When out with friends Ego is always our first choice for a meal in a friendly atmosphere. Couldn't wish for better staff and food (of course)

Excellent deal with 50% off steaks and we started with prawn cocktail for my wife, fishcake for me. Service by Verena was great, smiled throughout but the manageress in a green top was grumpy- wrong job?

As ever, food was fantastic, my partner said it was the best steak he'd ever had. Service was a little slow when we arrived but was fine while we were seated. I was taking advantage of a discount code so had to go to rhe till to pay and didn't check my bill. When I got home I realised I'd been overcharged for one item- only a few pounds difference. I went back the next day and a staff member took my details and said the manager would contact me about a refund. Today when I checked my bank account I've had a refund for the whole meal! Wow, thank you Ego I didn't expect that! See you again soon!

Lovely meal with work colleagues for Christmas. Food excellent

Awful service, don't offer pre-theatre if you can't get people through in time: We arrived at 5:30 for a pre-theatre reservation. It took 15 minutes for someone to come and take a drinks order. When we ordered our mains, the server asked if we wanted any starters as it would be at least 25 minutes until food came out - we said no, we were happy to wait. Food took 30 minutes, which we were prepared for. The server rushed off after serving so we weren't able to get any sauces. After we finished, it took 20 minutes for the table to be cleared. When it was cleared, we weren't offered any drinks or dessert menus - we just sat for a further 15 minutes. Tables around us that had left hadn't been cleared and the table behind us had to cancel their mains as they realised they wouldn't have time to eat them before the theatre. We tried to get the attention of our server to get the bill (we would have liked dessert but now didn't have time), who just put up and hand and walked past us. She came back 10 minutes later, then returned shortly with the bill. We then waited a further 15 minutes for her to return with a card reader. During this time, another table walked out having had just wine and starters as their mains had not come out on time. A further table had to shout across the room for the bill as serving staff were ignoring them. Ego, please do not offer a pre-dinner service to diners if you cannot serve quickly enough. We were extremely disappointed. The drink and single course we had were delicious but service was awful.

Visited here as a very large group (22 people) for a family meal just after Christmas. The staff are so lovely as they were last year when we visited as a large group - absolutely no complaints! Left 4 stars for the food as a few of the party had some very minor complaints about the dishes, and also 4 star for atmosphere as we would have preferred to sit on one table rather than two separate ones, but we understand there was probably a reason for this! We had the festive 3 course menu and had to pre-order as we were such a large party. The process for this was so simple, just received a link to the main bonkers email that could be shared among the group, no complaints at all with this. We had a variety of dietary requirements and there was something for everyone to eat, very happy with the range of choices. Overall a really lovely evening and would happily return with our large group again! Thanks very much :-)

Dined here as a family of 7 before going to the pantomime at the Lyceum on 27th December 2023. The food was excellent value for money and well presented, our server Verena was friendly and fun. I would definitely recommend to family and friends. Update - 27th December 2024: As we had such a good experience here last year we dined here again as a family of 7 for my sons 11th birthday before going to the pantomime at the Lyceum on 27th December. The food again was excellent and well presented and our server this time was Dermot who was attentive, very friendly and went the extra mile to make my sons birthday special. I would definitely recommend Ego to family and friends.

It normally irritates me when people leave a negative review for somewhere they never ate at, but on this occasion I think it is justified. We booked a table in advance (for two adults and two young children) and were immediately told on being seated that there was no pizza of any kind available, no garlic bread of any kind, no kids’ chicken and chips, and no fish fingers and chips. There were more things unavailable too but we didn’t wait to hear the whole list as at this point we knew enough that our children couldn’t eat there. Thanks for completely wasting our time and forcing us to traipse round numerous other places trying to find somewhere to feed our little ones at short notice.

Celebrated my birthday here last night and was slightly disappointed. This was my favourite restaurant in Sheffield so was looking forward to celebrating here, but unfortunately, a lack of care and communication made it end poorly. We were made aware months ago when booking that we were entitled to 20% off the a la carte menu, only to be told last night that only a hand full of us can use it (not mentioned in T’s and C’s). We were waiting over 25 minutes at the till to pay, and heard of a mouse running about which put some on edge. Overall, staff were friendly enough and food was fine, but I think they need to focus on their hygiene standards and communication more to make this an enjoyable experience.

