Fish'n'Chick'n in Great Yarmouth

We ordered the homemade steak and mushroom pie, chips and peas. It was the best pie we have eaten in a long time. Plenty of the meat, extra tasty gravy and new potato chips. Definitely home made, such a wonderful meal to enjoy whilst on our day out. Will be going there again whenever we are in Great Yarmouth.

Wow! I went with my 3 daughters I had regular haddock it was huge and thick so delicious and between them my girls had chicken pie, fish cake and battered sausage they all said how yummy it was, no over greasy batter and the portion sizes are great value, staff are friendly and accommodating, and it’s very clean. Definitely worth a visit and we will be making this our go to place for dinner every time we visit!

Tried the Roast Beef Dinner, it was absolutely Delicious and plentiful, Beef melted in your mouth Roast Spuds, Cauli,Brocily,Peas,Carrots and Yorky pud all done to perfection and really value for money, Thanked the staff for their service and politeness and complemented the Chef, we will certainly be going back in her at least a couple more times during our holiday,

Nice friendly staff and great food had a large cod which was loverly and freshly cooked definitely will be coming back to try the homemade pies

On holiday and fancied fish and chips for lunch and chose this chip shop as it appeared to have good custom in the cafe. Typical seaside establishment trying to seat as many people into one area gave the feeling of being cramped and only a few inches from the family of 4 on the next table. The server came to take our order and I chose a small haddock, chips and peas and my other half had a large cod and chips. The wait was quite long for saying it was a chip shop as well as a cafe. When the meals finally arrive the batter on the small fish was pale (I should have sent it back straight away) and when I cut into it most of the inside was soggy uncooked batter. Hubby's fish didn't look too bad but still ought to have had a few more minutes in the fryer. The chips were a mix of pale newly fried and darker previously cooked chips (the latter being nicer). The pale coloured chips seemed quite hard which makes me think that the oil wasn't at a high enough temperature. I can honestly say it was the worst fish and chip meal I've had ever! I find it difficult to understand why someone cooking fish and chips day in day out cannot serve perfect food every time.

We were amazed at the variety and quality of food at this restaurant. Despite being a busy place to eat, our food arrived promptly and was served with a friendly smile. The potions and quality of the food were evident to someone like myself who regularly eats out. Even though we ordered cod and chips with mushy peas I must say we were tempted to opt for the home-made pies or sea food plater which seemed very popular looking around at what other customers were ordering. Even though we didn't know Gt Yarmouth well we could see through the double fronted windows that many locals used the place to eat which gave us a good indication that this was the place to be. We have since been back a few times during our 2 weeks holiday and were never disappointed and have sampled their pies, roasts and platters. Definitely added to our holiday experience and we were lucky to find this restaurant early on in our stay. The prices were very reasonably and the potions were amazing and we would recommend this place to eat to everyone. We also noticed the 5 star hygiene rated certificate which is always reassuring when eating out in a new place.

First time eating at this fish and chips as my usual has now shut down since i last came, i heard good things so thought i would give it a try however the experience has been awful and ruined my partners weekend away. At first even when we ordered the food i got the impression the waitress was rather rude but let it fly past, we then got our food me a battered sausage and my partner fish, the chips were hard as anything nothing like the usual chips you get at fish and chip shops, the next morning my partner was violently ill, vomiting and had diarrhoea all weekend. Have been to the doctors and they confirmed it is Scombroid poisoning. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! - FOLLOW UP : Called the restaurant today and asked to speak to the manager whom was awfully rude , he claims it can’t have been from his restaurant as it is the “safest place to eat fish in town” evidentially not true as my partner was completely fine up until mid morning the next day after eating at this shambles of a business… Avoid unless you want to be served by rude waitresses, ignorant manager and get served scombroid poisoning and hard gone off chips !!!

Such rude staff, two members of staff too busy vaping and chatting when they should have been opening. Then when they did decide to finally get the outside chairs out they was so rude working around us when we was waiting to come in, didn’t even say hello or give a smile. Avoid at all costs. They lost around £60 in custom and we WAS loyal customers. Will never return, much friendlier places to eat with staff who actually have manners.

