Another lovely visit. Can't fault the staff. Food was plentiful and delicious.

Lovely setting, good food and great waitress who looked after us well. Only disappointment was there was only one real ale available.

Stopped by for a spot of lunch with the family, my son and I shared a mixed grill, my wife and daughter had a prawn cocktail and fries. The mixed grill was fine, the steak was nicely cooked. It did feel a little bit underwhelming for the price. Lovely pub building and setting it must be said.

Lil was absolutely fabulous. Very friendly. The pub overall is lovely. Great food and very reasonably priced .

Fantastic meal lovely setting.

Booked a private room for a baby shower. We arrive to decorate the room for it to be physically dirty, pieces of bacon on the floor.. not what you want for an event. When making the booking I was never informed of timings for when I would like the buffet to start as I would have said if asked, then when they do bring out the buffet the first thing is that the diatory requirement requested was not done (GF), then when I go out to check further realise that the complete wrong buffet had been provided, after I confirmed 2 weeks prior as requested (which I had to chase x2 emails and a voice message to make sure they had received the email). The manager on hand was very apologetic and cannot fault her or the teams customer service in trying to sort the issue and was grateful for their efforts but it really did spoil my baby shower as I am 9 months pregnant, and caused my a lot of stress. Also would be great it the radiators could be switched off in the middle of a heat wave when a room of 29 people are trying to enjoy an afternoon. In terms of wanting to book a future event I wouldn't be confident in getting what I have booked for, and probably wouldn't recommend to others.

The new menu has lots of new options to choose from but some favourites still on there but with improvements. Prices are still very reasonable. The food was fantastic and very hot. Staff were lovely and friendly and made sure our visit was enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

I love the setting by the river, but the food is average at best, although the sticky toffee pudding was pretty good.

Lovely looking place in a great location. Unfortunately they don’t know how to keep real ale…..I was really looking forward to pint of pedigree (which is my favorite) only to find having paid top dollar it was freezing bloody cold! It should be kept at room temp, I thought that was common knowledge.

3 drinks I tried to order they didn’t have in stock! All simple drinks ,so settled for tap water . Staff vague and not interested in helping one staffs cleanliness needs addressing . Food ok, but nothing to write home about. Place lacked management and cleanliness. Beautiful setting.

Went here and as soon as we went in we were waiting for some of our friends and the staff were horrible about it. We got seated very nice food but very expensive. OK service till right at the end when we got shouted out for ASKING FOR OUR BILL. I will not be returning as the staff were awful

The young girl seating us seemed to have a don't care attitude after booking for window seat tried putting us in the corner even tho two tables were vacant,the girl behind the bar preferred chatting to clearly her mate.very dissapointined with their attitudes .

I love this pub! It’s perfect for a warm sunny day to sit outside or to be cosy on a colder one. The food and service is excellent too.

I am the Secretary of the Devon Horizons (HSBC Pensioner Club) and we needed to hold our AGM and enjoy a lunch at the same time. Fisherman's Cott accommodated us well and we will return again. We held our 2024 AGM with them as well. They are well located for a Devon wide group and are accommodating and very pleased to see us.

Visited for mid week evening meal. The service was atrocious. We were shown to a table and then just left! After half an hour and 2 enquiries, we got our drinks and ordered our meals. We were then left. We eventually got our meal. Then left again until we left. We were not asked if we wanted a dessert or a coffee so just left. The food was ok and each member of staff who did speak to us was nice but they were all run off their feet. Will I be going again NO!

Dirty stained and torn seats, had to clear our own table from previous customer, had to hunt around for cutlery as none on table, food not a very good quality.

I recently hosted an event at the Fisherman's Cott and it was excellent. Thanks to Chelsea and Amy’s dedication and hard work, the night was a complete success, and all my guests had a really enjoyable evening. I would thoroughly recommend The Fisherman's Cott for any event.

