Ephesus BBQ & Meze Bar in Crawley

This place never disappoints. Great food, excellent service and nothing too much effort. We were served by Marius. He was very funny, cheeky and excellent company. My friend was partially sighted and he made sure we picked a table in the light as it helps her see more. Fantastic on the spur of the moment visit.

The food was great, good portion and delicious, with a lovely side salad. It doesn't look fancy when you come in, but the food made up for it. However...... The guy who took our order acted like he would rather be anywhere else in the world than there. A real contrast to the other staff.

I have been there Saturday with some friends, food was OK but the staff has no patience with customers, customers service is below the average but food is fine.

Came here last week. Good service and great food. Portions are big and food is lovely. Reasonably priced as well so can’t go wrong

we had the cold mezze selection, shared between us and then a mixed grill for 1 shared. Enough to eat for both. Top quality and enough to eat. Staff was good.

I'm taking my families out yesterday .food wasn't good ..service below average. Plate r dirty.69 p can coke charge £2.95.we r 6 people booked at and did get discounts what government provided...send a prove .disgusting

Really disappointed, Food was ok but not well presented and late. We came as a family of 14, 7 of which were kids and ordered jugs of water, we only got 1 jug but after asking repeatedly for glasses didn’t get any so kids had no drink with food and when asked to speak to manager he didn’t show. Really poor form.

We had a birthday party with our friends and had a great time. The food was amazing and the entertainment was really nice. We had a great time. I want say thank you.

If this is only 122 out of 310 restaurants in Crawley, the I can’t wait to try the other better 121. I came here a few months ago upon recommendation

We have now been to this restaurant several times throughout this year and have now introduced friends who travel to Turkey with us and Family that have not. Those friends who do have complimented how fantastic the food is and how authentic it is to that of what we eat in Turkey and the atmosphere. Family who now wish to travel to Turkey to experience what we do.We will be visiting Ephesus on a regular basis if the standards of food and service remain as is.It is truley by far our favourite night out and place to entertain family and friends.Keep it up Guys and Gals

Another great meal and service here. Food can't be faulted for flavour, quantity and value. The place was packed on a Tuesday early evening which kind of says it all.

This restaurant was recommended to us & we were not disappointed, we loved the food, so much choice & very tasty. We have been back several times. All the staff are friendly and welcoming I would definitely recommend it.

My friend and I had lunch their today for the first and last time. Charged us for something we didn't order. Food was cold even though it was empty. No flavour in the food. List goes on ! Management please allow your staff to smile...

There's a bit of confusion here. The piccies definitely show the ex Black Dog PH now Efes BBQ and Meze but the page still refers to Tilgate? Either way both are pretty good. For space and covers the Northgate one is vast. Tilgate, much smaller but good on service and atmosphere. Tried the newer one- Efes, a couple of weeks ago. Saturday night for a 7.30pm sit down. Manic in there but enjoyable. The food as usual was plentiful and very good overall- although I may avoid going for fish next time as whereas one appreciates its going to be grilled or barbecued I didn't expect it to be cremated. Very mixed team in there age wise, got the impression some of the younger members were still learning the ropes. Lively banter with one of the bosses on arrival- all good fun. Yes, very welcoming friendly place.. Worth a return visit to either/or. At least at Northgate you don't have the bother of lugging your own hooch into the place....

It's a Tuesday evening around 7 pm,only two tables had customers and there were two waiters.The person who showed us to our table didn't even bother to get the menu!We waited for 15 min and the other person came but he didn't come to us but was trying to clean the table next to us we asked for the menu and he gave it and went away but didn't come again.There were two other customers who came after us a family and a couple. He was very polite and accomadating to them and really forgot about us.The first person then came and asked about the drinks but we didn't have the drink menu. We just ordered the food and food came quite quickly.food was ok.coffee and drink was acceptable quality.Just felt neglected through the whole dining experience. Nobody came to us to ask if we need any thing or how's the food.We just asked for the bill and left.Left a pound tip for the poor service!Poor service lets down your food and I don't feel like going there again as it was my idea to go for dinner tonight. The two star is for the chef .

