El Jefe’s in Glasgow City

Potion size was very small for the price. Food was very tasty but for the price I won't be coming back for food but the drinks were amazing that I'll come back for but price for the size of food not a chance.

The search for half decent Mexican food continues. Absolutely awful.

10 of us attended last night food was exceptional and so so tasty. Let down by no live mariarchi band as advertised.

Very average food and way overpriced for the size of portions. Staff were great and the atmosphere was fun but cuisine not good enough for the money. Food lacked real flavour and the fish taco portions I had were tiny. Meant to be a main meal but felt like I was having tapas. Drinks were also expensive.

Ordered ten dishes and only one was tepid.😬 It was replaced immediately. 👏👏 Lovely staff.👌 Good prices. 👍 Great cocktails. 🥰

Visited for their Sunday Roast and we were not disappointed. We chose the lamb and it was absolutely delicious and a very generous portion. The house lager is nice and the jalapeno margaritas are a highlight. We'll be back to try their normal menu.

Lunch and drinks today pre-show at the Hydro...stunning frozen mageritas and tacos, I had beef bierra my Wife had fish tacos, top notch nosh, the two young ladies serving us were very pleasant and efficient, will deffo return to sample more of the extensive menu. Well done El Jefes 👏👍

The lamb burrito was quite possibly the best burrito I've ever eaten. Highly recommend this place. Staff are awesome and friendly too.

Ok hands down best mexican I have eaten in a long while. I first had it in Edinburgh in July but Glasgows was so much better! Staff was so friendly. As an American those chips and guacamole were a little piece of home (texas). Please open in the NE England.

I went with my 2 ok daughters to eat at this place. It has been the worst experience I have had in this place starting because the place has no good presentation, it is very dark, the customer service is terrible and the food is bad and expensive, also I ordered a dish from the kids menu for my 1 year old baby and the food was spicy, in reality this should not happen if they want to put spicy they should ask first since just because it is Mexican does not mean that everything has spicy and less the kids meals, I ordered an order of nachos with guacamole which I paid for and asked for take away when I got home I realized that they did not even put guacamole. I really would not recommend this place.

The best Mexican I've tasted in many years. The atmosphere was great, the staff had all been welcoming, friendly amd recommended great dishes. Likely the best Mexican in Scotland. They also had a a Patron taster tray. Highly recommend if you like tequila. One way to get the party started. :) the food was much better than I expected with the spice levels being just right. The mac and cheese, must have. :) The atmosphere in this place is great, the music in background make this feel like a real party and makes you want to dance.

Go here often for a lunch with colleagues. Always has a table for us, with quick friendly service.

Food is nice, service not great. But wow it’s expensive for what you get ! £14 for 2 small tacos , £12/13 for a cocktail £10 for loaded fries! ….its a bit too expensive for what it is.

The food is absolutely incredible here! My partner and I have been a few times now and have never had any food less than perfect! Definitely recommend!

Food tasted great, and the I can recommend the sweet potato fries as side, as they where very crispy. Just portion wise it's rather small, so only go there is you want something light, beat with some friends to hang out. Drinks are well made, they just put a bit much ice in it.

The classic line "if I could give a 0 star review I would"....very much applies here. Fistly 3 of our starter orders got messed up which can happen but our sides were brought out as starters which we wanted with our mains (which is usually what a side is) and then 20/30 minutes later when we got our mains it was the same sides brought back out, we could tell because they were cold and had conjealed in the dish from being left in the kitchen. The rest of the food was bland at best, no real flavour to it. We ordered a chicken burrito and it came out with pork in it which was taken back to the kitchen then returned to us and we were told it was "a million percent chicken" it was in fact 100% definitely pork. The staff were terrible the whole night nobody came over to check if we needed anything or to ask how the food was they were too busy on their phones in the kitchen so we had to chase them for more drinks etc. They only had 2/3 tables of people in the restaurant so God knows what happens when the place is actually busy but maybe they were bored. When we went to pay, the waiter who was serving us all night went into hiding in the corner and let the bar man deal with us which seemed a bit harsh as he did nothing wrong, if you mess up just front it and try to sort it out. A limp apology was given but no real effort was made to try make up for it. If you're in the area looking for a bite to eat go next door to a Chinese called The Little Canteen or down the road to Sano Pizza as they know what customer service is and make you feel valued.

