First Floor Restaurant in Cardiff

So, I had to log in under another account to review the restaurant again in such a short time. Apparently, you can only pick on, sorry, review, a restaurant once a month!! Anyway, here you are…. The second half of the saga… And here we are back in the place of expectations. I must be a glutton for punishment, good job I’m not glutton intolerant. Well, this time it was ‘Beer battered fish and chips’ Best meal I’ve had here I must give credit where it’s due. But…… Firstly, false advertising because I got fish n fries not fish and chips. Most of which were hidden by the fish to make way for the two humongous pots and lemon. We’ll get to them individually. So, I missed a bit off the menu title just for this paragraph. The full title is as follows… BEER BATTERED FISH & CHIPS Mushy Peas, Goodbye Sauce - £17.50. Ok, but I bet you’re all thinking the same thing. What the hell is ‘Goodbye’ sauce? Well, I’ll tell you… Mushy peas… now, when the pot of sauce is bigger than the pot of mushy peas we have a serious problem don’t you think? Humongous was probably overdoing it somewhat. At least the peas turned up this time although in short supply. On another review of this place, they weren’t even allowed out the tin! Then we get to the lemon, what can I say. I reckon it’s seen some action behind the bar last weekend before it made it to the kitchen and then my plate 😳. The fish was perfect! That made this the best dish of my visits so far! Thank you and I look forward to the next unexpected experience next time I’m in. Oh by the way, for those still in anticipation, ‘goodbye’ sauce? It’s tartare sauce. Just call it tartare sauce you plums !!

Well, I was here a couple of weeks ago and thought I’d found a right treat for my birthday whilst working away. Stopping next door but parking under this hotel for the week, didn’t realise what a nice bar they have. Tried the Old Spot pork sausage with bubble n squeak mash, crispy onions, mushy peas and gravy. Hmmm, Old spot must have been a very sunburnt pink pig with the colour of these chipolatas ! And not a mushed pea in sight ! Last night. Well what can go wrong with Steak n Ale pie, ale mash and vegetables. I’ll tell you what! It may as well been a pukka pie from the chippy. Served with a quinnel of mash and, wait for it, seven and a half green beans! That’s the vegetables. And now we have tonight…. You’d think I’d have learnt my lesson, but I’ll probably be back tomorrow. Chicken & Serrano ham schnitzel, sautéed potatoes and ‘smoked’ tomato salad. (Deliberately highlighting the smoked) You could have served me a chicken steak from Lidl and it would have been better. Found a piece of folded pepperoni in it if that counts as the ‘ham’…. Bonus ! The sautéed potatoes were slices of spud that resembled disco crisps that have been warmed up in the oven….. Which brings me to the salad. The ‘smoked tomato salad’ was a bowl of freezing cold quarters with a vinaigrette dressing!! Next episode tomorrow!!

Prawn and crayfish cocktail, no crayfish, on menu with rustic bread, had to ask for the bread. Worst small plate I have ever had and for £10.50

Awful customer service, staff need to be retrained. Couldn’t follow basic requests.

Haven't eaten here but this is a hidden gem for doing some work! I love the atmosphere in there, will be back for sure 👌

El personal es muy atento. Platos calientes. Comida caliente, sabrosa y suficiente. Buen ambiente El aire acondicionado estaba un poco frío al principio, pero se apagó y pronto se calentó.

Estuve aquí como parte de una fiesta en autobús, también como parte de mi paquete de hotel. El desayuno era el estilo normal del hotel, que era la tarifa normal. El personal era amable y educado y rápido para limpiar los platos y vasos vacíos.

comida fantástica todo el servicio pre ordenado bueno tuve mejillones para comenzar seguido por el pescado, que era agradable y caliente con sorbete de champán para terminar fue una muy buena comida y el restaurante estaba muy ocupado

Now known as the Urban Bar and Kitchen serving "Bistronomy", which seems to be a made up name to inflate its idea of being somewhere to eat. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EATING HERE. There is a good reason the menu is not on line. Small menu and they had 3 changes to the menu the night we attended, not acceptable for an eating establishment in a 4* hotel. I wanted a burger, only way it would be cooked was very, very well done, in other words tasting like cardboard. I reluctantly ordered a steak "Blue", this arrived medium rare. I was asked if I would like it changed, I refused as judging by the comments from my fellow diners about their meals, whomever was cooking hadn't a clue about what they were doing. The worst meal I've had in a 4* hotel, they should be ashamed.

Piping hot meal and presentation was amazing. Staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Made to feel very welcome.

Food was good Valve for money and good Quality, the only down side was the noise
