Very good mother's Day lunch. We were a large group. All the food came out together and was delicious. Desserts too were traditional and lovely. Service was polite, and well organised. Only thing I would have preferred is a local beer.

Excellent food, very pleasantly served. I had panfried seabass, and it was drop-dead gorgeous (my daughter agreed), followed by creme brulee, also similarly described. The grandkids enjoyed fish 'n' chips and icecream - they'll grow up one day! - and I reckon this local, coastal-set hotel-cum-eatery deserves better support from the locals, as the food is first class. A hidden gem on the coast road.

Heard good things and decided to give it a go while staying in the area. There was no atmosphere and the gentleman serving didn't make us feel very welcome. We had our dogs and felt like we were ushered in and sat in the corner out the way. The place was empty apart from a family in another far corner. No product knowledge of the ciders they had to offer so had to go and check then came back minutes later and had forgotten them again. Waiter kept making an issue of my dog. And being dramatic when he was simply watching what he was doing. Food was average but won't be returning. So pleased we found 'The Farmers' further in the village.

We have been coming for years to Fishermans Arms and today we had a really poor experience! My partner ordered a curry which lacked flavour. We complained and were told by lovely waitress that we could ask for dried chillies to give it heat. That was not the point it lacked any real spices! The chef felt she could come out and tell us that we were wrong and pointed out her recipe which she followed by the book!! However again not the point if she had tasted as cooking she would have known not spicy. She further told us we must be wrong as no-one else has complained. We felt we were the problem. My partner was offered another dish but ultimately fell we will not return. Again reiterate the waitress was lovely!

We called in here without booking and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted by a friendly young man who asked if we'd booked, when we said we hadn't it wasn't a problem. We chose our table and ordered drinks. We had starters of garlic, chilli prawns and garlic & rosemary olives. I had beetroot & sweetcorn risotto with toasted walnuts and goats cheese. A strange combination I thought but it was very tasty. My husband had the fish & chips served with mushy peas and freshly made tartar sauce, which was delicious. We had 2 glasses of red wine and 2 Guinness and the bill was £54. A lovely restaurant that's obviously popular with the locals as it soon filled up. Ample free parking available.

My husband and I stayed here on Wednesday 8th September and it was very nice. We picked a room with a sea view and it was clean and nice but a bit tired. The sea view is of Morcombe Bay but as you will see from my photos even on a beautiful sunny day its far away and looks just like the skyline which I was disappointed about. Check in is also not until.4.30pm. The best thing about this hotel is the beer garden and the food. My husband had the cheeseburger meal and he said it was the best he has ever had! All the bits of ingredients and added touches made it so tasty. He said the homemade coleslaw was devine and the best he has ever had and he never usually comments. The pinot Griogio wine was perfect, the waitress was lovely and very efficient and the atmosphere was really good. The breakfast staff were lovely and breakfast was really nice. Poached eggs were very tasty and fresh and everything was good.

My wife wanted a Sunday lunch so I booked here, and had roast beef with all the trimmings. I started with mini sausages and my wife had the wild mushroom tart. Both were delicious and set us up nicely for the main course. The beef was very nice as were the roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy, however some of the veg was mushy whilst the green beans were undercooked and the carrots were overcooked. We booked for 2pm so maybe that was the reason for the poor quality vegetables but it was such a shame as everything else was delicious. The service was good and the atmosphere was okay apart from a larger old woman who was very loud and chatty with everyone. We would recommend this restaurant for Sunday lunch as prices were reasonable.

A spontaneous visit from The Midlands to see family in Cumbria had us looking for venues we hadn’t previously visited in pretty coastal areas. The 4 star average Trip Advisor review of this hotel on the coast road prompted a lunchtime booking. The hotel has evidently had a recent refurbishment and we were greeted by very polite and helpful staff from overseas. .There were a couple of minor communication breakdowns ie a pint delivered instead of a half for my lady partner , also my starter arrived at the same time as my main course but this was really nothing major to worry about as I have a good appetite. The Wild mushrooms on toast were delicious and the Saturday special ( a trio of mini burgers) equally tasty and unusual. My fellow diners enjoyed the Haddock and Chips and a Vegetarian ciabatta. We stayed for a pleasant sweet and coffees which we took outside on a lovely sunny and convivial terrace. Very happy with the attentive service and the quality of the meal which I felt was good value for money. I would certainly use this hotel again.

I realise that this hotel has only recently reopened after lockdown and maybe they are having teething problems but my meal went back to the kitchen hardly touched. I ordered confit of belly pork which I expected to be melt in the mouth tender and tasty. In fact it was so tough I couldn't cut it with the knive provided. We were not charged for my meal but it spoilt our evening and I went away hungry. Won't eat here again. On a positive note we were served by a very friendly young Polish lady and the dining room was very clean and tables were more than socially distanced.

