Beats Shed - hands down! not even a competition! Having dined in both as a solo in the last week!.Both times ordered a steak and Stove ( which ironically doesn't specialise in steak!) won hands down. Tonite (19/9/24) had a flat iron, pink - with Pont neuf chips ( which were unreal)- well done to all involved.

Party of 6. Three soups, very tasty but all three said it could have been a bit hotter. Two goats cheese, which were lovely and confit salmon which was very good. Overall, starters were very tasty and the only downside was the 'warm' soup. Main course, 3 pot roast chicken, a baked cod, a lamb rump and a special Dover sole with poached prawns. We asked for a selection of sides for the table. All dishes were extremely well cooked and very tasty and presentation was excellent but portion size was extremely disappointing with the baked cod dish especially so. The sides when they arrived were also laughable in that they brought one small bowl each of champ, chips and mixed veg for 6 people. Two (small) basque cheesecakes were the only sweets ordered. With the drinks (2 bottles of wine, 1 white, 1 red, a couple of morretti beers, 2 margheritas, 2 American coffees, and 1 double espresso the bill with service charge, came to £361 (£60/person) . For the first time in a very long time, I felt angry and ripped off after a meal. Taking the drinks out of it, which were reasonable enough, I felt it was very overpriced, and that £40 per person would have been a more accurate reflection of value received. Staff were pleasant and very attentive.

Went to Stove Bistro recently for what was a delicious dinner. The welcome was warm as was the ambience. Service friendly and efficient, the best type of service! Ordered the Rock Oysters with Pineapple Pickle and Chilli, so good I ordered 3 more. My daughter loved her Comte Cheese souffle, rich and full of flavour. Very moreish. She also loved her ribeye steak with peppercorn s auce, a classic, perfectly cooked. My Seabass Special did not disappoint, to say the least! Pont neuf chips were a thing of beauty and tasted as good as they looked. We felt that on this occasion, puddings, although totally tempting, were unnecessary. Lovely evening, looking forward to going back soon. Thanks to all at Team Stove.

Worked for the NHS throughout the pandemic and having tested positive for covid for the first time, cannot make booking tonight costing us £40 in booking … this is THEIR policy - …sadly a poor reflection on Stove. Even with a phonecall to the restaurant the gentleman could not offer another date, home delivery or other solution. Was really looking forward to going back but don’t think that will happen and will be spreading the word.

I ate here with my wife on a quiet Friday night. The restaurant itself is well decorated and has a nice casual feeling. The menu is small but interesting, we had the duck and watermelon salad and prawns to start, it was delicious and something different. I opted for the hake special in a beautifully put together coconut sauce. The service was good and the servers were polite and good craic. Reasonably well priced will be back!

So - been twice in 2 months - both times exceptional. Hence this review. The food is way above bistro quality, the service very attentive. This latest visit had a spiced lamb kofta starter and a lobster gratin main!! - who knew the latter existed. Both off their specials for the evening. Seriously well done - and amazing to have such a gem on the Ormeau Road. Will be back-- many times ( hopefully)

An innovative culinary take on the neighbourhood bistro, Stove, on the Ormeau Road, champions quality local produce prepared and cooked with passion and precision. The upstairs restaurant has a cosy, unpretentious vibe, with delicious food served on bespoke tableware from Rory Shearer, one of Ireland’s leading ceramic artists. We loved every course, from the excellent cocktails and moreish snacks of crispy monkfish cheeks and wild garlic bread with mozzarella, to the salt baked celeriac starter with young buck and candied walnuts, and the stunningly good Kilkeel crab arancini. We also couldn’t get enough of the Comté twice baked soufflé, fluffy and light with creamed leeks and watercress. Mains were equally good; a hake special with a prawn bisque, smoked haddock with creamed spinach and poached egg, and breast of chicken with whipped potatoes, asparagus, and an earthy morel sauce. And to finish, the chocolate pot au creme, the selection of Mike’s Fancy Cheeses, and the cloud-like passion fruit soufflé with coconut ice cream were utterly heavenly. Stove. A masterclass in modern bistro cookery.

Top marks for Stove tonight. We were a party of 10, so we ordered nearly the whole menu. Highlights were the Steak Tartar starter: beautifully presented with a confit egg yolk on top. There was just the right amount of capers and tiny pieces of gherkins. Seasoned very well and served with some little slices of ciabatta toast. Those who chose the Beetroot Salad were happy, again the presentation was very appealing. Every element was freshly made. Several diners opted for the Crab Risotto, which smelled and tasted delicious, the flavours again benefitting from stock that concentrated the delicate flavour of crab. Mains included a beef dish which paired a perfectly pink fillet, with a slow cooked tranch of beef, falling apart (in a good way). This had been cooked long and slow to create amazing flavour. There was a Special of the Day, which was Plaice served with Shrimps and fondant potatoes. You know that feeling where everyone stops talking and a hush falls over the group? That happened. For there to be not one issue among 10 diners, that says something. Not everyone ordered dessert, we filed the options to memory for a future visit. One stand out dessert was Buttermilk Pannacotta, which had the perfect wobble and a sharp , clean taste. Next time, we would definitely save space to do the desserts justice. We drank a Chilean Pinot Noir and a Pinot Grigio, from a modest and well- priced wine list. I must make some comments about the service. The waiting staff were knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. They really added to the impression that this is restaurant firing on all cylinders.

