Cash only: why?? Very odd these days. Quality was ok BUT small bottle of water £2.40, one small sachet of Heinz ketchup 60p. Owners attitude was CBA and it showed. No eye contact, no please or thanks. Food lacked quality and didn’t reflect the high prices.

The card machine was not working. 4 fish two bags of chips £60 pounds. The owners are ripping of vistors and poor quality fish and chips

They had a special offer - haddock and chips for £10.50. A bargain if it was good. And it was very good. Piping hot, lovely, crispy, batter, big portion of haddock and fresh chips. What’s not to like? Absolutely delicious.

Very busy with take away but we wanted to sit in ! Ordered , took a seat and we were served very quickly with delicious piping hot freshly cooked haddock and chips !! Even the mushy peas were good !! Had some in past in Devon that were just crushed peas !! Yeuk not with fish and chips !! From a northern couple who are Yorkshire fish n chips afficianados big thanks to the Beer fish n chip shop ! Bloody lovely !!!

Stayed for a few days in Beer so for first night thought yes fish and chips for dinner! Can't be better than that, near the sea and freshly caught. First off was shocked at the price, I obviously don't get out much. £9 odd for a piece of cod! But as it's by the sea I expected amazing and was so excited! To be honest I don't feel the fish I received reflected that price, for size or for flavour. The batter was very good and the chips were tasty, fresh and perfectly cooked. Please note it's cash only. Just a shame about the cod. Didn't revisit so can't comment on the other fish served.

The worse place to be! The lady who served us was very rude and blunt. The chips horrible. The fish quite goos as was at least a fresh fish. Unfortunately, there are not no many place to eat fish even though there is a lot of fish in that sea....very disappointed!

Had read mixed reviews for this chippie but some are very good so thought we'd take the risk for a takeaway ( didn't realise you could eat in ) Friendly greeting and hake and chips offered at £8.50 which is cheaper than at home. He cooked the hake and put it in the warmer. Took a further 10 minutes for the chips to be ready However the hake was lovely and hot . Crispy light batter and well cooked. Best takeout fish I have had for ages Sadly the chips were barely warm so heaven knows where he took them from (we couldn't see what he was doing as we were sitting ). Can honestly say the chips were the worst ever. Barely warm , hard and tasteless even the addition of ketchup (60p a sachet !) couldn't improve them . Disappointed. How can fish be cooked so well and chips (the easy bit) be so awful

Ruined my holiday. Way too expensive for some fried potatoes. Thought the quality might justify the price, but alas I was wrong, awful. Fish seemed a little funky too. The staff were rude and blunt. I asked for salt and vinegar but I only taste salt (they lied). Only come here if you want to have a bad day… We weren’t allowed to sit in to eat because, and a quote “plates and cutlery and it’s a different price”. I’ve just paid £25 for fish and chips, is that not enough to sit down and eat for ten minutes? also 60p for sauce is just plain evil

Friendly efficient service. We had Hake and chips which was freshly cooked. Batter crispy and fish flakey. Plenty of chips. Great value at £8.50.

To avoid seagull attacks we wanted fish and chips to eat inside. We arrived at about 1.20 on a Friday lunchtime, the shop was empty. Four adults ordered 2 x Haddock and chips and 2 x Cod and chips. The haddock portions were the last 2 available. The food was cooked to order and the quality was very good, no complaints on that score. Portion sizes were Ok. Our meal with 2 pots of tea and 1 standard bottle of coke came to £75, which seems very high. This is the only option for Beer and perhaps because of that you will pay around 10% more than in nearby resorts. At those prices, it is reasonable to assume that customers will want to pay by card but unfortunately that option is not available.

Absolute rip off prices for decent chips... but cash only.... Sort of 1920s with 2030 prices. No other similar takeaway in the place, and being unscrupulously exploited. Wont bother again at those prices

Great Hake and chips. The Chips were beautifully cooked , crisp and not dripping in oil. Fish was battered really nicely. Very tasty. The two guys were so friendly. Great Fish and Chips - Thanks

I'm only a chip eater, but some of the best chips I've ever had. And ten per cent of me is made of chips. Very friendly service, place looks really clean. And it's just a couple of hundred yards away from Beer beach, so - weather permitting - you can dawdle on down and eat them there (pebbly beach though, and watch out for seagulls).

