fantastic gluten free fish and chips

Superb. I ordered a large cod and chips on arrival and waited about 7 minutes. The fish was delicious, the chips were great and the portion was outstanding. Will definitely be going back

Driver ran out of fuel and had to get a lift home to get a fuel can. Subsequently food was very late, cold and missing items.

Pre ordered at 11am for 5:15 left at 5:40 for the pre order watching everyone else leave before us.

Visited twice recently as staying locally for work. Great experience, food reasonably priced and consistently good, service fast and staff lovely - Highly recommend (And I know my fish and chips :-))

Always great quality food, but unfortunately every time we do a large order we end up missing parts of the order, and either have to drive back to collect it or do without.! Keep trying and let’s hope the service gets as good as the food 🙏

Food was around 15 minutes late, cold. Cheese burger was not edible or as described. Kids drink bottle was already open? Shame, I've ordered here a few times and it's been good but I won't be ordering again.

The battered cauliflower was lovely However the cheese on the chips had a really strange / gone off taste and I was unable to eat my meal. My partners chicken curry and chips was nice.

Ordered chips, haddock, saveloy and curry sauce. ETA was 6pm, then 6:05pm, then 6:15pm, then 6:20pm, then 6:25pm, then 6:35pm! Tried calling the restaurant, no answer. Order finally shows up at 6:35pm stone cold! Fintans is usually good but this was abysmal

Great chips. Buy from here regularly. The food is lovely and fresh and the portions are good. Can recommend the fish as well.

Generally always have a good experience here. I’ve had a bad experience a few times with their Llanishen branch and left feedback recently too. Ordered online from here this time and they sent an apology note and extra portion of chips and a drink. We couldn’t really eat much of the chips as we already ordered what we wanted but a nice gesture!

Ordered fish and chips today which were okay but the chips were small scrap ends of the frying load of chips. Very disappointed in meal and definitely not worth the cost.

Great chippy, great menu selection, great portion sizes. Fresh white flaky fish, perfect chip shop chips. Great vibe about the place, great staff. Can eat in or take away. Everything you would want in a proper chip shop. I won’t be going anywhere else.

I am here every Friday to buy fish and chips for my dad. Always good service, but one man sticks out in Particular! He must be recognised for His great service, friendly manner, efficiency, obvious great work ethic. He doesn’t stop! Very busy but makes it seem effortless. His presentation is spot on, clean and tidy, and his cross contamination and hygiene does not go unnoticed. It’s always wonderful to see the way he works. I don’t know his name, but initials are SJ, he wears an under armour cap. Many thanks to all the team, But especially SJ

Had a chippy tea tonight. Service was quick, polite and friendly and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. The lad called Sam was very helpful. Will be back

Estamos en Newport y hemos pedido Fontana al menos 5 veces! ¡Supera a cualquier tienda de chips en Newport! La comida es increíble! La única crítica es que la cena de pescado en las últimas 3 veces no ha tenido los guisantes o limón. También pedimos sal y vinagre y eso nunca está ahí. A pesar de eso, sigue siendo la mejor tienda de pescado alrededor! ¡Mantengan la calidad Fintans!

The worst chip shop in Cardiff £8.60 for chip butty with curry sauce and a sausage and batter hardly no sauce rubbish chips and the worst sausage in batter I’ve ever eaten

Used to be a great Fish and chip shop, after our visit today we won't be back, over priced and over cooked fish with small portions.

The didn’t put the chips in with the fish bites, everything else was perfect

I recently visited Washington machines outside the Chip shop and was quite disappointed by what I witnessed. While waiting outside, I saw a staff members taking a smoke break right outside the building. What concerned me most was that they were wearing their kitchen aprons and uniforms during this activity. This is not only off-putting but also breaches basic hygiene regulations. Wearing kitchen attire while smoking and outside the kitchen area is simply unacceptable, as it raises concerns about the cleanliness and safety of the food being prepared. I hope the management takes immediate action to address this issue and ensures a higher standard of hygiene in the future. Until then, I'm hesitant to buy from here!

Ordered a large cod supper for partner plus large cod for me - received at best a small to medium sized cod with supper, a handful of chips and no minted peas, mine was ok. Usually great food, but not tonight

Honestamente nunca esperé tanto tiempo para comer. Estoy bastante seguro de que uno de mis artículos se perdió del pedido original, lo que significa que esperé aproximadamente 30 minutos para la cena de bacalao con un buñuelo de piña. Siempre ha sido sabroso, con las porciones de pescado de los niños cocinados frescos a la orden, y es una gran relación calidad-precio. El personal siempre ha sido agradable y amable también. Dondequiera que estemos en Cardiff, ahora hacemos un desvío para visitar el sitio de Pentwyn de camino a casa. Muy recomendable.

Food was never delivered. This isnt the restaurant's fault, it was the Just Eat driver's fault. I've requested a full refund but not had a response yet.