We had our wedding reception here and I have to say it was amazing! The food was wonderful and the staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us, they made sure we didn’t want for anything and it really made our special day even more special. Stunning location and we got beautiful photos, I would highly recommend fisherman’s cot to everyone. Beautiful place and the most amazing staff 🥰

Booked a group for a birthday meal. Sorry to say I won't return. I felt bad for the staff who were trying their best to manage a full pub on a sunny Saturday AND a wedding with one bar server and a manager handling tables. The KP seemed to be the one bringing out food (eventually) and a second bar server was in tears. Our order was taken quickly but our first round of drinks took about 30 mins to arrive. The food was fine, when it finally arrived an hour after ordering, we weren't offered any sauces or checked on while eating. I asked for a second round of drinks that I fetched myself after waiting 40 mins. Every customer at the bar was complaining and some were buying crisps because their meals were taking so long. Didn't even bother looking at the dessert menu. The pub itself gives a fair impression but it's scruffy round the edges - woodwork needs attention, toilets are tired, curtain hooks left hanging where drapes have been removed.

A really long wait for food and drinks with no warning. Too few staff, they looked run off their feet, poor things. A wedding going on at the same so maybe that’s the reason. Food pleasant when it arrived but the pub is looking a bit tired.

We have visited before and have had a lovely meal, as we hadn't been for a while we thought we would stop for a bite to eat as we were passing. The staff were lovely, but the food wasn't great. It was quite greasy and basic. We were quite disappointed and would probably not return

Very idyllic hotel, right on a river. The outdoor area is very beautiful and the hotel has its charm with its design. The rooms were ok, of course not without flaws in such an old building. In the evening the staff stumbled for a reason unknown to us. But the food was very tasty. We then got a 30% discount because it took a long time.

We came along for a drink initially and then decided to have food once we looked at the menu! The food was amazing, the seat we had reserved was really well placed, near the window in the bar AND we could bring our doggo, Jack. We decided to sit outside as it was a lovely day and the sound of the river was breathtaking and relaxing. All in all a very good lunch; food amazing and location brilliant!

This is such a gorgeous pub! Right next to the window and dog friendly too! The staff were so friendly and helpful and I just love visiting! We had some food on our visit which was really amazing!! Such lovely food and service and what a gorgeous location as well as being so cozy inside too!

Neglected. Five of us were dining, and we had one round of drinks. Nobody came back to ask if we wanted more. Then, someone finally arrived to clear our table. I mentioned a left meal, something with your chicken, burnt to a crisp, black right through the slices, not edible. Naturally, I said to remove the item from the bill. I was polite, but the lady left and never returned to clear the rest of the plates, I then had to look for someone to get the bill. Three miserable members of staff chatting next to the till. I asked the lady why she didn't return. Sorry, my love, I was coming back (I waited 15 mins!) It's a shame; my kids wanted dessert, but there was no option to order one. So you missed out on drinks, a refunded burnt meal and no deserts. Oh, and the two steaks were chewy as well. Both were meant to be medium to rare, but no, they were overdone too. The staff were not so much rude, just zombie-like, but not really there. As we left, we walked past another family complaining. You have such a prime spot with the river running past. Having just moved to the area, we thought this would be a great place for regular visits and summer enjoyment. No way will we EVER return! Shocking place.

Worst pub lunch we have ever had I had pie and mash the mash was barely warm and the pie was to Dard on the pastry top under that wasjust a soggy wet pastry mush .husband had sausage and warm mash a the sausages were terrible he had to leave it.

The food was ok but overpriced for what it was. I was annoyed when it came to pay, as I had been receiving '30% off' offers in my inbox for weeks leading up to Mother's Day, saying 'book for Mother's Day' which I duly did. We had a table of 8 and I believed we would get our 30% off our main meals, only to be told that it didn't include Mother's Day weekend. I could hardly believe what I was hearing. This is a complete mis sell and I am certain that the majority of people bringing their mothers last weekend will have fallen into the same trap as me. I was angry and felt cheated so didn't leave a tip as I felt I was paying a 30% tip anyway! Your promotions need to be clearer, and although I found the exclusion in the small print afterwards, I believe that you knew full well that I would fall into the trap and book a table at this discount price.

Have not been back since having the new menu. Was very excited to try the new burgers and they did not disappoint - wish I took a photo to show you. The staff I could not thank enough. Every need I had was catered for and felt like the only person in the pub when the pub was very busy. I definitely will be returning and especially in the summer in the sun to be able to enjoy the gorgeous garden overlooking the river with cold drink.

