here? Do it! Lovely owners, cooking fresh flavoured Mauritian food. Dhal Puri, taro fritters, aubergine curry & daube ( bean, potato & tomato stew). OMG! Then I found the cute little hut out back- can book. If you like rum - they have a lot of kinds to try.

Cracking meal. Honestly, our whole family was blown away by the food here. The flavour profile is really novel... we got medium heat dishes and it was perfect for us. Fritters for starters were yum. Fried rice dish was great, as was lamb curry. The vendaye was *amazing*. Service was very friendly, decor super chill. Great atmosphere. We'll be going again.

Flavours of Mauritius… This is 100% one of the nicest places I’ve eaten as of late, it’s opened my mind to a whole new range of food and flavours. If you’re a foodie looking to explore new flavours get in there. Couldn’t recommend enough. If unsure what to pick let the chef consult your pallet. 100/10 The atmosphere is also lovely - reasonably priced too!

2 of us visited 5th Jun 24. Unfortunately had quite a dissapointing experience today. The server was very friendly and the restaurant is beautifully designed. The main issue was firstly the goat curry was rock hard and secondly the price is insulting. For almost £90 the meal left us hungry with tiny portions served (that's a teaspoon by the way for comparison). The rice portion for £5 was so minimal I had to order another. Quite shocked to see a 15% service charge too. Can't think of many places in the UK where they have that. We frequently dine in Reading and Central London and I can honestly say the quantity of food is significantly higher in London for the price you pay. Was really thinking this was a nice place to take people, but after those prices no way! Left a bit of a bitter taste... Additional notes after restaurant comment: thanks for your response. We know the items left on the plate were bones hence that why we ate the seriously tough meat and left the bones on the plate. We've eaten goat curry in many restaurants, on the bone, and many of them are well cooked and soft. We did actually mention the extortionate service charge to the waiter but sadly he never mentioned it was optional.

The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic, the staff are incredibly friendly and food was absolutely phenomenal. Real food and real people. Come here. Do it now. Do not hesitate or look any further. This is the restaurant you are looking for. This is our new favourite place in reading.

We were hesitant to try the cuisine as we’ve never tried Mauritius food before. Glad we went in. Well decorated family run restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing (also the drinks!!), atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were really kind about us having a baby with us. They also had a great changing station in the women’s bathroom. Many vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Our waiter also gave us some good insights on Mauritius itself. Highly highly recommend!!!!

Pleasent surprise in central Reading. We tried Mauritian cuisine for the first time and we were impressed. The dishes are full of flavour, blending Indian, Chinese and European elements. Options are varied, including red meat, chicken, sea food and vegan/vegetarian options. We had the octopus rougaille and the chicken curry and they were amazing. The service is very friendly as well.

We went back to Flavours of Mauritius with friends after a great meal there last summer. The service was outstanding and the food was fantastic. One of our friends is vegetarian and the selection on the menu was extensive. We all had a starter, with a main and side dish, dessert and 2 bottles of wine and the bill was approx £215 including service. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and hope to return very soon.

My partner and I ate here for our anniversary. We booked a private booth and the staff were very accommodating in making our night memorable. They adorned our table with rose petals and had a card waiting for us at our table wishing us a happy anniversary! The manager Hema was warm, welcoming and happy to chat with us and make us feel at home and relaxed. Highly recommend the cocktails, which were delicious. Food also excellent, we'll definitely be returning to try more sometime in the future, although we would happily come back just for an evening of cocktails. What impressed me the most however was the service and friendliness of the staff. I was surprised the dining area wasn't busier on a Friday night - the locals are sleeping on this place! Perfect for a dinner + drinks date if you fancy something exotic and a cuisine you may not have tried before!

