Fern in Croydon

Lovely location, great food, an amazing place to relax and the staff....simply excellent! Giuditta...the best with excellent skills in customer service. Would definitely recommend 👌

My recent experience at Fern Bar was deeply unsatisfactory and warrants immediate attention. The hostess, a woman with long hair, displayed unprofessional and hostile behavior, seemingly intent on withholding superior tables from us without any reasonable justification. Despite the mandatory service fee, her actions made it abundantly clear that our presence was unwelcome, as she continually rushed us throughout the evening, effectively ruining our date night. Moreover, her conduct was entirely inappropriate, as she openly flirted with my boyfriend, which was both unprofessional and highly uncomfortable. Such behavior reflects poorly on the establishment’s standards of service. To be fair, the rest of the servers were courteous and professional, which made the contrast in behavior even more glaring. To further compound the situation, the kitchen closes unreasonably early, and the bar offers a disappointingly limited selection of alcoholic beverages. The cocktails we tried were poorly crafted and did not reflect the level of quality one would expect from a venue of this nature. In conclusion, Fern Bar failed to meet even the most basic expectations of service, and I strongly advise others to consider nicer hostess , more welcoming atmosphere.

Friendly staff, food was ok. Waitress had to explain the menu from the outset, which the owners should take on board and maybe revise their menu's presentation (basically, its tapas)!? Also, being told that she would choose our sides based on our menu choices was uwelcome.

A friend of mine brought me here as she raved about the food. Conveniently situated close to East Croydon station, I loved the decor of the place. Our server was very attentive and friendly, the food was delicious and came out promptly. Sadly something I wanted on the menu wasn't available. Unfortunately there were a rowdy bunch of people near us which took away the full effect of what Fern had to offer. But overall, will definitely be coming back again.

Went to fern last Sunday to get a roast and it was incredible- both the food and the atmosphere. The staff were also incredibly polite and attentive, really made a difference to the meal. Shout out to our waiter-jack, I believe, so wonderful and polite.

We had a wonderful evening! It's my second time there but this time was much much better! Cassandra was super lovely and looked after us very well. The Italian host (I didn't catch her name) is very welcoming, friendly and efficient. Very well done FERN!

Lovely place, the vines, ambience and atmosphere of the place is brilliant, more than that the service of the staff is one-of-a-kind lovely and attentive especially the server Mary, she was very attentive and helpful as well as helpful with suggestions of what I should try. Mary was also very easy to chat with. Great to see unobtrusive and attentive service. Will definitely be back!

We came here for a special occasion and food and drinks were amazing, lived up to its beautiful interiors and would defo come back for more! Judy has been so delightful and bubbly, her recommendations for how much to order and the dishes to order were on point! Totally floated all our boats! Loved it!

It's nice to have such a decent place amidst all the chaos of East Croydon station! Had a decent beer (Jute by Salt), venison sausages (good), scallops (excellent) and the potatoes (more than enough to share). Excellent service too. Quite pricey but the dishes are quite generous.

Have been passing this restaurant for some time and then decided to pop in for an impromptu Saturday lunch. The food and service were excellent. It's a small plates set up and we ordered the Oysters, Scallops, Prawns, Foccacia, venison sausages, crispy potatoes and a salad dish and all of the food was amazing. Full of flavour and very moreish. With a bottle of house white to wash it all down I can honestly say it was the best food I've had for a while. Service was great and we will definitely be returning. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for and the quality was well up there.

Great restaurant and cafe. I visit regularly especially for a good cup of coffee. Mary makes the most delicious coffee ever. The environment is lovely, great music and relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend it.

Came here with friends this evening after reserving a table earlier in the day. There was no direction on if we were supposed to wait to be seated or where to stand etc so we waited by the long table right in front of the doors. After about 3 minutes we were approached by a member of staff who then directed us to somebody else who seated us. After giving our menu choices we waited just over 30 minutes for the food to arrive, and we were shocked by the portion sizes - they were really small - £14 for 4 standard sized meatballs...??? Once the food was served we were never again approached by anybody at all - we had to ask someone over for a round of drinks and that was 1.5hrs later - which took a further 20 minutes to arrive (there were only 4 of us). The food tasted absolutely lovely but this place is let down by its very slow service and lack of attention to detail by the servers. We came here a few months back for breakfast but left the food untouched as it was inedible and again the service was very slow but the person in charge was very reasonable and let us have the drinks for free.

