Best tacos hands down and the churos are amazing

I've been waiting a while to make my way to Bishops Stortford for this, and yesterday I finally made it, and boy am I glad I did. I won't pretend this is gourmet food. But what this is is hearty, quality, FLAVOURFUL food made with love and passion. The team is understaffed, but my lord what they put out is good. The portions are huge, the dips and guac are included, and it's all made from scratch right in front of you. Driving home my car was filled with the smell of incredible food. I sincerely hope that the team can get the staffing they need to roll out again in full force. I will be back, I would happily drive from London to experience this again. Good luck guys

Tried the birria beef burrito recently and for the price it was absolutely banging. Though I would have liked a more citrusy flavour but regardless enjoyed it all. The churros are by far my favourite thing, I finally tried the pistachio sauce and just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Lovely and friendly staff. Always a pleasure when visiting!!

Birria beef was incredible. We also had the chicken taco. Both were bursting with flavour. Would love to know the recipes. Maybe release a cook book!!

The best quesadillas and churros I have had in the UK! I am a regular here and don’t get any takeaway food unless it’s from here. I regularly visit new restaurants every week as I work in London and these are my favourite quesadillas I’ve ever had. The chicken quesadillas are my favourite and they come with guacamole and a side of dipping sauce. They are huge and well filled with lots of chicken I also love the bacon triple cheeseburger which I think is one of the best I have had in the UK. It’s huge and gave me memories of being America. It’s up there with other popular burger places like Bleecker and Black Bear for me. We also tried the churros. The pistachio and white chocolate churros and just the mini filled pistachio churros. These were also great. We preferred the mini pistachio bites as they were completely full of pistachio but the longer churros were only filled half way through but nonetheless still tasted great. Couldn’t recommend a better takeaway service in the area. Great value and huge tasty portions. Hope you become a mainstay in Bishops Stortford as I can’t stop spreading the word about the place to my friends and family 🙌🏻

Delicious food, lovingly made! Heard so many great reviews and Ell's churros did not disappoint! The best quality and priced central/latin american food in the area and always find myself dreaming of the next takeout! Highly recommend the birria & chicken tacos, and the gourmet churros (including the dairy free option!!) are heavenly. ❤

Amazing food friendly staff been there 5-6 times always consistent never fails to deliver

After reading all the positive reviews, I thought I'd give this a try. Firstly the store signage says "Thick Shakes" however when I asked what shakes they do, they said they don't actually do shakes! So onto the food...I ordered a chicken burrito and cheeseburger. When I got home and started eating the burrito, it tasted stodgy and a bit weird. After a few bites I opened the wrapper and noticed it was completely filled with chips, which because of the creamy sauce, were now soggy chips! Now I have to admit, the menu says it includes chips, but I assumed that would be on the side, not actually in the burrito. After removing all the soggy chips, I had another go, but it was pretty tasteless and the creamy sauce inside didn't help either. The burger looked good, but that was fairly tasteless too. I was hoping this place would be good as Stortford has lots of restaurants but nothing quite like this. Maybe they were just having a bad day. That said, if you're the sort of person that thinks soggy chips inside a burrito sounds good, this might be the place for you. PS. The owner has just written the following response: "Thank you for playing you small part it trying to destroy my small self run business. Luckily for me your one in a thousand that complains about the food" And my response to that is that I'm not trying to destroy your business. It was a genuine and fair review, based on what I ordered. I am sorry that you felt the need to write such a response, but that doesn't change my review.

This place is absolutely phenomenal. The food and the cleanliness. I don’t understand how people could even contemplate eating this place less than 5*s it is amazing and we come here all the time. Highly recommend and SO worth the drive. 10/10

Small place down a side road. Don’t miss it! Ordered the Churro Bites, both plain & dulce de leche filled. They were very tasty but I would liken the texture to a doughnut rather than churros. Enjoyable either way!

Tried the house burger tonight. I'm boring I know. It was absolutely delicious. Great value. Very filling. Very tasty. I'll definitely be returning. It does help that it's a 5 minute walk from home. I would recommend it to one and all.

Wife went in as door was open just before it opened, Man there said we ar no open fi 15 minutes. Pretty poor customer service. A good restauranter would have been polite and said hav a look at the menu and see what you want. The guy looked very scruffy which oits you you off as welkn Won't be fevisiting this place.

These guys are awesome. Biggest burrito this side of London, stuffed with succulent meat (had the chicken and the beef). The churros (I have been pining for a good churro) where the best. I see what the hype is all about. Also, the person answering the phone has the best phone voice.

Wow, just wow!! We ordered the beef tacos, beef Quesadilla and two types of churros. The portion sizes are huge and the flavours are just as big. You won’t be disappointed with the food and well worth a visit. I feel very lucky to have such a hidden gem down the road.

