Finsbay in East Dunbartonshire

A nice place for an evening meal. There was four in our party and we were seated promptly and served drinks quickly. A short review of a wonderfully limited but connected menu and we all picked the same dish with variations. The haggis bons bons were the bomb! As was the tempura prawn.

Fabulous! Had a fabulous lunch in Finsbay Milngavie yesterday. The reviews I had seen, were a bit mixed, so wasn't sure what to expect, however we had a fantastic experience, with great food and service. Ross and his staff were very attentive even though it was quite busy and nothing was a problem to them. The decor was nice, it has a mix of customers and your dog is also welcome. I would highly recommend and will definitely return. The Flatiron steak with king prawns and peppercorn sauce was the star of the show.

The food wasn’t bad - fish and chips went down well, but the service was really bad - staff not on the ball at all. We might have ordered more food and drinks if we’d actually been asked. We had to ask for the lunch menus (which were initially refused and no offer of anything for a toddler.) I asked to order drinks, ask for the bill and then stood around with coats on waiting for the card machine while staff chatted at the bar. They seemed a bit lost/undirected under a manager who avoided eye contact between being glued to his phone and laptop. Having worked in the service industry myself for decades, it’s pretty frustrating to have an experience like this no matter how busy you claim to be. Hopefully just a bad day for them but I’ll be spending my money elsewhere in future. *** In response to this manager’s reply, he is outright gaslighting and lying. If you Google him, it seems to be a pattern of poor customer service wherever he’s worked. Concerning. You’d think people running an establishment would be able to take some constructive criticism and want to improve. It appears not. Good luck with him. 😂

We had a fantastic family meal, the food was delicious and staff very helpful. We will return soon as the whole experience made for a great night!

Chicken tenders were tough. So called chips with truffle oil and parmesan were in fact frozen french fries only lightly fried with an unknown cheese melted on top. Very disappointing. Doubt I would go back.

No starters ?? Who knows Steak undercooked. Miserable looking rocket. Togarashi greens - veg tasted unwashed. Disgusting dish. Dessert - cheapest ice cream

Disappointing experience overall. There was a 45 minute wait for food despite there being only a few other customers. We were not told about the specials available or the promotions that were on at the time. We also had to ask for our bill after waiting quite a while and one drink came in a dirty glass. You could hear staff arguing/ discussing weekend plans from the bar area. The menu was not the same as online. The mac and cheese was advertised as vegetarian yet was served with pancetta and beef fat chips. I added the gochuyang prawns which weren’t worth the extra £4. The truffle fries were also mediocre. Won’t be back.

Visited for coffee and cake with a friend. Staff are lovely and couldn’t be any more helpful. Unfortunately they have changed plant milk suppliers, and the new milks are poor quality. I ordered a coconut milk latte and had to send it back as it was really unpleasant. I used to enjoy Alpro milks on my visits, the new supplier milks are poor quality and unappetising. Strangely, the coffees appeared in large drinks glasses with no handles? My friend had to use a napkin to prevent her hands being burned when holding the glass. This is bizarre, coffee in latte cups or coffee cups please. Yes, in Italy lattes are served in the morning in drinks glasses, but the difference is the lattes are traditionally served luke warm there, not piping hot as is the case in Finsbay. Therefore drinking glasses are not advisable for serving really hot coffee in.

Lovely cosy place with a varied menu, great atmosphere and really excellent service with a warm welcome. Very reasonably priced for superb quality and freshly prepared food. And.. dog friendly too! Will definitely be back!

New menu is nice. Flat iron steaks were really good and cooked lovely. Had some Parmesan and truffle fries with some spicy slaw. Kids macaroni was good too. New manager is nice and all over everything. The waitress who served us was attentive and lovely. They made a fuss of my daughter too. Much better than a few months ago. It was nice and cosy and had a lovely atmosphere.

First visit to Finsbay as a Birthday treat from the other half. Couple of Flatiron Steaks for me and the Mrs (I recommend the spiced one) and some mac and cheese for the daughter - Incredibly well priced and Steak was perfectly cooked. Some sides of chips and Tempura Prawns complimented the main meals perfectly. Lovely, relaxed venue and service was great, had a poorly lit table initially and that was rectified promptly and efficiently when noted. We had pre paid for a voucher, which created some problems with the Till, but rather than make a fuss, or create a proposal that didn't work well for us, the manager (Adi) was extremely reasonable and made sure we were not put out. We also received some amazing vouchers on their recently created leaflet for a return visit - so we will definitely be back to sample their cuisine again - fantastic value for money and clearly well led by Adi who went above and beyond for our visit on a super busy day.