We decided to try the new Sunday menu as we have been a few times for dinner and it did not disappoint. We got the roast dinner for two, which was extremely filling and delicious. The lamb was phenomenal! Henry looked after us and ensured we always had a drink in hand! We will definitely be going back.

My partner and I visited Fern for the first time and were blown away by the quality of our experience. The restaurant space itself is stunning; we particularly loved the stylish moss green sofas which were very comfortable. Everyone we met, from their leadership team to our friendly waitress Cassandra, was so warm and welcoming. The Fern team truly demonstrates what it means to deliver genuine and authentic service excellence. Furthermore, the food and drinks quality was impeccable and well worth the cost. It wasn't available in the review options but, in addition to the duck breast and crispy potatoes, we'd highly recommend the venison sausage and creamy parmesan polenta - the latter of which truly brought the whole meal together. Big thank you to the Fern team, FOH and BOH, for a great experience! We look forward to visiting again soon.

My husband and I love this place.. we love the food and drinks it’s really good. Especially Mary one the kind and sweet staff in Fern we love her cocktails and coffee everytime we visit in this place.

My favourite office for the day! The food is yummy and sophisticated and Fern offers a good deal for people hot-desking there. Staff is extremely friendly and I love working there for the day. Great for Croydon to have places such as Fern and I hope to seem more like these opening up in our area!

A true gem in Croydon. Beautiful atmosphere, classy but casual. All the food was excellent, some of the menu items we tried were new takes on things and it was an all-round good experience. You don’t find a lot of nice places like this in Croydon that’s for sure. Solid 7.9/10

We chose this place for our anniversary dinner and were not disappointed. The food we had was delicious, the cocktails were made to perfection. Special thanks to the waiter Henry, the service was unobtrusive and attentive. We will definitely be back, it is a great find in Croydon.

Without a booking I was seated in a dark corner while most of the other tables were free. Music was way too loud. Toast of avo and eggs was awful unfortunately. Service was good -this is the only reason I'm giving it 2 starts but £20 for the unpleasant breakfast is obviously not worth it.

Jack, the Head Waiter, was exceptionally knowledgeable about the food; considerate (we got a larger table because I had banjaxed my ankle and had a crutch); was confident and personable in his service; and basically had the floor in his hands (we watched him charm and impress every table). As a trained butler and experienced maitre d', I judged his service to be of an exceptional and rare standard that would not be out of place in high end hospitality. He's an asset to Fern.

Top notch, best of its kind. Great food, look for Judi for a run through of the menu, and you'll have your best meal in town.

Have only visited for drinks on two separate occasions, yet to try their food but the ambience is great. Great spot for a date if visiting in the evening, the dim lights are perfect.

I had breakfast here with my friend. The breakfast was really tasty (I had hashbrowns with eggs and chorizo.) My only complaint was that we ordered two bottles of water for the table and were charged 10 pounds for the two bottles of water! It seemed a bit excessive! Next time I come we will remember to order tap water.

My lunch with friends at Fern was thoroughly enjoyable. Stand-out service especially from our server Jake. Friendly, attentive and he checked with the kitchen on my requested vegan options. The food was delicious as were the cocktails (the margarita verde was amazing). A stylish and classy venue opposite East Croydon station. Highly recommended.

Great staff and drinks were good too. Food was ridiculously expensive, didn’t taste that great, hardly any good carb or meat options. Our whole meal was £200 and we hardly ate anything!! And worst part is that ALL three of us had food poisoning from our meal. Ridiculous! Update: the corporate team reached out to me to ask what happened then ignored my response. Very unprofessional!

What a great find in Croydon! Green lasagna, mustard chicken & cabbage dish was divine. Generous portions & the place is so lovely! If you’re around the area, give this place a visit.

This place in not only beautiful but the food is just as delicious. Super impressed that I went there for my work too. You have to pay £5 to sit there & use their internet however they give you a free drinks which you mean you can have their coffee whilst working. For me personally that coffee was the best as compared to any other coffee shop. You won’t be disappointed .

I’ve visited Fern a few times and I absolutely love the cocktail menu, I always try something different and I’m never disappointed, very versatile so there will definitely be something for everyone! We definitely need more places like this in Croydon!

Jack was a fantastic host and server. He knew so much and was attentive and polite! Great meal and experience. The Managers cocktail (green margarita?) was out of this world. Fresh and clean on a hot day.

