El Greco in Stratford-on-Avon

Yet another great meal…our favourite place to eat in Stratford. The restaurant was packed but the service and food were excellent - well done Team El Greco!

We stopped here mid afternoon on a sunny Saturday in October and sat outside as we had our dog with us. We ordered a selection of the Greek "Tapas". The service was very prompt and the staff were very friendly, chatty and efficient. The food was great tasting and the variety was good. My husband also had the Greek house wine. The staff were very accommodating and provided water for our dog. It was lovely sitting there watching the world go by. I would definitely recommend

Great food in a lovely environment. We called in here as it was close to our accommodation and were delighted by the quality of the food and the price. It's off the main street, but we'll eorth finding.

Wow!! what a fabulous night we had at El Greco on Saturday. The food is delicious & the staff could not have been more welcoming. The added personal touch of a 'girls night out' balloon on our table was amazing. They went above and beyond to make our evening a special & memorable one. Thank you, thank you, thank you xx

Very disappointing I’m afraid. Nice welcome when we went in by I think the lady owner. The waiter came over almost immediately to take our order whilst my husband was still parking the car! The young waiter needs training, he asked us constantly for our order including the dessert at the same time. Didn’t know what Pinot Grigio was and couldn’t even pronounce it. We were constantly rushed. In the end I explained it was my birthday and didn’t want to be rushed, he then apologised. He also wanted to start clearing the table whilst a couple of our party were still eating. It was a Saturday night and there was only us and one other table taken in there. The staff were clearing up around us. Totally unprofessional. The food was ok but that’s it, but to be honest, the whole experience was ruined by the waiter rushing us, the very stark decor and the fact the staff couldn’t wait for everyone to leave so they could get an early dart. Definitely won’t be back or recommend to anyone.

We went here as a small group for dinner. It started well, the greeting was effusive, possibly a little over the top, but nonetheless we felt welcome and were shown to our table. Our hostess told us that our waitress, I won’t share her name “Will be taking special care of us”. Thereafter, it quite simply went downhill. The waitress seemed somewhat lost from the time we asked to see the wine list. When one of our party asked what draft beers they had, she said they didn’t, they only had bottled or beers on tap! Work that one out.... Among the starters we ordered were deep fried Kalamari. These turned out to be thee very small quid rings buried in an equally small salad and served with dip. The squid was overcooked and as such had predictably turned into something resembling rubber bands. Another of our group had Halloumi, this was shown on the menu as char-grilled. It was even worse than the squid. It was rubbery, greasy and seemed or to have been deep fried than char grilled. The main courses continued our journey of disappointment. The Kleftico, a particular favourite of mine was well cooked but totally unseasoned rendering it somewhat bland. One of my colleagues had Mousakka it was cold in the middle, his view being that it hadn’t been in the microwave long enough! Another had Salmon, which was in the menu as Salmon with dill and lemon dressing, with new potatoes and lemon and dill dressing. The dressing couldn’t be found and the potatoes were totally undercooked rendering them hard in the middle. For desserts two of us chose Baklava, again, a particular favourite of mine. This was so poor as to be inedible. Soggy, leathery filo pastry with a poor filling of what I think were ground walnuts. I expected pistachios but I suppose I should have asked first. So, to my conclusions: I’m lucky enough to have worked in many parts of the world including Cyprus. One of the joys of my time there was the food. Frankly, the food at El Greco was very disappointing and bore little resemblance to what I had enjoyed during my time in Cyprus. Will I or any of our group go back? Sadly not. Will any of the group recommend El Greco? I’m sure you know the answer to this. I think a somewhat cynical comment from one of my fellow diners summed up how we all felt. “If Wetherspoons did Greek food then it would probably be rather better than this but at about a third of the price”

We ate dinner here as a family this evening. Food was delicious with good portion sizes. Service was also great. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

What an absolutely fantastic place with a very warm welcome. We had such a great evening for my niece's hen do. The staff, especially Lars, were all wonderful, and the food was delicious. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough for anyone who wants a good night out. I really can't wait to return.

Amazing food. We had a shared mezze starter which was delicious. I had the beef stifado - honestly amazing. Staff were lovely and attentive even though the restaurant was full. Definitely recommend.

We enjoyed the lovely tapas selection. Tzatziki was incredible and there were lots of fresh vegetables. Service was friendly and great atmosphere. Reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food too.

The setting is great, the restaurant is ok, lacks real warmth. We had the mezze at £29.95 each, all the food was served in annoying little bowls, which covered the whole table, there was plenty of food but it did not really hit the spot for me. My partner enjoyed hers so that was the main thing.

Midweek, v busy, friendly meet and greet, usual menu, excellent starters, main meals good but I don’t particularly like it all ready plated up and service was slow. We will revisit

We have been several times- the food is always plentiful, hot and tasty. The welcome is warm and the atmosphere is great. From the tapas menu particularly like the taramasalata and the beef stafido.

