Family Cafe in Southend-on-Sea

We had pie and mash with liquor. They were the worst pies I have ever had. Tasteless mince and pastry that was hard and tasted like flour and water. Also single mash is 4 scoops, double mash is 7.

I wanna start by saying I love this Cafe the Staff are excellent kind the food is 6 stars ⭐️ if I could give it more I would you get a nice portion of food the staff 6 stars ⭐️ for being so kind and caring Thank you so much for a great meal Daniel

This cafe has such a friendly environment and the staff are so lovely and to top it off the food is delicious! Definitely the best cafe down Southend high street!

Visited this place in September lovely and clean, helpful staff food well presented. Menu in front window if you would like to check prices before you go in, you will not be disappointed. From greetings to other people using the place they have a regular clientele, which is always a good sign. Also spotted someone shopping for rolls with a list, so possible office lunch run. Really pleased I found this place, food cooked to order and well worth a visit. If I find myself in Southend again, I will certainly call again.

It’s a nice looking place with a lovely atmosphere and you can’t fault the staff, however there was an overpowering stench of damp/mould and we couldn’t finish our food which is a shame because the establishment really is lovely. Please sort out the damp/mould smell because I won’t be returning otherwise.

Very Clean Cafe with friendly staff, lively meals all cooked to order. Would recommend to any one who wanted good food. Menu in the window if you need to check out the value for money with plenty of different food choices. Also noticed people coming in with take away orders.

Have tried this place a few times now for a breakfast.. Staff are always polite and quick to clear the empty plates from tables. Food was cooked to order ao time to enjoy a hot drink that is included in the price..value for money for an intown cafe.

Great little cafe just off the beaten track in Southend. No frills, good honest food at a reasonable price. Had the breakfast after considering the Pie and mash that I think I will have on my next visit. You place your order at the counter and pay, your food is the brought to your table.

Ordered a "traditional stewed eels meal" which for several reasons is becoming more and more elusive. The meat pie was lovely-full of lean beef, the mash very good as was the liquor with a very generous helping of stewed eels. I have visited several establishments in and around London and this is the best so far!

Had pie and mash in here yesterday and it was beautiful. A real comfort food. The mash was lovely and the gravy was out of this world.

Came here for breakfast after trying to find a simple café in Southend. The place was busy and you order at the counter. Nice enough waitresses but our breakfast did nearly go to another table and she forgot my fried slice (but did bring it over as we asked for it). Reasonable enough prices and clean enough food.

Came here for breakfast this morning to find the prices have gone up . Not very happy put me off having breakfast here it used to be good value for money .

my late partner Frankie and I popped into the family café and enjoyed pie mash and liquor, great service and food.

Vimos este café cuando compras, Madre creció en el East End, así que ella me apetecía probar una comida antiguo favorito. La pastelería era dura, pero la Misa del gallo dentro no era grasos. El puré estaba bien y una buena parte de tamaño. Yo estaba un poco desilusionados por el licor verde, pero era bastante agradable. Madre, lo disfrutamos. El precio era muy razonable, así que un gran valor. El personal era amable y el lugar parecía muy limpio.

Empezamos a ir allí hace unos años y pastel de puré y no estaba mal. . Hace un tiempo que. o bien las tartas de otro somelace o alguien empezó a hacer ellos. . Mala cosa. . .

Mi marido decidió que liqor tarta, puré y era imprescindible, porque él tenía el doble de todo y una taza de té que tenía café, 4 patatas fritas chuletas de cordero y guisantes, las patatas fritas eran preciosas y seco. Absolutamente estupenda comida y excelente servicio. Ahora el poco de movilidad reducida puede llegar al loos bien si con palo o poca marco pero no real minusválidos. loo No creo que tengan el espacio, si puedes caminar unos pasos, luego la de loos son adecuados.

En tarta quitó puré. hmmm. al ser un cockney y crecen. Puré tarta, lo intenté, y los pasteles no eran tan buenas. No estaba mal, pero no el tipo que promueven, este pastel de puré final n. De ninguna manera. . . buen esfuerzo tuve...

