My partner and I decided to have a run out for a change and had Sunday Lunch at Walworth. What a lovely experience. The whole meal was first class and couldn't be faulted. The Beef just melted in your mouth and the meal was hot, served in a good time and was a plate full of vegetables and well cooked treats. Everything from the Yorkshires to the extra inclusive gravy jug were just first class. The staff were all lovely, the place was really good and we will be back thats a certainty.

Staff were very attentive & familiar with the drinks on offer. Limited choice of beers, their own brewed beer was recommended & went down well with the ‘hardened beer drinkers.’ All drinks quite expensive compared to pub prices.

Friendly staff both at the hotel reception and at the bar. Good selection of food that satisfied our group (even those that went a 2nd time). Good sized starter and mains - so never made it to the puddings! There was a mix-up with the bill (partly our fault for complicating things) but the staff put it right the next day - can't really fault that.

Went for Sunday lunch today very disappointing. Meat tough,Yorkshire puddings hard, veg overcooked. We have been many times before and this was probably the worst. Bar staff slow seem to need training. There was also a wet floor notice in the middle of the floor causing a trip hazard!! I asked staff to move it before an accident happened.

Lovely setting however when waiting for someone to show us to our seats I wasnt impressed with her customer service. Visited the castle for lunch but thought we could have lunch in the lounge but were told that we couldn't have lunch but only coffee, we were told that we would have to go into the farmers, the seating area had a lot of crumbs on the seat, staff were not too sure what kind of glass to serve a gin and tonic in, this might seem daft but you would expect staff to know which is which. I wouldn't say the car park was disabled friendly as there was too much gravel about.

Loved our meal - both my wife and I opted for a starter and main course....very well looked after by attentive young staff members. The food is okay and there is limited options and most of the options that they have are quite simple. We order just some samwiches and chips and it took just over half an hour and when we asked for sauses and seasonings, that also took for ever to come out and they only came with a very small pot of sauses that was not enough for a party of nine. It is also very dark inside the restaurant while the rest of the hotel. Overall it left I slightly bitter taste in our mouths as after the birds of Pray center, even though they are completely unrelated, it was a reel disappointment.

Phoned in advance to check children's menu. Julie on reception very helpful and friendly. Late Sunday dinner very helpful as very busy lunchtime. Carvery was superb, offered beef, ham & pork mixture with perfect crisp Yorkshire pudding, sweet, fresh vegetables, delightful roast potatoes and tasty, thick gravy. I was bursting at the seams with generous portions! Super kids meal deals with 2 courses for £7 and fresh strawberries and home made ice cream to accompany chocolate Brownies. Callum was courteous and polite serving. Julie, front of house manager on reception was the perfect host, topping off a perfect evening with photos for our family in the historic dungeon dating back to Henry viii and having links to knights and Lords fighting at Flodden Field, secret tunnels to hide Catholic priests and suits of armour, medieval paintings and ornately carved wood panelled corridors. A truly spectacular place for weddings and great themed events: free classic car show, murder mystery evenings and medieval banquets.

Used to go here a lot it's not far to travel for me, quite often ate in Hansards too! The food is always well presented and tasty but a few small things changed and have not been back as often as I used to. The menu in the farmers bar is very limited not much to choose from, that in itself doesn't make me want to go back for a while. The service was very slow last time we were there, the guy who served us although polite was a little bit like Fawlty towers, made allowances due to his age! Hansards used to be in a lovely room with a piano then they moved it and it really spoiled the ambience of eating in a lovely restaurant. Went once and was guided to the farmers bar where they had laid out a table cloth, so your paying extra for the restaurant food but laid in the farmers bar was very off putting (reason we were told they were short staffed) . That was some time ago and have been to Hansards once since then just isn't the same.

We all ordered drinks and it was noticed that one of the drinks had diamanté particles in it. My daughter went to highlight this to one of the staff just out of courtesy and was very rudely told by the manager that he was 100% sure they weren’t in when the drink left the bar and that the glasses were all cleaned and inspected from the previous days wedding and suggested that they had been put in the glass by ourselves.