Lovely pub and lovely surroundings. Food (carvery) was very poor. Very dry indeed. Meat was very overcooked so was veg and roast potatoes were very dry and cold. Only one member of staff on the bar most of the time (was another who seemed to keep disappearing and one permanently on the coffee machine)) Staff were very nice but food was such a let down. Considering 4 of us dined and the bill came to just over £100 definitely not worth it. Such a shame as we would love to have come back again but not worth it so wont be.

AWFUL and ruined a special family occasion. We waited around 50 minutes for our drinks, but when they arrived most of them were wrong, so we had to reorder. The waitress didn't apologise and seemed annoyed at us that she'd got the orders so wrong. We then had to wait another 25 minutes for the correct drinks. As we were a party of 14 we pre ordered our food, only to be told on the day that they only had 12 meals. We then had to wait around 1.5 hours for our meals to slowly be delivered. Many people ordered a side of chips to go with their main meal, only for the chips to be served around 15 minutes later, by which time the mains were finished. One person found some plastic wrapper in their (clearly microwaved) lasagna. When we informed the waitress she worryingly didn't seem surprised, and didn't even offer an apology. The service was shocking, not even basic hospitality skills were on show. The staff seemed fed up, and made us feel like an inconvenience. Absolutely ruined a birthday celebration. Such a shame to see a lovely venue go down hill. It used to be great. We won't be returning.

Visited today for a meal with my mother for Mother’s Day. We have always had a good meal there but unfortunately not this time. The starters came out which was good, then we waited there with our dirty plates for 30 mins, before they was taken away. The main come out, and the lamb duo, was very poor, nearly £23 for 3 small pieces of lamb, little potatoes, a very little pie with hardly any filling and side veg. The lamb was very fatty, and not enough of it. Again we finished our meal, and the plates sat there. We decided to get coffees before we left. I wish I didn’t! Nearly £12 for 3 coffees! The lady who served me made me feel like it was hassle as I ordered 2 flat whites and a latte. The lady who served, opened 3 sachets of Nescafé coffee, put in each 3 cups, added hot water, steamed the milk and poured in the 3 mugs, and just said that one is latte?? The milk was frothed in the same just and poured. I’m no coffee expert, but firstly the 2 machines had beans to cup, and secondly flat white is different to latte? I had one sip and I left it, and so did my partner and mum. Very disappointed, with a meal costing over £100 for service and food.

Lovely place to visit, great food with lots of choice. So relaxing sitting by the river letting the world pass by.

Nice situation by the river food nothing special

Spent 3 days at this Riverside pub, the staff were excellent, especially Lil and Sally who were friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble for them. They went above and beyond what you would expect. Highly recommend.

Waited for quite some time to be checked in but not after several people being served before us who’d just walked in. The table was sticky and in the loudest spot, which meant neither myself or my partner could hear the waitress and she barely understood us. No idea what beer he’d ordered until it showed up at the table. No drinks menu, the waitress had to read it off for the computer. The soup was great, the focaccia was burnt and the prawns were pitiful! We asked for a dessert menu which never showed. When we got back to our room there was a huge damp patch on the wall, stains on the sofa and kids drawings on the wall (forgot to take pictures of the drawings). On the plus, the bed was super comfortable and the area was very quiet.

Outside is filthy whole place needs TLC great location but not looked after.

I've cancelled our mothers day lunch due to the shear unhappy comment's on trip adviser which I STRONGLY recommend reading. I really hope this place pick's up in the future as it is an idyllic place 🙏