I been here before always had a lovely experience before, had a nice meal tonight with a big group of us for a family meal, but unfortunately we were at the front of the restaurant so when the door was opened, numerous people saw a mouse come running in including myself. It was brought to the attention of a waitress just to be told this happens on occasions. Shouldn't be the case when serving food to the public Needs attention!

Food was decent, nothing to rave about, but we saw a mouse scurrying backwards and forwards, and the member of staff we informed couldn't have cared less. Said it was a regular occurrence. I won't be eating here again.

It's a shame I'm having to write a negative review about a restaurant that I have been visiting quite regular over the years, but what on earth has happened to Ego?! Firstly we were left waiting for ages at the door when we arrived. It wasn't the staffs fault, there were hardly any working. Out waitress was lovely, rushed off her feet though. I ordered the gambas, and my daughter chise garlic mushrooms. Both were served in tiny little tin bowls, with the smallest slice of bread on the side. For main course, I had the Moroccan lamb and my daughter had the carbonara. I could not believe how much the portion sizes have shrunk! The lamb used to be served in a small tagine, but this time it was in a small shallow bowl. The carbonara has always been a small portion, but this was ridiculous for the price. We actually came away still hungry. I don't know what Ego are playing at, but at this rate they will lose valuable custom fast. I'm not sure I will be returning anytime soon.

Was served by the fantastic Meg, she was very attentive and polite. Overall the food was good. An item was missing from one of the dishes, which was sorted quickly. Overall a good meal, though very busy the food arrived as quickly as it could have. No complaints here.

Came for Xmas lunch which was very good. Quality food in a nice, if a bit stuffy environment.

The kebab skewers were okay, but I'd recommend the bourguignon more. Service was great and, restaurant was clean.

The set menu was super- 2 courses with steak for £20 on a Saturday lunch! I couldn't believe it and it was yummy. Lovely setting too! Recommend!

This has got to be the best restaurant in Sheffield, we’ve visited a few times now and have never been disappointed, it’s definitely got the wow factor all round, been today for lunch and we’ll be there next time we’re in Sheffield

I recently had a Christmas meal there, and while it might be fantastic for meat-eaters, as a vegetarian, I found it underwhelming. The staff and atmosphere were absolutely wonderful—friendly, polite, and professional. They went above and beyond to provide an excellent customer experience, and I truly appreciated their attentiveness. The starter and dessert were of great quality, but the main course left me disappointed. I ordered the cauliflower steak, which was served with a small portion of pasta, priced at £18. Unfortunately, there was nothing particularly special about the dish—the cauliflower was simply chargrilled. It felt as though being vegetarian was an afterthought. Normally, I’m happy with a good veggie burger or a thoughtful vegetarian option, but this felt overpriced and uninspired. While I admire the staff and the overall dining experience, I wouldn’t return to pay £18 for a dish that lacked creativity or value.

Celebrating daughters graduation I can't fault a thing absolute perfection to every part. The highlight our waiter made it amazing.

Visited for a special lunch in work lunch hour as my wife and I used to like this place to meet for a lunch together in our lunch hour, we don't get much chance now. Don't get me started on text messages and emails constantly confirming your booking, felt like they were trying to get rid of us before we got there...are you sure you are coming, are you....are you....really.... Went on a Wednesday for the Wednesday 2 course menu offer, but had to ask for the menu for that offer - if you have an advertised offer available, don't try and hide it from your customers! We asked for water for the table (and yes we had ordered other drinks too), tap water, as most places provide now without asking, we were brought bottled water and charged, please check if you ask for water and don't want to pay for it because they won't! If you do visit in your lunch hour, make sure they know, we still hadn't received our food an hour after ordering and despite the staffs best efforts to avoid eye contact (why do they do that, its literally their job!?) we did manage catch one to ask them to check on our food, which arrived after another 10 minutes, suspiciously long enough to make the meals... Food was nice enough, but we did have to shovel it down rather quickly. Then the bill came, wrong twice. No apologies for late food or wrong bill. Unfortunately, instead of a place for a nice relaxed lunch in town, it felt like you were there to be processed for as much revenue as possible (which if the service was better, you probably wouldnt notice and mind as much!). Unless you can afford the time and cost, plenty of other places for food in town to try.