We had lunch here while visiting the bird of prey centre in the grounds. It's a beautiful building and a bit of a maze if you go in the front door looking for the bar. It was ok though as plenty of staff to direct us. The food was lovely, just had home made soup and sandwiches but the problem was actually getting it. Although there was over half a dozen staff in and out of the bar it was chaotic with little organisation. One girl seated us and said someone would come and take our order but nobody came! There was a lot of people at the bar yet a lot of staff milling about did not set in and help. Luckily we wanted a leisurely day so sat back and were entertained by the disorganisation. We put it down to a wedding about to start although I overheard staff saying they had not expected it to be as busy.Nice food but don't expect fast service!

Had Sunday lunch with a family of 10. We were told that we could not put the drinks on a bill and had to pay at the time which was fine however there was no card machine and we had to go to reception to pay. We then ordered a starter which we were told we had to pay for before we got them - again which meant going to the reception to pay. We complained at the reception who acknowledged that this was unacceptable and assured us we could order our main course and deserts before paying the final bill. However a supervisor told to us this was not their policy on a Sunday and advised that this is the system to pay and we would have to pay for each course separately. Because of this no one had a desert and we ordered no further drinks as we were up and down like a yoyo trailing to reception to pay by card for each course and round of drinks. I have never been to a restaurant with this system and found it appalling. The staff seemed young and inexperienced with no-one overseeing things and not once were we asked if the meal was okay. The food was fine but the service was shocking

Staying at the castle with my young son, I was a little worried about the food as the menus looked very expensive, so we didn't book a table in the restaurant instead opting for the Farmers Bar. I needn't have worried. The children's menu - 3 courses for £6.95 including a soft drink was absolutely spot on. my son wolfed the lot -only struggling with his pudding which I have to admit was a huge piece of chocolate fudge cake. I opted for one of the cheaper options - steak pie with chips and veg for £10.95. I've got a good appetite but the meal nearly beat me - the pie was topped full with thick chunks of lovely tender meat which was perfectly cooked. the shortcrust pastry on top was just like the pastry my nana used to make and then proper home cooked double dipped chips, beautiful. It was heaven and I enjoyed every mouthful. For pud i had bakewell pudding which was served with a thin layer of custard, a dollop of ice cream and 3 chocolate strawberries - it was amazing. This place is absolutely lovely, a fantastic place to go for a meal. I can't recommend it enough.

Although the 2 young members of staff were very friendly and tried to help they lacked any customer service skills and certain requests were just ignored or misunderstood. Although the menu was very inviting we found the main food to be very basic in fact it reminded me of al a ping! But paise where praise is deserved the side salad was the best I've ever seen and the deserts although we did not have them looked really good!!! I haven't been here for some 20 years, put off by working there for a short spell. Hungry family required Sunday lunch quickly so thought give it a whirl. Really nice!! Beautifully cooked meats and lovely fresh veg, not pre-prepped catering supplies. Was very tasty. Don't be put off by the notice at the bar saying extra meat can be purchased - portions were very generous. We squeezed in a dessert, the sticky toffee pudding was almost as good as mine! Served in a little copper pan, with lush ice cream.Staff were very pleasant and surroundings were very comfortable.Definitely will go back very soon

We used to visit Walworth regularly since I was a little girl, so almost 3 decades. What happened? The farmer's bar used to be lovely for a no nonsense tasty bar meal or carvery. Now there's horrible laminated sticky dirty menus, poor food, poor service. The desserts used to be a thing of beauty (anyone remember the Death by Chocolate?), sadly no longer. Has a cheap, tired feeling now.

