Fat Cat Cafe Bar in Derby

I booked bottomless brunch for 32 people as a surprise gathering for a 40th birthday. We had continuous drinks throughout the course of brunch and the food was all prepared and brought out at the same time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were all super friendly and had good banter with our large group.. well done team fat cats ❤️

Lunch menu is brilliant. It used to be cheaper but at £5.95 for a Burger and chips and a drink is still good value. The restaurant/cafe/bar is clean and a very nice environment to sit in.

Bouncers bring the place down, they are extremely unnecessarily aggressive. After being punched in the stomach because one bouncer was so intent on not allowing a girl speak to her friend over railing, that I got in his way, No apology and when questiobed on his conduct, I was met with a get out attitude. - hence not stepping foot back in for 2 years. My daughter was out last night and a similar issue occurred where the bouncer flew to stop someone from talking to another customer over the railing, and in the process knocked her drink all over her, when consulted about his over reaction, she was met with aggression. I reported my incident to the police on the night and they wanted me to make a statement to prosecute him, but I backed out . You don't get this type of thuggish attitude from any other establishment in the city, Fatcats need to review their bouncer recruitment policy.

We went for a bottomless brunch as a party of 14. Shanelle who served us was absolutely outstanding. I have never experienced such amazing service during a bottomless brunch. We were all amazed, we booked fat cats on a whim not expecting much. To our surprise it is the best bottomless brunch we have ever been to - but I believe the key to that was Shanelle. The relationship she built with us instantly was brilliant, very accommodating and completely aware of our needs. Highly recommend. Absolutely brilliant!!

Went for brunch on Saturday @ 4 our server was amazing friendly felt like we knew her for years.

Came here last Tues as we saw it was 50% off food, 3 adults and 3 children. Food was great and everyone enjoyed, kids had pizzas, sausage and mash adults had the kebab, the fish and chips and fajita sizzler, we all very enjoyed and will be back soon 🙂

Don't drink here if your thirsty. Slowest ever bar staff, I've ever encountered. Even a glass of water took forever, he walked round the back and then came with ice scoop, spoke to 2 staff members, holding empty glass .. asked again ' can I have a glass of water' then proceeded.. I was the only person at the bar.. god forbid when it's busy 🍸 🍹

A good friend of mine visited as part of a large function Fri 19th of July! She is type 1 diabetic and was going hypoglycaemic! She asked the barmaid for an orange juice and explained she has a low blood sugar and just needed the orange juice! A debate then ensued! “ you can’t pay by card for that”’ she ordered 2 so it went over the £5 minimum spend for a card payment! My point?! If someone is hypo - give them the bloody orange juice, debate the rules of payment after!

50% off Tuesdays are such a great deal! The fajitas were very filling and come on a sizzling plate, and the burgers are a great size! The kebab is a little disappointing but that's all :) well worth a visit especially on a tuesday

This was our second visit for bottomless brunch, and the food selection was even better this time. The service was excellent, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning.!!

Only went for the R&B night which was hosted upstairs, Good night and would suggest more events.

Amazing staff and a lovely atmosphere always love coming in here for a drink and would recommend to anyone.

DJ was rude when approached by a young lady requesting a song the DJ let her stand there while he looked around acting like he didn’t see her and then declined her request and seen this happen a number of time during the night to different people. bar staff OK 4/11/2023

Andrew in the kitchen made the best fajitas and was so lovely when I asked for him to make it take away when I needed to leave, glen, Matt and Max where the perfect amount of fantastic service, all round great food and service for a date night, thanks team fat cat!

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I booked the venue hire for last night for my 30th birthday. and we had to leave. From the beginning it has been terrible service including no replies to emails and no working phone number for over 2 weeks. We had to actually go in twice to confirm details for the party as we had received no updated menu for food either. Last night we had to abandon my party and leave at 10pm. What the manager failed to tell us earlier that there is no air conditioning or fan in the upstairs room (we had been told the day before there was a fan). It was so hot every person spent the evening sweating, unable to dance and leaving most people forced to stand outside or on the fire exit balcony. Not only this, but we couldn’t play our own Spotify music as they ‘didn’t know the Wi-Fi password’ until the DJ came at 9pm. Even then the music was so loud downstairs it clashed so if you book here don’t expect to play your own music. This was after we had to check how we put music on in which they told us we would need to buy our own cable as there’s had been stolen (which didn’t fit a phone anyway). On top of this, the upstairs bar stopped working numerous times which only made more people need to go downstairs and queue for a drink. I cancelled the party when we had 7 people left in the upstairs room due to the heat/ bar. Honestly how you can market yourself as a venue with room hire is disgusting and my birthday was completely ruined. Not to mention hundreds of pounds wasted. The manager had a ‘not my problem’ attitude and was completely unhelpful throughout the whole night and before. A new manager did try to help to an extent on the evening but it was too late.

