Really nice coffee shop. When we walked in we were greeted by the smell of freshly roasted coffee... mmm! Interesting decor and comfy places to sit. There were six of us but we managed to find an eclectic group of chairs for a chat over their lovely coffee and drinks. Our friends decided to say for some food.

Renamed the Corner now! It's a lovely place inside, beautifully decorated. Dog friendly, although you do get the odd owner who thinks it is OK that their dog whines constantly for an hour. Breakfast is excellent, full Welsh very tasty, the only thing is that drinks and toast are extra, so for a full breakfast you are talking £13+ which is pushing it a bit!

Booked a lunch for my mother (wheel chair bound) and family for a Saturday lunch. The restaurant part is in the back of a coffee house/ cafe so we had no great expectations but were pleasantly surprised. Staff were friendly and attentive, menu was reasonably priced with a fair selection. Food was served promptly and efficiently and of a decent quality, Mum & I had the tapas, a few had the burgers and the rest had pub style food. It was all good. The menu isn’t huge, but what they had was fresh and well cooked. The owner/manager was excellent and we all enjoyed it. There was a 10% service charged added (there was 8 of us) and I thought it worthy of a small additional tip. Definitely worth a visit.

In this quirky venue just off Roath lake they serve the most peculiar of drinks, the smell resembles that of charcoaled embers. It has an unusual BITTER taste, much like that of when you're dads burnt the sausages on the BBQ. They serve it with hot milk, frothy milk, or on its own. It's not cheap but well worth a try if you're looking for the next "unique" fad. They call it coffee...how ironic

We popped in as it's one of the few places in Cardiff who accept dogs, and in such a convenient location by the lake. the atmosphere was lovely with many dogs in there. Only thing i'd say is that it shouldn't be serving food, for one thing its a bit of a strange selection of food - it's almost like a dinner menu served all day, where you'd expect an establishment like this to serve things such as sandwiches, jacket potatoes... more cafe like food. Unfortunately, I ordered the chicken butterfly, it all tasted like water, absolutely no taste to the chicken, veg or the sauce which was really disappointing. So much, I had to stop eating as it was just unpleasant. Nevertheless, the milkshakes and coffees were really nice so go for the coffee, but not for food.

Has changed name . But atmosphere remains the same. We both had Mussels mariner but the fish delivery had not been received so I had to have a starter portion rather than a main course portion. I felt that the mussels were on the small side and also no whole meal bread available just brown sliced which is not really whole grain . The taste was good , and the service was very good.

This unassuming looking café - restaurant is a half hour walk from our house, through nearby pretty Roath Park, so is very handy. It makes a welcoming stop off for anything from a coffee and cake to Tapas or steak, depending on the time of day. The atmosphere is informal and welcoming and we particularly like that we can bring the dogs and tuck them under the table whilst we eat. The menu is not very extensive but all the food we have eaten there has been good and service is also fine. We can recommend the house Merlot if you fancy a drink too. Check opening times if planning to visit in the evening as they only open in the evenings on certain nights. Prices are fair.

Went this morning with our son. Great atmosphere and well frequented. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Meeting a colleague for breakfast. The coffee was good and the staff very helpful. What was odd was the price difference between some of the breakfast dishes. So the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs (which was good) was way more expensive than another dish of similar make up. Still the food was good.

We stopped in for some coffee and drinks as it said it was dog friendly and we were out walking with our dog. It was a lucky find, the service was great and they were very helpful and our dog was allowed inside. Took my parents here as I j ew that digs were allowed in the coffee shop at the front. We ended up sitting in the resteruant and putting the dog in the car for a bit, which wasn't a problem. Starters were fantastic. I had the Palmer ham with truffle shavings which took the dish to the next level. The main course beef was so tender and the roasties where fantastic! Although we were a little late for breakfast (finishes at 11.00) they did seem a bit pricey at £9.95 for Salmon and scrambled eggs as when you add a coffee it works out at £25 for 2 people.Friendly staff and a pleasant environment that's well behaved dog friendly made for an overall very good experience.

