I had my 30th birthday at ExCellar and it was brilliant. I felt the pricing was reasonable and the atmosphere was great. They allowed me to bring 10 easels and set up artwork around the venue and we’re flexible with every little request I had. Staff on the night were excellent and Kathryn’s organisation on the night and leading up to the event was amazing. Thank you so much!

Jazz Sessions ExCellar Wine Merchants - 28 February Simon Baile has a growing reputation across Surrey for promoting high quality live music at his 2 thriving ExCellar sites. Simon is a genuine music lover and if you ask him he will admit first and foremost he is a Jazz fiend. I think inside he is actually a frustrated Jazz musician. Much like me really as a frustrated rock star. Last year Simon took the plunge and decided to put on live Jazz sessions at the Kingston venue and the big question was; would the people come? The resounding answer is yes and now these gigs become sell outs and latterly Simon has a waiting list. Not only that but the word is spreading and Jazz musicians themselves are wanting an invite to perform here and that is because it is just such an incredible venue with an intimate Jazz club vibe. Then with Simon’s non negotiable house rule of; you can talk before the gig, talk during the interval and talk after the gig but zip it when the artists are performing. This actually cuts both ways as it is respectful to the artists and for the audience it really does enhance the experience. Other musos may want a slice of the pie but options will be limited all the time the ‘house band’ of Pete Roth a sublime guitarist and bass maestro Stefan Redtenbacher want the gig because they are superb individually and as a duo, they have a musical telepathy. The guys are obviously well connected in the Jazz community so they always invite special guests to build the sound and tonight we had the treat of Saxophonist Rob Fowler and drummer Matt Home. The gig comprised two super sets and the music spanned the Jazz genre from fluid flowing instrumentation to laid back languid lines with smooth instrumentation, atmospheric Jazz balladry and a rare but vivid addition, some Latino style Jazz. I always associate a Saxophonist with Jazz and Rob was the perfect guest as he flooded out pathways of evocative sounds that floated on the air. Matt’s drumming style was loose, free flowing and vibrant. Pete and Stefan did what they always do, which is dial in with their guests and make terrific music. Pete’s touch and tone is masterful and deeply melodic. Stefan is the ‘Ace of Bass’ and he creates rich deep bass lines that joins the band together. The two improvised superbly with Rob and Matt. Another triumph of a night and Martin and I are indebted to Simon, the 4 artists that entertained us and Simon’s team that worked so hard on our behalf.

The new gentleman was super attentive, a breath of fresh air. Been coming for over a decade and he is by far the best so far. However, I ordered a one shot white americano. A lady served me a one shot flat white, offered to change it, but then I got the americano with cold milk. The brownie was yummy and feel the cakes offer could be updated, it's been the same or very similar for over a decade now. Music is really odd as well, always . Thanks!

I had my birthday party at Excellar, Surbiton recently and it was a wonderful night. Kathryn was really helpful on the lead up to the event with helpful suggestions on catering and drinks, how to decorate the space and flexible on any entertainment we used (in the end it was a Spotify playlist which I was able to use on the sound system). The space was a perfect size for the number of guests and it looked great in the evening with the fairy lights (theirs) and balloons (mine). Kathryn and the team were really attentive during the evening, keeping drinks topped up and serving food. Several people told me that the brownies were the best they'd tasted! Excellar is a great spot for a party and close to Surbiton station so accessible for any people travelling to the venue. Highly recommend!

Mediocre at best. Where do I start? It was our first visit, and when I went up to the till to find out if there was table service, I was ignored (there was no queue). My husband ordered poached eggs on sourdough and it was basic - I can do better at home. I ordered Serrano ham - it came shredded in tiny pieces (🤨) scattered on a ring of rocket (not mentioned in the description) with a bowl of some overly balsamicky dressing in the middle. Beyond awful. It’s a wine bar but can’t get charcuterie right. Beyond awful.

Decent coffee but not enough staff so service is slow. The girl at the till was unable to answer my question about what was in the quiche and made no attempt to find out. Also it’s very off putting when it is always completely steamed up and has condensation dripping down the windows so you can’t even see out- other cafes don’t have this issue- really not ideal at this time of year when so many people are ill. Need to invest in ventilation/extractor fan and staff who know about the food

We came in for a coffee and cake. As it is our anniversary today, we asked the young blonde girl (wearing a pink top) who delivered our coffee to take a photo of us... She said absolutely not, I'm busy! And she walked away... There were five or six staff floating around the place, no-one too busy. There were tables that have not been cleared all the time we sat there. The staff were not too busy to chat but clearly too busy to clear tables or take a photo for a customer. We won't be back.

I’ve been here for lunch many times, but came here for dinner for the first time this evening and I wasn’t disappointed. The staff were as lovely as ever, and the food was superb. As a carnivore completing veganuary, I had the “all but” pizza which was so delicious and flavoursome that I would even have it again when I’m not doing veganuary! Though my mum had the margherita with added chorizo and raved at the manchego addition to her pizza, so I may have to try that first…!

Had lots of great meals here over the last few years, fantastic pizzas and great sandwiches (although stingy and overpriced tapas).Today though my tuna melt was distinctly underwhelming. A spoonful of tuna swamped in mayo with a crumble of rather unpleasant cheap cheddar was not the same sandwich as a couple of months ago. Don't downgrade guys. If you need to increase the prices, do, but keep the quality.