It was my first visit here. I booked it because me and my mum like Mediterranean food. We were going to the theatre in the afternoon so I booked my table at 11:45. This place is amazing. Lovely decor. food was outstanding. Nicola our server was so lovely. I have booked to come again in January. I’m so excited to try some more delicious food.

Restaurant very hot and uncomfortable. No Lamb or custard available on a busy Saturday! – which affected a lot of items on the menu. Waited over an hour for main course which resulted in being rushed from our table at the end for another booking so were unable to order 2 for 1 cocktails at the end of the meal as planned. Apple pie still frozen in the centre, was taken away and warmed up however was then hot on outside and cold in centre – good job it wasn’t chicken. Did offer to remove item from bill but then came out with another replacement...? poor communication in the restaurant team. I'm very disappointed with our visit yesterday.

Been here lots of times and this time was a bit disappointed the waitress was just abrupt at all times ,it just spoiled it , little things like cocktails we have always ordered 2 ,had first one then when finished had the second one , just got told no can't do ,no explanation about why , I always been able to get a diane sauce or something other than peppercorn, just told no , it was just how it was handled there is away of saying no with an explanation , it's simple ,I guess you had to be there I have always recommended ego over the years but when service spoils it . The food we had was lovely ,but a smile goes a long way, we did not experience one of the waitress just procedural

Very mixed night. The service couldnt have been slower. It was 20 mins before we were even given menus and the waits continued from there. The Goasts Cheese starter was -amazing- and the King Prawn cocktail was fine. My wife had the lamb tajine and said it was nice but very bland and something we could have done at home. I had the Lemon chicken, the salda was amazing but the chicken was completely flavourless and one of the breasts was heavily burnt all around the edge and soggy underneath. I honestly have no idea how they managed that. But we didnt send it back because of the excessive wait time. I had a mouthful of food when the server came to ask if everything was okay and dissapeared again before I had chance to say anything. We both had a mini pudding and coffee. I had the brownie and a bailies coffee, the brownie was nice and the coffee was one of the best ive had in years. Despite being there for my wifes birthday, I was just discussing with her about giving up on the puddings and going home when they finally arrived. The servers were very plesent and helpful when you had the chance to speak with them. The Mojito mocktail was amazing but give it a good mix before drinking. The food use to be amazing but this is the most dissapointing meal out we have had in months. The good bits were great but too much was underwhelming at best bland at worst. It was my wifes birthday so we also had lunch in Sheffield Plate earlier and we both agreed the food was far better quality there. The wait times were absolutly not acceptiable and we were there at least an hour longer than we would have otherwise been purely because of the waiting.

Great visit for my friend's birthday. Amazing value food and drinks, with us benefitting from the 2 courses for £18.95 deal and the 2 for 1 drinks offer. There was a slight confusion on one order, but the service staff were very understanding and sorted any errors out to ensure all of us were happy with our experience and orders :) Thank you and will definitely return

Update 13/10/24 - another exceptional visit. Special mention to our server Dermot. He was truly amazing, epitomises great customer service, and a credit to the restaurant. Even my birthday dessert was well presented....and thankfully no song!! Ego consistently delivers on food quality, presentation, atmosphere and service! This is my first time visit to their restaurant in Sheffield, but its just as good as the one near Mansfield I've been to on several occasions. I always try and have different dishes and so far I've never had a bad experience. Keep it up Ego and I'm sure I (as many others) will continue to return.

First time last night which was a very busy Saturday evening. Service was lovely but very slow as they were so busy, food was a food standard but cold by the time it arrived and underseasoned. The bar was very dirty but also very busy.

Came for our anniversary on a quiet Sunday. Food was great, service was excellent - especially Dermot!