Having just returned from a period overseas, it was great to see a new business had opened just around the corner. The place is pretty cool but the service needs to be looked at. It took over 20 mins to get our coffee and cake, and a couple who came in after us, got served before us. The chap serving was very friendly but two of him would have made all the difference - this seems to be a bit of a theme with other comments. We will come again and really hope the business succeeds.

Decided to stop and have a coffee with the mutt. Lovely little place and a friendly welcome! Decided on a latte and was told about the options for lunch. Chose the cheese on toast, as wasn't that hungry. (Crackin tapas dishes were also available) It was a taste sensation! The chutney that came with it made the dish, which I was told was homemade. Stayed for another latte and a piece of carrot cake. Will defo return. Highly recommended! Top

Field of Beans is a unique café/coffee shop located in a lovely part of Cardiff - very close to the green spaces of the much sought after Roath Park area. It is attached to, and within the same building as the Fish and Field restaurant (the two are inter-connected) which can also be accessed from Wedal Road. Car parking is on road usually in Wedal Road (which gets busy) and/or on Lake Road West or its side roads. Short walk then to the premises. Otherwise, it is very well placed for people to visit in conjunction with a walk around Roath Park. I think it is also dog-friendly. The Field of Beans coffee shop has very recently been tastefully extended into the area previously taken up by its sister restaurant. This means that customers can now enjoy more seating (traditional tables and comfy armchairs and sofas - take your pick). The recent re-modelling now means the coffee shop bar is longer and faces a different way than previously which means access is improved. The main seating area also incorporates a large fish tank full of tropical fish. Great for customers to unwind to and to keep the kids entertained in particular. All, in my view, welcome improvements. The coffee shop benefits from some large window space, through which customers can enjoy interesting outlooks onto the nearby and very pleasant Roath Park/ Fairoak roundabout areas. The coffee shop serves cakes and light snacks. Not actually eaten there but seen some good looking dishes (eg cheese on toast and cakes) being served to other tables. Coffees are fresh and tasty, being competitively priced. Service is very good. Always a warm welcome from the staff who take the time to have a chat. All-in-all, a very good choice for coffee. Somewhere a bit different from the usual coffee chains. Not sure if wheelchair users can better enter via the restaurant door in Wedal Road?

Went in late afternoon for 3 kids hot chocolates, 1 tea, 1 coffee and 2 flap jacks. 10 mins at least to order, was offered a flap jack left out on counter on an oily napkin for all to cough and splutter on - I refused and asked if there were fresh ones. Was dully shown the prepackaged flap jacks. Once order made it was over 30 mins till drinks started arriving. 3 baby chinos - not ordered. 1 coffee, explained it was 3 hot chocolates. Lots of apologies, took away along with the tea which we asked back. Kids eventually got their hot chocs ( with some mini marshmallows fully explained were added as an extra REALLY - was that supposed to be a bonus!!) then we reminded them that we have still not got the flap jacks. Although I explained that we were unhappy with the service, and it was now starting to get dark. It was "very sorry, must sort out the staff and please come back". Not good enough, that order was more than £16.00 expensive for what it was. Asmall gesture of an extra flap jack or take a little something off the bill would encourage return custom. I work in a customer service environment and I am afraid they have much to learn... If they survive ??? On a plus side the drinks were very good and tasty, so an uplift of the service could get field of beans back on track. Good look it will be a while if ever I return.

I recently visited this café which not only served a variety of breakfast and brunch options but also offered what I can confidently say was the best coffee I had during my time in Cardiff. I opted for a black Americano, but it was clear they took their coffee seriously, with an evident dedication to quality that shone through in every sip. The beans were expertly brewed, resulting in a rich, well-balanced flavour profile that highlighted the nuances of the coffee without being overshadowed by bitterness. It’s refreshing to find a place that genuinely cares about the craft of coffee-making. The atmosphere of the café complemented the experience beautifully. With its vintage chairs, wall-mounted artwork that added an artistic touch, and an overall relaxed décor, the space had a distinct hipster vibe that made it inviting. It’s the perfect setting for enjoying a good coffee, whether you’re looking to engage in conversation with friends or simply unwind with a book. If you’re in Cardiff and searching for a place that values quality coffee in a charming environment, this café is definitely worth a visit.