If I were the manager of Excellar I would not leave the staff unattended. They were rude and didn't listen, when we pointed out their mistake they were argumentative. Three of us went for joint birthdays, the only reason we didn't leave was because it was raining and we were determined not to let the staff spoil our day. The girl with the "sand soccer" t shirt needs to take a chill pill or retrain for a job that doesn't involve interacting with other people. It wasn't just us, they were rude to the people on the next table too.

The food is atrocious. The pizza I ordered was supposed to contain basil and sun dried tomatoes. There was basil, but it was ground, dried basil, and there were no sun dried tomatoes, only fresh cherry ones. The zucchini was very thickly cut and hard to bite into. No interaction with staff (we ordered a bottle of wine and we poured it ourselves) so the tip screen when paying felt rude.

We visited this place recently we had their pizza which is amazing and worth going for. For this I would happily give 5 stars to the chef. The reason for 3 stars overall was when we found the bottle of wine we wanted the waitress did not inform that there is a £15 corkage charge to drink it on site. This was almost as expensive as the wine. We would have happily have paid it if we were told this on ordering as other wine places do when we visit. When we challenged this we were told there is a sign on a small chalkboard to inform us of this!! I think this is terrible the sign is so small if it wasn’t pointed out when we challenged we would not have seen this!! You need to make your signs bigger or tell the client the price on the bottle plus £15 when they order. If someone was blind or unable to see properly this would be wrong. They did refund it after arguing, but it did ruin a lovely day we had.

Come here all the time for a coffee and to bring my laptop to work in. Very friendly staff with a massive array of wines and a real sun trap on the tables out the front. My only complaint would be the cheese and onion toasty that I got a few weeks ago that was 90% caramelised onion and 10% cheese which when I mentioned to the waiter I was told that the kitchen was “running out of cheese”. Not the end of the world but they could have just run over the road to the sainsburys and bought some more if that short rather than serving it like this! A mild complaint in an otherwise brilliant place.

Visited here for linch with a friend last week. Seating was sparce because many of the tables are large (searing for <6). Beautiful large windows for street watching and one wall full of wines. Reminder the place serves as a half wine shop, all prices are for takeaway with extra charged added for corkage. We had to order at bar counter, which was fine, if I wasn't standing there watching the only two staff make coffees & ignoring me till i asked for service! Ordered to potato & leek soup & two tea. Cost of £23. (Soup £7 each) Soup was moreish & tasty homemade, unfortunately the thin toasted bread came buttered, which I couldn't eat. Don't like butter. My friend just had enough for his soup in the double portion. Mixed crowd of mums&babies, elderly ladies (who like to take a long lunchs) and young office workers. The crowd might change in evening, as it offers different variety topped pizzas. The staff never done table checked back, said hello or goodbye, no interaction. There is one toilet for all, than needs a good clean, upgrade & revamp. Overall very disappointing. Only thing going for it is the high ceiling and fantastic windows.

It's a wine shop which does brunch/serves food like a restaurant. We had brunch here late November and it was ok. One notable thing is that the salmon breakfast pizza at shy of £16 is not worth the cost - it sounded interesting on paper, but the pizza was nothing special. Awful in literally every way. We waited 30 minutes for our drinks. Food arrived first, drinks ten minutes later (40 mins after order). We were served food without cutlery and had to get up and ask for it. 4 staff serving about 12 people, so how they're that bad is beyond me. Coffee was burnt and I'm not even a fussy coffee drinker. The pancakes were bland and had a vast lack of chocolate sauce they're advertised with. I'd honestly rather break my own jaw than come back here.

My favourite thing about it is ambience, decor is french country, and theres always lots of warm light flooding through big windows. Another good thing is they have outdoor space which not many places on the highstreet do. You'd think for a Saturday night, with pre-booked tables, that they wouldn't allow 3 new (and clearly terrified) young students run the joint, with an extremely moody duty Manager to pick up the pieces for them. We were a group of 6, and two of us were served our food 20 minutes before anyone else. Unacceptable, when the other dishes were just charcuterie. I completely love this place so much. Prithi down the road is far inferior. Their curries are watery, flavourless, and their naan was soggy like moss near a lake. Agra uses delicious spices and aromas, which is nice and makes me happy like Christmas or buying discounted mayonnaise. The waiters' petite frames allow rapid nimble maneuvers, ensuring all tables are aptly catered for and orders are delivered promptly. The naga chill is hot and balanced and the rice yummy and scrumptious... always on point. The decor is quite breathtaking in some respects, with proper authentic curry house designs inside and out. Prices are highly competitive, so all in all, this place is hard to beat. If you live nearby, it's close to you which makes it easy to get to which is nice, like back scratches and waterproof plasters. 11/10 love it lots and lots ❤️

Fantastic local place. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the fish and chips. It isn't you're average meal. It's huge and every part is cooked to perfection. Onion rings are fantastic as well. While £5 seemed steep, the potion is enough for 2 adults. High quality through and though. Nice interior, staff, and other food. A wonderful local gem. Still deserving of the 1979 Pub of the year award it proudly displays on the entrance.