I had a big lump of gristle in my mouth from your chicken food was freezing driver was useless on the phone still have the food in boxes out garden will send pic if required with food still in them absolutely freezing chips didnt even taste cooked chicken horrendous didn't ask for code so I could have said I didn't recieve order I've only just got home from work hence late complaint lastnight u was to tired after waiting so long I knew it would be freezing

Mi amigo y yo hemos estado juntos en 3 ocasiones diferentes. La primera vez las patatas fritas estaban bastante bien y el curry irlandés que tengo fue impresionante. La segunda vez las patatas fritas estaban muy secas y ligeramente poco cocidas, mientras que el curry irlandés era agradable pero acuoso y delgado. La última vez muy recientemente las Chips no solo estaban secas y poco cocidas sino que pero la mayoría eran masticables. Si no tuviera tanta hambre no me lo habría comido. El curry irlandés era espeso y muy caliente. El problema es que no hay nada constante en la salsa Curry y las papas fritas son horribles. Aparte de eso el servicio estaba bien pero no volveré a ir allí hasta que se pongan las pilas

This is my 3rd visit to Fintans. The first time the Irish Curry was awesome and the chips good. the 2nd time the Iris curry was a lot watery but tasted ok, and the chips were very dry. Today the same curry was nice and thick but very hot. The chips were very dry and quite often very chewy, The chips were like trying to eat Leather. Sorry there is nothing consistent about this chippy and I wont be going back again until they sort out there awful chips. Probably using cheap potatoes.

Brilliant service when I arrived to pick up my fish and chips and discovered I’d ordered them to the wrong Fintans! Gentleman who served me quickly made up the order and even added a free curry sauce (Irish version- extremely tasty). The cod was beautifully cooked, the batter crisp and tasty, and the chips predictably delicious. Will be going back. But this time I’ll order to the right place!

normally love fish and chips from here. I had requested more vinegar in the order. food arrived and no salt or vinegar at all. chips were quite dry and slightly cold. I will try again as hoping it was an off day.

Fish chips curry sauce delicious 😋 But although I had note ,saying I’m disabled and asked if food could be delivered to door, driver rang and said he was here, but when I opened door I had to use my walking stick, in rain, to walk out to my gate to get bag from him 🤨

Fish and chip meal arrived 10mins early, was hot and taster, the curry sauce chosen was in a small carton but had a nice taste it was very thick and couldn’t be poured from the tub.. as it cooled it became a really really thick consistency so unable to eat. I would order again but not the curry sauce, delivery driver was friendly and polite

Sorry but the quality of the chips were terrible especially for the price we paid, grandaughter liked curry sauce but didn't finish it not very good at all seem like the chips were pre-cooked an warmed up didn't try the fish as again to expensive.

The chicken burger turned up in a stale roll, with nothing in it apart from a burger. The chip/cheese & gravy was spilling out the edge meaning it came very messy. Really disappointed, I didn’t finish it all.

I cannot believe the overall reviews on here .After eating fish n chips about 1 month ago we did a 30 mile round trip to fintans in Cardiff travelling from Cwmbran. Daniel(our server) was amazingly bubbly , polite and very professional. Having run pubs in the past I appreciate good service but we received better than that . Daniel offered many extra ideas to accompany our meal and his service was always with a genuine smile .A real asset to Fintans fish bar and we definitely will be returning we'll done Daniel excellent service and food was great

I wanted to leave this review as I was extremely happy with the service and food I got yesterday evening in this shop. Special shout out to the chef, who was so kind in our interaction and managed to cater for my gluten free diet without any issues (which is quite rare these days). Very happy with the place and will definitely go again very soon.

Whenever i got uber or delivero order they takes ages, I travelled 2 miles took me 10min be there but still took me 15m more to wait in restaurant staff is very rude with riders/drivers, always customer asking why took to long and hence we get bad feedback just bcz of yoy guys

Probably the worst fish and chips I've had. The fish was so clearly refried to heat it back up, the batter was chewy and extremely greasy. £2.95 for a bag of chips is an utterly ridiculous price for what is essentially 3-4 potatoes... Cost of the meal was extortionate for what was a really greasy, poorly cooked meal. Will stick to youngers next time.

Placed an online order for 2 pie and chips. Went to my designated time slot half an hour later to be met with, microwave or oven. I quizzed what for and was told the pies as he’d just sold the last ones. I queried why my order wasn’t fulfilled in time and correctly and no suitable response given. Had to opt for microwave as I’d paid online and guess what, got home and the pies were cold in the middle. Thanks Fintans. No longer a customer.

Took over an hour for food to get here to then see my chicken curry and chips is half the size of the container without chicken, the cheese burger ordered with curry came without.

i couldn't find more than dessert spoon of chicken in curry i never ate it.disgusted.

Food incorrectly prepared again - this has happened several occasions. Very poor service.

Mushy peas were completely MISSING. I also did not receive the burger as advertised. The burgers are advertised as coming with ONIONS, LETTUCE, TOMATOES, MAYONNAISE / KETCHUP. The burger literally had NOTHING - literally nothing at all. NO onions, NO lettuce, NO tomatoes, NO salad of any kind at all and NO SAUCE at all - literally NOTHING. Who on earth made this and have they even seen a burger in their life? It was a completely cold, totally dry overcooked burger fit for a dustbin placed in some bread that was falling apart and looked like it had come out of a bin - the bread wasn't even intact. The bun had also not been toasted or anything. The most embarassing thing I've ever received from any takeaway and not even fit for a dog. The fish and chips were also undercooked and had no salt or vinegar or anything.

Fish suppers Served in boxes . Feels expensive when you pay but portions are plentiful. Mushy peas Lethal on my tummy!
