Elite on the bail in Lincoln

We popped in to grab a convenient Fish N Chip picnic to enjoy before I began my shift and after my girlfriend had ended hers. The gentlemen that served us was a friendly fellow. Who made some appropriate recommendations… the tartare sauce. They offer a home-made tartare sauce that the staff make themselves and it is vastly superior to the Heinz squirts pots they also offer on the counter-top. I believe the Salmon & Prawn salad is generally a “Sit-in” dish that they serve in their very spacious restaurant, however we asked nicely and with the beautiful smiles adorned upon our faces…he kindly obliged. We also got a regular cod and chips and they’re bloody gorgeous. #FishNChipFriday

Best fish and chips in uphill Lincoln.

Went into shop to order food 5.30 on 5th April, I have been in several times and many times to the other shops but on this occasion the guy behind the fryer ( wearing glasses)was shouting about having a 13 inch appendage and using swear words. The girls in the back area were laughing hysterically and really loud at something they were watching on their phone. The girls on the serving area looked embarrassed about what was happening behind them. Felt like I was in a youth club to be fair, I’m no prude but it was a bit too much as it literally went on whilst I waited for a large order. Food great as usual though 👍🏻

This restaurant is a cut above any ordinary fish & chips shop.

I grabbed a couple of sausages in batter with chips. They cooked to order so there was a little wait. The food was ok but I think that I need to try again and get the fish as the other reviews seem to be glowing.

My nannan is coeliac and had loads of choice of what she could have here! The food was brilliant, great portion sizes, and good prices, the gluten free options were almost the same price as the regular, which you don’t see very often either 10/10 would recommend!

Just had the Lunchtime mini fish special and sat outside on the clean benches. Perfectly cooked fish and delicious batter with chunky crisp chips. Will definitely return

Just bought a meat and onion pie for lunch,one of the worst pies I have ever had,filling less than half full, pastry like card board. We used to love this place but it's definitely going down on quality.

We had our first visit to Elite on the Bail during our latest trip to Lincoln this week and we were extremely impressed with both standard of food and the service. We will definitely visit again and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone on a trip to Lincoln.

This is the best fish and chips I had for years. I am usually not a fan of fish and chips as it is very oily and heavy, but this place is just amazing. The fish was so well cooked and it was not full of oil and heavy. It is the first time I had fish and chips and I didn't thing it was a heavy dish. I just loved it. The only thing that I would like it would be a bit more salt in the butter but it was still delicious. We are definitely going back!

Visited the restaurant, 4 of us in an evening. We all had haddock, chops and sides which was all delicious. I just wasn't keen on what the woman serving did. She delivered a jug of milk for the cups of tea. I pointed out there was a fly landed in it, and she just dunked her finger in and dug it out. I was quite shocked. However, the male server was lovely and polite and friendly. Definitely some training needed for some team members

Don’t believe the reviews - Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Everything is cooked in very strong oil (beef trimmings?) that makes everything taste the same and is truly sickening. Maybe the oil was old from a day of cooking, but it was only 7pm. We had fried Brie, haddock, shrimps, calamari, chips… but we could only taste the oil. The fish batter was awful, and the only way to eat the fish was by removing it. The only nice thing was the smoked salmon starter, the only thing not fried. I felt sick when I left and had to rush to buy indigestion tablets. I truthfully thought I was going to throw up, no exaggeration. A terrible end to a great day in Lincoln.

Friday takeaway for the family. It was very busy which we didn’t mind. However some of the chips were not cooked throughly and the cheese was on my granddaughters chips was absolutely awful and had to be binned. A bit disappointing

Fabulous fish and chips, reasonably priced and so close to the historical sites of beautiful Lincoln. Wonderful friendly service. Hugely recommend but go hungry! Definitely worth giving frickles a go if you're feeling experimental! Delish!

Best fish and chips we have had even compared to the coast. We went in had the lunch special which was £10.95 including a soft drink or you can upgrade for £2. Either way for two of us including drinks it was £23 which is a really good price. Unfortunately no photos due to the food arriving and could not wait to get it down me. I had the haddock and my husband had the cod and we both had chips and curry sauce all included in the price. The food was fantastic and the batter on the fish was so light and not the normal thick batter you get. Highly recommend and best fish and chips we have had. If we come back to Lincoln we will return here for sure. Staff were so attentive and polite and making sure everything was OK and how it should be.

Brought Anglo Swiss friends who were visiting . They don't do f&c in Switerland (no sea coast!). They absolutely loved it! We enjoyed it too, especially the natural assumption we needed mint sauce for the mushy peas. Something else I introduced to the Swiss. Staff were excellent, service great, only very minor nit pick was the chips were lacking inner fluffiness.

