Our son and daughter in law treated us to lunch whilst on a weekend away together. We had all seen the pub and were looking forward to our meal before leaving to go our separate ways. The location is great, staff very friendly and helpful, but the food was very disappointing. 2 had carveries and found the meat very dry, vegetables quite well done in the extreme. I had the steak and ale pie, which was vey "crispy" although the veggies and chips were ok. And the hunter chicken was described as not being as good as the one my son makes. Perhaps our fault for not being there at 12.

We visited for my husbands birthday, we were looking for somewhere local with good pub food and the advertised menu looked to be just that. We easily booked a table for the time and date we wanted using the online process which was very clear and simple. The pub was busy but we were seated quickly and efficiently by the host and our server arrived almost immediately to take our drinks orders. Like many places you can order from the table using an app but we like face to face so waited for our drinks to arrive before we ordered our food from our server. The drinks came quickly and we ordered at the same time. The food was good pub fare, I had gammon and my husband had pie both of which were nicely presented, hot and flavorsome. We shared a cheesecake desert as the main course portions were a good size, we thoroughly enjoyed our birthday visit. The ladies toilets were a little shabby and large areas of wall were bare where there had obviously been water ingress, I am sure this will be rectified as soon as possible and it wont stop us, we will definitely return soon.

We had the most beautiful visit, we stayed in the upstairs hotel room and it was stunning, clean and comfy. The food is out of this world and the staff is incredibly friendly, and my partner proposed in private of our room making it even more magical. I will always tell this story to my future children and grandchildren. And bring the next generation to visit, thank you to all those at the fisherman's cot making everything so beautiful.

We decided to celebrate my 25th birthday here on monday night & get a really nice dinner with just myself & my immediate family. We arrived at 7:30, our drinks order was taken & were told after 15mins of waiting that there was a bit of a back up of orders. We didn’t receive our drinks till 8pm (i only know this because i took a photo of my guinness 0.0% which arrived to me in the can & warm) & then we didn’t get our food till 8:30pm (order was taken at 7:45) We understand this isn’t fast food & it was delicious. The vegan burger was amazing & all the food did reflect the menu price. But unfortunately the service sort of let it down, i wish the team let us know there was a back up of orders. From where we were sat, there was only 1 other table of 6 in the restaurant with us, & a few tables of 4 up in section 3.. but they seemed pretty much finished. We might be back for a drink in the bar, but if we were to eat here again we’d probably get our own drinks sorted to save us waiting time.

We had a friendly welcome on our arrival and taken to our table. There was a lunchtime two course menu and a full menu available. The food arrived quickly after ordering and was hot and well presented. The Sea Bass was well cooked and the vegetables fresh. The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere with a view of the River Exe.

Visited here last weekend with my family as part of our holiday to Devon. Absolutely wonderful pub. Lovely views across the river, very friendly staff and food was delightful. We had sausage & mash, fish & chips and calamari & chips. No complaints whatsoever, the food was perfect. We were served by two very lovely friendly ladies, one of which was Jo, who made us feel very welcome and made a fuss of our little terrier Toby. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!

We waited to be seated as instructed, but several staff walked past without acknowledging us. We were eventually seated and moved to a quieter table as requested, which was appreciated. We set up a tab and ordered food at the bar. When our meals arrived 25 minutes later, mine was completely cold, and my husband's chips were cold too. I asked for a replacement, which arrived within 10 minutes and was delicious. The desserts took 15 minutes, and I had to ask for a clean spoon as mine was dirty. One staff member was particularly helpful, apologising and chasing the desserts. We received 30% off the mains, which was fair given the issues. Overall, it could be a great place with more attentive staff and perhaps more people on shift.

The food was great, prepared quite fast as well, we did not have to wait long. I liked that I could scan the barcode on the table and order without waiting at the bar. Beautiful environment next to the river and very well kept outside. Only negative for me was the prices, not massively expensive but a tad pricey for my liking, we got two burgers, half pint of cider and a small glass of wine ant it got up to £44

Food was below average; quality has deteriorated since we last visited, and was substantially worse than the last time we had a Sunday roast there (before the pandemic). Food was either overcooked, bland, or tasted like had been sitting under the roast buffet hot lamps for hours (stale), even though we were eating by 12:45. The wait to be served at the bar was excessive, especially given they looked half full - it makes it seem like staffing is an issue. We didn't see any wait staff tending outside near us the whole time we were there - we left with our finished plates still on the table. View was of course wonderful, and I'm pleased to say that the atmosphere was lovely, inside and out. If the food was improved upon (especially given the price paid) and staffing issues sorted (offering better wages helps!) then this would once again become a favourite haunt, and a top destination in the county.