Food was okay not tasty enough, but very rude behaviour. It felt that she owns the customers. Not a good hospitality. Nothing was told by the person serving. Second, a small line hiding somewhere in the big book like menu which is not even visible to anyone easily. Finally, how can you control the appetite of a person and ordering a customer to order more when the customer wasn't interested to order food because of the valid reason already told. This not how the restaurant works. We were politely moving away by not saying anything about the food, but when someone wants to bang heads with you, then the best answer is food is not tasty. So, long story short, you cannot control the appetite of a person and neither you can order someone. Restaurant is about hospitality, kindness, and customer feedback.

Fantastic! The fish pasties are delicious, and the goat curry is to die for! Worth visiting with friends to share the larger seafood platters.

Went there on recommendation of a relative. I had the soft dhall puri, cabage firtters and lamb samossa as starter. I never ate cabage firtters before but its so delicious with they chutney. The cocktail was very good as recommended by the waiter. We never tasted cocktail made of Rum from Mauritius. All foods were warm and hot in flavour. The Octopus vindaloo was so tasty and hot in mouth. Never had it before. It was served with white basmati rice. The chicken salmi is one of the best we had with the mix roti. very good food. I will recommend to my friends and relatives and look to visit you again. Count on me. Cheers guys

Spotted the restaurant while searching the net to find a good place to eat dinner. We basically walked in by 7.15pm and we were warmly welcomed. I remember to have eaten your food (Flavour of Mauritius) once in a festival in Reading. Anyway, the food served were warm and Hot spicy as requested. Our family likes to eat Hot flavoured food, we all enjoyed the Dad's Lamp curry, Goat on the bone, Chicken sauteed and even Rabbit salmi which I had eaten very long time ago. We shared all the curries with fried rice, upside down bowl, pilau rice and cantonese rice. Well deserved place to go... I will talk about my friends and other relatives to surely visit your restaurant. One last words, thanks to the chef and serving staffs. Keep it up guys..

We had Dad’s curry and the Rabbit stew. Really nice touch with the cognac and red wine in the stew. Chef was super friendly, took the time to explain her cooking methods.

Excellent choices for vegan foods have attracted me to the restaurant. I was hesitating between a few other restaurants but I am lucky to have picked yours. First time I am eating spicy flavour food from Mauritius. The Rosecoco Bean daude was mind blowing. I cannot forget the Jackfruit curry all my life. My family enjoyed the whole moment we spent at your restaurant. Good service and cordial environment. I highly recommend it to my friends and families. Of course, I will come soon. xxx

I went to Reading on a business trip with two of my partners and found this lovely restaurant. Wasn't difficult to find. Excellent food. It reminds me of my days in Mauritius where I enjoyed the vegetable foods, especially the Curry Burry served at weddings in Mauritius. My colleagues enjoyed the 'Special Dad's curry' and 'vanilla and rose allouda' special. The hot chilies were OMG and tasty. I look forward to coming back with my family.

A real gem in Reading 💎. Been here a few times and food is excellent. Dishes are authentic Mauritian cuisine. Lots of choice for meat eaters and veggies. Aubergine fritters and butter bean dishes are recommended. Staff are great and friendly. Glad we dropped in for something to eat here before our drive back.

We were welcomed in and seated promptly. The server was very friendly and happy to answer all our questions about various menu items as well as give us some insights into Mauritian culture. We tried some Mauritian cocktails which were highly recommended and didn't disappoint. For starters we shared lamb samosas and octopus croquettes. It all came out nicely hot and served with a flavoursome chutney. All was tasty and the croquettes were especially delightful paired with the chutney. Our table had a selection of cooked to order mains including rabbit salmi, fish vindaye and lamb curry. For sides we shared tomato salad, rice, mix roti and paratha. Everyone was thoroughly satisfied with their meal. My lamb curry was seasoned well and had a good hit of spice. I initially thought the rice portion could be bigger since we shared it between 2 but paired with the rotis it was adequately filling. The ROTIS!? STAR OF THE SHOW in my humble opinion. Super soft and freshly prepared perfect for mopping up the sauces. Will definitely be back again to try out the extensive rum selection and dessert since had no more stomach room left for those delights this time

went here on the one off with my boyfriend for dinner and WOW absolutely blown away by the incredible friendly service from the owner - hema - who cooked us the most delicious meals we've had for a long long time! she gave recommendations about the rum menu (which was insane!!!) and i think everyone needs to try the rougaille... seriously 5/5 experience am only just leaving and am already excited to come here again and try something new!!! <3

