Fat Seagull in East Lindsey

We recently had the pleasure of visiting this fabulous cafe. Actually on two occasions for a delicious coffee, latte and flat white, both made perfectly, and one occasion for a beer. Every visit, Cath the proprietor greeted us with her humorous outlook, what a delight, we laughed so much. We purchased a homemade pastie and quiche for our journey home, both were delicious. All the staff were delightful, we will definitely visit again someday.

I realise that any attempt at criticism of this place is met with withering scorn from the owner who prowls this website and no doubt others parading her merciless wit and relishing the last word.  But here goes. When all's said and done, she deserves it and people need warning. We'd visited the Fat Seagull several times before without incident.  We'd certainly never complained before, even though my mum was once served a rock hard fish cake. The food is mediocre but there is so littke choice in this area. Nothing had prepared us for the treat we had in store this time. The problems came when my wife said we were disappointed with the coffees.  There are still places that think a flat white is a coffee with some hot milk and an extra pound on top and The Fat Seagull is certainly one of that dwindling but sadly persistent bunch.  The owner immediately demanded to know what we thought a flat white was.  I suggested textured milk would be a start.  I was promptly informed that was not a feature and that 'the clue's in the title.'  The lazy, sub-standard coffee wasn't entirely surprising, but the gratuitous contempt was a new one. Unable to compete with the dazzling repartee, I shrugged and (probably unwisely, on reflection) wished her luck with her next review.  This evidently touched a nerve and she launched into a rant about 'people like you'.  At her insistence, the coffee re-appeared after a fruitless attempt to improve it.  She insisted my wife try it.  Unfortunately, my wife didn't know it had been super-heated, was scalding hot and promptly burned her mouth.  In some distress, she asked for water.  This was refused by the owner, who called her 'insane', refunded our money and demanded we leave. She actually pushed my wife. We left immediately. It was several days before my wife's mouth healed. This will inevitably elicit a trademark hilarious reply from the owner.  i see she responds to every review, fawning over the easily satisfied and mocking anyone who dares to suggest that the Michelin star is unlikely to arrive any time soon. Perhaps less time on the internet and more time in the kitchen might be a step in the right direction.  Or at least watch a YouTube video on how to make a flat white.  Come on, I'm not expecting North London hipster, but at least try.  Or she could pop along to the Observatory at Chapel Point and get the kids there to show her. Anyway over to Basil Fawlty's maiden aunt for the eye-rolling, yawns, closes laptop in despair etc etc. Joking aside, this woman is a deeply unpleasant, unstable piece of work. Stay well clear.

Great brunch popped in for a quick break had a sausage sandwich which was really good and had a nice glass of red also a bacon and egg baguette really fresh and warm thoroughly enjoyed it we will be back. Really friendly staff.

The Fat Seagull is a lovely, refreshing and friendly place to have a break from the loudness of the busy towns on the East coast. The staff are laid back and very nice, we were served by Eden who is fabulous. I came over with my granddaughter and we both enjoyed the food and the drinks, we will be back very soon.

We read the tripadvisor reviews before going The Fat Seagull - we LOVED Catherine's responses to some of the low score reviews and think she ought to consider trying out for stand up comedy - really good fun and putting the other side to the story - which so often people can not see! Anyhow, arrived, parking easy, lovely table in the shade (was a very hot day), pleasant staff, good food and uttlerly mutterly ice cream for our Doris - perfect ! Could not ask for anything more!

We were staying in Sutton on Sea and reccomended to try The Fat Seagull. We were certainly not disappointed, excellent food and coffee and friendly staff, very welcoming to our dogs. And just a short walk from the beach! We went back on two further occasions and we extremely happy every time, I can only assume some of the negative reviewers had actually visited a cafe in an alternative universe and got themselves mixed up! But we have had a good laugh reading Catherine's responses - please keep it up. By the way, we also met Catherine face to face and had a good chat, she is certainly not "Incredibly rude"!!!!