Service 0/5 Food 1/5 ordered chicken burrito and brought out pork and beef and said it is 100% chicken and as I suspected it wasn’t anything like chicken. The staff is terrible no one even bothered to make an effort to come over and ask how we are or if we need anything, kept forgetting everything we asked for like extra water. And no apology at all and didn’t even bother making an effort to try make up for it. Absolute disgrace of a “restaurant”. Never ever again am I going in there and would not recommend to my worst enemy.

The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere with great decor, it was also very clean. I found the food to be less flavourful than other Mexican restaurants in the City and felt the food was just ok, nothing special. Saying this, the drinks were very nice but not good enough to move up to 4 stars

Rating El Jefe's with 4 stars. We went in and got seated right away. The waitress was knowledgeable about the menu when we had a couple of questions and the food came out very quickly! However, I would say, for what you get, it's a tad overpriced. I probably will be back at some point if in the area and would recommend trying it.

Really disappointed in it today. Was in a while back and loved it. Today was poor, very greasy, lacked flavour. My mouth still feels coated in grease. I MIGHT give another try but definitely not around any holiday period

We had seen this place on Instagram and thought we'd try the Mexican twist on a Sunday roast. What a treat this was! We chose the chateaubriand for 2, which was cooked to perfection with all the trimmings. It was also accompanied by 2 large yorkshire puddings, which are always the best bit of a Sunday roast. Brilliant food and service, we will definitely be back!

Was in the city for a work event and was given this place as a recommendation. All the food was yummy, good selection of beers on tap and great staff.

One of my favourite Mexicans I have ever been to. We arrived around 8:45 and it was very lively - When we arrived we were sat right next to the live Mexican band which really added to the vibe - Great food - Good service and all round top experience (Get the Birria Tacos!!)

Burrito and Quesadillas were super tasty as were the wings. The Nachos are below par. Staff were friendly but service was a little slow as they seemed caught up in their own conversation as we were waiting to catch their eye.

Heard about El jefe's from social media and decided to book in for the Sunday Roast. From start to finish it was amazing, the food was absolutely fantastic I can't fault it at all. The atmosphere was great nice and relaxing, cosy and warm, I sat next to the door but it wasn't cold! Very chilled and relaxed and there wasn't any rush to get us out the door. Staff were attentive but not overbearing just popping over every so often to ask if we were okay with everything etc. Took my little one with me and it was a great setting for her, not too loud and again staff brought crayons and kids menu over no bother without hesitation. Unfortunately I only remember one name of the staff members today and it was Chad, but honestly everyone was so lovely. Will definitely be back again on a Sunday for the roast, would also come back during the week.

I came here for the Sunday roast with my sister and niece. It was fantastic, the food and service was amazing, definitely going to recommend it to friends.

I enjoyed the food and thought the menu was pretty reasonably priced. However the service was sub par, we waited a long time for a server to take our food order despite staff members chatting to eachother. And the place smelled of stale smoke, perhaps this was just on that particular occasion though.

Absolutely perfect service and food, thank you David and all the bar staff for tending to our every needs and going above and beyond to make our experience so lovely. Would recommend the beef birria tacos, so incredible :))

Went for food last week before our Gig the drinks and food was amazing you must go !!

Kick ass waitress, food, and booze! The house lager and Mac and cheese were world beating. Good shots too. In the US we have tons of tex mex. This spot beats almost all of them!

If you are under 30 this place is incredible. If you are like me and over 30, it's still brilliant but you'll not be able to hold conversation as the live music is very loud. However, the live music is excellent, very entertaining and creates a great atmosphere. Food is very tasty, and menu plenty varied. Cocktails are brilliant but maybe a little expensive. Service was spot on, and it was clear they go the extra mile for birthdays and other occasions.

Never fails to impress!! Food is always fantastic, service is sharp and very friendly! And when they say the spicy mango margarita is spicy believe them!