There is also a Al a carte menu to choose from to. The food and service was amazing.. We we're upstairs in a small room with 3 / 4 tables and it's own bar. The whole restaurant was packed and Buzzing with atmosphere. Even our waiter went to the effort of getting a 50th balloon to put on the wife's chair. Picked this restaurant because of good reviews on TA and close to our hotel. We went for the meze option accompanied by a bottle of Greek wine - both were excellent. Just sorry we couldn't clear all the plates!

The starter of Greek sausage was very good, the main of Mousakka was superb and then to top it all off beautifully amazing Baklava. As good as the food was, the service matched it. I'll be back when allowed after lockdown!!!

Booked into this restaurant having found good reviews on here and on Google. I was in no way disapointed. The table was ready for us and it was clean and all Covid 19 measures were in place. The staff were excellent and very chatty and the food was excellent. Then to make the evening even better the bill arrived. I would have happily paid a great deal more than they charged. I will be going back again when I am next in Stratford Upon Avon.

The most positive attitude to the current pandemic - so refreshing. Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. Food was incredible. My dad took me here for my birthday and we had the best time!! Highly highly recommend to everyone. A must go to in Stratford

Decided on a whim to go and have a Mediterranean meal and randomly picked this place.And, I can't believe I'm saying this, but it was potentially the highlight of our long weekend holiday.Friendly waitress. Ordered 4 mezze dishes to share and I got a veg moussaka and it was all brilliantly tasty. And a lovely local IPA on tap too. Didn't really need breakfast the next morning either! Loads of free salad with each dish too was a nice touch.Very fair price too.

Visited early evening in October. Choice of food on the menu was extensive and menu options included fixed price and mezzo options. Chose three course option and the food was very well cooked, extremely fresh salad and delicious throughout. The service at the table was excellent and the hosts were very friendly and welcoming. COVID restrictions did not diminish the experience and would fully recommend this restaurant which is well located in the centre of Stratford upon Avon.

My husband and I had eaten here a while ago and decided to take our daughters when we visited Stratford. It was their first time trying Greek food so we ordered a selection of small dishes. We all loved it, generous portions, delicious food and very friendly service. All felt very Covid secure.

Booked on phone, social distancing was in operation, COVID App location bar code needed. Very good pleasant & courteous staff, good service, food choices available. The food was was excellent, the restaurant was not cramped, but spacious. Greek restaurant, would visit again.

Had such a lovely experience from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Arrival and table service was 10/10! Thank you to Stelios for a fantastic service! We will be sure to come again as the tapas was divine.

This was a very busy Saturday night, but the staff were warmly welcoming and worked hard....service was slick. As others have said the portions were huge, which meant that dessert was a struggle, even if included in the price! Whilst the staff were definitely Covid safe, that could not be said for all the customers, who were wondering around the restaurant without face masks. But on our table we had a great time and enjoyed some traditional and well prepared Greek food!

We ordered the 3 course menu which was great value for money and very tasty but beware.......the portions are large so bring a large appetite with you!! Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant with friendly staff. Would visit again if in the area.

I visited alone for lunch and felt well looked after and relaxed. Starters and main course were lovely - side salads excellent. The Greek house wine was also very good (I had the red). Worth a visit.

We visited on 17th October and agree with all positive comments here. A warm welcome and nicely positioned table on the first floor. We also went for 22 Mezze and it was delicious. Not to be missed. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Recibimos una bienvenida muy amistosa e inmediatamente nos llevaron a una hermosa mesa en el frente del restaurante. El distanciamiento social está muy bien y de forma simpatica. Nos decidimos por el Meze, que era fabuloso y recomendaría este regalo de 22 platos a cualquiera. Pensamos que tenía una buena relación calidad-precio y la lista de vinos tiene una buena selección de vinos griegos y otros.

We have been promising ourselves the full Meze for some time, as our previous experience here was excellent. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is operating strict Covid procedures, which made us feel very safe, and as capacity has been reduced, the restaurant was very busy without losing its’ intimacy. The Meze offers genuine Value for money, with all the usual favourites cooked extremely well. The souvlaki was particularly memorable but I would struggle to find a single fault. Service was perfect, prompt but unforced and never intrusive and the wine list remains full of characterful numbers at reasonable prices. A lovely evening meal.

I came to El Greco for my birthday meal on 17/10. When we sat down we couldn’t believe how hot it was in the restaurant. The next issue was how slow the service was. To top it off, the food was bland to say the least. The spinach and cheese parcels literally tasted of nothing and neither did the chicken souvlaki. Only positive was the waitress was very polite. Wouldn’t return.