Two of us visited for Sunday lunch while touring the area. We sat outside. The menu was intelligently thought out, original and well executed. We had two courses, starters and main course. We had seared halloumi cheese and black pudding croquettes. The halloumi was served on a bed of arugula (rocket) and other small salad vegetables, with reduced balsamic syrup. The black pudding croquettes were served with salad and sweet apple compote (sauce). These are interesting dishes. The croquettes allowed us to eat black pudding moderated by potato, and the compote is a typical French accompaniment. The halloumi is a Cypriot/Turkish cheese and responds very well to frying. The main dishes were both seared fish. Being by the sea, these had to be fresh and the taste showed that. One was fried sea bass served with crushed potato/chives. The other was seared hake (I think), with steamed vegetables, sautéed potatoes and a creamy mixture of minted fresh peas, and fried chorizo sausage slicelets. Both fish had the skin left on and delicious. The price was typical.

What a dissappointing lunch we had today, also very annoyed with the service after complaining. I had hoped that a piece of feedback would help to improve a meal that was not worth the price. I ordered beef roast, which was tough and gristley, the gravy was like water and tasteless. Although the plate was nicely presented the food didnt match in comparrison. Veg was really sparse and hard, i couldnt cut my broccoli, three tiny carotts and a small spoon of sweed i think! The roasts were tasteless and very disappointing, possibly frozen variety. No mash, no cauliflower cheese in fact awful.

We all opted for the turkey dinner, the Christmas menu now on sale. The plates were cold, the turkey was from a boned, rolled joint, as was the stuffing. The sprouts were too hard to get a knife through. Gordon Ramsey would have thrown them at the chef, screaming "They're raw!" The carrots had mud and grit in their tops. The gravy was a strange orangey colour, and everything was cold and tasteless. As far as I could tell there were only about 4 other people in, so hardly pressure on the kitchen. The place also smelled of fish (and not in a nice way). It may be called the Fisherman's Arms, but this ain't a quaint harbourside pub with lobster pots hanging from the ceiling. It's a hotel with a distant view of Morecambe Bay, and the only fish I noticed on the menu was "fish and chips". I can only assume that the chef was off, and they'd dragged some poor child off the street to cook. Service was very attentive, but it didn't make up for the awful food. I've seen lots of reviews praising the food (and my companions are regulars who normally love it), but today (a Monday, note a previous Monday review) was definitely an off day.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Yesterday we went to the Fisherman’s Arms which has a good reputation, in the expectation of a great early evening meal. The staff who took our order and served us were very pleasant. I ordered a starter of Mushroom and Tarragon soup which was very delicately flavoured and much to my delight, not rich and clogging due to heavy cream content. There was also a generous pat of butter for the bread – great!. For mains, I ordered a roast beef dinner and my partner ordered supreme of Chicken with garlic. His was passable but not special. My dinner, on the other hand, was not at all nice. Here is the reason why. The gravy was very sour as though it were based on balsamic vinegar. It had sweet overtones as though it was caramalised in some way. There was not much of a meaty flavour to it and it was fairly thin. Anyway, it was not at all to my liking, but these things are subjective and I can understand that someone else might find it pleasing. It contaminated all the lovely nicely cooked vegetables so that I could not eat them past the first mouthful. However, the Yorkshire pudding was so tough that I could not cut it with the knife provided. The Roast potatoes were only luke warm and their exterior was so tough it put me in mind that they had been reheated from lunchtime in a microwave. I gave some to my partner for his opinion and he agreed with me. I was assured that this was not the case but I am not convinced. We were not going to say anything and put the whole thing down to a one off case of bad luck except that we were asked if we had enjoyed it at the end of the meal (my plate full was not really touched). I made the mistake of saying I had not enjoyed it. At this point, the waiter referred our comments to the manager/owner/ person on duty. He came in and started to argue with us and became quite heated, telling us that they had been serving for many years and he was quite put out that I said the gravy was vile to my taste. His reluctance to take any criticism was a red rag to me and I listed everything else wrong with the meal and he was vehemently denying everything, despite the fact that he did not try to taste the gravy, cut the yorkshires or sample the potatoes, so how could he defend them? We were going to have a desert, but before we had the opportunity to order this, he banned us and told us the meal was free of charge, but we were never to return again! We did not have a free meal in mind, merely that our opinion should be noted, since it was asked for. We will donate the cost of the meal to a charity but beware if you want a free meal at the Fisherman’s, just tell them about the quality of the food that you have been served if you are not happy with it. If you do get banned, I can recommend the Round House, a Chinese restaurant on Biggar Bank in Barrow, right at the end of the A590, but if you make a special journey, check that it is open first.

Went for a family dinner between Christmas and New Year. Took a while to decide on a venue because of various dietary needs. the variety available was great for everyone, I personally had the confit Duck with a black cherry sauce which was superb, everyone else also finished, with pretty much clean plates, dishes included, turkey dinners, salmon, Thai fishcakes. The portions were very generous but not too much, the accompanying veggies well cooked and tasty.