Really bad experience here, went for a 30th Birthday party and there was no air con (which I get can’t always be helped) the till kept breaking, there was only two bar staff serving, felt so sorry for them they were so busy. The birthday girl had a playlist of her music and they couldn’t even get that right! Downstairs was even worse, absolutely rammed, the poor bar staff looked exhausted and boiling. The toilets are disgusting, flooded, dirty, no toilet roll. We ended up going to Bishop Blaze and it was AWESOME!

TGIs place made me feel horrific. My m a big person and wore shorts that were £160 adidas but jogger material. They told me to go away and not come back and that they made me look ugly. I was distraught and didn’t know what to do but the team at the front door laughed at me until I walked away. They were literally evil. It took all my courage to try and enter tonight yet they made me feel 3inches tall. This place wanted to make me look awful in front of other bars beacause I challenged their review of me. I had shorts on that didn’t conform to their chino standards. They are expensive £160 shorts and they decided they wanted to make and example of me. And when I contested they radioed to all bars or to let me in. I’m no trouble maker and have never let myself into a fight. This is what happens when I speak my mind

We have an amazing experience today. The customer service has been second to none, Byron- a young man really went above & beyond- he’s delivery was outstanding, he communicated & interacted well, he was able to tune in to our interests- he was absolutely fantastic.

Went here Saturday 06/05/23, The door man frisked me, I felt disrespected, I did not really like his attitude at all, I am 70 hardly going to be causing any trouble or carry a weapon, I think he must have worked at an airport or similar, when I complained about it he told me to p***s off, not very professional and shows the calibre and quality of the person, if he worked for me and I have been in business 40 years he would be down the road by now. I went to four bars in the area Saturday night not one frisked me. If I go to fat cats again and they want to frisk me I shall turn around and go elsewhere. I think Fat Cats need look at this and train their door staff to be respectful and polite to the customer, after all its not their bar that will be losing business and you cannot afford to have people turn away and go elsewhere.

I and my group were looking forward to go and get some cocktails from here only to be told I can not enter because I had a bowler hat on... I'm not a chav with a ski mask now am I? I'm a gent in a three piece suit with a bowler hat! Utterly shocking! If you don't want anyone with hats don't have a logo of a gentleman cat in a top hat! I don't think I'll even bother trying to come again! Gone down hill from the fatcats we once knew and loved...

Personally pricing was good, staff were lovely. Sad that they charge a entry fee after a certain time. Even if you go out and want to re enter you have to pay again! Would happily go again!

When we heard that Don Burgers were having a residency at this pub we just had to go. We went on Tuesday and to our surprise it was 50% discount. Not only on the food but drinks too. We had the Dirty Don Burger which was absolutely gorgeous and very very tasty and juicy. The pizza we had was the meat feast,and was brimming with meats and cooked just right. If you like your grub like we do this is a must try. Find this useful give it a like👍 follow

Bouncers on a power trip. They were heavy-handed with my pregnant wife, told me to 'take it steady' when I'm the most peace-loving bloke going and just made our small group's initial interaction with the business very tense and unpleasant. We are all mature and professional but they totally ruined our happy vibe for that part of the evening. Music too loud when inside (having to shout at bar staff to place an order, which isn't nice). At our second attempt at ordering another beer (no ale available unfortuatnely, just fizz) we were waiting from 20:03 to 20:25, by which point we decided just get out of there. Two stars because of the above.

One of the bar staff which I believe was a manager was very impolite to the point to be rude . But the others were very welcoming and polite

Decent enough, though sat near the bar and watch our drinks order sit for 20 minutes before being brought to our table. Drinks are cheap though so can't complain too much. Overall found it hard to get served when we wanted firing covid (Could be helped with App?)

Was seated by one employee who was very polite, ordered some food and drinks, about 20 mins later whilst eating my food another employee came to my table and complained that I could not wear a hat inside, to which I replied “the employee who seated me didn’t mention anything” he then became very argumentative and rude towards me and my girlfriend. I have been here multiple times with my hat on and never had any issues, absolutely disgusted by this employees attitude towards a paying customer. Defiantly would not come here again. Ruined the evening for mine and my girlfriends 2 year anniversary. One positive to talk about really, drinks were half price so I got absolutely leathered. Good stuff.

Rude staff and just a general dirty feel.