Just went for a meal that was ment to be a carvery but 13 mins before set to arrive, we were told they ran out even though we had it book like a week in advance. so had to choose from there main menu. which if im being honest i'd rather **** in my hands and clap than eat food from there again sevice was a redeeming factor as it was very quick cause they just wanted to get you in and out within 30mins. But because it was so quick the quality of food was terrible. I ordered a 10oz ribeye medium well which came rare and full of gristle more like that of a rump steak, my wife had hunters chicken that just turned to mush and was burn me and my wife both had a pepsi which were both flat. Needless to say we declined the offer of dessert. Utterly disappointed as this was a place of wife fond childhood memories so we were both looking forward to sharing a fond memories here to which was not the case because of the food and atmosphere was abysmal.

Stayed overnight and on arrival had to wait to check in - staff levels are low (as other comments confirm). After getting my key and walking to the room my heart sank as the outside of the building was awful with paint completely peeled from doors & windows. It looked like a tumbledown shack. I politely suggest that single females might want to give the accommodation a swerve ! On entering the hallway more of the same with a 70's psychedelic carpet thrown in. Room to be fair was better condition, but nevertheless dated. Bed comfortable with basic facilities. TV offering was even more basic with 12 channels available from 340 listed - Don't bother !! Decided to chance dinner in the restaurant and the lovely staff attended to me. Big restaurant with many covers. Tables and furniture very dated and sticky, even though they had been wiped down? Very strange pricing on some menu items £7.96 for one and £15.98 for another = Bizarre! Food was decent quality and plentiful though. Had to laugh at the couple behind me who asked for mustard for their meal, and the waitress returned from the kitchen to say they don't have mustard as a rule !! Slept OK, and decided to try breakfast on departure. Waited for 5 mins at the desk and no one came, so walked into the restaurant amongst a few diners and could not see any staff, hung around for a couple more minutes and then left as I didn't have time to spend waiting with the probability of breakfast being just as slow ! The assets here are most certainly the staff, with the liabilities being the decor and furniture. Invest some decent money Marstons, and you should have a gem. You are just letting this place rot as it stands (or gradually falls down) !

Ordered on the app outside, lady came out and said what we ordered hasn’t been on the menu for a month, but it still was on the app so that needs to be checked at updated as clearly it doesn’t, changed our orders, waited an hour for our food to arrive, no one apologised for how late it was, food was only warm not hot so can see it was out for a while. also went to get cutlery which they said was on a table with sauces etc.. no forks or paper towels. My partner went up to the bar and asked, they said they will bring some over.. never did… so yes our experience wasn’t great so won’t be coming back unless it’s just to have a drink.

Gluten Free breakfast option is very poor. Fisherman's Cot is in a beautiful setting next to the river and the staff are polite and friendly. However, the building is a bit tired and in need of some attention, the bathroom in our room being particularly poor. Such as a wobbly towel rail, mould / dirt on bath panel and shower surround. We paid for a continental breakfast and before booking, we phoned to check that gluten free for coeliacs could be catered for and we were advised it was. We added a note to that effect on our Internet booking and also phoned again four days before our stay and we were reassured that gluten free was no problem. The first morning at breakfast we enquired what the gluten free options were, to then be informed it was GF bread as none of the cereals or pastries were GF. There were no other options within the continental breakfast. The staff eventually offered bacon and egg with toasted GF bread. We had to settle for that both mornings for breakfast. This is very disappointing to say the least, especially as we had gone to so much trouble checking that GF was an option for breakfast. Overall we feel the cost of our stay was very expensive for the quality and level of service offered.

We were looking forward to revisit the fisherman's cot, a great location with a charming atmosphere that we’ve enjoyed in the past. However, our latest visit left us quite disappointed with the food quality. **Food:** We started with the Caesar salad, which was unfortunately as bland as a Tesco meal deal salad. The lettuce leaves were uninspiring, and the dry chicken and old bread didn’t add any flavor. For the main course, I ordered the Hunter's Chicken, which was surprisingly small—just four mouthfuls, and it was gone. The lasagna was also lacking in flavor, leaving much to be desired. To top it off, the kids’ meals were not only small but also unappealing. **Service:** we were outside and ordered from the app yet we were unable to give any feedback on the food as the only time we saw the waiter was when they brought the food out to us. **Overall Experience:** It's disheartening to see a place we once enjoyed fall short on food quality. I hope this was just an off day for the kitchen, but based on this visit, I’m hesitant to recommend fisherman's cot as a restaurant, better just a drink in a beautiful spot.

For starters the name of the place has changed which is something that should be changed online as it meant my partner was driving round the block trying to find the right indian! The flavours of the curries were very nice (albeit that dhansak was the spiciest i’ve ever had) however 3 of the 4 curries the chicken was so dry, almost inedible to the point we all left most of the chicken chunks as they were so chewy. Bhajis/bread/rice were all tasty so such a shame about the chicken as we wouldn’t return again due to this.

Good food but I must admit it can’t be hit & miss.. maybe depending on how much it it but the chips & cheese is usually made with a beautiful cheese sauce but the last time I ordered them the chips were cold & it was just a big standard grated cheeses thrown on on the top & even then it didn’t look like my moneys worth
