Wow… Where do I start, absolutely abysmal fish n chips! Staying in Great Yarmouth for the weekend & Grelly’s was meant to be the highlight of my trip in Great Yarmouth after watching The Mac Master on YouTube who stated Grelly’s was excellent & scored them 10 out of 10!! I can only imagine he was very lucky or his review was in some way biased? The chips were edible but certainly nothing special, the Cod fish however was flippin terrible, it was grey in colour, swimming in water and all sloppy, have my doubts this was even Cod as I’m used to Snow White Cod chunks and this was neither, it was undercooked & after two attempted fork fulls I ate no more as was scared I’d end up with a dodgy stomach as clearly wasn’t cooked sufficiently. Even the batter was undercooked and soggy with white scum between the batter and fish, see my photos. For those saying these are the best Fish & Chips in Yarmouth I can only say you need to get out more, it also doesn’t say much for the other chippies in Yarmouth if Grelly’s are the standard to beat. Massive disappointment, me and my other half managed most of the chips but the fish went straight in the bin. I hate wasting good money on rubbish food! Mac Master mysteriously gave them a 10 out of 10 where’s I’m being generous giving them 1 out 10, sorry but they were absolutely awful, or at least were on my visit.

Old chips cold portion size very small. Definitely wasnt service with a smile. Staff eating while serving food and staff member coughing into there hand and never washed there hands after disgusting. Avoid

Portions were massive and got a great deal for 2 lots of cod and chips. Not the friendliest people when we went but can't complain, the food is what we went for and it was pretty good.

AVOID! AVOID AVOID! Never will I return here ever. The chips have so much black rubbish on them where they don't change the oil and the fish was vile. I literally spat my fish over my chips from the first bite it was disgusting. Been to many fish and chip shops up and down the country and this was the worse for me hands down. Went back to report it and was just told sorry with No refund offered. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. YANK!

Good service and low price but the food was horrible sadly. Fish very pale and tasteless, chips soggy and undercooked.

We had fish and chips here for 6 people. The fish was a good size for adults and children. The portion size for chips looked good, but too many scraps/ small chips in a couple of ours which then I felt there were not enough chips as a result. We got cheesy chips but we were disappointed as she just put cheese on top of chips in a open container where the cheese will not melt. This is not cheesy chips!! This is cheese on top of your chips (as you can see in the photo) this was bad and she didn't like them and threw away because no one wants this. You charge way too much for this. Maybe make sure they are hot chips and put it in a closed tub like you did for the children's fish and chips that would work. shame I have to tell you this.

Some of the best fish and chips I have ever had, portions were excellent chips cooked to perfection and fish was very clearly fresh! And the prices are spot on too! Nothing better than fish and chips on the beach!

Had a brilliant day in Great Yarmouth and absolutely brilliant fish and chips - we ordered 17 meals and 17 drinks add these were with us in 7 minutes, fresh and everyone of them were delicious - definitely would recommend

My mum had fish and chips, and I had fish cake, chips and curry sauce, it was well presented, tasted excellent and reasonably priced. The gentleman who served us was very friendly, helpful and chatty,very good customer service. It was cleaned and tidy.

I wont go anywhere else on the seafront. Generous portions all round. The pricing is fair and stays the same all year. Always happy and friendly staff. Food is always fresh and piping hot. Always a good visit.

Asked for medium chips with gravy, small portion, very greasy and gravy was not very nice, instead of putting gravy directly onto the chips, they put it in a carton. Personally I would not recommend

We looked on trip advisor to locate a good chip shop for our tea after a long day at a theme park. We found the reviews for Grelly’s and can say we weren't disappointed. We had 2 large fish and chips, 2 savaloy's, kids chips, a pie, peas and curry sauce for £21 to feed 5. The fish was freshly cooked, was enormous and wasn't greasy at all. The chips also tasted really good and hot.

Go here - you will not be disappointed. Great value for money, friendly staff, food is superb, lots of choice and deals. Very fresh, curry sauce best we have ever had. Large portions and great kids choices, no brainer.