Experienced the Sunday lunch carvery and very disappointed. Carvery set up the usual pay at the till and take your voucher. The layout of the carvery abit like sloppy school dinners. The staff are all just standing around watching you queue, apart from the chef serving the dinner not sure why they need the amount of staff waiting. Food layout looked like school dinners and food tasted very average. No real flavour just a bland sloppy Sunday lunch. The floor in the bar/restaurant has a slope and I must of seen at least 4 people trip up or trip down - accident waiting to happen. The atmosphere was full or really old people who seemed to have a distaste of children being in - this Sunday lunch experience was somewhere in the middle of school dinners and a day at an old peoples home.

We had booked this through a red letter day treat, but we added our daughter. Very courteous & friendly staff, we were offered a choice of places to sit. We decided to sit outside on the terrace in the sun. Tea consisted of a selection of sandwiches with pleasant but safe fillings, a slice of average Victoria sponge and fruit scones with jam & cream - whipped. A pot of tea plus a glass of wine each, which I felt was unnecessary, I'd rather have had better cake selection. Everything was ok except the cream was off, however they brought a fresh scone and more cream. Lovely location with fabulous view.

Have been to carvery before and it was perfectly fine and the chef was a larger than life character , we enjoyed it . This time we had two carvery meals and assorted sandwiches , all eaten outside on the beautiful terrace .OK - deep breath ,here we go !!! When trying to buy drinks before ordering the barman was unhelpful , surly and so lacking any idea of how to do his job it almost made us look round for hidden cameras - it was just the sort of thing you used to see on Candid Camera . Wow , really awkward as our party consisted of elderly parents and children who just wanted a nice relaxed lunch and not to be confronted with the most dreadful service(what service ??) in Co. Durham. Sandwiches took 20 mins but were ok . However the carvery was tasteless , crackling was definitely not crackly, meat bland and tough and veggies nondescript , Yorkshire puddings managed to be both hard and soggy at same time. This is a beautiful building in a glorious position but we had a horrible time . Very cross and very disappointed .

We have been meeting friends about once a month for several years as the carvery was so good and the Farmers Bar so cosy. While the restaurant and very friendly staff are just as welcolming the carvery certainly has changed. We came for a meal 4 weeks ago and found that there was only pork on the carvery and not beef. There seemed to be a mince and dumplings dish too.We all had the pork on that occasion and thought it was just a one off that day.We visited again on Thursday this week to find that the only carved meat was pork again but that the mince dish, another casserole dish and toad in the hole were on offer. We have those kinds of meals at home and want something more special when dining out. These dishes remind me of the ones served in a store cafe.We feel we will now reluctantly have to find some other restaurant for our monthly get togethers.

I don't think you will get a better value for money, good quality meal in a friendlier atmosphere. The beef is perfectly cooked and all the veg are delicious all I would like to see is parsnips! Homemade Yorkshires and the nicest real gravy you can imagine, topped off with some fab horseradish! Great value for a great quality meal - will definitely be back!

My husband and I have eaten at this carvery on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. We dined there on 5th March and were greeted by a very vocal chef who couldn't have been more welcoming. I had the pork and hubby had the beef and we agreed the meat was just beautiful and the vegetables were well cooked as were the Yorkshire puddings. Half way through our meal the chef went round the tables asking if everyone was happy with their meal. Everyone appreciated the fact that the chef himself had been to their table and i thought it was a very nice touch. In short this carvery is great value for money, the food is top notch and the chef is a real character and really made our visit special. We will most certainly be back very soon

Walworth Castle Hotel advertise a carvery in the Farmers Bar each weekday, however, on Friday no carvery was laid out and we were informed that the meal would be plated up for us.A piece of tasteless beef arrived in a sea of gloop along with a soggy yorkshire pudding. Watery vegetables completed the meal.We have eaten here many times, the previous time was only a fortnight ago when they had an excellent and friendly chef and a faultless carvery. We asked the waiter what was the problem? and he informed us that it was not considered worth laying the carvery out for less than 20 diners - (there were about 30 diners there at the time and he was run off his feet doing everything). We then asked the lady at reception the same question and she told us that the carvery would probably be back in March .Not good enough! They are advertising something which no longer exists and I was just one of a number of very disgruntled customers.
