Hispalis in Crawley

Went here for dinner with friends. The food was good and the waiters friendly however it took an age for our food to come. Additionally the toilets were not in a great condition. Worth a visit.

Stumbled across this place whilst staying nearby and what a find! Authentic Spanish food, brilliant.

Fantastic restaurant with amazing authentic food. No question, this is the best Spanish food you’ll ever eat. Lovely staff and a great environment.

I visit Crawley yesterday, my long time no see friend took me to Hispalis straight away. She been there a multiple times, so she knew that this place will not disappoint.Chef must be very passionate because food there, was very delicious and fresh. Portions decent ,quality of food high, we had jug of Sangria which was made per order by lovely waitress and it was one the tastiest Sangria I ever had.

I organised my leaving meal with the owner and staff. They were so helpful and kind and promised to create a fabulous tapas for up to 30 people. The evening was superb and the dishes came out and were a surprise to everyone as we didn’t know what we were going to eat. We had chorizo, pan a la catalana, Patatas bravas, squid, chicken, pardon peppers three types of paella and salad. All food was hot and served efficiently by the happy staff. I can’t thank them enough for such an enjoyable and memorable evening.

I usually go to dine here 1 per 2 months and always is good. Love de pulpo a la gallega and the bread! Great selection of tapas!

Ate here for a celebratory dinner with a large group. Most of us had the group offer (£20/person) allowing you to choose any three tapas dishes per person - saving around £4/person. I went off piste and had the seafood pasta. I loved it. Lots of shell fish, squid and cuttle fish. I must admit, there was a little bit too much chilli, but it didn't spoil it for me (just made me sweat a lot!)We all paid for our dinner separatelt which the staff took in their stride.

I was very impressed in how much the food and service has improved at Hispalis . I must now rate it as a very good place to eat with friends family Or work .Since my first review I have been twice and am deffinately going back

4 stars is for the food only, which was totally beautiful!!! Every dish. However, the service was slow and apparently they can not offer separate bills for group meals. On this occasion there were 4 table pushed together to accommodate our group and we had 4 different couples paying. The toilets had not been monitored at all, all females loos had no tissue so 2 of us were stuck waiting for another lady to get the staff to top it up. This place could be all round excellent if they improve staff to customer ratio.

I've been in this restaurant a few times with my partner and Family and we always had the best time there. Amazing food. Great service . Very centered in town. We always go for the Tapas and it's very tasty, good portion sizes and fair price.Recently came back from Barcelona and going to Hispalis was the best thing close to the authentic Spanish food. The music is so vibrant and makes you want to dance. Definitely recommend the place and the food. Only the sangria needs to be improved.

This is the closest restaurant to the Travelodge where we were staying. We'd had a lunch so decided to call in for a drink and see if we fancied anything to eat.

Fab little restaurant. We had the tapas and as a coeliac then i have to order gluten free food. The staff are really knowledgeable about their food and adapted their food to meet my requirements. Delicious food, good service.

Went to visit this restaurant in Crawley with my parents and unfortunately, my experience could not have been worse.

Went to the bar that they own above, still the tapas. The OWNER was trying to take advantage of me and try it on and I was having none of it and said no and he kicked me and my friends out!!! Also we were dancing and we saw some people doing things with eachother on the dance floor and it was not ok!!! Be ware!

We have visited this delightful restaurant on numerous occasions and each time we have experienced excellent service and delicious food.. accompanied by a very relaxed ambience..you almost feel like you are sat in the Costa del sol, especially when the weather is lovely .. you can enjoy a lovely selection of tapas sat outside with a refreshing drink.. they do a great selection of cocktails too. The restaurant itself is decorated in keeping with the Spanish theme and is fresh and clean. So if you fancy a Spanish meal I would definitely recommend this little gem situated in the heart of Crawley..

We came as a family of 4 and had a lovely meal.

Just been back again because of their lovely staff who take the time to have a joke with you and are very attentive. The food is excellent and very prompt even though we ordered loads. Lovely puddings too.

Great service however the toilets are still freezing and not working with heating and working taps this has been the same for a number of months now

We had booked ahead and with friends took drinks(good choice), and enjoy the quiet ambience, catching up on old times.