We were staying in one of the rooms, and thought while there we’d have a meal while there. We had booked a table a week or so in advance. Upon arriving just before our allotted time, we were waiting for around 10 or so minutes to be shown to a table, upon waiting we were told to wait at the bar until a table was made. The waitress (Maddie with two D’s I think it was) eventually grabbed us and showed us our table for the evening, she mentioned it was table service, and that was pretty much the last we had an encounter with them. We were waiting for around 20 minutes or so for them to return to take our order, but we decided to take it upon ourselves to just scan the QR code and order food via their app. Even after this, the same waitress walked past us countless times, chatting to other tables, and it just seemed we were blatantly being ignored, for whatever reason. Shortly after we ordered our food via the app, the delightful shift manager (Will we believe it was) asked us if we had our order taken and we told them what was going on, they were extremely apologetic and offered us deserts free of charge. A few moments passed and our food was surprisingly served to us by our mysterious hostess who previously showed us to our table!! No apologies, from them, but I didn’t particularly expect to receive this from them. We had breakfast booked for the next morning, which was brilliant, it arrived promptly after Sally had taken our order. Top marks to Will and Sally who made our dining experience a little less painful :)

Such a beautiful place with the most gorgeous setting and a perfect place to relax but sadly the food really let it down. We drove nearly a hour after seeing the location of this place and it certainly didn’t disappoint in that respect. Once we ordered we waited a hour for our food to arrive which wasn’t really an issue as we admired the river. I ordered the fish and chips which wasn’t terrible but the fish was very small and bland, the tartar sauce portion was tiny only filled up a quarter of the pot but worse of all the mushy peas were rock solid. My husband’s lasagne looked like a microwave meal and tasted very cheap. The garlic bread was ok but I felt bad for him as she only had that and a quarter of the lasagne. We also ordered halloumi fries which had clearly been sat in the kitchen for a long time. Very basic food unfortunately, the staff were friendly and the waiter said he would pass our comments onto the chef. Felt a bit ripped off as we spent a fair bit on drinks also.

Had drinks with friends this evening. We were greeted by Maisie. Friendly and helpful and offered a fine gin selection.

Was recommended by a friend and looking forward to a nice meal but waited 10 minutes to be greeted, then told we had to wait in the bar as our table wasn’t set up yet, once sat had to wait again for someone to come and take our drinks order. Food was okay but poor service really let down the experience, one waitress even went and sat down at one of her tables to have a chat with them whilst they were eating dinner! Even though many tables were waiting to be served.

As always truly excellent service, we have often come for a carvery and it never disappoints. You should be proud of all of your staff as they are constantly fantastic.

Beautiful situation right by the river. We had a carvery which was nice although not very hot even for a carvery but lots to choose from and my husband said the pork was lovely.

Stayed here for 3 night great prise and lovely staff always welcoming lovely beds and room very clean and comfortable would highly recommend for relaxing

Lovely and relaxed experience from the get go, lady that checked me in was attentive, the bar staff where efficient and charming and the floor staff were chatty and caring for there customers! The food was spot on, we had a ham hock and a chicken kebab and I can’t fault either! And the view is an added bonus! Thank you all!

Tonight we went to the fishermans cot to celebrate a 79th birthday we were greeted. By Maddison the waitress there was full eye contact and a big smile and instant communication .we were led to our table and after a short while asked what drinks we required and the banter between the party and waitress was exceptional . I must say the food was fantastic and as a retired head chef I know the work that goes on the otherside of the kitchen door , well the food was great full of flavour and pleasing to the eye .this experience tonight was all thanks to maddison for a professional commitment

Food was very disappointing, unbothered server, dull atmosphere

The fish and chips I had was good - and the service was faultless. But the menu has so few healthy options. I really struggled to choose something lower in calorie, lower in carbs and just generally better for me. I’d have preferred a salad, but only one salad was available and that had fried, crumbed (schnitzel style) chicken, rather than regular grilled chicken. The menu just isn’t geared up to support anyone trying to lose weight or eat healthily. It all seemed very classic pub grub which means that I won’t return. It’s a shame, because the location is great, right on the river, with a big car park - and only 15 mins from home. How about just making a classic chicken Caesar? Or creating some kind of fresh, Buddha bowl type salad?

Beautiful setting, good food always a pleasure

Came as a group of 7 for my husband's 70th birthday celebration. All the staff, particularly the very friendly waitress we had who had blonde bobbed hair. The surprise birthday cake was brought out after the meal as requested. Thanks everyone. We will be back again soon.