Four of us visited today for lunch with our two dogs, hence the reason we went as it was dog friendly which is great and the ambiance is very good. We ordered four steak sandwiches from the Brunch menu and have to say we appreciate the food is cooked freshly to order we did have to wait quite a long time for them and had to ask when we would be getting them. When they did arrive they were very “pink” which was okay for three of us but had to ask for one of them to be cooked more. It was taken away and brought back very quickly only to find the bread had been toasted more but the steak still “pink”. We once again called one of the staff and she said all the steak sandwiches were cooked medium to rare BUT nowhere on the menu does it say this and we were not told this on ordering. We were asked if we wanted it to be cooked again or a new one or something else but as three of us were nearly finished we said no. We were not charged for this sandwich. It would not stop us going again but maybe could suggest on the menu it says how the steak is cooked so you could ask for it well done if wanted or if not choose something else.

Amazing lunch, had the steak sandwich (ciabatta) and wow ! So much flavour and extremely tasty!! Washed down with a lovely pint of Madri !

Lunch special on a quiet Wednesday. We came from an instagram post (which we later realised was from the west end location) but the staff accommodated us anyway and served us this incredible steak sandwich lunch special. Thanks team! We will be back

Had the most fantastic meal tonight. Flat iron steak, truffle and parmigiano chips and spicy veg. Followed by lemon tart and icecream. The service was slick, servers were friendly and knowledgeable. Food was really fantastic. Hot, flavourful and presented well. Will definitely be back, soon.

Our first visit since Finsbay was renovated earlier this year and they have done a lovely job of that. An inviting spacious and comfortable place to be with nice decor. Very relaxed and peaceful ambiance. We both had the excellent signature flatiron steaks, which were fantastic portions and cooked to medium rare perfection. Very tasty I enjoyed the satay sauce with mine, my partner had her's without sauce and she loved how tasty it was. As sides we had the hand cut chips in beef fat - superb tasted like roasties and tempura prawns, nice big prawns with a sweet chilli dip. Finished off with home made sticky toffee pudding and ice cream - very tasty and the perfect end to the meal on a cool wet autumnal day. Went home happy, satisfied with excellent quality, portions and cost of meal. Will definitely be back and happy to recommend.

Lovely staff who couldn’t be more helpful, great food, we all had the signature flat iron steak and it was cooked to perfection! Sides were all very good sauces were great. All in all great value for both food and drinks with a lot of mid week offers to be had that we shall be going back to try. My only gripe please add some mashed potatoes to your sides menu 😊

The Finsbay is under new management and sorry guys you are making a mess of what used to be a great place to eat. We were there yesterday. The menu choice was not nearly as varied as it used to be. My wife said her choice was ok. I had a chicken burger and chips. It was eatable however a piece of fried chicken dipped in buffalo sauce with one thin slice of tomato, a gherkin the size of a toddlers pinkie and a slimy leaf of wilted lettuce on a bun with chips wasn’t good for £14. Ridiculous really. Macdonald’s do a superior burger with more ingredients and far tastier for less than half that price. The quality of food is nowhere near the standard it was before. I did speak with the manager and explained why I didn’t like the lunch too. No offer of discount was made. The place used to be buzzing even on a Wednesday afternoon, not now though. I really wish their management fix the issues on menu selection, food quality and ridiculous price because I want them to be successful in a tough business these days. I hope they are listening because the good people of the area deserves better than this and I know they can do better. I don’t want this restaurant to close over fixable issues. We won’t be going to this restaurant again until they improve the menu, quality of food and get a handle on the ridiculous prices.

Used to love this place and visit regularly, but after the remodel our last couple of meals here have been so bad it is almost comical. The service is slow and you're lucky if drinks arrive before food. This time we ordered a large vegetable tempura for starters, but the extra fiver seems to only add a small cup of unseasoned al dente chips to it. I would advise that you don't order sides with the Mac n Cheese, as it turns out it gets mixed into it as we found with our side of broccoli. Dread to think what abomination you get if you order a side of Rumbledthumps with your Mac. Thought I'd give this a second chance but won't be back now.

Place is getting worse and worse. Phoned and booked a table last week for today. Turned up and the restaurant was shut. Nobody tried to contact me let us know. Owners and management don’t have a clue. Avoid at all costs.

We are from the area and typically go to Finsbay about two-three times per year. A week ago, we ordered veggie soup. When the order came, we were rather shocked: the bowls were extremely tiny but that did not necessarily bother us - what Finsbay now calls veggie soup is curried vegetable broth with no trace of any vegetable in it whatsoever! In short, the soup was inedible. Very disappointed-it seems that standards have gone down at what used to be a really nice place.