Felt very comfortable. Staff are so friendly and food was great 👍 Will definitely be returning. Cocktails are amazing to !

Went here with some friends last night for the first time. Really enjoyed food and atmosphere. Tapas really good selection, and good size portions. Place has a good vibe. Good friendly staff. Would recommend and definitely go back soon.

Being a Spaniard, I was excited when I heard about "spanish restaurant" in Crawley. Well, my expectations went too high. I went once and never again . I don’t think any Spaniard that has came here would ever repeat. If you are vegetarian, It is the last place to go in town. Spanish omelette with prawns? Where in Spain?

What delightful staff. A very good Rioja suggested and four very tasty tapas . Delicious . Now I’m looking at Churros . Oh dear . Just loved the relaxed helpful atmosphere .

It was a cold day in February when I last decided Hispalis is what I need for lunch; it's been a little while since I last dined at here, so i was interested to see how Hispalis had changed with it's 'extension'.

Steamed octopus on bed of mash, perfect. Lovely deep fried crab and salad then finish with lovely fried calamari; accompanied with a tasty glass of Tempanillo Maduro red wine ;-) Super food, staff, service and fitting out :-)

The food is delicious and portion sizes extremely generous. The service was great and the very attentive friendly staff really made for a lovely atmosphere. Knowledgable about both the food and wine.

With a new face lift in the restaurant and another 6 plates of outstanding Tapas we left happy bunnies. Love this place. If you want cheap fast food go to McDonald's. If you want tasty well prepared dishes at a fair price you can't go wrong. Bravo Hispalis

Took friends there for dinner. Got the drinks wrong 3 times. Forgot someone's meal and portion sizes ridiculous. £7.95 for calamari. Never going back

Plenty of places in Crawley but we were not sure how hungry we were so thought Tapas a good choice.

Very nice food, would highly recommend the liver. Service was so quick too. Definitely be going back.

Good experience, nice latin music and the food and service was excellent, since I book the table until the end. I will recommended for a nice dinner out. a very relax Spanish atmosphere.

Two successive week visits and still smili g :-) Starters of cheesey garlic bread and calamari followed by a beautifully cooked and succulent main of 10oz Ribeye steak with lovely Mediterranean vegetables. Accompanied by Maduro Spanish white wine. Excellent staff throughout :-)

Ok so my first time at this restaurant was last Sunday. I am a very experienced Tapas diner. The food was really nice from what I ordered.

Food very basic non exciting. No table cloth. Bit booring for the price. Much better food nearby Would not revisit.

Very basic non exciting food. Was cooked well. Presentstion could be a lot better. Some dishes you could relate to Iceland supermarket. Boring ambiance would not recommend. Quite expensive for a basic restaurant.

Great food and ambiance with excellent advice for the newbies.We had many and varoius dishes all were consumed with gusto which says it all really.

Had the best night ever for my birthday party at Hispalis! The buffet food was amazing and the staff made sure all of my guests had a wonderful time! Everyone had a ball! Thank you Yashar (the manager) for making this the best night for my guests and I! Highly recommended!! Xx

Third time at Hispalis over the last year.

The food is average but the prices are not. £9 for a very mediocre tapas starter is what I would expect to pay in London, not Crawley.

Went with a friend on a random last minute Saturday night, the french doors were open and it was a lovely warm summer's evening so delightful to be 'al fresco'. The food was delicious, the staff were attentive and very welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We ate quite a lot and I wouldn't describe it as cheap but that's generally how Tapas restaurants go (for greedy people at least!).

We often go to Hispalis and will go again. Last night the food was excellent apart from the meatballs which somehow was served without the sauce. Didn't notice it at the time but managed to get through half of them before we realised the sauce was missing by which time we were both well and truly stuffed. Mentioned it to the staff. I just wished I had my thinking head attached when the dishes were delivered to the table. That'll teach me to have too many pre-dinner drinks. Other than that a good time was had by all.

