We visited for some lunch during the craft fair, there was a long wait for the food but I think the staff were struggling with the unusually high volume of customers so can’t blame them. It was quite cold with the door opening and closing, but again caused by the amount of people coming in and out for coffees etc. I had the gammon and chutney sandwich and was pleasantly surprised to find the gammon was warm, absolutely delicious! The home made chutney was excellent too. Will return when visiting house of dun for a walk again

Spacious cafe in the grounds of The House of Dun. We all had the soup of the day which was lentil and which came with a selection of oatcakes or different bread and butter. Coffee was good and a nice selection of cakes.

Visited after tour of House. Very filling sandwiches (ham and blt) with cucumber and tomatoes from the garden. Good coffee too. Unfortunately didn’t have room for delicious looking cakes!

Enjoyed a lovely lunch prior to our fascinating tour of the House of Dun. The pulled gammon and chutney sandwich with salad was very tasty.

Had lunch here. Menu had a good choice which was well presented. Good value for money and nice sized portions. Could get as much or as little as you wanted.

Beautiful location but had to pay £3 to park before access to the cafe. Friendly reception from the staff but too cold to sit inside on a warm sunny day so we sat outside at a picnic table in the courtyard in the sun. Hearty food at reasonable prices. Unfortunately a noisy lawn mower spoiled the atmosphere & for 20 minutes conversation was out! Shame it was deployed during lunch. Maybe chose the wrong day - and the alcohol licence was still being applied for!

Called into Erskine's before visiting the house. Had the soup and sandwich which was very nice. There was a choice of two souls, both homemade and very tasty. Service was excellent and staff welcoming and obviously happy in their work

Enter from the car park towards the main public entrance, ignoring the rather unsightly but authentic wooden game larder. Identify by name, without any indication of what it is ( apart from a paper notice attached to a tree), and you will find a friendly welcoming cafe with a good range of snacks. We were offered a good baked potato in two halfs,as one generous helping was too much for my wife and myself. The coffee was good, but not over hot. Interesting copy photos and posters around the walls, and generally a warm and friendly atmosphere, Toilets available nearby.

Located by the ticket office at the House of Dun , Erskine's provides a welcome service at the NTS gem. The tea and scones were fine - i note that afternoon tea is available some afternoons. There is plenty of seating inside and out. Ice creams are available.

I arrived around 2:10pm and it was hard to find a clear table - rubbish on nearly all of them. I placed my order at 2:18pm (have the receipt to note time) and was told that the soup was finished for the day. No worries there as I was just intending to get a sandwich. Ordered cheese and pickle, a pot of tea, and a tiffin piece. I waited 40 minutes to receive my order. I could not figure out why it would have taken more than 10 minutes to put the plate together or, at the very least, bring the pot of tea and tiffin. I was not the only one with this problem, as others had been waiting even longer. I understand that the kitchen was having difficulties for the day and the cafe was understaffed, but it was exceptionally long for something so very very simple. The food itself was quite tasty and I enjoyed it very much once I got it.

We arrived at The House of Dun rather late for lunch after driving from Johnshaven. It was 2.15, so just in time before the kitchen closed for soup and snacks at 2.30. We ordered sandwiches and were served with wooden boards on which was salad, crisps, homemade coleslaw. The sandwich filling chosen were mature cheddar and homemade chutney. My husband's sandwich was made from two thick, brown slices of a Cobb with a thick serving of filling. I was served with two gluten free ciabatta, again filled to overflowing! Delicious as was the coffee. I was amazed to only be charged just over £11 for such huge portions and quality coffee! After 2.30 cakes and teas, coffee are served either inside or outside. Recommended to all!

Gorgeous battered chicken fillets and a fresh fillet of fish. The service was superb and the quality of the food was second to none. We even managed to get a portion of scraps. Best fish and chips we’ve both had in a long time and reasonably priced in comparison to Aberdeen.

We both had a very pleasant full breakfast on 29/10/24 in Purdy’s & were served by two ladies who were very welcoming. Good value. Good vibe. We will definitely go back Thank you!

Attached to the Forfar Golf Driving Range, this cafe/restaurant is always busy and, for some reason, despite it being carpeted, is usually quite noisy! The menu is fairly standard with filled rolls, sandwiches, paninis, soup, baked potatoes etc. Prices are reasonable and the service is usually very good. It is light and airy due to the large windows at one end. I like it in part, as I can see the rural house I grew up in from it in the distance.

We were there for Christmas Dinner yesterday everything was lovely except for the Brussels sprouts which were too hard and I saw the sprouts were left on a number of plates from nearby tables but the service was excellent when I booked I told them I was on crutches and they accommodated me very well. I can't say enough good things about the staff as they were excellent in all respects