My first visit, ordered regular Fish & Chips, the fish (Haddock) was good, it came with quite a small portion of chips. The service from staff was ok but i did notice that after placing my order i was asked to pay before the food was served which suggests to me that they may have had customers doing a runner without paying in the past, that is not a criticism of the restaurant but more a reflection of just how bad Great Yarmouth is these days

We love this place, and have never had a problem or upset over anything, food is always piping hot. Lately we have discovered a smaller portion of fish and chips mushy peas/beans including a coffee or tea this we find is just perfect for lunch

Came one sunny weds. Had missed the rush so seated right away. Abbie was our server and we were a little annoying with our order. Nothing was too much trouble. We paid £24 for 2 haddock and chips, beans, peas, bread a tea,coffee, vimto and a can of Carling. Would definitely return here

When we were staying in Lowestoft, we nipped up to Gt Yarmouth for a fish'n'chip lunch, and this establishment was near and looked OK. So we gave it a try. Dot's small meal was very good, she said, but mine was a bit over and somewhat dried up. Service seemed a bit random. Despite asking two servers, they didn't get around to taking our order for quite a while, 'cos the table next to our had empty used plates on it. Won't be rushing back . . .

Friendly staff, and the restaurant side of the business is clean and welcoming. We ordered pie, chips and gravy and a burger and chips, both were reasonably good value and freshly cooked, and we had two mugs of tea.

What a great place to eat if on a budget. We stopped off on our way home from a quick visit to Yarmouth (we live a bus ride away).We had a small cod chips peas and a coffee my wife had a regular cod chips and a tea 2 slices of B&B and 3 of the best gherkins I have tasted in ages £25 the lot considering how much things have gone up that’s a bargain.The fish was cooked fresh and was fantastic.

Had the home made pie chips and peas and was engulfed in a proper “chippy” delight. None of this pretentious twice or three times refried posh rubbish. Served up in my hometown of Southwold! Just proper chips and a meat pie to die for. All for a cool tenner. Table service very good and the restaurant was clean and comfortable.

I popped in to get something to eat just before the midday rush. As I walked in the person behind the counter disappeared into the side storeroom and after six minutes hadn't come back, so I walked down Regent Road and found somewhere else.

Stopped for a somewhat late lunch on a wet, kind of miserable day. Ordered regular sized cod and chips, glad we didn't order large, with sides of mushy peas and curry sauce. Absolutely delicious meals, freshly cooked to order. Couldn't fault a thing. Lovely food great service, great prices, all in all a very positive experience. Highly recommended.

A busy Saturday on half-term break and the place was packed. Beth, our attentive waitress] sorted a table for 2. We chose the set meal special of small Cod chips and peas [mushy or garden]/ or beans. 2 cups of tea, served instantly and 10 minutes later beth was putting the food in front of us. The meal was excellent, cooked to perfection, enough to feed the average appetite, and at £8.45 pp very good value for money. We noticed other food on the menu, when we go back, and we will go back, we will report on the quality of our next selection.

Three of us stopped in at 2:30 today for fish and chips. Two of us had cod and I had haddock. We were all very happy with the food; the fish was perfectly cooked and was succulent, batter was crisp but not dark, the chips tasted great. The mushy peas were good and the bread was served with real butter as advertised. I am often disappointed with fish and chips but this exceeded my expectations. It was the best fish and chips I remember ever having at this kind of price.