Our attention was arrested by the special of the day of hake and chips, a change to the generic cod/haddock. Great chips, great batter. Generous portions and value at £8.50 a pop. Hellmann's tomato ketchup for sale, an excellent choice and as rare as hen's teeth in the shops. Friendly, cheerful and engaging chipper who is clearly a long-term local.🇬🇧🇳🇿

Tremendous fish 'n' chips. Lovely fish with nice, crispy batter and chunky, non-geasy chips. Why aren't more traditional chipies as good as this ?

Was really impressed with food and I'm not a fan of fish and chips as I've usually been very disappointed, but not tonight. Fabulous.

They do not seem to know how to Cook, you do not put a pie in a microwave to hot up with the pie still wrapped in its wrapper on it.

We first tried Seaton for fish and chips - too packed. (Good luck to them) We then tried Colyton. That one didn't even exist! Then we tried Beer Fish and chips. Great food, amazing choice, incredibly kind people.They went on serving way after their closing time and one family kept changing their order, were awkward about money but they went out of their way to help.

Unbelievably expensive. Had fish and chips twice, 2 small sausages, curry sauce and 2 bottles of coke, came to £39.20. Staff were very unfriendly. Food was ok but nothing special. Will not be returning anytime soon.

It is Sunday 6th August 2023 and, according to Tripadvisor, the Beer Fish and Chip shop is open. Well, they do not answer the phone and so, having walked there, IT IS CLOSED.

I visited this chip shop twice whilst I was on holiday for a week! Great service and food. Will definitely be visiting this place again next time we come down.

Had some great fish and chips here. Perfectly battered pieces of cod and very well cooked chips! Service was good. We were greeted by a very friendly young chap who took our order ( think somebody said his name was Greg?). Didn't have to wait long and the food was piping hot! Nothing to dislike _well maybe not the cheapest chips we've ever had_ but everything has gone up and tbh you don't mind paying a little extra for a tasty, well cooked fish and chip supper with such friendly service. *I think they might be missing a trick by not serving " Beer battered chips" though! 😆

I visited the fish and chip shop in Beer with my family this week. This is the only fish and chip shop on the village so have a captive audience for anyone who wishes to head down to the beach with some fish and chips. I don’t want to be too negative so I’ll start by saying the fish and chips were delicious. Unfortunately I wouldn’t say they were £52 worth of delicious for 2 adults and 2 young children to eat including three drinks and 2 sachets of sauce. We entered the shop with no greeting at all, there were two other people in there but not even the slightest acknowledgment from the staff. Eventually someone took our order and told us it would be 10 minutes for our food to be ready. No issue with the time as it means it’s freshly cooked. But to say I certainly didn’t feel welcomed is an understatement. They only take cash so it was fortunate I had some cash as there is no cash point in the village and most other places were eat-in restaurants while we wanted to enjoy the beach whilst eating our food. In summary the food was good but certainly not worth the money, service was poor and they are clearly making the most of being the only fish and chip shop. I’m happy to pay higher prices if I feel the service and welcome is reflective of this but here it really wasn’t. I wouldn’t recommend.

What a little gem, the fish was beautifully battered, extremely fresh and the chips were amazing, our whole experience was a real treat and we were served by an amazing young man ( Greg ) who completed a already good experience to make it wonderful he was attentive polite and very customer focus will definitely visit again

Didn’t even bother to order, walked out and went down the road. A make and female ‘working’ in there and just two couple waiting. We waited for five minutes, only ones in the que as the other couples was being cooked. The lady was too...

Only accept cash which is ridiculous and lazy...., out of pies one hour after opening, so ordered battered sausages instead (batter tasted dry, hard and chewy, possibly reheated from day before), chips were good, but half of them were tiny offcuts and not proper chips.