2nd visit in 2 weeks, lovely restaurant with great food and lovely people. Especially Alex who also does his best to make you feel comfortable and makes sure everything is going smoothly. Very nice and chatty and make the whole experience so much better.

One of the many times we have come to this restaurant and it never fails to amaze me! The food is so good, I want to know the secret recipe for making the rice taste so good! Alex, one of our waiters for the evening, was so helpful and polite! Give this man a promotion!!

I don't usually leave reviews but the experience too good not to. The food was really good and filling, we had the efes special for 2, really flavourful and very well cooked, the lamb was juicy and fell apart in the mouth.

My other half and I went on a date here and we had the most wonderful time. The food was just amazing, 10/10 as it was fresh, had so much flavour and the portions were very generous! We had the pleasure of being served by Alex who was super friendly, funny and made a real effort to make our meal enjoyable, we had the best time. We would definitely come back here again very soon!

Food is delicious. Big fan of the chicken and lamb shish combo, which is cooked perfectly. The complimentary bread is fluffy and goes down nicely with the spicy sauce. Service also very good.

This is the second time we've visited the restaurant for a lunch and its been great every time. On both occasions we've had the very generous special with loads of meat (wings, kofte, chicken and lamb shish and lamb chops). This is accompanied with rice, salad, bread and sauces.

We love this place. Staff and service was very good. We have eaten here 4 times now and never had a problem. We have he share platter and it’s beautiful.

I have eaten here before a few times and the food has been good. Service could have been better but you get past it for the food.

Popped in with friends for a meal and drinks. It was a Friday night and the place was fairly busy with entertainment on. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the home made bread was a particular highlight. The service and entertainment was great and we all had a great night thanks would definitely recommend.

Too many waiters dealing with the table caused the order to be messed up. Waited 1/2 hour for order to be taken. Took a further hour to serve table. Wrong food given. When questioned we were told that as the elderly family members had started to eat the wrong food it was tough! They were not aware it was wrong as they didn’t understand the menu.

Had lamb and it was lovely with the bread. Came with rice but it was the sort of fat cheap rice you get in canteens which was a shame as opposed to the fluffy white rice you normally get.

We came here tonight to get a takeaway and ordered three small hot dishes and one main dish. We were told it was going to take 25 minutes to get our food and we could grab a drink whilst we were waiting. So we agreed and went to get a drink. We were waiting for a long time to get a drink because one man was cleaning the glasses and the other was making cocktails. We then waited for an hour and went up and said it’s been an hour and the guy nodded and never came back so we spoke to the guy that originally made our order and he apologised and came back and said it’ll be another 5 minutes. We then got it over an hour later and went home ( which is 5 mins down the road) opened it up and it was all cold? The koftas were cold and burnt and the pitta that was mixed in with the sauce in our chicken shish was so soggy it had turned into mush. Very disappointing !

I went there with my family for lunch and the food was very poor,my meat came out uncooked and I still had to pay for it.its easy to make mistakes but that doesn’t mean you got to pay for there mistake,not good at all.

Slow service but worth waiting for. The barbecued meats are delicious. Simple but authentic Turkish food. Could not fault the meal. Expensive for what you get.

Food was average..full of Turkish men perving over female customers but however the entertainment in the form of a singer called Paul Cassey made the evening a pleasant experience and interacted with the audience.. not fully appreciated and too classy for a refurbished pub In northgate.

There was a party of 11 of us that turned up at this restaurant on a Sunday lunchtime. We were very much welcomed and tables were put closer together for our benefit.

2nd time ive been here and regretfully have to say that i have noticed that the portions are now getting smaller and the costs getting higher. why do all restaurants end up this way? Left feeling wanting this time, such a shame.