Whilst visiting Great Yarmouth, we made it our mission to find a good fish and chips restaurant that served good scampi. Well I tell you we found it. The served wholetail scampi that was delicious. Some chip shops serve formed scampi (cheap version), but theirs was the real thing. Beautiful quality food. Not greasy. Saw other customers had cod and chips and the cod was a decent size. Had a glass of wine too with the meal. They serve lovely range of desserts, but we couldn't eat another thing. Great customer service. Will definitely visit Fish o licious again without a doubt. Highly recommended. Keep up the good work

Stopped for a brew not really hungry but saw cottage pie my favourite ordered to much potato on top when tasted nice until i saw mushrooms in it i have a allergy so dont eat them put me off straight away told staff not interested could of changed it fish was slimey in middle as found out nearly all fish skin left on only knew this when got it and batter was horrible to chips were old seemed they dont care as 4 people turned up at 6pm close at 6.30 pm staff not happy never worth going

We were looking for somewhere to eat and found Fish-O-licious by chance, the staff were extremely friendly and quick as was the food when ordered ( they were quite busy ) good portion size chips and my husband who order the large cod thought he had been given a whale it was so big. Would highly recommend this plaice (sorry just had to )

Worst roast I’ve ever had, let’s get started on the small amount of veg I’d be surprised if they were even cooked, roasties made my mother in law sick, the Yorkshire pudding looked anaemic, turkey was dry however lamb was nice and the gravy was nice

Came here last year and as soon as we arrived back this year it was the first place on our list to eat superb, we lad the lamb and mint suet pie and as it was so nice last year full of flavour and plenty of meat this year didn’t disappoint

Every time I am in Yarmouth I always try to have Fish and Chips in this establishment. Don't know if it has changed management but on my recent visit (July 2021) the standard of food and service was the same as usual. The value is V Good plus I got a pot of tea with my Fish and Chips for Under £7.You cannot please all of the people all of the time but this person has been satisfied for several visits.Don't expect Rick Stein quality but then you are not paying exorbitant prices, just good ol fish and chips.

Went today. Had large haddock which was boiling hot and HUGE! So tasty. Lots of chips which were cooked perfect. Staff very friendly and nice to sit outside at a table and eat them watching the world go by.Great value for money compared to the seafront chippys. Will be back soon for more!

My sister and I visited Fish O’licious today 28th June. My sister ordered a chicken burger & chips and I had a battered sausage and cheesy chips. Within seconds of receiving our food my sister found a hair in her chips. My sister was immediately put off. I then found a hair in my chips and decided to just eat the battered sausage, however, when cutting it in half there was a hair inside the batter.Needless to say we left without eating our meals and will never return. I am still retching!!!

Lovely little place, food was good for the money! £6.99 for a roast! 3 good pieces of beef! Can't go wrong! Staff were nice and friendly too!

I used a fish and chip shop at this location a few years ago, and it was rated the best, so, this trip I wanted to eat the restaurant again, but every evening we went there for an evening meal they were either closed or closing up. WHY!!!There are no signs anywhere of the opening and closing times, and I dare say must be open during the day, but on a sunny evening in June by 19:00 closed.I have a feeling that this fish and chip shop has new management, but I was really looking forward to having a meal there, maybe if I come back to Great Yarmouth they will be open...

Visited recently while passing through Great Yarmouth. The premises outwardly appeared clean and tidy while the fish & chips were to a good standard. However, the tables were packed very close together so it was very difficult to maintain adequate spacing from other customers. Moreover, while we ensured we registered for Test and Trace via the Covid app, we did not see any other customers do the same or any member of staff intervene to ask them to do so or record their contact details manually. Until such time as Covid is fully under control (or the management is seen to satisfy its health and safety obligations), we would not recommend this establishment to anyone else.

After a visit the previous year, this visit was very disappointing.The fish tasted undercooked with the battery not crispy. The chip tasted dry, as if cooked in fat not hot enough.Nothing compared to our previous visit in August 2020, which was very good.Spoilt a seaside visit.

As we are in lockdown decided to order a take away from here. Had their fish and chips and it is delicious, would highly recommend any one to try it.

Visited for lunch today after some shopping in town. Social distancing in the restaurant and the waitress was making sure people were using the trace NHS app and sanitising when you came in. We had x2 chicken burgers and chips with curry sauce. Crisp chips, not oily and you seasoned yourself with condiments they gave you with your meal. Curry sauce was the best weve had, so good! Burger were lovely too, fresh salad and seasoned chicken. Great portion sizes too! Seating area was clean from what we saw and we enjoyed our meals. Thank you :)

My wife and I both opted for the Rock and were not disappointed! Great portions, great taste and so many options to choose from.Pies and suet puddings looked awesome....Next time!Staff were great, and very careful regarding seating of customers to ensure safe spacing. Very impressed!