Phenomenal. Went on Saturday night for a birthday meal with the Mrs. Been to many top establishments across Belfast, and Europe, Stove Bistro has to be up there with the very best. Tucked away up a flight of stairs at the front of the Ormeau road, the restaurant itself is unpretentious, with a minimalistic, yet clean design. It's quite a compact dining area, but in my opinion, it's the perfect size. Service was impeccable the entire night, supplying fresh bottles of water every time one was empty. 10/10. Food was spectacular, Cheese Soufflé for the starter was perhaps the nicest starter I've ever had, and the lamb for the main was divine, with a delicious chocolate tart & mocha ice cream to finish. The cocktails were also lovely, and at £9.50 each, they are reasonably priced for this time of establishment. 3 starters and 3 cocktails each = £70 each, which again, is very reasonable. Overall: Very impressed with every aspect of Stove Bistro. I will definitely be returning.

I remember this place from when it was a little cafe called the 3 bears. Last night, going back to it as Stove, first impressions weren't brilliant. Having to access the restaurant from the street up a flight of stairs for some reason gave an impression that this was going to be a second rate establishment in a place not designed for fine dining. Then on arrival on time, our table wasn't ready and we had to crowd into the tiny 3 seat waiting area at the door where we were told there was no cloakroom. We had the choice to wear our coats, hang them on the back of our chair or leave them in a heap by the door. But there was a good vibe going on, plenty of noise, and happy customers at tables. There did seem at first to be a smell of old cooling oil, but when we were shown to our table that quickly disappeared. No attempt to flog us a bottle of overpriced water- we were brought honest tap water in a carafe without having to ask. The wine list had 3 of our favourite wines that normally don't seem to feature. The menu was a good choice- I had a cheese and leek souffle to start. It was divine. Lovely souffle and full of flavour. 3 of us chose the special- the rump steak with beef dripping potatoes. Once the shock of the appearance of a somewhat lonely looking cuboid of layered roasted potato died away- and the absence of any supporting cast of vegetables on our plate- which we had to order separately- the actual food was delicious. The pepper sauce was flavoursome, the quantity of potato was actually enough, and our extra vegetables were properly cooked and delicious. One of our party pronounced it the best steak they had ever had. The desserts all looked great- I had cheese which was also a great selection. Oh- and the gin and blood orange cocktail at the start of the night was also delicious. Even though it seemed a small place, and lacked maybe the extra finesse of a 5* restaurant I would give this place a solid 5 stars for the quality of the food, the presentation, and the service. I definitely highly recommend it.

Great food and exceptional service in cool, laid-back surroundings. The food was perfect - the chicken breast with gremolata was exceptional (though I suggest adding some of the deliciously seasoned chips) and the flatiron steak cooked beautifully. My only criticism is that the Old Fashioned seemed to lack sugar, leaving it far too dry.

We were walking around central Belfast on tour and spotted the Parisien Cafe right across the street from the Belfast City Hall. Cute place and we were delighted with their food and expresso. My wife and I shared a brioche French toast which came with some ham/bacon. The French toast was magnifico, some of the best we have ever had. The ham/bacon was good and not as salty as what we have become use to while in England. I finished off with a caramel macchiato that was good as or maybe better than what I've had in Paris.

Not the easiest place to find (it's tucked away) so we were a little late for our booking. It was the total antipathy to the usual snooty, starchy M* restaurants. A very laid back, casual atmosphere. They were happy to provide the tasting, and veggie tasting menus which is not always the case. The food was fabulous. No chef egos on display - no Heston-esque experimentation, no "oyster ice cream" type nonsense (actually seen on a menu in Galway), simply good ingredients, perfectly cooked and combinations that worked 100%. We had the wine flight, which was also superb. Halibut was my personal star, but then halibut always is, whenever on a menu. Unless it's overcooked, which it was not here. Only two less than glowing comments. Nothing personal here, but a strong Belfast accent is very tricky to soft southern English ears, and with the hubbub and music we simply could not understand our servers, especially the sommelier as she described the wine. We had to pretend with a knowing smile, as asking for endless repetition is embarrassing. Speaking more loudly would help. I was also surprised at paper napkins. Surely somewhere of this calibre could run to linen. All in all, we enjoyed the experience enormously and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