We have visited this restaurant as new to the area, We did go in early evening so not too busy, but the food is excellent and all the staff were friendly

Previously booked online, and by phone explaining we were celebrating a joint 21st birthday. Turned up in the afternoon to ensure booking was ok, to reserve a table and leave decorations for our table. Turned up on time only to find another party had taken our table complete with decorations and were shown to another. Service not great. Didn't get the drinksm we twice asked for, food arrived before wine and was generally rushed. Plates cleared before we had finished, closely followed by cleared glasses. We were in and out in under the hour. Not the relaxed birthday evening we were hoping for. Bread and olives were served at the same time as the other dishes. A 1st for me as have eaten Tapas MANY times before and would always expect these to arrive prior to the main food.

We had a lovely evening here. I visited with friends we chose from a good selection of tapas dishes. They were all fantastic (the chicken livers were my favourite). Very relaxing enjoyable evening. I would recommend and look forward to returning to try more dishes.

The only place for a quality tapas. The portions are great and it's not only a personal experience but you know there is a very passionate chef behind the recipes.

We have been to Crawley for a business trip. Found this restaurant on trip advisor and it did not disappoint. The food was truly beautiful. Staff was very friendly. One of them stood out. His name is Alex and he seems to really enjoy his job. I had a great night even on a Monday!

A large group of booked in for a friends birthday celebration. The staff could not do enough to help, setting up the table with the balloons and decorations I left earlier in the day. We pre selection some dishes and also left this with them.

We came here as a group of 12 friends for a birthday celebration, we had a huge selection of tapas and as we were a large group we decided on dishes before hand and gave the list to the waiter on our arrival, the tapas was delicious and just kept coming which was lovely, the service was great and we felt well catered for as a birthday celebration, a large number of our group had not been here before and all have said they will return as it was so lovely.

Came here today with my dad and son the service from the 2 lady waitresses great the food was fantastic no faults keep up the good work and we will definitely be returning and I will tell my friends Great tapas

Went for dinner and like so many other restaurants they start off so well but as soon as they get known the customer service goes down the drain! The manager was more interested in socialising at a table near ours- our waiter was on his phone while we were trying frantically to remind him we were still waiting for some of our tapas. When we finally did get someone's attention she got side tracked. This is the complete opposite to our previous times. Even when we voiced our dissatisfaction at the service it wasnt important enough to interupt the manager.

We came here for a friend's birthday and weren't impressed. We were really looking forward to the meal but it was a let down. From the outset they were difficult and tried to force us to order the ( expensive) and not very traditional set menu, which hasn't been agreed. There was then some negotiation and we got a few tapas dishes to start- mushrooms, chorizo, patatas bravas, crab cakes and olives. Starters were tasty but service was poor- had to ask for plates and ask for drinks. Main was paella which was very bland- one was over cooked and one was under cooked. I didn't complain at the time as it was my friend's birthday but thought it was shocking service. We certainly wouldn't return. It's a shame because other tables got much better service and food looked higher quality.

I've been in this restaurant twice with a friend who loves Spanish food. I'm Spaniard. First time was great, good tasty tapas, expensive, but we liked it. Second time the food was in a poor state, either old or carelessly prepared, we ordered almost the same tapas and we only enjoyed one out of five, and not much. We decided not to come back....

Having eaten here before and having an amazing meal. The service and overall experience last weekend was very poor.

We popped I for bite before a film. The food was quick and very tasty. The service was prompt if a little informal for my liking. I do not like being called Love!

I booked a table of 2 for Saturday 14th for my birthday. Upon arrival was greeted by a waitress who showed us to our table. The table was in a cramped place and was very small. We ordered our drinks which my fiancé ordered pint of Estrella and I ordered a mojito. When drinks arrived my mojito had a hair in it, which the waiter took away and I received a brand new drink. We ordered quite a few tapas with our waitress- 8 to be exact. To which all the tapas arrived very quickly and at the same time. However, I was missing our fresh bread and olives that we ordered to which I had to ask 3 times for this. I was getting annoyed as this was my birthday meal out and I felt like the staff were not making an effort at all. Once the bread arrived we mopped up the remaining sauce off our plates and then we decided that we were going to leave to go order desserts at another place. The waiter gave us a dessert menu however we just asked for the bill. We paid £70 in total to which I would of rather have gone into London and have paid double just to get a meal that was special. This restaurant totally ruined my evening. What a rubbish evening!!