Why have a really loud singer in a restaurant. I came here with 14 friends to enjoy a birthday. I may as well have been in a nightclub as could barely hear the person next to me. The food was very average but priced according. Had to ask for the bread at least 4 times (waiter probably couldn't hear us!) and salads that accompanied the meal turned up when most of us had finished. The evening was topped off by a very drunk 'regular' who harassed us and should have been asked to leave. Quite frankly the worst dining experience I have had in a very long tine.

I enjoyed a very satisfying meal here as part of an 8 person group.

In a converted old pub in the corner of a parade of shops, the website says plenty of parking, but at 7pm on a Saturday we really struggled and ended up in some back street a couple of roads away - not the nicest area to walk around in the dark.

Why I like the concept and the service and atmosphere is amazing it just isn't my thing I'm not the greatest lover of lamb and I find the chicken dishes all of it similar. And I wouldn't consider it fantastic value for money I'm afraid.

The venue is beautiful. Plenty of parking. The food is gorgeous but presentation is shocking. Good job the taste out ways the look of it. If they got their presentation sorted which would take little effort it would be 5*. The food was delicious. Fresh, flavourful and lovely quality. Definitely going back! Wish they would up date their bar. The choice is 20 years out of date.

We had our Christmas party there and enjoyed our time. Started off with drinks at the bar and moved across to our table, where the service was fast and friendly. I can highly recommend the mixed grill as it was tasty and very fulling. Truly a great evening with a modern atmosphere and I will be back with the family and some of my customers.

We use both restaurants, the Tilgate and Northgate one. The entertainment at the Northgate site is fab, well stocked wine bar and food top notch, you wont leave hungry

The place is modern and staff are professional. Service was timely, and the food was brilliant. I've been to Turkey and speaking to the owner I can tell they have really tried to bring the authentic food to this town.

Have eaten here a few times now, well what can I say its so nice to have something other than pasta in the Crawley area.

Lovely clean restaurant with a nice interior. The steak I had was cooked very well and was succulent and tender. Portion sizes are quite large. It was very quite at lunch time but the food was very tasty and the waiter was nice and friendly.

The Ephesus is located in what was formerly a pretty grotty pub by all accounts. The place has been thoroughly renovated. Diners can see into the kitchen, good size bar and the restaurant is spotlessly clean.

This is a good Turkish restaurant. Was enjoying my food until the singer came on. It ruined the atmosphere of a Turkish restaurant. Why would you have someone singing Elvis songs etc in a Turkish restaurant? . The music was so loud and then the waitress started to sing too which was unusual. Glad I was seated at the back and not the front as it was that loud I wouldn’t of been able to hear anything else .

Just got home from having a meal at Ephesus, fantastic food and great staff. Do yourself a favour and check it out. Many thanks.

We eat here at least twice a month either in house or takeaway. The food is absolutely amazing every time. Service second to none. Would definitely recommend this place 100%

This place was an exciting experience. The food is new for my family and me. The barbecue and the kaftas are superbs.

Second visit on the spur of the moment. Friendly welcome, early so plenty of room. Drink menu offered and served quickly. Given time to choose meals. We are vegetarian so chose garlic mushrooms and mixed olives as starters. Large portions and then bread and dips arrived. Very tasty. We had the vegetarian kebab, which was spicy and came with rice and salad and the roasted aubergine. A lovely meal which we could not finish as we also ordered fries, so had to pass on dessert. As vegetarians we don't often get a good meal so this was thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely visit again.

We received a warm and friendly welcome and then had the most wonderful meal. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff efficient and attentive. We were only visiting the area but wished we lived nearer so we could eat there more often. Thank you for a superb evening.

We went after a long walk and had tasty starters and mains for two. Tasty grilled meats of chops, ribs and chicken with rice, salad and flat bread.

The food us amaizing is like home cook and the taste is great, the service and the staff is just amaizing, management is always present in the floor and the barman is great always full smile and the waitresses and delivery people of food is great. Thanks always coming back!