Ordered Tempura Prawns as a Special..NOT tempura. Thick gooey batter. Very dissapinted. Muscles also a Special. Sadly told none available. Went for Lunch deal. Enough food as had a starter. Chips pale & average. Batter was OK. No comparison to The White Hart Inn in West Stockwith!

Best Fish and Chips in Lincoln IMHO. They also have an extensive Gluten Free menu, which I'm excited to share with my GF friends.

The service was good and the restaurant looks really welcoming and nice. Very clean. But unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. Edible, yes; not the worst fish and chips I've had recently, but it does come pretty low on my experiences up and down the UK, and my friend who was with me agreed completely. Batter was pretty poor quality, fish didn't seem that fresh, and chips were pretty dull. I wouldn't go back here again. The menu is a bit deceiving, as we were expecting a salad with cod and chips. Expensive too at £12.95 or £15.95 for just fish and chips! The best fish and chip meal I've had this year was in Morrisons cafe for £3.50 ( was the cheapest too) on National fish and chip day. Nothing yet has beaten Morrisons this year.

We tried the take away because it was such a beautiful day, lovely take away area where they actually have benches and umbrellas to sit at. We had 2 fish and a chips between us. The fish was lovely and the batter light and crispy, chips were a massive portion. Staff helpful and friendly, would recommend if you are in this part of Lincoln.

We had Whitebait & Scampi as starters I had the Regular Haddock the 3 girls had Lemon Sole None of us could fault the Food or the Service Congratulations to all the Staff Thankyou

The wife and I called in here whilst looking for somewhere to eat. From the outside it looked very presentable. Inside looked lovely and clean. The staff we're very polite and hospitable. We ordered fish, chips and curry sauce off the lunch time menu for £10.90 which came with a drink. Have to say the food was lovely, and would definitely recommend. We would definitely visit again 😊

I must say the food was good After we'd ordered our food the last of what we'd ordered was sold at the takeaway so we had to change while half way through our starters The kitchen closed at 9 while we were still eating our main courses Instead of asking us while it was open if we'd like to order a dessert they waited until we asked for the menu to tell us at 10 past 9(on a Friday) that we couldn't have anything We still had drinks left and certainly didn't expect to leave just after 9pm but were made to feel very in the way as they cleaned floors etc round us The staff all seemed more interested in talking to one another than anything else and seemed to think it was normal that they'd run out of over half the menu It would definitely have been better to get takeaway than eat in we'd have got what we'd ordered and could have eaten without feeling rushed I won't be going here again 👎

Good food but didn't have what we ordered and didn't tell us that the takeaway service had took the food we ordered after we ordered it and no pudding by 9pm I was looking forward to desert kitchen closed... I'm hungry

I went for the large haddock and chips and it was massive. Would recommend for the size of fish you get and even the small version was a decent portion as well.

What can I say, Incredible! My second visit here and it's the best Fish and Chips I've had in years. Had a large haddock, half portion of chips and half portion of salad. Great mushy peas and a side of frickles (slices of gerkin battered and fried). Also, must say the service was fantastic. Definately must return again. Thank you.

Went in for late lunch . Had cod and chips with peas and frickles.( battered gerkins) twice .All the food was exceptional the best fish and chips we've had in many years .

Elite on the Bail has a fantastic Gluton Free menu and I'm so grateful for it. I ordered for myself and my son, my fish was huge and absolutely delicious but there were only a few chips, which for me was fine, but my teenage son wasn't very impressed 😆 A little on the expensive side compared to other chip shops around Lincoln but you pay for quality not quantity at Elite.

I met some friends for a meal today. I have never been and I really enjoyed the food. I had the Smoked salmon and prawn salad then I had the Carrot cake with icecream and it was absolutely delicious 😋. The Carrot cake was the best that I have ever had.

It’s hard to compete with the Elite. We’ll be going back to Elite On The Bail as soon as the chance arises. The food and the service were THAT good. But it does come at a price. Ironically, it wasn’t as cheap as chips. We ordered : -Regular Cod & Chips with Peas and Curry Sauce. -Large Cod & Chips with Peas and Curry Sauce. -Frickles - Battered Pickles. -A Coke and a Lemonade. and it came to just under £45. For Fish & Chips. We know what you’re thinking. That’s an absurd amount to pay for Fish & Chips ( and frickles and drinks) but until you try Elite’s srcan, you won’t understand why it’s priced so high. It’s phenomenal. The fish were massive, even the regular one. They were both chunky pieces of fish that tasted fresher and lighter than most other chippies we’ve been to. The chips were delicious too. Would we have wanted a few more? Probably not. There seemed to be just the right amount. The curry and peas were standard chip shop curry and peas, but we did seem to get a good amount of both. On to the Frickles and these were right up our street. £3.25 for 10 decent-sized chunks of Pickle coated in batter with a sauce is great value in our opinion. ( They’re even cheaper if you’re getting takeaway) Overall, for Fish & Chips, we do think it was teetering on the expensive side, but you do get what you pay for. We were looked after well by the staff and the food was exceptional. Elite are in an area of the city where rent is at a premium, so the price of goods is going to reflect that. Best Chippy in Lincoln? It’s definitely in the conversation!