This restaurant was located right next door to our hotel (White Swan) the food and service was superb. Great value for money £23.95 for 3 courses. Beef stifado was wonderful and the moussaka best I've ever tasted. Highly recommended

In these awkward days it's a pleasure to find a restraunt that is balancing the responsibilities of managing coving with good practice and excellent food. The taster meal was excellent value for money, tasty and well presented, I had the beef Stifado which was as good as any I have had in Greece. Well worth a visit and will return.

Nearly a five out of five from our little group of girls. This restaurant is superb, it’s in a great location, the safety measures were fine, you need to book because it’s BUSY. When I say busy I mean BUSY. The Mezze is the way to go. It’s A-Mezz-ing!The reason it’s a four is just because the service is lacking a little. Please please have a word with the staff because we would have spent so much more but there was no personalised service. It felt very robotic.

Mi principal, tal vez no sea de mi gusto, era muy básico y no estaba a la altura. Realmente quería que esto fuera excepcional habiendo cancelado otra reserva para entrar aquí. Estoy seguro de que otros disfrutarán, pero nuestra experiencia no fue genial. Así que no, no volvería a visitarlo, lo que me entristece, ya que estoy a favor de dar oportunidades y probar alternativas, pero esto tiene mucho camino por recorrer.

Booked a table following recommendation by friend. Wow food was superb. The kleftiko slow cooked land was delicious. Service excellent and staff very friendly and very hard working. Such a lovely independent restaurant

Visité aquí el lunes 21 de septiembre en la calle la primera noche de una estadía de cuatro noches en Stratford upon Avon a donde vinimos después de que se cancelaran nuestras vacaciones en Creta. La comida aquí era como estar en una encantadora taberna griega tradicional griega. Las hojas de parra rellenas para empezar estaban deliciosas, y el stifado de ternera, que es mi plato griego favorito, era perfecto. Pedí baklava de postre que estaba agotado. Me las arreglé para conseguir una mesa x 2 aquí, no había reservado (¡el martes por la noche!), El lugar estaba lleno, así que tuvimos que comer afuera, ¡solo nosotros! Tenía el menú griego para dos, y era abundante, sabroso y servido con prontitud. La única queja menor es que tiene que venir con más hummus, por lo demás tiene una buena relación calidad-precio.Si planea con anticipación, le recomiendo que reserve una mesa.

We went to Stratford for my husbands birthday and booked El Greco for his Birthday dinner. I notified the restaurant before hand that it was his birthday and they put a ballon on our table which was a nice touch. The service was outstanding. Jenny was out waitress and she made our visit special. The food was good but not amazing. I am Greek myself so my expectations were high. Overall a lovely place.

Late dinner here was great: authentic tasting Greek food , lots of it & happy staff made for a very good experience. Almost made up for not getting to the Greek Islands this year!!

Great welcome, very covid safe and a really delicious Greek meal . Kleftico and stifado were really excellent and two pieces of paklava with ice cream for dessert really finished off the meal perfectly and generously. Really recommended

After looking at all the reviews we chose El Greco as our next place for an evening meal. Staff were lovely and complied with Corona 19 regs and social distancing was ensured. Had a starter of Octopus rings which was nice, followed by Lamb Shank which unfortunately was under cooked, lukewarm and tough. We were offered an alternative meal half way through which was not practical. A shared sweet course and a glass of cava on the house was brought to the table which was appreciated but did not make up for the disappointment the meal. Just the main course that let this evening down.

Went here on Wednesday nite whilst staying in Stratford, should have been in Greece !! Good choice on menu and reasonably priced, even had a Mythos 🇬🇷 was an enjoyable nite, could have been Greece apart from the rain outside 😄

Lovely restaurant. Great service from really friendly waiters. Seated quickly, served quickly, and the food was delicious! Best Greek food I've experienced outside of Greece. Next time I visit Stratford -upon- Avon, this restaurant is top of my to do list.

If you're in Stratford for any reason and need a meal I would definitely recommend El Greco. As Greek and Mediterranean food goes this place is hard to beat.As well as the food being top notch, the staff are friendly and professional too. We were served by Stratoula and she couldn't have been more attentive to our needs. She left us alone when she could see we were chatting, made some great recommendations and packaged up anything we didn't manage to eat ... which is important because if you order the banquet there is plenty of food!We will definitely be back!

We ate here whilst we were in the area for the day and we are so glad we did. We throughly enjoyed the meze for lunch, the amount you get for the price is amazing, the dishes were all authentic and as good as you'll get outside of Greece. To top it off it was service with a smile.

Visited here when spending one night in Stratford upon Avon. Pre booked on line. Food absolutely gorgeous! Staff very friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend a visit. I will certainly visit again when we are down this way (travelled from North Wales).