This is the first time I have ever written a one out of five review and I’m aware the owner will not take it kindly. We went for drinks a couple of days ago and the food looked good we returned today for lunch. I was told that they were closing in half an hour, and that they had staffing issues in the kitchen. I was told that they could only provide food which needed heating and not cooking. Having walked 3 miles to get there we decided to order anyway. We ordered a slice of quiche and a portion of the daily special, Macaroni cheese. We also had little bottle of Prosecco and a pint of beer. Total bill £23.50. We were disappointed that the quiche when it arrived was a small portion served on a saucer dressed with 2 lettuce leaves and missing the cole slaw and chips advertised on the menu board. (We didn’t expect the chips given the problems in the kitchen.) The pasta was a sticky microwaved mess served in a teacup, with no attempt at browning, garnished with a solitary pea shoot. Neither meal looked appetising. Though because we were hungry the pasta was eaten. The quiche was only half eaten. We tried to express our disappointment to the waitress, (tall, dark haired young lady), but all she kept saying was that they only charged £2.00 for the quiche. On trying to explain that it was not to do with the money but about the disappointment she just walked away whilst we were still speaking, trying to explain our grievance. Having worked in hospitality for years I know that the mark of a good company is how it deals with problems and our problem was simply walked away from with no attempt at reconciliation. It would have been better if they had just told us at the outset that they weren’t able to provide food. All she needed to say was please try us again when we are better staffed. We would have ordered and enjoyed drinks. Instead she and the Fat Seagull have lost repeat trade.

well after seeing an advert for the opening hours of 10 - 3 I turned up to find out they were closed, I was starving & had no other option than to hook a bag of crisps through the letter box using the owner's broom & her black cat's collar, I did post a pound through the keyhole too, one thing would be good would be some lighting or a torch as eating a pack of crisps at 11 pm was difficult, I`ll try again today see if you are open as stated, good day to you.

What amazing cake, service and coffee. A little gem so close to the beach in Sandilands. Fab for dogs and to stop off for some delicious coffee and cake. The fish and chips are gorgeous. this is one of my favourite spots, great coffee/ tea and nice snacks. right by the sea so perfect for a stroll and refreshments. The owner reminds me of a fabulous old film star.........well old anyway......just kidding as she loves a joke.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Fat Seagull. The local artworks and other items on sale make the place a little different. The staff were all very friendly and the service was quick. The food and drink were spot on. I really enjoyed my fish and chips with a cheeky Camden beer on the side. It was a pleasure to say hello to the boss. I love your sence of humour!

Ice Rock Cafe in Sutton on Sea for amazing proper coffee and excellent food & service with a smile 😊

We had breakfast rolls and a cup of tea. Nice food and reasonably priced. Lovely gift shop attached also with some lively bits.

Just because we didn't like the chips we were told go visit McDonald's, downright rude. She came and asked us if we enjoyed our meal we had no intention of complaining.

We are on holiday so came for lunch Sept 5th & always look for somewhere dog friendly. We were not disappointed. Seating outside & also some undercover so very dog friendly. Lovely food & very friendly, polite staff. Hubby had fish & chips with delicious homemade tartare sauce. I had Mediterranean veg quiche, chips, salad & homemade coleslaw. All delicious! Hubby really enjoyed his pale ale on draught & I had a really nice latte. Inside there is also a very tasteful art shop with some great art & crafts to purchase. Thank you. We will definitely visit again soon.

We popped in for an ice cream for us adults and kids. Ice cream was fantastic, so so good. It was a little soft because the freezer had switched off, but nonetheless, it was delicious! Wish we'd stayed for some fish and chips because it looked amazing!

Incredibly rude staff. Won’t be going back. Definitely NOT vegan- friendly. My family and I went in today and made a simple and polite enquiry as to the availability of certain vegan food options. We received an incredibly sarcastic and curt reply from the woman behind the counter. I was completely taken aback. She evidently does not like vegans and doesn’t want them in her cafe! Obviously we won’t be going back!

Absolutely lovely place to eat and drink, food is beautiful and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The whole establishment is spotless and immaculate. Every time we visit the area we drive over to eat here, and the gallery showcasing local artists work .

We love stopping in the area to walk the dogs on the beach and this place is a fantastic find! Staff are lovely and their food and drinks are awesome! We’ll worth visiting!! They have a gallery as part of it to, so you can purchase some work from local artists. Love places like this.

Third time we have visited here, disappointing this time. It wasn’t as good as previous visits. A ham salad brioche with more salad than ham and a tiny pot of coleslaw wasn’t really worth what we paid for it. . The pasties have shrunk considerably.

Called today with friends drinks, which progressed into sandwich, pasty and mini tapas, after seeing what other people were eating. Had a chat with the lovely lady owner. Fab artworks and gifts to view aswell and only a few hundred yards from an amazing beach. Would recommend a visit.

They obviously take great pride in the presentation of the entire business, it is immaculate and very tastefully presented. The food is great, coffee is worth a visit and the staff are very attentive and courteous. I will return.
