Such a joy to find a place like this – a perfect little spot to take a breather from the busy streets and crowds, while still being in the heart of the city. Good coffee, lovely peanut butter brownie, and the friendliest service from, I'm guessing, the owner, who, I can tell, runs the place with his heart truly in it. Definitely recommend, and I'll come back for sure.

At the heart of historic Cambridge but the on a tranquil small lane from the bustling throngs with a beautiful view of the church (and magnolia). Homemade food look amazing (Moroccan lamb stew and mocha brownie?!). Will come back to try them next time! And the items will rotate and change. Macchiato is pretty good. Topped with lovingly steamed foam. Despite the mixed reviews, the espresso today is pretty balanced. Strong, with a fresh acidity and not bitter at all.

What a fantastic little place! We were short on time and money, looking for an inexpensive lunch and found this little gem. A warm welcome from the owner with great coffee and toasties. Friendly chat and advice on where else to visit. Vegan and vegetarian options.

The only place in Cambridge I go for coffee

Lovely little small coffee shop with lovely vibes and regulars who are always willing to chat to pass the time. It's not an upmarket fancy coffee shop but it's cozy and the owner cares about what he does. Next time I'll have to try some of the tempting cakes that are out on display.

Good place for a take-away coffee. Fast service. I also like to stop and sit down when I have time. Good coffee, Mocha's great and cakes and food are fresh (nothing with the same shelf life as Buck Rodgers)

Fantastic coffee, I can highly recommend if you are looking for delicious drink and nice chat.

The service was friendly, but it was the worst coffee I’ve ever had. Ordered an iced oat latte, it was foamy and slightly blended. The oat milk used tasted very bad, and overall tasted nothing like coffee at all. I threw the whole drink away, completely undrinkable. Sad to waste a drink and £4.

Picture this, a seven mile cycle ride on a Summers day into the beautiful City of Cambridge and when you arrive you get to order an Americano and a slice of banana cake and sit outside on a quirky Cambridge side street with views of lovely quirky buildings, peacefully watching the busy traffic go by somewhere at the end of the street. For me a little piece of heaven and I'm glad I found this place. The cafe owner was friendly and the coffee and cake delightful. Well recommended!

Nice and very central place to grab a good cup of coffee and hot chocolate. The owner is very friendly and you have a view of a small garden across the walkway.

My son found this wonderful place in the summer and raved about it. He then took my wife who said it was the best coffee she’d ever had. I’ve finally been too and they were both right! Wonderful coffee and cakes and fabulous service! Will return!

Popped in for a quick espresso whilst on a walk. Based on the reviews and ratings I was really expecting a great espresso. Unfortunately, the cup was really not that great. Over extracted, as can be evidenced in the amount of liquid nearly double what I would expect from an espresso. Overall very bad taste. Wouldn't recommend unfortunately. Nice spot nonetheless.

This is my 'local' when I'm in Cambridge, so I've been here dozens of times. It's not just the coffee - which is well made, always - and it's not just the food - which is tasty and original, not pre-packed. It's the atmosphere of welcoming, the sense of a good place to take a well needed break. It's small. Tiny, really. Sometimes the best places are like that. But there's a seat or two outside, a view of the church, and good company to be had, even if you're not in a chatty mood. And if it's full, come back later. You'll be glad you did.

This little cafe is almost hiding in plain sight. Ended up spending some quality time enjoying an espresso and a yummy banana cake. These days I am spoiled for a choice of specialty beans, Espresso Lane offers just one selection (Hobson's choice kind of thing), still thoroughly enjoyed it!

This coffee shop is just off the main street and over looks the church yard. A few small outside tables available made it a pleasant place to stop for coffee. They have a range of snacks as well. Good service with real coffee cups brought to your table once ordered indoors .

Stopped off on a cold walk of Cambridge, the homemade spicy tomato soup was so good I had to go back and buy more to take home!