Delicious lunch with great cocktails. We used the menu as a tapas style and shared the plates between us. The food was amazing and the cocktails were strong 💪🏼 Highly recommended. Will definitely be back. Thankyou for an amazing afternoon.

The food was delicious. Service was a lot slow. It's quite expensive for what you get. Overall this place is a once in a while for more special occasions.

Always heard great things about El Jefes. Was totally underwhelmed when we went. Food was okay nothing to rave about. Not sure if it’s because of the time we went , wasn’t buzzy enough with only our group to begin with. I would imagine it would be lively at nighttime. Decor was cool. Would maybe try again at night for drinks

When handling people with dietary restrictions and allergy, they have to ensure that the specific order reaches them in person instead they just pass it along in a big group. This is not right.

It's the cocktails that blew me away! Those margaritas were out of this world. Food was fantastic too.

Fantastic atmosphere, live Mariachi band was brilliant. Food tasted really good although the portions were small for the price. All the meat was halal apart from the pork 👀, fish is cooked in beer batter so avoid if you eat halal only.

As a Mexican, it is always a great pleasure to see a bit of my country in a faraway place. The food is good and the atmosphere too. However, I must highlight that the service here is very friendly. The best thing about this place is its friendly employees.

I really enjoyed the taste of the food, and was happy to see Palomas on the menu (Mexican cocktail). Beware, if you get tequila shots you will walk out wearing a complementary sombrero!

Was in on Sat 10/08 The food we had was excellent but the most important thing was the service we received from our server , young lady with blonde hair ( sorry never got her name) was without doubt an absolute credit to her Job , we've been to many an establishment and that was honestly the best service we've received 👌👏

Went I for margaritas in the sun. Great guy at the bar, great cocktails and service. Lovely folks but oh my goodness I FELL, my brother also FELL his partner FELL just trying to pee. Guys you gotta get some boiling kettle water and bicarbonate of soda on those floors. Someone is going to die!

Expensive cocktails but great fun venue

We are regulars at Topolobamba but have not been in past 2 months since finding El Jefes. The food here is tremendous and full of flavour. I dont like a lot of Mac and Cheeses out their due to poor flavour or grease but El Jefes is perfect and the Birra Mac and Cheese is amazing. The Beef Quesdillas are fantastic. We have been here around 8 times in past 2 months and even had a takeaway for lunch. Really nice food obly thing is it is hard to get a table unless you book in advance. Sometimes you may need to wait 2 weeks if you want a Saturday which is our normal night out.

Exceptionally good food, slightly let down by a request from the manager for the table back just after having served us drinks, but the food was very good. Birria should come with consommé, but otherwise, it's very legit Mexican in Glasgow. Craveable, mild padron peppers and honey tequila were stunning. Great veg options. I have to say the cheese sauce on the chips was wrong... wrong texture, taste. We ordered, ate, drank, and laughed too much. Yum!

Quality food and good service, excellent tacos

Went to El Jefes before a gig at swg3 glad we pre booked it was fairly busy on a sunny Monday evening, service was really good staff very nice to speak to giving us indoor.and outdoor options, we did sit outside in a party of 3. Menu was plentiful, lots of different food and drinks options quesadillas and some sides were all tasty salsa dip was the only negative which was bland but everything else top notch would gladly go back!

Had a lovely gluten free meal here. The quesadillas were delicious and the wrap was a normal sized wrap that didn't fall to pieces. Would definitely go back.

My disabled mother in law and child were shunted off to a side table away from the rest of their family. Seeing other customers come there was no reason why we couldn't of all been moved to the low table from the high, inaccessible table. Food was amazing as were the cocktails. Probably one of the best tacos I've had in Glasgow, would definitely get food to go from here again but would not visit with disabled or or very young family members as staff are not accommodating even when it isn't busy and there is no baby change that I could see. A great atmosphere and didn't feel stressed to leave.

We booked online but on arrival wasn't sure they had seen the booking as there was no questions, so I was a bit sad thinking they hadn't seen my request for a detail for our wedding anniversary that I said I would pay for. The food and drinks were 10/10 and the staff super nice and kind, when we realised we had ordered too much gave us boxes to take the rest which was such a win. End of the meal the waitress brought us a brownie with strawberries and icecream as a present for our anniversary! And totally free of charge as well. We will be back with friends is such an amazing place and would totally recommend.

