Fintans Fish & Chip Co in Cardiff

I recently visited Washington machines outside the Chip shop and was quite disappointed by what I witnessed. While waiting outside, I saw a staff members taking a smoke break right outside the building. What concerned me most was that they were wearing their kitchen aprons and uniforms during this activity. This is not only off-putting but also breaches basic hygiene regulations. Wearing kitchen attire while smoking and outside the kitchen area is simply unacceptable, as it raises concerns about the cleanliness and safety of the food being prepared. I hope the management takes immediate action to address this issue and ensures a higher standard of hygiene in the future. Until then, I'm hesitant to buy from here!

Ordered a large cod supper for partner plus large cod for me - received at best a small to medium sized cod with supper, a handful of chips and no minted peas, mine was ok. Usually great food, but not tonight

Honestly never waited so long for food. I’m fairly confident that one of my items was missed off the original order, meaning that I waited roughly 30 mins for cod dinner with a pineapple fritter. Other people served well after me left long before me. The food was good, after I microwaved it when I got home (I live 3/4mins away from the shop). Last time I go there.

We've been using this place for a long while and don't usually have anything to complain about but the chips today were truly awful - hard and stale tasting, as if old oil had been used or yesterday's leftovers had been used. Went in the bin

I'm surprised to read some of the negative reviews on here, I started using Fintan's for a quick and easy tea for my family on our way home from trips to visit family in Cardiff, and to avoid using the 'big yellow arches' take-away, and can only praise the staff, the food and the service. It has always been tasty, with the children's fish portions cooked fresh to order, and it great value for money. The staff have always been pleasant and friendly too. Wherever we are in Cardiff, we now make a detour to visit the Pentwyn site on the way home. Highly recommended.

Have eaten from here many times but only second time doing takeaway/delivery was really disappointed the fish bites and chicken bites had been extremely over cooked batter was greasy and solid

Fish lovely but to many chips & some hard ones.

Food was never delivered. This isnt the restaurant's fault, it was the Just Eat driver's fault. I've requested a full refund but not had a response yet.

I had a big lump of gristle in my mouth from your chicken food was freezing driver was useless on the phone still have the food in boxes out garden will send pic if required with food still in them absolutely freezing chips didnt even taste cooked chicken horrendous didn't ask for code so I could have said I didn't recieve order I've only just got home from work hence late complaint lastnight u was to tired after waiting so long I knew it would be freezing

Fish was tiny, chips were cold and on top of the fish… £12 pfft

Me and my friend have been there together on 3 separate occasions. The first time the chips were fairly good and the Irish curry I has was Awesome. The second time the chips were very dry and slightly under cooked while the Irish curry was nice but watery and thin. The last time very recently the Chips were not only dry and under cooked but but most of them were chewy. If i wasn't so hungry I wouldn't have ate it. The Irish Curry was thick and very hot. The Problem is there is nothing constant about the Curry sauce and the chips are awful. Apart from that the service was fine but I won't be going there again until they get their act together

This is my 3rd visit to Fintans. The first time the Irish Curry was awesome and the chips good. the 2nd time the Iris curry was a lot watery but tasted ok, and the chips were very dry. Today the same curry was nice and thick but very hot. The chips were very dry and quite often very chewy, The chips were like trying to eat Leather. Sorry there is nothing consistent about this chippy and I wont be going back again until they sort out there awful chips. Probably using cheap potatoes.

The chips were awful. Dry and chewy! Very disappointing noting and spoiled a family get together.

Fish and chips 1 out of five.Its always a bit dodgey here but thought I would give it another go ,wish I hadn’t.I think they boiled the batter instead of frying it ,soggy as hell ,never again

Brilliant service when I arrived to pick up my fish and chips and discovered I’d ordered them to the wrong Fintans! Gentleman who served me quickly made up the order and even added a free curry sauce (Irish version- extremely tasty). The cod was beautifully cooked, the batter crisp and tasty, and the chips predictably delicious. Will be going back. But this time I’ll order to the right place!

normally love fish and chips from here. I had requested more vinegar in the order. food arrived and no salt or vinegar at all. chips were quite dry and slightly cold. I will try again as hoping it was an off day.

Food quality was fantastic, brilliant portion size. Great value for Money. Sadly the wait time was ridiculous .. more than one hour late which means I will not order from you again.

Absolutely abhorrent place to eat. Staff are liars and the food is absolutely diabolical. Sadly, I had to give it one star in order to review it. Otherwise it would’ve been zero. Very good chippy at reasonable price

Fish chips curry sauce delicious 😋 But although I had note ,saying I’m disabled and asked if food could be delivered to door, driver rang and said he was here, but when I opened door I had to use my walking stick, in rain, to walk out to my gate to get bag from him 🤨

Fish and chip meal arrived 10mins early, was hot and taster, the curry sauce chosen was in a small carton but had a nice taste it was very thick and couldn’t be poured from the tub.. as it cooled it became a really really thick consistency so unable to eat. I would order again but not the curry sauce, delivery driver was friendly and polite

Sorry but the quality of the chips were terrible especially for the price we paid, grandaughter liked curry sauce but didn't finish it not very good at all seem like the chips were pre-cooked an warmed up didn't try the fish as again to expensive.