Dermot our server was a star. Super friendly and attentive. Fabulous chicken and lamb souvlaki to start!

Food was wonderful with lots of choice. Service was excellent without any long delays even through it was very busy. My only small negative was it was very, very loud and it was difficult to have a conversation at times. Cocktails were fab and prices very reasonable given the standard of the food. We will be back but maybe not on a Saturday afternoon.

The staff were very friendly but we struggled to get their attention a few times. Whether it was due to it being busy or being sat on an edge I'm not sure but when they came by they were friendly and happy to help. We had a few different meals and some dishes were fantastic however one of them was a little small and bland in comparison. The atmosphere was nice too though I think due to the layout it got a bit hard to talk to anyone else on the table due to the noise.

If I could give more than 5 stars for the service I would! The food were really nice too, came hot fresh and lovely flavors! Very reasonably priced too.

I have been to Egos on many occasions and it has always been lovely and the service good too. However on the 2nd October it was my twin girls birthday so I thought that I would treat them at Egos but unfortunately it was a real let down. My mum and I had duo of pork which came with dauphinoise potatoes, the pork was dry and so we're the potatoes and to top it off both my mum and I had an upset stomach for the rest of the day. Also the service was no where near as good as it had been in the past , I even had to get my own bottle of wine from the bar as it was just left there . Not happy

Brilliant offer for two of two starters and two mains and a bottle of wine £40 and the good was lovely.

I don't like spices, so found the menu limited. Have previously loved the skewers but chicken now piri piri. I had the chicken supreme which was lovely, but my prawn cocktail starter was spoilt with too much peppery spice on top.

Always a pleasant experience but the menu could do with a few more options. Every time we go, there seems to be something missing from the menu that we have had before.

Great food …. Shame about the restaurant. Dirty toilets and the whole place could do with a deep clean. Light fittings dirty . Waitress seated a couple to a table with a ripped seat. They left 10 minutes after sitting down. No one asked if the food was ok or did we have everything we needed.

Went Egos in Sheffield. The 3 stars is really because when we arrived, we were the only people in. We did go at 12 o'clock though. Dermot, one of the person who looked after us explained that due to there being no matinee at the theaters it is quiet like this. The food came quickly and was great, all 3 courses.

Nice brunch. Slightly limited menu choice as we had 3 of the party heading for a train in 1 hour 30 mins. Order got a bit muddled by the server but his honesty saved the day and every one was very happy

Food was absolutely delicious especially the salmon fish cake and the steaks. Utterly delicious. Service was a little bit slow but staff very friendly and lovely.

The noise levels were unbearable. Can’t you do something to reduce it? My friends and i are all starting to have hearing problems so we could not have normal conversations. We have decided to look for a quieter venue for our post-theatre meals, which is a great shame, as we love the food and service is excellent.

Pre theatre meal, efficient service let down by the meal, reduced portions, main course, chicken supreme, dry and unappealing, dessert (brownie) dry.£90 for that! All in all rubbish. Need to up their game. Used to be very good, not on this occasion!

Food and drink were great but we found it really uncomfortable as there was no ait conditioning on and it was extremely hot and humid. Disappointing as I've wanted to go there for years.

Went in for lunch on a Saturday, staff were really friendly and food delicious, fairly expensive however for a city centre I feel this is to be expected and it was a great experience overall. The tiramisu torte was delicious!

We went for the fixed priced menu here on Sunday, which also meant we could get 2 for 1 cocktails making the whole experience really good value for money. Nice place, loved being able to see the plants through the window. Staff were also excellent and attentive. Do wish there was more than 1 main option on the fixed menu that was veggie/vegan but the one that they had was very nice.

Steak amazing as usual. Great service, great good, excellent.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff ready to make the guests feel comfortable and happy. The place feels suitable to all ages.The food was a dish of pasta linguine with prawns and a dish of steak and chips with peppercorn sauce. All of us felt the taste as well as the food presentation was average. I suppose the staff and the interior of the restaurant make up for the average taste of the food.

Great place for lunch and cocktails on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly, attentive staff. Good fixed price lunch menu and 2 for 1 cocktails. What’s not to like?