Visited on a Friday night with friends, including some we hadn't seen for a long time, as you can imagine we had lots to catch up on, what a shame that the entertainment which was laid on was so loud we struggled to have a conversation.

We felt welcome as soon as we walked in. The service and staff are brilliant. The food is amazing, and the service was perfect. The music entertainment was funny and engaging we laughed so much!! Unfortunately my wife started feeling uncomfortable when a table right next to the dance floor was filled with Turkish looking blokes who was only interested in watching the girls dance, which is why all the girls stopped dancing. Apart from the perv table it was a great night. If there was no perv table my wife would take her friends there for a night out.

Finally got around to trying out Ephesus and was not disappointed. All three of us had the mixed kebab. Very nicely, lots of meat, good value for money. Nice staff, nice ambience. Will definitely return!

Its not often that you get a place to eat and be entertained at the same unless you go into London.

We visited this restaurant last night, the food was lovely, but the evening was spoilt by the very loud music. Unfortunately we wont be returning for that reason.

The restaurant is beautifully done. Very welcoming and I love that you can see the food cooking. Service was great, polite, on the ball staff. Food came fast and fresh. Some of the best Turkish food I have tasted. All the meat had amazing flavours and the portions were generous. Priced reasonably. Will definitely return.

So been here twice now and the food is absolutely lovely cant go wrong but the service is too much. we had more then one waiter ask us for drinks even thoigh we said give us a few mins and then the same happened with ordering food. Then one of them had the cheek to say come on then you must be ready now!! staff could do with a bit of laying back not constantly going at the customers but food 5*!

I was in a large group and sat at a table of nine within that same overall contingent. We had pre-booked a starter selection as well as a barbecued meat main with some vegetarian main dishes as well. The main dishes were all fine, plentiful and tasty but slightly slow in arriving. It was a Saturday evening.

Having owned a basic takeaway / unlicensed cafe style place on the other side of town (Tilgate) the same owners have done up a previously grotty pub into a smarter restaurant serving similar dishes to their other site but in a nicer, more comfortable setting. Think big portions of fresh, succulent charcoal grilled meats, rice, salads, breads, etc. with a small selection of tasty meze style starters. To be honest you can't really go wrong with this sort of food, it's fresh tasting, slightly different to what you can do at home, and the place has a friendly, informal atmosphere. Retaining part of the pub as a bar must make it popular with the locals and makes it a place where you can spend a whole evening. Service the day we went was slightly unpracticed (we went a few days after opening) but nevertheless definitely recommended.

Food was good, presentation was poor, had to keep reminding them of missing side dishes, service was ok. First time for us, but 2nd visit for our friends that took us, embarrassed that it was not quite up to standard again, as it was the same for them on the 1st visit. We will give one more try and see.

If you are looking for a great Turkish restaurant with a good variety of dishes on offer, then this is restaurant is for you.

First visit. Very good attentive service. Delicious food, lots of choice. Complimentary bread, olives and excellent salad. Would be nice to have a bit more choice for veggies. Wine and drinks a reasonable price. Will definitely visit again

We were really impressed with food; good fresh ingredients cooked well. Calamari we're very good and lamb shish kebab really tender. Child sized main course kebabs available. Friendly helpful staff (it was quiet on a Sunday evening so they had time to chat). This is a newly opened and perhaps more up market version of the one in Tilgate - also has the advantage of being licensed.

Visited Saturday night and had a lovely meal. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The Black Dog pub has been over hauled and revamped into a lovely restaurant and bar. There was quite an extensive menu with extras other than the grills. We had cocktails after which were great. We will visit again and try it for a light lunch with the Mezzes. It was like being on holiday. Definately will go back and try out the grills, the portion sizes looked huge.

Great to see the old Black Dog transformed into an attractive, local family restaurant. The food was great and offered at prices that represent great value too. Well done.