Had a Thursday dinner here and were blown away by everything we ate. We didn't quite know what to expect, but the chef / owner walked us through the menu and we felt super comfortable dining our way through Mauritius with it's cuisine influenced by the world. We booked for a big birthday party 40 guests at last minute as the restaurant we previously booked cancelled our booking due to an emergency. Upon entering the restaurant the vibe, the decors and the whole restaurant takes you to the island. We were welcomed by the owners and staffs very polite and friendly. Food was excellent including the cocktails. Without forgetting their Mauritian rum . Everyone were happy with the service and food. We had to pre- order our food which was a very good idea specially for a big table. Thank you highly recommended

Just been here for the first time. Authentic and welcoming. I went for the smart decision of asking for recommendations and thoroughly enjoyed everything that came out. What an experience this is! Welcomed in by very friendly staff, and what an aesthetically pleasing place it is! A place decorated with love. The food was absolutely amazing and you can tell it’s made with passion and love, and tastes absolutely amazing! Special shoutout to Hemma (if that’s how you spell it I’m sorry if it’s wrong) who catered so well for us and had the time to speak to us at the end, capping off a brilliant visit. 100% recommend

The place is genuine and we had a warm welcome in a restaurant with a good vibe. It was interesting to taste Mauritius food, which was tasty. However, the portions are small and the prices high. The cocktails were disappointing but the menu of rum is extensive and would suit someone who is curious about this. Overall an experience to be had in Reading.

We had a fabulous first visit here on Sunday eve. And we’d definitely return. Delicious and authentic food, with varied choice options and much enjoyed by all of us. And lovely chat at the end with the owner from Mauritius. Warm hospitality, like we experienced in Mauritius itself. Tables here are named after different areas in Mauritius, which is a bit of fun. We didn’t notice this before but we will return next time to a new location ! A very nice evening - thank you !

Another absolutely delicious authentic meal with excellent service and a very welcoming atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble which considering that there were 11 of us shows what a gem of a restaurant this is!

The place was quiet but it did give us a chance to chat with the owner/chef(?) who was very friendly. The food was delicious and I could have eaten a second helping of the vegetarian noodles. There were a lot of options to choose from and things that are a bit unusual like taro fritters so it was definitely fun to order loads of various things to try. I’d highly recommend trying and will be going back to try more dishes!

Disappointed with the quality of food Rice cold, Jackfruit Curry tasteless, starters burnt. The service was poor £30 service charge added to bill, Pina Colada £10 each also tasteless. Overpriced food would not return to this establishment.

A real gem for reading. One of the few left indépendent places. The food is incredibly flavoursome with many vegan and vegetarian options. There is the option to chose between hot and mild for each dish. The service is impeccable and very friendly and it's also affordable. If you're looking for a more intimate setting there is also the option to hire a cute little booth inside. I truly recommend this place. Hopefully Reading people will keep supporting them!

Wow! What a place this is. The food was fantastic, kind of cross of Indian, African and French. An amazing culinary mashup. We didn't know what to have but the menu sounded delicious. The owners helped us pick a selection of fried starters - with fresh chilli sauce and some Mauritian mains - upside down bowl, goat curry and an octopus curry. Completely stuffed by the end of it. The owners (Yogeetha and Mark) are a lovely pair, switching between chatty best friends, to barman, to waitress, to chefs - who made our evening extra special. Definitely check this place out as it deserves to be hailed as one of the best restaurants in Reading.