A very good surprise a fish & chip restaurant on the bail an area near the cathedral. Excellent menu the service by the young lady was brilliant. At the end of the meal given plenty of time to relax finish the excellent beer and then of course pay the bill. A big thank you to all staff.

This little sit down eat in posh chip shop was an excellent walk by choice fo us today, I had the cod and my partner had the haddock, I can not tell you how perfectly cooked both fish were and how tasty, and the batter was the best ever, Had an amazing meal the staff were spot on and caring, and the rest room well, was immaculate. Only regret was I didn't go large.

Expensive basic fish and chips 2xsmall Pepsi, pot of tea, 3 x fish and chips, 2 small deserts £61. Whilst this sounds okish we were all still hungry at the end. Several people had problems with the specials board the meals were not as advertised when they arrived. Good staff. Wheelchair friendly.

Really disappointed, we had been looking forward to visiting here as we eat out every Wednesday in Lincoln and at the weekends. We arrived at 8.33 pm, the restaurant closed at 10pm, so we knew we had plenty of time to order and leave within the hour, however the young girls in charge at the till declined us entry stating we were 3 minutes late to be able to be seated for fish and chips twice. Instead one of the girls told us to go next door and get the order from their takeaway. We declined as we wanted to sit in and eat. The girls were very dismissive and quite rude and there didn't appear to be any management around. It appeared the girls just wanted to leave early. We now continue to eat in the Bail at Thailand No 1, Gino's and Tequilas at least twice a week and walk past the Elite which looks empty and uninspiring. Tonight Elite closed with all the lights off by 8.15pm. Maybe if they were a little more welcoming, customers might have felt more like spending their evenings there instead.

The food was tasty ,pre ordered and arrived in a timely manner. The setting was extremely poor,unsafe and contravening health and safety requirements. Our group of 15 were directed and shoe horned into a separate semi cubicle area.Once in ,(due to fixed bench on 2 sides of area,)there was no quick means of exiting . I won’t be returning ever.A poor way to treat a group of customers.

Staff were friendly but service wasn't the best unfortunately. We'd pre-ordered our food but still had to wait 50 mins for it to arrive. It arrived in dribs & drabs & the sauces arrived once some people had almost finished their meals. Food was expensive for the quality. Had better fish meals in some pubs. However, it's quite nicely furnished & could have potential to be a nice place.

The best as usual from this company. Food was as could be expected from them, Elite. The prices are on par with others in the city. This location is up near the castle in Lincoln with the takeaway located at the back of the building. The restaurant entrance is on the nail gate itself. There is no onsite parking but there is some pay and display nearby. There is good disabled access in the areas I visited on my visit.

Went to the Christmas Market and decided to call in here for a bite. We'll worth it.

Chips could do with cooking more. Expensive

So pleased to discover this restaurant, opted for a starter and dessert. Opted for the prawn cocktail, which was a meal in itself, and the apple and rhubarb crumble. Both delicious and plentiful. I would actually describe both as 'soul food' as a lot of love had been put into both courses. Highly recommend.

Great gluten-free menu and lunch menu

Went there tonight with two friends, I work in hospitality myself and was seriously disappointed by the standard of waiter service. Peas came out cold and staff were in the back, we waited at the bar 10 mins before shouting and someone came out to us. Service was shocking. But food was incredible. To say there was only 1 customer in, I dread to think what the service is like on a busy shift. Such a shame as it’s such a prominent spot in the bailgate, but I won’t be returning to the restaurant

Would recommend 100% Spotlessly clean, friendly staff and great food . Made a change to have the choice of fish without batter too, which was cooked to perfection. Lovely

Fab service and best fresh Fish I have tasted in a long time. Salt and chilli quid starter was to die for and could maybe have done with a couple more pieces. But this is not a complaint just how good it tasted. Staff were fabulous and couldn't do enough. Would recommend this place very highly.

The calamari and whitebait starters were delicious. The scampi was plentiful and very tasty and the large cod had crispy batter and delicious. Service efficient and very polite.
