Stopped off whilst passing through Bugbrooke early on a Saturday evening. The new proprietors were restocking everything, and had recently broken the kettle, so were unable to provide tea or coffee on this occasion. We met some good people with similar interests to ours so spent time chatting before continuing our journey. A pleasant experience and we'll look forward to a return visit, when we're next passing and when the new staff are fully established.

We tried Lucky Star Chinese Takeaway at Five Bells, Bugbrooke for the first time and never again! It took an hour and a half to arrive and it was cold. They forgot my prawn dish, put chicken and beef in my husband’s vegetarian dish and overcharged us by £6. We were supposed to get a bottle of coke, prawn crackers, chicken wings & a beer as freebies for our big order. We only got the prawn crackers. When we phoned we were told we were charged £4.50 delivery when the menu stated £1-£3. I asked them to call me after we ate as it was all taking up time & our food was already cold. The lady then phoned another 4 times during our meal and had the audacity to quibble with us. It started at an overcharge of £20, then she rang to say it was £4.50. I ended by telling them to keep the money and we’d simply never use them again. They didn’t seem at all bothered by this. A shame as some of the dishes weren’t bad, although the sweet and sour chicken was pure vinegar!

Fantastic potential. Previously been the best pub for miles. Low trade and desperation have lead to this pub being filled with drug dealing young lads, who are dirty and vulgar, being accepted as regulars, adding to local discomfort and feeling unsafe when visiting. A downhill struggle that needs amending. No current manager, but the lad who takes control deserves a medal and a promotion, because he may be the one to finally save this old favourite venue!

Decided to go here for our family get together (8 of us) before Christmas and it was very disappointing :( the restaurant was fairly quiet but our food took a long time to come out, amongst the meals we had rock hard potatoes, watery fish pie and a lasagne with no flavour, no one came during our meal to ask if everything was okay. Eventually we got offered dessert and 3 of our group were interested in a mousse pyramid when it arrived on the table it looked great but the spoon wouldn't even go through it there was no way that was a mousse it was frozen :( by now we were a bit annoyed we don't usually complain and we had put up with the mains, but as girls....the puddings were the icing on the very disappointing cake we asked to speak to someone about it who very sharply asked if we wanted it replaced or taken of the bill, we opted for the latter. When the bill arrived we explained all the situations and asked if there was anything they can do for us after a lot of to-ing and throwing she reluctantly gave us £10 off. All I can say is if it wasn't for the company we had that night it would of been an awful night.

I don't live in Northampton and came here as we were passing through. We had our puppy with us and asked if it was ok to bring him in, which it was. It's a lovely pub with a nice enclosed garden. It was a Sunday so we had a roast, I had the gammon and my mum had the beef, it came with roast potatoes, fresh carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, roasted parsnips, Yorkshire pudding and creamed potatoes and leeks, which was beautiful. Everything was cooked well, the potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, the meat was tender, the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection and the creamy potato and leek dish was delicious! It was like a home cooked meal, which was lovely. The pub wasn't very busy and the food came quickly, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially when our puppy had a little accident. I would definitely recommend them!

The starters were OK, but you cannot go wrong with pate and toast and frozen garlic mushrooms. My wife had beef lasagne with garlic bread and salad. The lasagne was burnt and hard around the edges, but OK in the middle. I wanted the liver, but that was off, so went for the steak, ale and mushroom pie. This was also burnt round the edges and the pastry and meat dried out and hard around the edges. It was so disgusting I left most of it and just ate the veg and chips which were OK. I complained about the pie and was offered a free desert, which I declined and said I wanted a nice main course. The guy came back and said they were not going to offer anything else and I was presented with the full bill, with no discount! The pub accept dogs in the bar, but not the restaurant. There are a three real ales, but the one I had tasted like it had been standing in the pipes, but I was told it was new on and had been pulled through. So a bad experience and not a pub I would recommend for good food or ale. I would suggest anyone coming to Bugbrooke go to the Wharf. Much better all round.