He estado aquí muchas veces tanto con amigos y familia, y continuará a visitar regularmente. El servicio es maravilloso, el personal es increíblemente amable y atento. La comida es increíble relación calidad-precio y de buena calidad, la comida es preparada a la orden, asegurándose de que está fresco y caliente. Puede que no sea un lugar grande pero es muy popular. Nadie en la zona que todavía no ha visitado, os aconsejo que para hacerlo, no te decepcionará. Tienen un amplio menú, asegurándose de que no es algo para todo el mundo, también tienen un menú para niños. De nuevo no puedo calificar lo suficiente, cada vez que voy me gusta la comida, el ambiente y la amabilidad del personal me deja con una sonrisa en mi cara, en una época en la que la excelencia en el servicio al cliente es más y más difícil de encontrar, es agradable ver que algunas personas todavía consciente de la importancia de que, gracias chicos, sigan con el buen trabajo, nos vemos de nuevo pronto.

This is a 'caf' - nothing more or less - with formica tables and no frills - but the food is exactly what it should be. Living abroad but born in the East End, I was hankering after pie and mash and got my wish. Great pie, several scoops of mash and delicious parsley 'liquor'. Together with a mug of tea and total price 4.30 - who could complain! No wonder it is always full morning and lunchtime - very varied range of breakfasts and lunches on menu. Very friendly service. Highly recommended.

We visited last week on a spur of the moment decision - we couldn't find anywhere new for breakfast that wasn't overpriced for what you got. Luckily, we walked down a side road and stumbled across this place, really friendly staff and the food was lovely too - spot on for what we were after! Will be returning!

Whenever my husband and I want a breakfast on a Saturday morning we come here. Big portions, friendly staff, good prices, and everything cooked well. They do more than breakfast though!

Found this place quite by accident, thought it was just a pie and mash shop but no, it does all kinds of things from sandwiches to full english breakfast, cheese on toast, There were a steady stream of people in and out the whole time, of all ages and the place was spotless and the service good. Nothing fancy but the food is good and reasonably priced. will be going again for sure.

We were out in town one day around lunchtime and literally stumbled across this little café / pie and mash shop by accident while considering the pub opposite. I will keep this review short but to the point. I had liver and bacon and my partner had lasagne. Well, the food arrived which was freshly cooked and in a no time at all, we couldn't believe our eyes. The portions were enormous but absolutely lovely. My liver and bacon arrived with mash and a selection of veg and the lasagne with chips and a very healthy portion of salad. My liver and bacon was the best I have had in a long long while if not the best ive ever had. The lasagne was just right and steaming hot too. All in all, a little gem of a café that I would certainly recommend. Were our plates empty at the end. Yes, but it was hard work but we simply couldn't leave it. WonderfulWill we return. Absolutely, YES.10/10.

Empty plates say it all. Robbins was closed so went here and pleased I did. Smooth mash, flavoursome liquor and nice wholesome home made pies. Sorry Robins I am coming here from now on!

I had a huge all day breakfast and my wife had prawn sandwiches. The food was lovely, ample, and not greasy !A busy, vibrant place, the staff are friendly and hardworking !

Great value, prompt service recommend highly. I had a vegetarian breakfast and the portion was more than ample. Great cup of tea too

Visited here for lunch on a Sunday. Great menu including pie and mash, all day breakfasts and a Sunday lunch for £5.50. Very clean, very polite staff, a must visit if you are in the area.

We were looking for somewhere that did a good breakfast at a good price, and we found it. Food was excellent, service was good and we didnt have to wait long. They also served a good cup of tea. Wish we had gone back there for dinner instead of the rubbish fish and chips we had !!!My only criticism if you can call it that, would be that they whipped our plates away almost as soon as we had put our knife and fork down.

service is not great, food is poor, sausages are very poor quality, you could easily make something better at home.

Came here the last time about 10 years ago and the service & food were AWFUL. However, really fancied a quick lunch the other day and thought we’d give it another chance (it HAS been a decade after all…). Brilliant. Pie & Mash very good. Tastes authentic and relatively inexpensive. One note - menus on the tables generally means waitress service, which the cafe doesn’t do, and there are no signs to let you know you have to order at the clounter. Apart from that though, great :)

This friendly Café has a large menu ranging from Full English, Burgers, Jacket potato and roast dinner but most people were having the Pie and Mash, even for breakfast. Large portions of hot tasty food at a reasonable price in a clean environment with friendly waiting staff. Pie eel and mash for £6.20 all served with liqueur.