Excellent haddock and hake, the haddock freshly cooked to order. Very good chips crispy on the outside, fluffy inside. Reasonable prices, comparable to similar establishments elsewhere. Friendly service. I’d go back for more.

Worst fish I’ve ever tasted so disappointing. I order 2 haddock and 1 chips with 2 sauces £25 !fish was not fresh , very thin and tasted disgusting my husband couldn’t eat it . Lots of chips ruined our first evening in Devon

Cash only. Expensive, 2.95 a coke, 9.80 for a small very, very greasy piece of fish. Miserable staff, like customers were inconvenient.

Friendly ladies behind the counter kindly split a cod and large chips so we could eat it on the sea front. No queue, fish had already been cooked but nicely battered, plenty of chips to share. Sachet of ketchup 60p each so decided against that but otherwise 😋

Just had fish, chips and 2 sausages and can honestly say they were the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The chips were not even warm they were practically cold. I could see they were already cooked and not being kept warm by anything. The batter on the fish wasn't batter it was just a coating and the sausages were full of grease when you bit into them. All that for £17.20. The guy serving wasn't friendly at all. Not even a smile and took him all his time to speak when I spoke to him. Very disappointed.

Ordered 2 hake & 1 chips. Opened the wrapper to find 3 hake & 1 chips cooked perfectly. Charged us less than the price advertised for 2 fish. Battered perfectly. Its fresh, its fried there & then. Didn't charge for sauce sachets!!! Couldn't fault it. Wish we had a chippy like this back home!

Have a monopoly on F&C in Beer and milk it. SO expensive. Batter sub par, like dough. Chips good. Staff weren’t very helpful. Cash only.

We were recommended this chip shop by the owners of our holiday cottage. After reading some of the negative reviews we were a bit skeptical about trying it in case we were disappointed, however I can honestly say the chips were delicious, the cod was beautifully cooked, very tasty and my daughter said her battered sausages were the best she’s had! So lovely food, lovely service and worth a visit if you’re in the area.

We all went here as a family for our fish and chips lunch. We were amazed by two things. 1. How expensive it was (Annoying that they didn’t accept card) 2. How wonderfully fast it was. You get what you pay for and these fish...

The fish was fantastic although unfortunately overpriced, the chips were a bit soft and could have been cooked a little bit longer, the gravy and the curry sauce was lovely, the thing that lets this take away down in the price otherwise it was very nice!

Very expensive. £9 for a thin piece of Cod and £4 for chips. We were also overcharged which we didn’t realise until later on. It seemed they were picking figures out of the air and charging what they liked. We are regular visitors to the area for 41 years and we won’t be going back to this shop ever.

Waiting time 40 mins, cash only, food was average at best and very expensive for what it is in my view, staff were not the most friendly when it comes to customer service, wouldn't recommend based on this visit....

Worst fish & chips I've had in the South West. Dry and tasteless. Black bits of old burnt oil and batter all over the food. Rubbish, sarcastic customer service. They don't take card either, perfect during covid times. You have to take money out form the hotel next door at an extra charge of £2. Not suprised if this business is failing and down to cash only judging by it's food and staff.

Quite possibly the best fish and chips we've had in years, from anywhere! Brilliant! Everything was perfectly cooked and flavoured and not greasy. From our family member who lives in Seaton, it seems to be in summer when the shop struggles, and possibly where the bad reviews are from. We visited in early April just before the local Easter holidays, and it was quick service but all freshly cooked - even though we were ordering lots of food for 6 people! Not taking card is the only bad thing. At almost £9 for a cod it is dearer than back home in Surrey by a few pound.

Scampi were ever so slightly singed on the outside, but were still tasty and juicy. Flavour wise the fishcakes were good, just tasted like every fishcake from every fish bar anywhere, but they were about half the size of the ones normally served in fish bars. I guess that's why they serve them in pairs. I asked for just one thinking they would be larger. My mistake I suppose. We didn't have to wait too long and the prices were acceptable which is good. But cash only in this day and age, especially when there isn't an ATM in the village, not really sure what that's about....