So the food/kitchen is top class, really nice tasty food, great options for veg and non alike. Problem is Fern is let down by the service, my partners meal was delivered to another table, it then took 30mins (now 1hr since order) to get the replacement, my meal was cold now. The server offered us a glasses of wine each of what we were drinking, but what was delivered was not the same. They did take the delayed item off the bill, but the whole experience left us pretty sour. I would give 1 star for service, but being told thats too harsh. The meal going to the incorrect table is simply wrong, the servers job is to know what table has what meals, so yes the fault is solely on the server, shame as the kitchen did such a great job.

I was challenged to try this restaurant by an ex colleague we used to work for a well-known restaurant in London. I have been told that they have dishes from different countries, but they are made in different ways but maintaining the flavour that these dishes must have. I wasn't sure about this, firstly because it's in Croydon and I've never found any restaurant that impressed me here. Secondly, because I'm an advocate of keeping the original recipe, and I'm not a huge fan of fusion cousin when it comes to renowned dishes. But I accepted the challenge, and off I went to discover this new space. First impression, I thought it was a small space, I thought it would be more spacious given the building it is located in. It didn't impress me at all... but quickly, my first impression changed! The host (Italian lady) affability when welcoming us was the starting point for an excellent experience. We had a reserved table, but it was next to a large window where the sun was hitting, I immediately thought "this table is going to be like being in a sauna" but the host quickly understood that I was uncomfortable with that and offered us another table. The table was next to the kitchen door, at first we didn't mind, but then with the staff coming in and out it ends up leaving you a little out of place, so we asked the waitress if we could move, again ups, to another table, with a smile he said yes! In other restaurants, there might not be as much flexibility. That's why, from the host to the staff, 5 stars! Excellent service, friendly staff, they explain well how the menu works as well as what the dishes consist of. About the food... First, unfortunately, not all the dishes I wanted to try were available. But the most important one was 😅. An amateur cook 🫣 who doesn't like these kinds of revamps of already perfect dishes... I was extremely surprised!! What a wonderful experience. The flavours and textures were perfect. Bacalhau à Brás was my purpose for coming to this restaurant. And it was fantastic!! This very traditional dish from Portugal, when I saw how it was served, I got a bit surprised because it didn't look like the traditional dish at all, but after tasting it, my goodness! What a delight! It is made different from the traditional way but with an excellent flavour combination. It tastes better than it looks. Congratulations to the Chef! This revamp of this dish was "refreshing" and made it light to enjoy. I loved every piece so much that I ordered it twice! The Crispy potatoes were on point, the prawns with pesto too. We try the chicken with honey and yoghurt and is a jump directly to the Mediterranean!! Fantastic flavour! The dessert was interesting but it was the only bit that didn't surprise me but it was good. My partner ordered the cheese board, and Woooww, it was very well served and good quality. The restaurant has an excellent wine menu, we ordered Portuguese Vinho Verde Alvarinho wine, but the price is high for this bottle! (Azevedo) It's not the best Alvarinho out there. To go with dessert, we ordered a prosecco without asking any specific, which was extremely good, we decided to order a second, but it was clearly not from the same bottle! But it didn't disappoint. Every time I asked about something related to the dish, or the bottles, etc... whether the staff or the host were excellent and knew how to respond accurately, they clearly familiarised with what they were offering. And to finish, the Limoncello offered by the host was the icing on top of the cake. The host even gave us vacation tips in Italy! I loved the experience, and it certainly doesn't even feel like we're in Croydon I felt that I was in central London, joying dinner in one top restaurant. I will definitely come back!! 🙂

Since coming to Fern Croydon, we have enjoyed the ambience, quality wines and food. But the most positive thing about Fern is the warm reception and great customer service we receive from Mary. She is professional, polite and very welcoming. She is actually one of the reasons we keep returning as she always makes our experience enjoyable and delightful.

We went on 5 October and had lunch. I am vegetarian and there were many options unlike other places and the food was delicious - padron peppers among other things… We then moved to the bar and had Passion Fruit Spritz and I believe the other drink was Seedlip Spritz… nice alternatives to my favourite Aperol Spritz! All staff were really friendly and very attentive! It’s worth the visit - plus it’s near the train station which is a plus. I will be coming back again and soon…

I am in love with everything about FERN. The service was excellent, so friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing!!! Had the oysters, scallops, duck, watermelon salad, sweet potatoes.... Cannot explain the standard to be honest. I cannot wait to go again. Great vibes, banging music. It was all exceptional. Thank you so much for an awesome evening!