Called in here because Ulverston was packed with the Xmas market... we only wanted a sandwich and a coffee rather than a large meal at lunchtime. Service was excellent and the food was of high quality (can recommend the hot beef and Stilton sandwich). Coffee was excellent- served piping hot unlike most places where it’s lukewarm and goes cold by the time your food arrives. A little bit pricier than average but worth it for the pleasant surroundings and quality food

On a day trip around the Lakes, we headed down to Baycliff in search of lunch and stopped here. Friendly staff and only wanted a light snack so one of us had the white crab meat starter which was delicious and the other had the small portion fish and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce. Very good indeed.

We regularly visit this restaurant. It offers good quality food, a wide range of choices catering for all tastes. The menu offers a choice of regular or small portions which enables us to sample several courses and even enjoy the puddings. The wines are of a good quality so we really enjoy our eating experiences here.

My husband and I have eaten here several times for the Sunday roast and always had amazing food so as it was our anniversary we decided to go here to eat off the main menu.We chose the early bird menu, 2 courses for £14 or 3 courses for £18. Great value & the meals aren't any less due to choosing off this menu (as you sometimes find you get a smaller portion). For starters we had the tempura chicken & soup - which was asparagus & broccoli, both lovely & the soup was piping hot so took a while to eat.Mains, we chose the bacon chop, huge by the way, and the king prawn & mussels risotto, again both delicious. As I was quite stuffed at this point I chose the passion fruit posset as it would be light & fresh & my hubby had the sticky toffee pudding.Well worth the price & food delicious as it always is whenever we have been. Staff lovely & atmosphere is quaint. Gorgeous views too !!!Well worth a visit

Don't be put off by the exterior or the lack of atmosphere in the bar/restaurant - it was early evening when we arrived. The food here is really excellent; cooked by someone who cares and with great fresh ingredients. Had crab starter plus delicious home made bread and olives followed by enormous portions of fish and chips - lovely fresh fish, light batter and home made tartare sauce plus the Thai veggie curry. Really good! Finished off with lemon posset and sticky toffee also really good. Friendly and helpful staff. Will be back to try the Sunday lunch.

I last came to the Fishermans Arms some 25 years ago to attend a staff Christmas dinner. I had an accident with cranberry sauce which exploded all over my pristine white shirt and left me looking like a gunned down mafiosi in a Francis Ford Coppola movie,Thankfully cranberry sauce was not on the menu when we visited in March. The Fishermans is a fine example of a 1930's roadhouse, built in the Art Deco style and has been recently refurbished to take advantage of and use the existing decor,The dining room furniture although modern had used Art Deco features extensively. It was Sunday lunchtime and the place was packed with couples, old codgers like me and families, some with young children, The menu was varied and in my view was very nearly on the edge of fine dining.Service was quick and attentive. I had a rather nice chicken dish served with a bed of mixed root vegetables including a very tasty red cabbage presentation. This was proceeded by a starter of spring roll. My wife (another youngish codger) had a prawn cocktail starter, a main of seafood risotto and a dessert of sticky toffee pudding. Good cooking and very good value pricewise. Although busy the ambience was relaxed and cheery. I said that the restaurant / hotel had retained much of its 1930's splendour including the amazing gents lavatories, all black and white tiles and original sanitary ware.Thankfully I did not need to utilise the washrooms to clean up the cranberry sauce faux pas

Recently stayed and ate here and everything was very good. There was a good choice of meals on the menu and a Specials Menu. The food was very good and also the service. Our bedroom was excellent and with amazing views of Morecambe Bay. The decoration and cleanliness of the room was also excellent.Very good breakfast using many local products. It's location along the coast road from Ulverston to Rampside (near to Barrow in Furness) is excellent for visiting the pretty market town of Ulverston, walking along the beach or even having a game of golf at the 6th oldest golf course on England (Furness Golf Club on Walney Island).Really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

Travelled a long way for a family mothers day lunch. 3 out of the 5 meals were unsatisfactory. We ordered a chicken meal & got a drumstick & a small thigh.... unbelievable. Food poor, service very average & to top it all a manager who can only be described as totally disinterested ! He could not have cared less that we were unhappy with our lunch. And a female behind the bar who was quite rude. Won't be returning here.

Barmaid wanted £36. I said, "£36 for two puddings and a pint and a half?" She immediately reconsidered. "It's £29.50.". She printed me a receipt and said, "You asked for extra custard. Life isn't free, sir." I had indeed asked for extra custard, for which I had only been charged a pound. But obviously, people who query bar bills in the Lakes are regarded as the lowest form of scroungers.

Tempted by window display. No prices displayed, shocked at prices. Asked if I wanted vegan sausage roll warmed. Outside was warm, middle stone cold. Stodgy, salty filling. Would have preferred a Greggs. Over priced and disappointing 😞