If this is one of the better chippys that Great Yarmouth has to offer, then there is no hope. Portion size was decent but the fish and chips were disappointing. I would have given three stars for distinctly average but it's marked down for kitchen staff coming out to smoke right next to where we were eating (on the outside tables - and not one, but two different staff) and the refusal of the girl cleaning up outside to wipe the outside tables down after we asked her to - pretty unforgivable in these covid times. Luckily we had our own wipes, but it looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while and it should really be done after every customer.

Overall, disappointing. Very oily fish batter, and the chips were totally soggy. Cigarette smokers outside were very inconsiderate when people were trying to eat. Tomato ketchup is an 25p which is ridiculous, so I didn't bother. Overall pricing would be reasonable, but the experience wasn't good. Outdoor seating is in poor condition, chipped and cracked. I wouldn't bother to return, especially as there are much nicer looking fish and chip places nearby.

This fish restaurant has an unassuming frontage, but it’s well worth seeking out. Their fish looked and smelt great, but we decided to try their home made suet puddings and pies and those were just lovely. You could tell they were genuinely homemade rather than just brought in, it’s unusually to find suet puddings, and they had four flavours! The pie was sadly stew-with-a-hat (ie no under pastry) but the pastry lid was light and flaky enough we forgave them (usually stew with a hat is a sackable offence!) and the filling was again tasty and clearly home made. The chips were crispy and non greasy, they clearly know their stuff! We loved the meal and will be back next time we’re in the area. they also deliver to NR30 and NR 31 if you spend more than £10, so takeaways/deliveries are possible.

Haddock freshly cooked, as it should be flaky and moist. Chips lovely, fluffy and golden. Have used this chip shop on many occasions whist in the area, never had a disappointing experience.

Always fresh and lovely food every time I’ve been here, no complaints whatsoever from me and my family. The fish is cooked to protection and never to much batter. Big thumbs up

We fancied a bag of chips so went into the takeaway and ordered a regular chips and paid £1.50.Walking up the road we opened them and could not believe the sight in front of us no eyes had been removed and and there seemed to be black in every other chip. We threw them into the nearest bin after deciding it was pointless returning to the shop as we would only have been given the same again. The owner should be ashamed to serve totally inadequate food to the public,more time preparing is sadly lacking. Glad we did not go into the restaurant side of the business as to see such disgusting food on the plate we would have walked straight out. Far and away the worst chips I have ever seen.

We always come here for fish and chips but we had a long wait and yet when we got there it wasn't that busy, but the fish and chips we had were not up to their usual standard maybe the fryers were not hot enough but definitely not as good as we have had in the past.

Where else to find marvellous fish and chips but the seaside and this place is no exception. Piping hot chips and lovely crisp batter on the fish. The cod was beautiful - nice big juicy chunks.

We opted for the chef special of small cod chips mushy peas and hot drink for £6.99 as well as the kids burger meal which came with chips mushy peas drink and ice cream at £4.50. Cooked well, good service - a thoroughly enjoyable experience

Went in here for lunch while on holiday, after being giving plenty of time to chose, the waitress came to take my order, did not have to wait long for my drink, but had to wait a little while for my food, but then it is alsoa takeaway outlet too. but whenthe food arrives it was hot and well cooked. would eat there again.

We went to this restaurant twice during september and the first time we ordered a regular cod and chips and one large. When the food arrived the fish was superb and in a very high quality batter and the the cod was so big it was bigger than the plate. The second time my wife had a lovely large sausage in batter and this time i ordered a regular portion of cod and chips and again it was top quality and super value for money.