My friends and I went to Fern ( croydon ) a few weeks ago and we absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is good and the service was brilliant we were assisted by Mary she was so accommodating and explained all the cocktails and even suggested drinks that complimented the food we had. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Croydon. The service we got from Mary was exceptional 👌

Prices a bit high if compared with other resturants in Croydon, with the same food quality and quantity. Too loud disco music in the background and too much salt in the meatballs (for my taste). I will not return here.

Finally we have a nice bar in central Croydon! Beautiful setting, friendly service, amazing cocktails. I was served by Mary, who was very helpful in choosing one! I will be back soon!

We went for a special occasion and thought that it is just a fancy restaurant. But the food is surprisingly good. The green lasagne was full of flavour despite it being vegetarian. The crispy potato is the best I've had in London so far. The cocktails are also very thoughtful and fresh, not just a fruit juice alcohol mix. Great vibes but maybe a tea light candle on the table would be nice. The door wasn't closing properly so it was a bit chilly. The wait for food was a bit long but it was worth the wait. The chocolate cake was a bit too sweet it is more like fudge than a brownie. All in all a great place. Would love to come back again.

I organised an event here on a Saturday afternoon. Due to the timeslot, there was no hire fee which was fundamental in my choosing of Fern as a venue. This allowed us to purchase food for our guests, all of which was brought out on time and delicious. The bar space was also perfect for my party of 40 people. I'd highly recommend Fern for both events and popping in for lunch!

Beautiful aesthetic, more than you'd expect from Croydon. The food mirrored that. Great sharing selection and executed well. The potatoes were a particular highlight. That all comes at a cost though. Way overpriced for the area, and while the staff were friendly, the place was totally empty.

Fantastic meal out for three of us, in particular the aubergine dish, some of the best food I have had in Croydon. Fantastic service from Marta, couldn't recommend it enough :D

We have had numerous business meetings here and i have to say the place is great. The food is always fresh and tasty, the short ribs are a firm favourite for me, although currently they have swapped them out for lamb. Mary, who always tends to our drink needs is fantastic, great coffee and cocktails. We will continue to visit Fern, perhaps more so when the short beef ribs are back.

Fantastic find in Croydon of all places! Food was absolutely incredible could not fault it. Probably the best potatoes I have ever eaten! Staff were friendly and helpful and the bar/restaurant had a very cool vibe. Not the cheapest meal but given the quality and deliciousness of the food this wouldn't stop me coming back. They really should sign post it more so more people know about it but equally I don't want to share! Loved the food thanks!

I've been coming here all the time. Whether it's for meeting or for weekend coffee/cocktails it's always great. Food and drinks are really nice. Bartenders and Mary are super friendly. Thank you guys for staying consistently great.

Unfriendly welcome - popped in for a drink on a Sunday afternoon but were immediately told to leave before we could sit down as we had a sleeping 6 month old in a pram. I can understand not allowing toddlers to run around but it seemed harmless not to allow a sleeping baby that cannot even get out the pram in to the venue. Such a shame as it looked as if it could be a good addition to the area but it’s upsetting the staff have to act so militant and not accommodate everyone.

Had a fantastic evening with six friends. Great new addition to Croydon. Lovely restaurant inside and excellent service. The cocktails were fab and lovely food. Our only concern was that the prices are for small sharing plates so the overall bill was higher than anticipated. But we all said we’d go again. Thanks to the restaurant for a good evening.

I visited Fern for the first time and i enjoyed my short experience. I personally do not enjoy the industrial look as it appears lazy but it works in this location. I ordered a pineapple highball. I chose this because i had yet to try duppy share rum. It was ok. The presentation was impressive and the staff were welcoming and helpful. I will visit again.

Visited Fern yesterday. What a beautiful, calm and welcoming place. The pastries were delicious. Thank you to the lovely staff who looked after are every need. Thank you Mary, you are so professional and both your service and your colleague was excellent.

We had some amazing pre lunch cocktail drinks. Mary, who served us, made some great recommendation for our choices. We love the signature Margarita Verde and Espresso Martini cocktail drinks. We really enjoyed them!

This was ur first visit to this incredibly cool place. The waiting staff is so attentive, helpful and friendly. All food is really delicious and freshly prepared and the portions are really generous. Fantastic. Can't wait for another visit

Fern is excellent in every way - the food is sublime with generous portions, wine list excellent, staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is upbeat and stylish. An amazing place on my doorstep in CR0. I’ve been back twice in the last 4 weeks and going again in a fortnight. Love it!
