George served us today and was very friendly and great with my son. Letting him pick the table, brought colouring pens etc. My son loves burgers and we try a new place every week. He has said fat hippo has took the number 1 spot. Big compliment from him!

Good quality, hot, tasty food and fast friendly service. (Thanks George, our waiter.) No signal downstairs, (yay!) But you can ask for the Wi-Fi code if you can't survive a hour without the internet. One course left me pleasantly full.

The burgers are unbelievably good. Wow! It's an underground restaurant so don't expect views of the city but it's well decorated and comfortable. Skip the starter and just go for the main which is a generous portion and simply divine no matter which burger you go for!

Lovely food and service but was spoilt by a very loud male group eating at the same time. Couldn't hear ourselves speak. They were asked to quiet down at one point. Nothing to do with service just inconsiderate guests!

Think we missed the Saturday night rush coming a little later than usual which was nice. The food was out very fast, lovely as always, and the service by Poppy and Jack was excellent.

Haven't been the Fat HIppo in the Newcastle city centre for a while now, ye food is always consistently good. Nice atmosphere, the staff are always really helpful especially Fran today with explaining the menu as it had slightly changed. Respect to Callum as well for checking in on us at appropriate times, nothing worse than being asked how your food is with a mouth full of good 😂.

Amazing restaurant! The burgers were absolutely delicious, and the staff really lovely and efficient. The restaurant has a nice cosy feel - I would recommend booking as it always seems busy. We will definitely be back here - the food is incredible!

Upon arrival, the restaurant presented a positive first impression, with a clean and welcoming atmosphere. However, there was a significant delay in receiving our starters (approximately 30 minutes). Subsequently, the main courses were served overcooked and cold. While the staff were accommodating and apologetic regarding the service issues, the quality of the food was unsatisfactory.

Went for the born slippy and the burger was great, not too spicy just enough to leave tingling lips along with the cajun hand cuts but nothing overpowering so give them a try if you like your burgers, the place filled up quickly on a midweek afternoon which is always a good sign Staff are more than happy to switch the cajun hand cuts for plain chips if it's not to your liking

Ordered through JUST EAT .. took nearly 2 hours to arrive when I rang the restaurant I got a stinking attitude from the staff .. when food arrived it was stone cold and inedible.. tried warming it back up made it worse .. the only decent thing was the over priced bottle of coke .. the restaurant passed the buck onto JUST EAT and JUST EAT didn’t want to know well offered £7 back out of £47 that basically covers the delivery and tip … absolutely disgusting attitudes from both sides avoid this place at all costs

I was looking for somewhere with gluten free options to go for a birthday treat; travelled up from Darlington to try and was not disappointed. Every member of staff is lovely and so friendly. I advised I was celiac and was served from that point by the manager who took time to confirm items that were gf to me. Food was amazing, was so full but squeezed in a dessert. Would highly recommend to everyone gf or not my husband enjoyed his non gf meal as well! Top service and top food will be back!

We had a fantastic visit to Fat Hippo this afternoon. It was easy to book on the website, the food arrived very quickly and it was piping hot and delicious! We were made to feel very welcome by our server George, who was attentive, friendly and happy to help. Overall, a great experience 😊

I've been here soooo many times by now and I absolutely love it, my favourite beef burger in Newcastle by far. Whether it's a date night or I just fancy a burger, this is my go to spot. I changed up my order this evening and went with the "Born Slippy" instead of my usual "Fat Hippo" burger, I'd give it a solid 4/5, whereas my usual I'd give 5/5. Also ordered extra onion rings for the first time today too and they were delicious, such good value for money as well.

The burgers here are amazing, and there is a large vegan and vegetarian section. The milkshakes are also delicious and there is a wide variety of other drinks available. When we went, the service was pretty slow and it was very loud inside by maybe typical of a Saturday night.

Didn’t have a pleasant experience here . My partner got a chicken burger that was still pink inside, which made me check mine before I took a bite of it only to find that my beef burger was still red raw in the middle . We ended up leaving the whole meal due to this

Amazing looking food. Sadly my buffalo burger was flavourless and cold. Same with my partners burger. The fries and cheese balls (also only lukewarm) were delicious.

We were having a nice family get together a drink and starters this were all delicious even the vegan starter When mains came then that’s when things changed. The born slippy burger came all was well until the second burger in the meal was raw. This made my daughter spend the next 10-15 mins been sick in the loo. This spoilt our get together we went to the Newcastle fat hippo as pastime we came to Durham and the meal was amazing

Great selection of Veggie/vegan burgers. Were happy to give me non vegan cheese as I am veggie, which was great. My husband loved his burger which had all the meats from the special menu. Friendly service. Glad we found it online as probably wouldnt have seen if we had just walked past.

Came here on a date and it was amazing friendly staff, lovely food. My only gripe was the toilets are tiny. But not much they can do about that!

I've been going for a while, I love it there, I'm always craving my next burger and watermelon margarita. But one thing I will never stop dreaming about,,, its the pickleback. I dont know what it is, but their pickle juice is sublime. Paired with the PB+JJ; I'm a happy lad. Everytime I go, I always ask for extra juice. Today was my birthday dinner and they were kind enough to give me some gherkin relish. It made my entire week. The staff are so canny and kind, it's just so nice to be there. If you want a great night, great food, amazing drinks and fabulous staff: Highly recommend!!! My whole heart goes out to Poppy, Fran and Rachael <3

I enjoyed my meal here, although I regret not ordering the tots because the ones my friend gave me were so good! I found the fries a little overdone, but the burger was nice as was the blue cheese dip. My dessert was nice but I thought a little small for the price.

Popped in hoping to get table tonight and despite the team having a much busier night than I expected they accommodated out family of 5. Service was brilliant thanks Ruby for making us all laugh about the cheeseburger button and making us all feel so welcome. Just the right amount of attentiveness with a sprinkle of great chat Well done Team Newcastle food was awesome as was the service.