After a trip to the cinema we ducked into Hispalis to avoid walking too long in the rain, and were glad we did.

This is a wonderful place to sample great spainish food, reminded me of the wonderful sea front Tapas bars on Malaga’s beach ...If you want to celebrate a birthday , or just think of your next Spanish trip it’s the place to chill nice relaxed atmosphere with lots of lovely paintings and music to enjoy an evening with friend or business lunch , solo or family! Love it my favourite place to chill out in Crawley lots of nice staff, and the owner has lots of customer service!

Nice restaurant, good food. Quite pricy and don’t think there was any alcohol in the 1 cocktail I had. Staff were good but long wait considering there were only a few occupied tables. Worth a visit for the food but wouldn’t rush back.

Came here for a lovely family , and boy we was not disappointed...... a beautiful meal of Tapas, reminded us of being in Spain.....

Booked a table for large party, extremely rude, worst customer service I've ever seen. Stressed out staff which killed the party atmophere. Guests were tutted at when asking for something. Waited 2 hours to be serviced 2 jugs of Sangria. Got our bill wrong. Happy to take our money with over priced food. No apology from the Manger. Never go back there again.

Went here a couple of weeks ago on a Friday with a friend and after there rocky start last year all I can say is Excellent, Food was so tasty (Had the TAPAS) and they couldn't do enough for us... including the endless supply of olives bread and dipping oil. Cant wait to visit this restaurant again Very Soon

Went here last night. Service was excellent from start to finish

We came here for late afternoon lunch and we absolutely loved every bit of it. The food is delicious, staff was very attentitive and friendly, not to mention Chefs, who came to our table and thanked to us personally for coming here. It is a great place with original and cosy interior, the staff the chefs the food all worth more than five stars! Will be definitely coming here more often to enjoy delicious and aromatic food of theirs! Highly reccomended!

Very welcoming and a family atmosphere. The owner was so kind and helpful. Did not want to see any food go to waste and allowed us to keep ordering more instead. It was very quick and a lovely atmosphere. Did not know what to expect but was brilliant. Full of flavour. Will go again.

Had a great dinner here and the service was great too. The Chicken Paella is fantastic. Quality of food is absoulte great and the staff is very kind and helpfull. Will come back!!

Had a wonderful evening at Hispalis last night. There were 21 of us and Yashar and his talented staff laid out a buffet of tasty treats for us. There was plenty of choice and many of us kept going back for more, and more, and more! A section of the restaurant was reserved for us which made it ideal for our party to be seated together and move around to speak to each other without disturbing other diners.The atmosphere was very relaxed and the service was great; discreet but present so our needs were met. The restaurant was recommended to me and I can see why, we had a great evening there.Thanks so much.

Just home from a visit to Hispalis with 9 girlfriends this evening, the chef/manager advised our menu which was all fine with the exception of octopus heavily salted on a bed of mash?! Not a winner! The other dishes though from patatas bravas to gambas and chorizo, were fine - however my dish of meatballs had a hair in it, it was actually in the meatball so it wasn't from any of our heads! I didn't make a scene of this, just discreetly mentioned it to the waitress who didn't seem to tell anyone, the chef came back to check on us and I also mentioned it to him, he was in complete disbelief, thought I was joking, and said no one in the kitchen had long hair, he didn't apologise but then lingered very awkwardly at our table and we were very much made to feel as if we had made it up!! This was confirmed by the look he gave me when we were leaving! It is for this reason that I felt compelled to write this review! We were not looking for a free meal! The astonishing lack of customer service over this tiny incident of what was otherwise an enjoyable evening will however insure we don't return.

Visited one year on from my first review and have to say Hispalis has improved immensely. Food was so much better than last time and really enjoyed. Friendly staff and good atmosphere

the food was excellent, we had first tapas (you can see the imagen, i haven't nothing to say so delicious) the second: main course, we hadn't time to do a picture ;). My boyfriend said was one of the best steak he has eaten in all you live. we finished with a delicious dessert and the best cocteles.