Very disappointed with the quality of the meal. We ordered chilli cheese and chips,cod and chips. My fish was dry and both potions of chips were soggy. Waste of money

Stopped here, for some grub, we were tired and starving. Family fish and chip for 4 plus drinks £19.50, say no more. Food was lovely, curry sauce was gorgeous..

The chips and the scampi tails and cod bites were really well cooked, I'm not a fan of any fish n chip shops, but when at the seaside there ain't much else! Definitely recommended, best I've had for a long time.

Locally caught fish, freshly hand cut chunky chips and the most friendly staff you could ask for! I only had enough for a piece of fish but they threw in a some chips just to be nice!!! Honestly the best chips I have ever eaten in my life, they were completely fluffy on the inside and melted in your mouth! Normally I feel heavy after a greasy fish and chips but that was not the case here! Would give more stars if I could and will definitely come again next time I’m in town!!!

We never buy fish and chips from anywhere else in Great Yarnmouth since we discovered Grellys many years ago now. We visit yarnmouth several times a year, both in peak season and winter months and have always had the same Great quality food and brilliant customer service Beautiful fish and chips. Fish was cooked fresh, chips were hot. Always have a fresh bread roll and some nice thick gravy to dip our chips in too.We find it's Great value with 2 large portions of cod and chips for £12. And always have a friendly chat and bit of banter with the boss.Covid measures were great too.Brilliant to see you today. Sure we will be tempted a few more times before the week is done

Perfect fish and chips which we ate on the beach. Reasonably priced and freshly cooked in beef dripping! Just the way I remember them as a child and so delicious. For once the mouthwatering smell matched the delicious taste. Fish and chips the old fashioned way. Not one for the vegans but perfect for me.

With so many places offering traditional seaside fish and chips it's worthwhile doing some research instead of taking a gamble. Grelly’s looks unassuming on the promenade but believe me their takeaway fish and chips are top notch and good value too. We had cod and chips with mushy peas.. Fish was huge! We sat on the promenade eating them with people looking and wondering where they could get some! Definitely recommend Grelly’s for your chippy tea or fish supper

In a town with loads of fish and chips shops, this is one of the best. I spent a weekend down here and came to Grellys 3 times!

Ate here for the first time today from recommendations on here. It didn't disappoint. I had haddock and chips. The haddock had a nice light batter and the fish was good. The chips were the best part actually. Interesting that it's cooked in beef dripping. Staff were friendly too.

Me and my friend had eaten from there today and we couldn't even stomach them .. the taste of what we could only describe as chemicals and was a really potent taste and smell. An being In a food industry ourselves we came to an agreement that the chips tasted like degreaser .. they were awful.. we were too far to walk back and complain. Have eaten from here before but will never be eating from here again a huge disappointment from me currently curled up with an upset stomach.. we know where this is going.....

These are without doubt the best fish and chips on Yarmouth sea front. There are so many Mickey Mouse places selling “traditional fish and chips” but these are the real thing cooked in beef dripping with proper curry sauce. Nice to see there is still a chippy cooking them properly. Don’t change!

Me and my wife thought while it's a nice evening we would go out in the car and buy some chips for dinner... being locals I thought let's buy some chips up the seafront... really disappointed, £1.80 for a medium, no joke 30 chips that were brown where you can tell the oil hasn't been changed in a while. The only thing I brought that has got a star is the curry sauce.. won't be going back there. It's a shame really being hard times for places like these. Should of gone to a normal chip shop at least I would have came away feeling full.

Absolutely first class, certainly the best in this part of norfolk and the way that they treat disabled people (with me being the guy on the mobility scooter Graham) is truly amazing. A real pleasure to do business with all of the Grellies crew.

Ordered a range of food for a works lunch treat. Did not disappoint! Food was hot and not greasy and they provided a range of sauces. Would defo use again. Apparently deliver at weekends too...

Ordered a fish cake, cheesy chips and mushy peas. Found the food strange tasting but not overly unpleasant. That was until I found 2 long blonde hairs (not my length or colour) in with my food, one at the bottom of the container and one mixed in with the food. I understand hair is hard to control but the lady serving with long blonde hair was not wearing a hair cap which would have helped to prevent this surely? Then I finished my dinner off with a coffee which tasted very strange and far too bitter. Roll forward a couple of hours and I was being violently sick in the toilet. The person I was with had cheesy chips and a spam fritter but she was not poorly at all so unsure of the origin but positive it was from my meal as had been fine before. I was also very disappointed to see none of the staff wearing face masks or a visor, especially the one serving customers!