The chicken burger turned up in a stale roll, with nothing in it apart from a burger. The chip/cheese & gravy was spilling out the edge meaning it came very messy. Really disappointed, I didn’t finish it all.

I cannot believe the overall reviews on here .After eating fish n chips about 1 month ago we did a 30 mile round trip to fintans in Cardiff travelling from Cwmbran. Daniel(our server) was amazingly bubbly , polite and very professional. Having run pubs in the past I appreciate good service but we received better than that . Daniel offered many extra ideas to accompany our meal and his service was always with a genuine smile .A real asset to Fintans fish bar and we definitely will be returning we'll done Daniel excellent service and food was great

I wanted to leave this review as I was extremely happy with the service and food I got yesterday evening in this shop. Special shout out to the chef, who was so kind in our interaction and managed to cater for my gluten free diet without any issues (which is quite rare these days). Very happy with the place and will definitely go again very soon.

Whenever i got uber or delivero order they takes ages, I travelled 2 miles took me 10min be there but still took me 15m more to wait in restaurant staff is very rude with riders/drivers, always customer asking why took to long and hence we get bad feedback just bcz of yoy guys

Placed an online order for 2 pie and chips. Went to my designated time slot half an hour later to be met with, microwave or oven. I quizzed what for and was told the pies as he’d just sold the last ones. I queried why my order wasn’t fulfilled in time and correctly and no suitable response given. Had to opt for microwave as I’d paid online and guess what, got home and the pies were cold in the middle. Thanks Fintans. No longer a customer.

Probably the worst fish and chips I've had. The fish was so clearly refried to heat it back up, the batter was chewy and extremely greasy. £2.95 for a bag of chips is an utterly ridiculous price for what is essentially 3-4 potatoes... Cost of the meal was extortionate for what was a really greasy, poorly cooked meal. Will stick to youngers next time.

ordered cod bites and chips - delivered with no chips!!!

Took over an hour for food to get here to then see my chicken curry and chips is half the size of the container without chicken, the cheese burger ordered with curry came without.

i couldn't find more than dessert spoon of chicken in curry i never ate it.disgusted.

Food incorrectly prepared again - this has happened several occasions. Very poor service.

Mushy peas were completely MISSING. I also did not receive the burger as advertised. The burgers are advertised as coming with ONIONS, LETTUCE, TOMATOES, MAYONNAISE / KETCHUP. The burger literally had NOTHING - literally nothing at all. NO onions, NO lettuce, NO tomatoes, NO salad of any kind at all and NO SAUCE at all - literally NOTHING. Who on earth made this and have they even seen a burger in their life? It was a completely cold, totally dry overcooked burger fit for a dustbin placed in some bread that was falling apart and looked like it had come out of a bin - the bread wasn't even intact. The bun had also not been toasted or anything. The most embarassing thing I've ever received from any takeaway and not even fit for a dog. The fish and chips were also undercooked and had no salt or vinegar or anything.

Fish suppers Served in boxes . Feels expensive when you pay but portions are plentiful. Mushy peas Lethal on my tummy!

I can highly recommend Fintans for the service we received as my mum Is a coaliac and has to eat Gluten free. Amazing service and the cleanliness is superb. Staff are really friendly and helpful.

Requested salt and vinegar on our chips from the chip shop, but didn’t have any - this is the second time we didn’t get any.

We are Brit expats on visit from France, dying for REAL fish and chips. They have no idea in rural France, where we live. We knew that this f&c shop was virtually takeaway only, but we were able to sit down to eat our takeaways. The batter on the chips was spot-on crunchy. The chips were just right, could have been a bit more crispy, but matter of taste as swmbo declared them perfect.

Very disappointed with our food tonight , the corned beef pastie was stale and hard completely uneatable, popcorn chicken was dry and very hard to bite into and my king prawns with chilli dip were tasteless , positives the chips were lovely , rissoles were good and the fruity curry sauce was excellent.

They have an amazing menu and the chips are awesome

I use Fintans ( even though it is more expensive) because side the fish is usually delicious; light crispy batter & well cooked fish. Unfortunately The fish this evening was neither! It was ‘soggy’ and tasteless. The chips were lovely.

The fish was mis-described as 'large' and it was half the size of my local chippy. The tiny portion of chips were like scrumps and the curry was like water. Disgusted! Never again. I'll put the same review on the web.

Ordered nearly £40 worth of food, portions are extremely small for the price, Whilst eating a chicken curry rice and chips I assumed I had a chicken bone in my mouth which had pierced my gum, nope not a chicken bone but a metal staple. Couldn’t finish the food for obvious reasons and had to stop the rest of the family from eating also. Shocking

Excellent quality, probably the best fish and chips you're going to find anywhere. The Haddock was not in stock so I went for the homemade fish cakes. You get 2 in the portion and they were the best fishcakes I'd ever had from a chippie.

Extremely poor portion for the taveners chicken , I’ve had it before and it’s been excellent, but this time there was barely any cheese and not worth £9.50( price had increased since last purchase also )

The delivery was a little late. The food quality was good but unfortunately it was a bit cold which is disappointing, considering I don’t live that far away. Perhaps it was cooked early. Overall a pretty good service and tasty - just a shame the food wasn’t quite hot enough.