Good food, reasonably priced. Staff friendly. Night club next door is a put off as makes it very noisy.

Have been meaning to try out Hispalis for a while and was not disappointed! Brilliant service - they genuinely seemed pleased we were there. Two of us shared 7 tapas which was more than enough. Freshly cooked, great presentation and very tasty. We tried the Spanish meat platter, fried Brie, chicken strips, bread & olives, garlic mushrooms. All fabulous. Lovely decor too. Really looking forward to going back on a Friday night with a group.

We popped into this restaurant after visiting the local cinema (and also when we found out most other restaurants had quite a wait on a Saturday night). We have quite often walked past this place, but this time, chose to go in. We had bread and olives followed by 6 tapas dishes (probably, one too many: eyes bigger than our stomachs!), including prawns, chorizo, mushrooms, lamb cutlets, patatas bravas, and roasted vegetables. All of them were very tasty, and delivered by friendly attentive staff. The draft Estrella beer (from Barcelona) is also a bonus and the desserts were very reasonably priced). We would definitely visit again.

I was staying in Crawley for work and noticed this tapas bar over the road from the hotel so thought I would give it a go being a lover of Spanish tapas I am glad I did.

Just had some really nice tapas and a seafood paella with a very nice bottle of wine.

Stumbled across this place when looking for somewhere to have dinner before our flight earlier this month.

Visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday, to be honest never even knew it existed. The barman was very friendly and found us a space in the restaurant as we had not pre booked.

Great service and ambience. The portions are great. The food is bland and mediocre. Such a pity!None of the dishes had a wow factor despite their descriptions on the menu.This restaurant has great potential but needs to fix the problems in the kitchen

The tapas dishes were a good size, there were 3 of us (women) and 6 dishes between us was more than enough. The tortilla (spanish omelette) was lovely.

Visited Hispalis for a birthday meal. Was very impressed by the service received by the staff and the food was delicious! The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Also met with the owner, who was so friendly and welcoming. I can't recommend Hispalis enough, the food, atmosphere and staff service totally exceeded expectations and was perfect for a celebratory meal. 5* in all areas!

Dropped in for a late lunch. Very friendly staff, lovely food well priced! Great atmosphere with the latin music playing. You can take away what your eyes ordered and you belly couldn't take too!

Stopped here for an impromptu bite before heading to the cinema. It has a lively atmosphere with latino dance music playing (not live musicians) and the style of the place is lovely. Good selection of traditional tapas - patatas bravas, tortilla, ham croquettes. Food was ok - some things felt a bit pre-packaged. Staff were friendly helpful and efficient. Nice touch with a complimentary free drink at the end of our dinner.

Entradas pedidas: tábua de queijos com nozes e uvas seguidos de uns "boquerones" muito bons. O bife foi muito bem confeccionado com legumes grelhados e salteados no ponto. "Mojito" simplesmente soberbo. Fica a promessa de voltarmos para a sobremesa. 44,50£ para 2 pax - boa relação qualidade/preço. Obrigado

After hearing alot of people saying negative stuff we decided to go see for ourselves, on arrival the staff were friendly, chatty, very very efficient was a delight, we were seen to promptly and it was lovely, we were served drinks and than we ordered our food, it came out fast, now for the negative, we all found the food bland, now ive had alot of tapa's and this wasnt good, i said to i bet the cook isnt spanish! The potato bravas dish was bland the chorizo bland garlic bread over cooked, we ate as we was hungry so if anybody is reading this esp the manager/owner please please get a new cook!! Such a delightful place to eat the staff are very friendly and prob one of the best places ive visited in a while! Such a gem of a place but it needs improvement!!They can afford to put prices up a bit and get a better cook as this can potentially be one of the best eats around!

This was the third visit to Hispalis. Think it will be the last, ordered paella, the rice was over cooked as was the seafood. We has to ask the waiter to bring the drinks we ordered twice, not good considering we were the only 2 people in the restaurant at the time. I must say the coffee was amazing

Great spanish food! The place is really nice and it has spanish music. Definetly recomment if you're a fan of spanish food.