I was initially put off by all the negative reviews on here, but it's a perfectly good chippie - nothing fancy, currently a limited cash only menu, but still good. Very, very generous portions of chips, good number of scampi. Give it a try, bet it ticks most of the boxes

Worn out, so decided to eat in. Walked around the corner to pick up some Fish & Chips. Best decision of the week. Absolutely delicious. Cooked whilst we waited, wonderfully thin, crisp batter, piping hot chips, mushy peas as they should be and full flavoured, crispy onion rings. Portions absolutely massive! Unless you’ve got really big appetites, one portion of chips is probably enough. Two meals £25, absolutely spot on, best meal of the week!!

10th November’21 - After a long day, decided to eat in and walked around the corner to Beer Fish & Chips. Limited menu on the night (no haddock). However, the cod was cooked to perfection (wonderfully thin, crisp batter), chips delicious and piping hot, mushy peas (perfect), onion rings crisp and tasty, portions massive! Unless you have really big appetites, one portion of chips is enough for two. £25 (cash only), absolutely spot on! We’ll be back, you should try out these wonders too!

I’ve had some random experiences over the years at this place, but always great quality battered fish. As others have said, it’s pricey, but it’s also very conveniently located… Went there last weekend and was told I couldn’t have small haddock “it only comes in £7.20 size” and when we unwrapped it, there was an extra piece - wt#! Luckily I was able to give it to a grateful couple, so nothing was left to waste.

Cannot fault the food, the fish was soooo fresh but it was a bit pricey. I didn’t realise the £7 for the cod did not include the chips, they were extra. Also cash only, the options for getting cash in Beer is the post office but they close 1-2 (and I was trying to buy at 1.05 ) or cash back in the shop next door. The lady serving in the shop was lovely.

Extortionate fish prices, more expensive than London! Unnecessary extension of Covid restrictions - had to wait out in the street in the rain, and they they don't take card payments, it's cash only. Staff not very friendly, and although the food was edible, it wasn't worth the money or experience sadly. In years past this was a great fish & chip shop, with very fresh fish including Huss/Rock on the menu. Now it's just basic cod, haddock & plaice all @ around a rip-off £7.50 a piece (not including the £3 chips), and the fish is no way as fresh as it could be!

I've had Fish and Chips from here before and they were really pretty good. But in Sept 2021 we had 2 bits of cod, one bit of haddock, 2 portions of chips. Guess how much they charged. I was expecting about £18. £20 tops. Nope. It came to £27.20p (I particularly liked the extra 20p) As for the meal.... ugh. Chips were OK, but a bit limp and greasy. But I can forgive that. What I cannot forgive is paying £27.20p for fish that is grey, dry, old, and (my haddock) tasted vaguely like mackerel because it was heading South faster than a cross channel ferry. It'll be a long time before I return... which is bad news for the next owner because negative reviews have a legacy. Next time I'll try one of the Seaton chippies. They might not be brilliant but at least you don't need to take out a mortgage. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. .

Unfortunately this chippy has gone down hill. The food was ok but the prices are way above what they should be I think they are obviously taking advantage of being the only chippy in the area. I for one won't be back.

Extending Covid restrictions in an arbitrary way, means having to order and wait in the street, and having to pay cash. That’s ok, I can live with that. What is not acceptable is the unbelievably poor quality, grease ridden food. Soggy batter on the fish, and chips so oily and undercooked they were barely edible. Avoid this place and save your money to use somewhere else.

The portions are large but the chips and the batter were a bit soggy and that's unacceptable in a chippie. That's the one thing they have to get right.

Lovely traditional fish and chips.

Had to wait 40 minutes, fish was supposed be large, really wasn't ! medium at best. When we paid and received our food not even a thank you. When your the only fish and chip shop in a sea side town you would think that they would be geared up to serve quicker and at least be friendly.

Had really nice fish and chips and the staff were very well organised in taking your order. Good value.