I was so happy I came across this place. The man who runs this place was friendly, welcoming and very helpful! My first choice was unavailable, and having said I was vegetarian, I was advised and suggested that I might like a particular alternative. The cheesy, veggie toasted baguette I was given was so fresh and delicious, I couldn’t have asked for more. It made such a refreshing change to go in a cafe and receive such positive customer service, and the food was worth it compared to paying an extortionate amount of money for something wrapped in plastic from Pret or Starbucks. Please go to this amazing place!

Popped in for lunch after seeing the chalkboard sign at the end of the lane, and I'm so glad I did! The soup was delicious and exactly what was needed on a rainy day, loved the music playing and the owner was very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Cambridge!

My sister, niece and I came across this wonderful café by chance today - and are so glad we did! We all had a delicious lunch - 2 x organic chicken broth, and 1 x tuna ciabatta toastie. Everything was definitely home-made - a slight wait for the food, but SO worth it! A really friendly owner, great music in the background, and a really happy, cosy café vibe - couldn't ask for anything more! We'll definitely be back on our next visit to Cambridge. 😊

I don't live or work near Engin's lovely café, but I try and make a point of going from time to time. The coffee is always perfect, and the food simple and delicious, and brilliant value too. Do go - you'll be really glad you discovered Espresso Lane.

I've missed chats with the chap who runs this shop (who I believe is called Engin?) as I've been in lockdown and not allowed to come back to work. Delighted now I'm back to see he's reopened; the coffee's good, the baguettes and ciabatte are all nice and fresh (try the hummus and roasted vegetable one), the mocha brownie I had today was good, too, and the owner is just lovely. Whole-heartedly recommend supporting this tiny independent shop.

Am delighted to find that this little gem of a cafe has recently reopened - even if just on a take-away basis at the moment. Some of the best coffee in town, including iced options, and tasty baguettes, cakes and ice creams on offer as well. The owner is as cheerful and friendly as ever, in spite of the huge dip in trade, so if you are in the area do pop by to see if there is something to suit your taste.

We happened on this place today and so glad we did. A very emotional day for us as our dog was in the university vet hospital. The proprietor really cheered us up as we discussed disco and soul music which we love, whilst enjoying his excellent coffee and cake. This place is a little hidden gem in every sense and we hope to return. T & G

Just popped in for the first time and had delicious spicy tomato soup for lunch. Perfect, unpretentious spot and a really warm welcome. Don't contribute to the marketing budget of global corporations, contribute to the local economy and support a great business.

Brilliant little coffee and sandwich shop. Delicious, simple food, and always bustling (take away is cheaper), with a few tables of locals eating in. Affordably priced, close to university buildings. The owner is also very knowledgeable about his products. I have life threatening peanut, soy, and shellfish allergies, and he was able to cater to me no problem. Gluten free options also available. No products currently served on today's menu had tree nuts in them, though I don't know whether that's always the case. I'll be coming back often!

Nice cafe in the center of Cambridge University. It’s quite pleasant and quiet, despite being close to a big street, and their coffee was pretty good (and strong!). The service was friendly and fast. It’s quite small though, so don’t count on finding space for large groups.

Went in and had the most lovely exchange with the owner, he was polite and accommodating and made conversation and jokes and it was so nice. Coffee was loooovely and the sandwiches and snacks look amazing. 10/10 would recommend

Don’t go and crowd my favourite coffee corner, with great caffeine and sandwich at affordable prices served by a most friendly chap.

I work in town and get a takeaway sandwich from here every so often. The owner's always friendly and good for a chat, and the baguettes are really nice and fresh, and not pricey (£2.25 for a tuna, mayo and rocket, for example). If he's run out of something he'll make more. Lovely ciabatta with hummus and roasted peppers, too. I haven't tried a coffee yet but given the other reviews I shall do so!

Lovely coffee, lovely food, and great service. If you're ever in town and feel the urge for some caffeine I would recommend you check this place out, slightly hidden just between Pembroke and Corpus Christi college. Skip the large coffee chains and go to this excellent independent! Yum.