Waited 15 minutes to be booked in and nearly half hr for someone to take our orders. And along time for our food to arrive. Food was disappointing we had hunter chicken never had had breaded chicken on a hunter chicken before it was terrible. Had garlic bread it was cold and the four small slices not worth the the money. The lamb was shameful one small piece of lamb. l did complain and they did take the price of the hunter chicken off the bill. Very expensive for what you get.the food and service has gone down hill from the last time we was there in January 2025.

We booked to stay the night, arriving at the busiest time on a Sunday afternoon. Big thank you to Lillian who made us feel so welcomed despite being so busy. Lovely view, great room, good food and above all fab staff.

Beautiful pub next to the river. We were Sat by an open fire eating dinner with exceptional service.

We had a great meal and cocktails in the restaurant on Friday evening and a good night's sleep afterward. The veggie breakfast on Saturday morning was also delicious. All the staff were lovely, so helpful and made our stay very enjoyable.

Beautiful place, staff are friendly and polite, food however, is basic food that is overpriced in my opinion. Not really seasoned at all, I barely got quarter of my pot filled with tartar sauce which yet again didn’t really taste how tartar sauce should. Love the scenery which would be the only reason to come again for drinks but not to eat food. My family thought the same when it came to food.

Me and my wife got lost in the country and stumbled across Fisherman's Cot by accident and what a happy accident it was. Beautiful scenery, friendly staff and good quality meal.

Fantastic location, stunning river and comfortable room. There are areas that need a little tlc but that did not take away the fact we had a lovely stay. The food was disappointing for the price!

Went for Sunday Lunch. Great selection of meats, food was very tasty. Robert, the server, was really polite and friendly. Made a special effort for our daughter's 6th birthday. Will be returning!

Lovely staff , clean reasonable prices.

I have stayed here twice sleeping in my microcamper with my dog. Always a friendly welcome and breakfast is a real treat! The river and garden is lovely to relax in. Definitely stay again soon!

Came here for valentines with my wife and 2 kids. It was lovely. The view is very nice and the food was amazing. Kids loved it and my wife was happy which is always a plus (lol). But would highly recommended it and will definitely be going back there. Don't miss out!!

We had a room booked out for a party and also booked 2 rooms to stay. 1 double and 1 family. Everything was great. Food, atmosphere etc.. the only thing I would say that let it down was the bathroom floor in the family room. It looks dirty, it should be changed. Staff absolutely fantastic. Really appreciative of their friendliness and helpfulness.

This is our second visit in two months, just to see if it was as good as the first. This time was a lunchtime visit, quit empty at this time, so the service was excellent as the food. I think we will call this one of our local places to eat out, as new to the area.

I had booked a table and the next day wanted it to be in front of the fire. So, I rang and was greeted by a lovely lady of West Country extraction who very easily changed it for me and called me darling. Some might disagree with her friendliness, but I welcomed it! She made me feel wanted, and part of the experience of dining here, and her friendliness was infectious: I found myself warming to her immediately. When arriving we were greeted by Ben, who also made us feel very welcomed, and who showed us to our table, chatting all the while. I felt as though we had only been away from here for a very short time, when in reality it was over twenty years, but Ben made us feel like old friends Beer selection is good, with three real ales, possibly four, a few lagers, and some ciders, and The Campaign For Real Ale rates this establishment highly, as do I. Cool, crisp, well rounded beer was easily quaffed. Josh, a proud young Welsh man, entered into conversation with me about the state of the WRU (14 games without winning!) and being a proud Englishman I thanked him for not putting out their first team when they play us at Twickenham! He was a first class barman, and entertaining to boot! Our table by the fire was also by the window, and the view of the C15th pack bridge, wide enough for only single traffic was delightful. In the summer there are numerous tables outside, overlooking the river, and I can imagine a nice meal and glass of wine while scratching the mozzie bites!😳. We were impressed by the food, but sadly our first choice had run out. No need to panic, we chose another dish and we loved it! It was great food, flying the standard for quality bar food, and not a hint of ponciness or chefi-ness in sight. We've had a great time here, enjoying the atmosphere despite it being quiet for a saturday. Staff were lovely, food was great, views were wonderful, and they have rooms should we want to make a weekend of it. Thanks guys, you made our day!