After visiting two other establishments in Stratford-upon-Avon, and deciding against, we stumbled across El Greco, we chose to have the pre fixe lunch and we’re not disappointed at all, very authentic Greek cuisine, it was amazing and our waiter Stelios couldn’t have been more helpful or nicer, although this restaurant is 2hrs from where we live, we will definitely return

We were pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of the food, expertly prepared, and served by knowledgeable staff who really knew about Greek ethos and hospitality ,we could have had a complete mezze, but chose to have some mini mezze starters with larger complete main courses.Traditional Greek wines complemented the food .We had a great evening!

This was my first visit to this restaurant and it definitely won't be my last, great food, great service, had a great night! Best greek food I've ever had !

Fabulous! Do not look any further... From start to finish we had a fabulous dining experience at El Greco. The menu has something to cater for everyone,but we opted for the Meze as we could not decide on what to have and I can honestly say, it was well worth it. The amount of food was unbelievable and each dish was delicious. 2 of our party had the salmon and pork souvlaki and said they were equally delicious. All the staff were attentive and helpful, but particular thanks go to Christian for taking good care of us. The wait times were perfect, not rushed, but very efficient service. We can highly recommend and would definitely return, if in the area.

El Greco was recommended to us by friends and we would happily recommend it to everybody !! The food is wonderful - we chose the Mezze - and the service was friendly, efficient but completely unobtrusive. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere and Covid compliant. A fabulous and memorable evening !!

Would recommend the tapas as it’s nice to have a little taste of everything. We felt it lacked atmosphere, but that may be down the the covid situation.

We ate from the set menu, the food was lovely. There is some outdoor street seating which was lovely as the weather was great. Staff lovely. Would definitely recommend.

We have been here several times and it’s one of my Stratford favourites. The food is plentiful, varied and delicious and if you have room I would most definitely recommend the 22 meal banquet option - pretty much a little bit of everything. The restaurant is independent and the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome. A Grecian jewel in the heart of Stratford!

We booked a table for 4 at 5pm, arrived early but were seated immediately. We all chose the Mezzez menu and we weren't disappointed. All of the food was hot and delicious, the wine was opened for us, the service quick and friendly but professional. We found it very good value for money. We were all so full at the end because it was very hard to leave any of the food, it was so tasty. We didn't feel rushed despite knowing they were fully booked for the rest of the night. I can't wait to come back and experience a Greek night here when things are back to normal and the events can return.

The food was lovely - a real authentic returant. Waiting staff were very friendly and even came out to sing Happy Birthday to my daughter.

I Came here with work friends. El Greco is fabulous inside and set up really well to meet Covid regulations.The food was superb and along with fantastic service by Imad it all made for a brilliant night out.A must visit restaurant and I look forward to my next visit.

A pleasant restaurant with atmosphere. The distancing measures makes one think of being in private booths. Started with Tri-kala which was a tasty choice and the calamari which was beautifully cooked and soft. Followed by Kleftico which, being lamb, was a little fatty. Surprisingly it was a bit chewey for my taste and I didn’t finish it..however my good lady did! The Greek wine was pleasant and the usual ballpark restaurant price. Yes I’d return and sample other items on the menu ( but still have calamari )

We have been to El Greco many times and have always had a lovely time but when we came for my mother in laws 60th birthday we were blown away by how good it was. The party was a surprise party with over 20 guests and they were incredible. The service was amazing and very personal with the same waiters helping us set up the table, serve drinks (which was frequent) and serve food, helping with any requirements. Their traditional Greek dancing was a highlight and got everyone involved and even with a party so large, the food was perfectly cooked and courses were brought out together. The staff and hosts really are incredible and make every visit enjoyable. Hats off to all the team. We will forever be regulars from now on!

We stopped in Stratford upon Avon on the way back home after a short trip to the Cotswold. We had a previous booking which we had cancelled but the restaurant were able to fit us in without pre-booking. This was the first time that we had ever tried Greek food and chose the 22 dish banquet each. We were not disappointed as every dish was excellent and was served promptly by the waitress Jenny who gave first class service throughout our visit. As to be expected, we could not finish the banquet and without hesitation, Jenny arranged for the remaining food to be packaged for us to take away and enjoy laster. Hasten to add, we will be checking out the Greek restaurants near to where we live to continue our Greek experience.

Brilliant restaurant and outstanding food. The staff were brilliant and the experience excellent. They even decorated the table with a 60 balloon and sprinkles! It’s the little things that go a long way!

Went for lunch to take advantage of the offer.Had the messe which was ok but nothing special.Left a bit disappointed.

i’ve been here for the first time back in January with a friend of mine and i loved the food, service and atmosphere. couldn’t wait to come back! then quarantine happened and i had to wait until now to try again el greco’s amazing food. loved the service again, our waiter was amazing and the food it’s just great!i’ll come back for sure

Food was delicious, service spectacular! Might not have been able to get abroad this year but who needs to with El Greco in the UK! Would thoroughly recommend and looking forward to joining a party night when they start again!