The food was good. But we were appalled asked to leave after 2 hours just as we ordered more drinks. We said we ordered more drinks we were still told to leave. We then took our drinks outside to finish my coffee the bouncer came to us couple of times to leave yet the girls next to us said they ate inside came and sat outside for more drinks no one asked them to leave!!. We work for the NHS if they wanted us to leave they should not have taken another order of drinks. Even when we left one of our party member still sat there talking to others he was not asked to leave. The excuse we were given was others eating in are coming out to use outside tables (which is what we did) but all the other tables around us was empty. I heard the other bouncer said why are you asking them to leave he said I I said it now have to follow it through. FATCATS YOU MIGHT BE SUPPORTING THE NHS BUT YOUR STAFF FAILED US!

Love this place food and service Brilliant

I was lucky to find this small restaurant & bar on my way to The Last Post Micro Pub. It's a pleasantly designed, relaxed place [At least it was when I visited] that offers an interesting menu of international food at moderate prices. There are plenty of deals to be had, too, like half prices on meals on Tuesdays. The all-female staff were very welcoming, and the waitress actually coerced me into *saving* (!!!) money: I'm not normally a dessert person - of course waitresses are expected to offer you one, but what she didn't say was: By spending UKP 2.95 on a piece of rather nice lemon cheesecake, I got UKP 4.95(!) knocked off of the bill! That was a very pleasant surprise. As a mains I had the "Fat Cat Marinated Chicken", which was nicely presented and very tasty. The beer selection is, naturally in such an establishment, geared towards fizzy lagers though. But on the whole I enjoyed the meal and the place itself very much. A short walk from Derby centre, and recommended!

Half Price on Tuesday for food and drink, and half price as well for student on food. Makes it a good place for day drinking and the outside area is cozy when its sunny. The staff are very friendly and helpful, which makes the experience that much better.

Lovely bar but the bar staff are not interested and take their time. I went on a Tuesday night and waited 10 minutes for a drink for them to tell me they stopped serving just as I was ready to order. Do not recommend at all

Went hear for my partners birthday,great atmosphere really nice staff,i had the steak I asked for medium but it came well done but i didn't want to send it back as everyone else had there food and didn't want to be the only one eating as the kitchen shut as soon as we had our food,all thou i did have the steak b4 when i went with my friend and it was cooked perfectly,241 on cocktails is great too

We went for a meal last Tuesday when there was a half price menu. I had looked on line and decided to have sea bass and had chosen a possible starter and dessert. I eat gluten free and don’t eat meat and I was pleased to see a choice for me. Once there I picked up a menu and saw that it was completely different to what I had seen online. There were no starters I could eat and only cauliflower curry for a main. I was told it would be gluten free without the naan bread. I asked what I would be given to replace the naan bread and was initially told - extra rice? The waitress could tell I wasn’t impressed with that and to her credit went away and checked. She came back to say that I would be given gf pitta bread. I was happy with that. After the main we looked at desserts. There was nothing gluten free. The waitress said I could have ice cream which I didn’t want - it doesn’t compare with the other desserts ( roulade etc) and too cold for ice cream. Again she returned to say I could have fruit with it. When I mentioned the online menu she said it was an old menu that Fat Cat couldn’t get rid of! My food was fine but I was disappointed with the lack of choice when I expected something more interesting. Service was excellent - very friendly and efficient. The ambience was good as was the price. I would ask though that Fat Cat ask for help to delete the out of date and misleading menu, and add gluten free choices in their starter and dessert menu.

Nice place, good music and environment + cute external area

My experience of Fat Cat Derby is solely from a private function in the upstairs bar one Friday night. But the staff were helpful and the choice of drinks was pretty extensive. Judging by how loud it was downstairs I'd guess it's a good place for a night out.

Ok place to get a drink with the lads. Needs a refurb in my opinion.

A great lunchtime experience. The service was excellent as was the food. There is also a great outside area.

Don't go on Tuesdays unless you want the cheapest alcohol. I ordered a large house rose which was half price but nearly four pounds still. Seems fair until you realise that it's the same wine they sell at Bargain Booze three bottles for £10. Also we turned up at 6.00pm and they wouldn't serve food that late!

Food was poor quality, served the wrong order, service was poor. But as stated this was 12 months ago not recent..

What a fabulous venue. Great for groups.

Very good for after work cocktails especially the 2 for 1 offer. The cocktails are much stronger than the Slug and Lettuce. Friendly bar staff and lots of seating inside and out.

Random visit on our way back from Alton Towers - fab food, fab service, fantastic cocktails, really lovely atmosphere and this was only a Tuesday!

Fairly overpriced drinks and very busy at the weekend. A place for the young crowd with overly loud music playing so no one can hear what you are saying!