Followed reviews but was very disappointed with the quality of the small fish and the stale chips which were overpriced - £16 for 3 cod and one portion of chips. Do not recommend.

This hungry Scottish couple have literally just finished two amazing cod & chips, with a curry sauce, from Grelly's. We've eaten fish & chips up and down the UK and this is right up there with the finest! Lovely young lady at the counter, and the fryer obliged us by removing the skin from the cod (the way we like it!). £12.50 for good sized portions & the curry, brill value. Two very happy customers, thank you!!

We had haddock & chips and were very pleased. The fish was superb and the chips very good. Looking at the menu, this place would be a good choice for families as the mega deals were really good value.

Chose here as had good reviews. It was nice enough but I have definitely had better. The batter was quite thick on the fish and the fish wasn't the most flavoursome. I prefer my chips to be a little more crisper. The curry sauce was good. Overall was ok for the price.

I always get my chips here when I visit Yarmouth and have done for years , the chips are always perfect , also love a chip butty , drinks are cold , service is fast and friendly , prices are good , looks clean , ideally situated in the middle of the golden mile , plenty of benches near by ,

This is a classic English seaside fish and chip stall. But it does it really well. Fish lovely full of flavour. Chips fluffy inside with just the right crunch on the outside. And the beach right opposite. Perfection.

Always seemed to be busy which was a good sign, quick service and seating area if you don't want to walk along the promenade and eat. Recommend the Haddock although the Cod was also nice.

We stayed in Yarmouth last year and I meant to write a review back then, but I've just remembered and here we are. Me and my gf went to find a good fish and chips place, we went to a restaurant down the strip and their food was horrible, the fish was tasteless and the chips are stale. Continuing down the strip, we came across Grelly's and wow. Perfect. Just what we wanted; amazing fish and chips and at a nice price. The guy was lovely and it was such a perfect of day experience. Had the special for two fish chips. dinner along the seafront.I can’t say that this place impressed me the batter was thick and very greasy not much fish to be had.chips Luke warm plenty of them but most ended up feeding the gulls. Sorry to say definitely not a five point place but more of a two from me.

These chips don't look great but they taste so so good and they're cheap!! These are cooked in beef dripping and I don't normally like chips but these were so good that I bought a large portion and went back a few hours later and bought another large portion. They only cost £2.40 too so well worth the money!! I saw one staff member guiding a newbie and unlike some other places, the staff all looked happy to be there.

We chose here because of TripAdvisor rave reviews and has some difficulty finding it via Google maps so went with he address- its just a small kiosk next to an arcade.They did q good value 2 fish and chips for around £11 and portions were good. The chips were a little underdone in my opinion certainly not the same golden brown as the photo I saw on here from another customer. They seemed to have a residue of cooking fat in them, perhaps the oil wasn't hot enough or the cook put too many chips in at once.Fish was nice, crispy batter.We sat on a table round the side which was slightly spoiled by one of the staff coming out to have a fag next to the bins. The smoke was blowing towards us, i was going to have a word but he stubbed it out and went back inside.

Whilst we were in great Yarmouth today (10th August 2020) we decided to come here for food. What a mistake. The fish had more batter than the actual fish itself and then when you've broke through the batter you are met with some sloppy fish. The chips did not taste like normal chippy chips. To be honest I don't really know what it tasted like. The place is absolutely disgusting food wise and will never be back.

had fish and chips here really one of the best I had staff also really friendly all ways served with a smile and nothing to much trouble if your ever in great yarmouth and feeling like a great lunch this is one you should definatly try i will be using again in the future

Walking along literally every fish and chip shop looks amazing. I doubt you’d be disappointed. A quick Google and Grellys was recommended. It was yummy. Batter was the perfect thickness and crispy. Chips had an amazing taste, not just hot oil but really nice. Great price for a family meal for 4.