Had lunch here today. I don't know how it's possible to make food with so little flavour. We had beef burritos, a huge amount of flavourless beef stuffed into a wrap with some cheese and then slightly microwaved. We had to return them to kitchen to get them nuked again. No salad, no veg, no sour cream or guacamole on the side, just some stale nachos and some liquid salsa with no vegetables in that either. £12! I'd have been beeling had this cost £3! On a positive note it feels nice inside and looks a great place to get hammered. That's probably the best time to order the food, you'd need to be blootered to enjoy it. The servers were nice and efficient, no complaints there. We liked that they brought a bottle of chilled water as we were seated

Great Sunday roast had here today, food was cooked very well and the Mexican twist on the Sunday roast was superb with a standout being the Mexican style gravy. ! Leo from the staff team was very pleasant and gave the wife some recommendations on wine to match the meal which the wife says was spot on ! I would recommend a visit here and I know that I will be back myself also ! Thanks

The food was really tasty as were the drinks. The Mexican band were brill and greatly added to the atmosphere. We would definitely recommend and definitely return.

Usually really enjoyed el jefes so as a treat my partner and I ordered el jefes, however we were a chicken quesadillas in and we notice something wasn’t right, looked closer and saw our chicken was completely raw. Absolutely disgusted by this, hoping that we noticed it quick enough that we won’t get food poisoning. Tried calling the restaurant to let them know, just in case others could have the same but no answer. Really disappointed by this as this was a favourite restaurant for us but not sure we will be back anytime soon. Date- Friday 26th 8.45pm

It's quite a cool small venue with live Mexican music and interesting decor. Cocktails were excellent, food was tasty but have had better Mexican food in the city. A bit too loud for me and booking is essential if you want a seat which you will need as very little standing room at the bar.

Fantastic food, but music was so loud could not hear each other talk. Asked if it was possible to turn it down slightly. Was told no am only in my 40s never heard music so loud in a restaurant ever before.

Came for dinner, food was all great! Got the cauliflower tacos & nachos which were delicious. Nice frozen margs. One of the best Mexicans in Glasgow. Really nice ambience and service was friendly. Very busy even on a Wednesday though so book ahead!

Food was just ok not the most flavoursome Mexican I have visited needed more oomph in the braising of the meat and it all lacked flavour and salt.

Thought it was fine, the food was good but EVERYTHING was covered in a sauce that we didn't like. Would have been better if that sauce (crema?) wasn't there

Food is fine for taste but the amount you get for the price is ridiculous. You can get just as good or better at other nearby places, I would avoid this one unless they have a significant discount offer. Service is friendly and for lunch it wasn't too noisy and the ambience was nice, but again it's not worth the price.

Average. Had a table booked for a specific dish, Sunday Roast. Was under the assumption that due to the specific booking the food would come relatively quick as they know people are coming for that. 45 minutes waiting. While we waited we were asked 2/3 times if we wanted more drinks, I realised there the reason for the wait (£££). The food was just average, nothing that would make me return, but credit where’s due, the Mexican Mac n Cheese was incredible. No regrets in trying it but won’t be back. Instagram does sell fool you sometimes.

First time here food and service was very good and entertained by small band , good wee night .

Had lunch on this first-time visit. Found the premises to be cold and my wife had to keep her jacket on as a consequence, which was disappointing. We asked our server about it and she claimed to have put on the heating but we didn't notice any difference. Food was very good and the portions sufficient. The staff were friendly and helpful, despite my gripe about the heating. Prices on a par with other eateries in the area.

Visited without a reservation and they managed to squeeze us in which was great and unexpected as it was really busy. Ordered the beef birria and Baja fish tacos plus some corn ribs. All three were really tasty and the sauce on the corn had just the right kick of spice. Particularly enjoyed the beef birria but the Baja fish tacos were damn good too. Just enough food for two for lunch but if having dinner we'd have probably ordered another taco and side. The mexican sodas were good too. Will happily head back.