Just finished eating one of the best burgers I've ever had. Savoured every bite it was so good. Can't wait to work my way through the menu. The staff are friendly and attentive. Service was prompt. Highly recommend.

Okay saw this place on Instagram and coming from the US I was desperate for some half decent mexican food. I wouldn’t say the food was super authentic. BUT then chicken tacos were fantastic. Nicely grilled but still juicy and with a gently spiced sauce. Easily one of the nicest things I’ve eaten around town. The beef on the other hand was a bit of a disappointment. It was pretty well cooked but it was just huge piles of slow cooked beef that didn’t really have any strong Mexican flavoring. Maybe it could be a little less meat or be more heavily spiced, or have some pickles to freshen it up. The consommé it comes with was also just pure BEEF flavor, so it didn’t really add much to the experience. Overall I’d still give a high score, the chicken so good that we’ll be back for more! Service was amazing. Portions were insanely generous.

We have travelled just to try these! We have eaten a Lot in México and the birria tacos/quesadillas are really worth it! Massive portions, and made really well! churros were really good too, you could taste dif flavours and were Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. (Unfortunately they didn’t have the pistachio today. The only thing I can suggest is to add lime on the side! Hardworkers, thank you so much!!! Will def come back

This place is insane best tacos and birra and churros and quesadillas ive had outside of Mexico. I drove 40 minutes to eat there. It is absolutely amazing food.

I think I have never driven almost 2 hours to eat before but it was well worth it! The chicken burrito was absolutely excellent... loads of cheese and super saucy! What a treat! Birria tacos were pretty good too but the chicken stole the show! Cali sauce and hot sauce were great additions on the side. Overall great value for money and really good portions Loved the churros too, just a shame that they were out of pistachio today...however just means I'll have to come back Well worth the travel! My only suggestion is if they could perhaps add rice as an option for the burrito in the future as although I thought the fries were excellent, my partner would have definitely enjoyed the rice version that bit more and Im sure some others would feel the same Cant wait to visit again for more yummy food

I'm just so confused. I came here to try for the first time today after hearing so many good things. I arrived and got served straight away and was given a buzzer and waited in the car. 10 mins later it was ready so good service.I ordered the beef birria tacos and some churros.. when the food arrived it looked unreal and I could wait to eat it. I've never been so disappointed. They had no flavour whatsoever. The cheese and beef inside the tacos tasted of literally nothing, so I added some guacamole which was included for free on the side and as a few other reviews have said this was so bland too. Just tasted like a blended avocado and then dipped in the provided birria sauce thinking that's what would add the flavour but nothing again. Tasted no seasoning whatsoever and just couldn't eat 2 out of the 3 tacos. I've tried many birria tacos and these don't come anywhere near. The sauce is meant to be rich and have a punch. But it tasted like the tacos just oily and nothing there. I then tried the churros and they were slightly overdone. Too crunchy and covered in sugar. The price was steep too for what I got. Over £6 for churros. The tacos if they had the flavour would definitely be worth the price of £12 but sadly I don't have any positives about the food I tried. The staff were lovely and service was fast so that's a positive. And it did look great but I'd rather it looks terrible and taste amazing if anything.

I’ve been here about 3/4 times since I came across a TikTok of the place, and initially fell in love with the burgers. Very good, tasted juicy and well prepared. However, it took a turn when I visited yesterday and called to pre-order their spicy chicken tacos which I’ve had before and thoroughly enjoyed. I picked it up and saw I was given plain chicken tacos, so I took it back and notified them it was incorrect. I honestly did not expect it to be a big deal and I was not too bothered that it was wrong, but the lady with black hair immediately started shouting and getting aggressive telling me she knows what she heard and I ordered plain tacos. She told me to not call her a liar and took no ownership for a simple mistake. Her colleague offered to make it right but the angry woman stepped in and insisted “we would be wasting their time and they don’t gain anything from it”, despite me being a paying customer. In the end I had to just walk away with something I didn’t want, which was of course extremely disappointing as I had tried these tacos before and didn’t like them. I am genuinely shocked by what I was met with, considering every other time they had all been kind. The chef is humble and always very polite but this lady had a seriously bad attitude that will only hurt the whole operation instead of help it. In future, own up to your mistake and just offer a positive solution. I will not be returning, despite this actually being probably the best burger I’ve had. We were becoming regulars, but it’s not worth making the 1 hour journey from London to be met with abuse and food I didn’t want.

I went there and saw a customer being belittled in front of everybody as the restaurant got her order wrong. No idea the quality of food, I was told there was no more quite rudely around 7pm on a Thursday despite trying to call several times. Tacobout trying my hardest to order.