Paid a few visits during a family holiday and found a great choice menu with fair size portions and excellant quaility finely fried foods with friendly staff and large seating area for sit in or take away

If you fancy fish & chips whilst in Great Yarmouth then look no further than "Fish O'Licious" (great name by the way!) Beautifully cooked fish & chips, really enjoyed our recent meal. Not overpriced at all and with a good selection on the menu. Served by friendly efficient staff and didn't have to wait too long even though it was busy. Will certainly return when on holiday again.

We come here every holiday, This will be our last visit. The fish was the worst I've ever tasted and the chips was black and looked like the bottom. I asked for no skin came with Skin staff very rude when i mentioned it. Not very welcoming at all this time.

Just had the best fish and chips in a long time and the air conditioning was wonderful in this heat. The seating was comfortable too. Thanks to John and Linda for the prompt service, great value too.

We was absolutely appalled how the young waitress got treated this evening. We have been visiting every day since we arrived in great yarmouth. she was a pleasure to talk to, We could see she was busy with other customers with no help from any other member of staff even when asking. The complementary drinks did not make up for what we see. We left the lady a good tip as she was superb just hope she got it as the only one WE see doing any work... very unprofessionals running this business....

Was in Gt Yarmouth for a day trip and wanted fish'n'chips for lunch. We ordered fishcake & chips, and Chicken & chips. Drinks brought to table straight away. 20 minutes later still waiting for food. It wasn't very busy in there. Asked a waitress where food was, to be told curtly 'It's coming'. Waited a bit more. Watched customers coming in after us getting served. Got annoyed and decided to pay for drinks and leave. Waitress at till called through to kitchen for order 24 and the staff all looked blankly at each other. She called out that we were leaving because we had waited too long and seemed to be annoyed with us. She took payment for the drinks and we left with no apology. Won't be going back and will tell others to avoid.

We have visited many times and have never been disappointed. This time we had cod and chips, lasagne and chicken nuggets. All of it was hot, tasty and enjoyable. We will be visiting again before our holiday is over.

Been here numerous times before but today was so great. Super crispy thin batter and the chips were soft and well cooked. I had to compliment the owner. We both had the Chef Special including tea or coffee for £5.99 each! Superb value and they have a loyalty card scheme so after 7 meals you get one free!! We will be back soon and we come over from Beccles. Well worth the journey.

We had large cod and chips and enjoyed it, nice, white, good quality fish and tasty chips, best of all no after effects with no Rennies required. Good part of town with plenty going on.

We needed somewhere to eat before going to a booked Hippodrome performance at 7:30pm on a Thursday evening. Lots of places were closed, but not Fish-O-Licious. The main restaurant was closed, but they were still frying and allowed us to sit at a small table next to the fish fryer. We ordered haddock and large chips and it was served very quickly. The haddock was superb, one of the largest we have ever seen, piping hot and the chips were tasty, well cooked, and not at all greasy.

Family lunch, we ordered 2 fish & chips and 2 pizzas, sitting in. We waited for ages, over 35 mins in fact. The waitress was polite but not very cheery. Really, we waited too long BUT the chips were brilliant. Would be much quicker ordering from the takeaway side and sitting outside. (Which we did the next day!)

I had a lunchtime meal and was disappointed that the restaurant had gone backwards since I last visited. Whilst the ‘new potato’ chips were not at all greasy the portion was rather meagre. The batter on the large cod was rather soggy in places and the fish had little flavour. This was nothing one could really complain about and I have had much worse elsewhere but also have had much better. Staff polite. Service reasonable. Average only overall.

We had Just Drove 4.5 Hrs An Needed Quick Food For Us And Our 4 & 6 Yr Old, So After Walking InTo Town We Found This Gem Of A Chippy, We Sat In And A Lovely New Member Of Staff Served Us, Our Food Was Amazing All Round.

if you do not have time to visit all yarmouth has to offer, please do not miss visiting the wonderful cafe. l have been coming to this premises since the 1950's andapart from the name changes, the standards have not dropped. the food is cooked to order and is always hot. had one time when we had a bit of a wait due to staff issues but linda treated us to a mug of tea each which was welcome. this is the best fish n chip restaurant we have found in the town and surrounding areas.