Owner was a lovely chap and directed me to his shop because google took me down a back alley.Both fish and chips were absolutely lovely and cooked in dripping which is exactly what I was looking for. We don’t have that in the south east so if I’m travelling hours to Yarmouth I want proper fish and chips in beef dripping.Grelly’s didn’t disappoint. Fish was very fresh with beautiful crispy batter.Well done chaps.

We ate here today and it was ok. The fish portions are huge for the price but as it was sat in the hot plate for a while it was cold. I normally take food back when cold but i couldn’t be bothered. The chips were warm and tasted good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It was an ok experience but not sure I will go back.

I live 5 miles from Grelly's and discovered them during Lockdown. Fresh high quality fish and chips delivered within minutes.Portions are large and very tasty.My partner loved the burgers too.Last week I ordered very late and they were kind enough to make a last minute delivery. My friends are now 'hooked' too.

Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time, excellent value for money at £11.50 for two large fish and chips, mushy peas come in a large tub so you only need one between two.

My wife & I have just had the £11.50 for two deal & the fish & chips were absolutely fantastic in taste & portion size I'd highly recommend them if you're staying in great yarmouth.

My husband and myself visited Grelly’s in April for lunch, we chose to sit at the tables outside the serving hatch. Our fish and chips were lovely, a good sized portion and the chips were delicious. We also found the staff to be super friendly, something we don’t experience everywhere. If you want some tasty fish and chips the Grelly’s is your place :-)

Hungover? Look no further. Great chips and friendly service. Even without the hangover, the chips are so good, cooked in beef dripping. If you are going to eat chips, you may as well do it properly.

We can only comment on the chips but they were OMG. Quick service, dog friendly and right on be seafront. Tbe owner was veey friendly to tbe family infront of us with their little uns.

I come to great yarmouth with my family a couple of times a year and have tried most of the fish and chip places along the front, but this is a firm favourite that we keep coming back to time and again. The fish is incredible, it's tasty and so tender and the the batter is light and crisp, and the chips are cooked to perfection, not greasy or hard, just crispy and fluffy. The portions are a really good size, and everything is always piping hot (perfect for eating on the beach on cold October day!) The staff are always really friendly and go above and beyond for their customers. I cant recommend this place highly enough.

It's Great Yarmouth, traditional seaside town. This place serves real chips, not reconstituted potato. Hot and fresh. Prices reasonable. The plus is, they have pavement seats. Really friendly people who serve you.

Went for a walk along the front on Thursday with our two dogs, as we walked past Grelly's we got called over and was offered a bowl of water for the dogs. On the way back decided to get some chips so headed back to the same chip stall. Chips smelt good and tasted good, even if they were the first out of the pan and a bonus loves dogs even gave them a few dog treats. Will be going back next time. Fantastic service, thanks

We were on holiday from Cornwall and wanted to find a decent chippy. I went onto Trip Advisor to see if there was any good reviews and I found Grelly's. We both had cod and chips and decided to eat them in the car overlooking the sea as it was raining. When I cut into the batter it was really soggy and uncooked. The fish was also really watery which makes me wonder if it was previously frozen. My husband and I had really high hopes for this meal but was left feeling really ripped off and a total waste of money.

Food was fantastic, great service with a smile and a sense of humor. Chips cooked in beef drippings. Highly recommend, best chips I had in years.

Stopped here as a little peckish, there are loads and I mean loads of chip shops along the prom at Great Yarmouth but the delightful smell of the beef dripping (sorry vegans and vegetarians alike you can’t beat the smell!) the homecut chunks of potato cooked in dripping to die for. Not greasy or soggy - we inhaled them and will be back again this week in our stay nearby in Lowestoft

Stopped here whilst on a Norfolk Broads holiday. The best fish and chips we’ve had for a long time. Fish was huge and the chips were lovely, great mushy peas too. Even our dog got a tray full of treats.

My wife and I had read the reviews for this place so we thought we would try it out. We were not disappointed as the fish was excellent quality, perfectly cooked and served in a lovely light crispy batter and all this at a very reasonable price. Top value for money!!

If anyone passes Grelly's fish and chips, you must try. We had fish and chips and found them to be one of the best we've ever had. Fast service, friendly and sooo tasty. Thank you.