Don’t be fooled… humble little shop, but world-class food. Honestly running out of words to describe how good the food is. Found this place late last year, been most weeks since. It’s addictive. The Birria beef tacos are melt in the mouth. Just think of the most tender shredded beef you’ve ever had and throw that into a toasted soft taco, with oozing cheese, herbs, and the perfect Birria gravy. Same goes for the beef quesadilla. Chicken and beef Burritos are the best I’ve ever had. Not like the sort you’ve had from Chipotle or wherever, these are a different level. Unique. Burgers are amazing too. And I’ve eaten a lot of burgers across the world. Chicken strips put places like kfc to shame. Incredible flavour and melt in the mouth chicken. Churros again best I’ve ever had. I’m hooked on the white choc hazelnut churro bites. There just isn’t anything on the menu that isn’t special. Most of all thank you for always being so generous to me and the mrs, always feel so welcome and will be customers here for life. Oh and ignore the dramatic grumpy 1 star review by Tony Nguyen, it's his loss. His complaint is like hearing about a brand new rollercoaster, visiting on opening day and complaining the queue was big... duh! Tony rated the food 1 star without actually trying it, so make of that what you will. Yes Ell Churros has had a very sudden boom due to EatingWithTod featuring them, but this means the shop has been overwhelmed with customers and the chef Elliot is practically doing everything on his own until he finds reliable staff. Give him time to steady the ship and get to grips with the huge demand and it'll be the best food you've ever had. P.S Saturday is very busy, so either be prepared to wait for great food or go in the week.

Had food from here last night, the beef burrito, chicken quasdilla and kids cheeseburger meal. It was amazing food and will come back again. Just wish they still did the thick shakes.

Just had the burgers. One of the best burgers we’ve ever had. Everything was freshly made and still hot and crispy when we got home. Absolutely delicious definitely not last time eating here.

Food might be good but be prepared for a long . We attempted the place twice. First time we were told they're not taking orders anymore. It was a Friday, around 7.30 pm. We tried ringing beforehand but the phone was off the hook. Tonight, we set on the road again. Got there about 5.45pm. They were taking orders but there was a 2h wait. Only worth if you are local. But we unfortunately felt the fact there is no way of placing the order in advance is a disdvantage and will only attract negative feedbacks. It's not a nice feeling to leave negative feedback but it may hopefully be an alarm bell to the management and to other customer who are considering travelling.

Impeccable is the Only way to describe this, not your average Mexican food in England, perfect flavour, not soggy, meat fell apart in your mouth. First time I’ve tried it tonight and me and my Mrs both said it is perfect. Staff are friendly and chatty, food is out of this world please get down there and try this out it’s insane! Beef birria tacos, chicken burrito, cheesy chips, with the sauces on the side was literally more than we could eat between us

After seeing EatingwithTod’s reviews of this place for a while I thought I’d try it out last weekend. It was extremely disappointing and I can’t believe other people are giving this place 5 star reviews?? The birria pizza is INSANELY bland and also the one I received was completely burnt! The guacamole is literally just blended up avocado like what you get in pots in Tesco. Really poor experience I will not be returning.

Would not recommend getting the Birria Pizza. Overpriced, sloppy, bland and burnt. Guacamole was bland, tasted like blitzed avocado with nothing else - no seasoning or anything. I had chicken loaded fries which were very good, would recommend these.

We had the beef burrito, chicken tacos and fries. Everything was fine, but we were underwhelmed considering the rave reviews we had read. The beef burrito was under seasoned, overloaded, and a little mushy. The chicken tacos had a chicken donner kebab vibe...none of the citrusy contrasting flavours you'd expect from mexican food. That said, the service was great, and if course we only tried a fraction of the menu. The highlight was actually the beef dripping dipping sauce which came (I think!) with the burrito....insanely smokey!

The worst beef loaded fries we ever tried. Tasteless, soggy and cold. No flavour a tall. Dish was left uneaten. Tacos nothing special either, burned. Chrros - tasteless. We tried calling in to have a refund, but with out any luck ..... Not what was expected and very disappointing.

Just visited here for the first time after reading other reviews on here. Ordered hot chicken tacos, beef tacos and a triple cheeseburger… all three items were delicious. They were so good I didn’t take any photos… and they were devoured in 20 minutes. Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. No other customers so they were happy to chat even though there were like ten orders on the board. You have earned yourself a new regular customer!

We have just been there from Chelmsford getting tacos, burritos , quesadillas and churros ! Portions are massive so one meal is enough for 2 people .on top of that we got freebies without us asking , sauces , guacamole and extra 2 churros ! all very tasty. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great food, really top quality! Only downside is that it’s a takeaway and we live about 30mins drive away so not easy in the winter months. When the weather is better we will definitely find a nice spot to eat near by.

Every time I've been here the food is amazing, for the quality and portion size the value for money is brilliant. Only local so just walk in and wait if can't get through on the phone to place order. Working my way through the menu and everything I've had so far has been so so good. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Best food I've ever had in my entire life.