I enjoy finsbay I think I preferred the menu before the recent refurbishment. I prefer the atmosphere at there sister venue "full backs" around the corner

This was our first and last visit While our meal was edible it was very disappointing. The prawn cocktail had no tomatoes (as listed on the menu). The sea bass special was too much potato (slightly squashed baked potatoes) and too little sea bass and the sauce was completely tasteless. I didn’t think you could go wrong with a Caesar salad but I was wrong! Rocket and baby gem lettuce with tomato and cucumber? It should be cos lettuce, homemade croutons, parmigiana, Caesar dressing. I added chicken which was perfectly cooked and the only really decent part of the meal. The side order of French fries was overloaded with salt and completely inedible. The whole place felt dirty and grubby with the napkins sticking to the table I know that we should have complained at the time but I honestly don’t think it would have made any difference. I also feel that an honest review is better than no review

Customer service outstanding! Food delicious and great atmosphere. We had a slight issue with items not being available on an itison voucher we had, so our meal was comped. We were very surprised. The food we did have was lovely and fresh and drinks selection was great. Definitely looking forward to coming back next month for our itison meal.

Absolutely shocking experience at Finsbay - have been before and loved in the past, however, today was completely different to what we’ve experienced before. 45 minute wait for food, no staff checking how we were or explaining why we had this wait, 20 minute wait for drinks and disinterested staff when I said I didn’t enjoy my salad. Even though my salad and one of the guests’ burgers were taken off, we would’ve appreciated an apology or to speak to the staff rather than just it taken off. Will not be back unless there’s a serious improvement.

Not the best experience from start to finish. We arrived 10 mins before our booking and waited 30 minutes before a drinks order was taken (had to prompt the staff to take our order). When we arrived, the restaurant was half full, whilst it quickly filled up, people who arrived later than us had been served before us. Food arrived before our drinks and wasn't what we had ordered so had to send back. Food wasn't the best quality. Waiter was also rude to my partner when he asked for condiments for his meal.

Visited the newly refurbished Finsbay, which we were frequent visitors to in the past. Unfortunately the food we had last night was not very good. The cullen skink was not too bad, but both our main courses were disappointing. I had a steak pie, which the pastry was tough and had oregano sprinkled on top. Also, I had to pay extra for fries. My wife had a salmon curry that still had the skin on. We also tried to order expresso martinis, but the coffee machine was not working, which I understand can happen. A lot of favourite dishes not on menu, fish and chips, loaded fries etc. Service was good.

Had a reservation, travelled over to Milngavie for our booking only to find it closed for refurbishment. We were never notified that it would be closed and left disappointed. Sent a couple of emails on this to the team to find out what happened but no responses to date. If we got a reply with an explanation that would have been good but nothing so left with no choice but to leave feedback on our experience.

Booked a table Thursday 3rd Nov. After reading the good reviews and how dog friendly the place was. If dog friendly means they let you take the dog in and sit a table close to draughty door, that is correct. Food dire my daughter had Finsbay burger that was totally burnt, Stornoway black pudding was like charcoal and both totally inedible. My fish supper was massive but terrible with soggy batter and soggy fish which tasted like Bassa, chips was the only thing that was good. Not even worth going to if you want in from the cold as it was just as cold inside. We will not be back.

Delicous food, good beer, very friendly staff

Had an amazing breakfast / brunch with daughter yesterday- the 'eggs blasda' were eggsellent ( toasted sourdough bread + poached eggs + smoked salmon + crushed avocado etc.) Along with fine tea and coffee...and many thanks to Billy and the dark haired server lady .., cannot remember her name.., for the fabulous overall dining experience..! Will definitely be back again...👍👍

A popular local place at the center of Milngavie, not far from the starting point of the West Highlands Way. We stopped here for a short coffee break the night before starting our hike, wonderful warm cosy atmosphere.

This place has always suffered from the same problem. The service is atrocious. They just can't solve it, even after all these years they have been open. Tried again tonight. Shouldn't have bothered. Nobody came to take our order, take drinks order or anything. The staff were busy clearing tables which isn't important when there are lots of clean empty tables. We just voted with our feet and left. Went to Garvies restaurant instead. Got served immediately.

Excellent brunch like no other! Took my daughter out for breakfast to celebrate her end of school/exams and was not disappointed. Food was of a high quality as was the coffee. Service was great too - not been before but will certainly be back!

Really good - menu not hugely extensive, but all food delicious and portions very generous. Staff excellent and very good value. Update: July 2022 - some great new items on the menu, staff excellent again, good range of draught beers and cocktails, great value.