Absolute local gem for the people living in Stortford or surrounding areas! Have always wanted to try this and with it only being 20 minutes away, it was inevitable. The tacos are to die for. I personally didn't quite like the quesadillas but that's down to personal preference. The broth that you get given is packed full of flavour and compliments the tacos/quesadillas very well. Unfortunately didn't get to try the pork as it was out of stock, but the chicken and beef were both amazing. Churros are a must try, you get a very big portion and they are cooked to perfection. Please don't turn up on a Friday / Saturday and expect that you do not need to wait. It's pretty self explanatory why there's a big wait on both these days. Try going on a weekday instead it's a max 30 mins wait! The beef tacos are full of flavour,

Was very excited for this one , went to place order was then told most of the things I wanted weren’t being made possibly due to how busy they were , walked back in to rude comment made about us comeing bk in early to his staff who were actualy very nice and helpful from the start , far to busy for one chef and you can clearly see he’s finding it hard by his attitude ,food was ok .. nothing special tho

Incredible as always. Went as soon as it opened as parking can be an issue when it's busy, and had no issue. 10 minute wait given they were just setting up, which I thought was reasonable. Will of course be going back, often.

We went at 5pm on a Sunday, and there were a few orders already in. We waited about 30mins while the food was cooked to order. We had a chicken burrito and a beef burrito and 12 churros with chocolate sauce. It was the best burrito EVER, amazing flavour, fall apart in your mouth meat and plenty of it, and the burrito was quite tricky to eat because it was stuffed so full with deliciousness. The churros smelled so good, and were the perfect combination of crunchy and squishy, and the sauce was soft and delicious. £30 to feed two greedy people, I wish I could go every day! It was getting very busy when we left with our order, run don't walk to Ell Churros!

We went primarily for the quesadilla, burrito and taco’s which were all so different and as good as each other, but the churros were also probably the best I’ve ever had. A real hidden gem that I hope continues to go from strength to strength! We’ll be back as soon as we can.

I had a Beef Birria Taco. I wasn't made aware beforehand or while ordering that there was a 45 minute wait for food, and I had somewhere to be, so that wasn't ideal and when I finally received my meal, the beef consumme had not been included in my order, so there was no Birria with my Beef Birria Taco. The taco was very nice however and I would definitely go back, I think there just needs to be more support in the kitchen so that the wait time is shorter (or customers are given that info up front) and things aren't missed.

Saw a video online of this place and was instantly sold. Food looked amazing online and definitely didn't disappoint in person. Everything we ordered was delicious and prices are super decent for what you get. Will be visiting again!

So so so so dissapointed with the service from these guys, I completely understand the sudden overflow of custom due to social media but after an hours drive with our toddler from Essex, we got there to be told the wait is 1 hour 20 minutes, we obviously sighed in shock but then received such a narky and unnecessary comment from the chef/owner stating ‘Well what do they expect!’, clearly frustrated from how busy he is. I was just so disappointed considering how excited we were to come and support the business and try the food. To add insult to injury, shortly after that we were told there were no tacos left… I only came for the Birria Tacos. We left and I got a McDonald’s, won’t even attempt going again, just due to the poor customer service. Really hope they can get it together as I would have attempted to come back another time had the chef had some courtesy.

My wife asked for tacos on Mexican Independence Day. I looked it up and found Ell Tacos. It was brilliant the tacos and churros were tasty and filling. The staff were friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back.

Superb churros. The most unexpected place in the world to find this tasty little shack of Latin pleasures but I devoured my filled Dulce de leche and chocolate churros and then wanted more. Very basic takeaway setup down a residential street. The guys running the place were very busy attending to customers and also cooking all the food, but had time to give great service. Will be back to try some of the other fillings.

Ell Churros is our go to takeaway! The food is another level - my partner says it’s the best burger he has ever had. Elliot the owner knocks up the tastiest food, especially his churros and tacos and is always thinking of new flavours to entice people to keep returning. They will also make dishes with gluten free buns/wraps if you bring them in which is great for those like me who are gluten intolerant. Recommend calling and collecting orders at the shop for ease as they get so busy so it’s good to book in your slot!

Ordered for collection. The food was freshly cooked in a very reasonable time for what we ordered and the kitchen looked clean. Everything was delicious. The burgers were juicy and had a great flavour, the chips were crisp, and the churros had a generous coating of sugar and cinnamon. The staff were friendly and efficient I will definately be ording from here again!

Far and away the best burrito I've eaten in the UK, absolutely delicious and served 'cali style', with fries inside the wrap to soak up all the juices (no rice). The beef was melt in the mouth and it came with a consumee dip that really topped it off. It was a bit on the large side for me, but I still ate it all! Excellent value for money.

Absolutely delicious burgers: perfectly cooked, very very tasty, and our new favourite place for burgers. Kids burger and chip portion is big enough for hungry kids. Highly recommended
