this place is comparable to hell, went with my buddy davie and we both thought it smelled of musty batter and moist dog feet. I ordered a simple fish supper and it came about 20 minutes later damp and room temperature WITHOUT A KNIFE AND FORK. wouldn't even feed it to my dog if i had one which i don't because of childhood trauma involving chihuahuas in arkansas. We decided to give this place a last try. What a mistake. This is the worst fish supper we have ever had. The fish had obviously been reheated it was burnt at the end. The batter was cheugh (tough). Could hardly bit through it. The fish had large bone and skin at the end. As for the chips they were hard and the portion would hardly have fed a toddler never mind an adult. We used to love this wee chip shop and always used it if we were in Saltcoats. We have sat in the restaurant serveral times too for a fish tea. Dont know what has happened but we have both vowed never to visit again and have already warned several friends to stay away after our experience. So sad because it is so handy to the beach. How people gave five star reviews for this place is amazing after our dreadful experience

4 of us ate here ((my mum, wife, son and myself) after a day out in Saltcoats, I ended up with a sore stomach and my wife after having the steak pie and chips, my mum used the tomato sauce on the table for her meal hamburger and chips, she couldn't eat the food after, it tasted like vinegar. I complained and got a, we can replace it but you will have to pay for another meal. I reckon someone had put vinegar into the bottle as the colour was a lot lighter than it should have been. I won't go again.

Food is excellent, cant fault it. We travel from glasgow every few months to visit the sit in area. Only down side is the waiting staff, every time we visit they seem very unhappy to be there, none of us want to work but at-least don’t let your customers see. Huffing and snide remarks and unhelpful. Usually we can ignore this but the girl today attitude just stank. Really ruins the atmosphere of the diner.

good for fish and chips, eating in the restaurant part is fine with decent service and nice food, the carry out is a shambles if they have to cope with more than a couple of people, expect long delays with no one knowing what's going on and you may strand for a long time before anyone even takes your order or serves customers on a kind of last in first served basis. apart from that issue then it pretty good.

Had been told this was a great place for fish and chips and we were not disappointed - great price for crisp batter, delicious fish and non greasy yummy chips all wrapped up in paper and newspaper, the good old fashioned way (those polystyrene trays are death to fish and chips making them all sweaty and soggy). We were served by a friendly young man behind the counter who seemed rather amused as we were excited about them selling Edinburgh Rock, buckets and spades etc. Reminded me of seaside holidays when I was wee. Been there 29.05.2016 @ 1500hrs Place itself very poorly covered with eating choices. First time we wanted to have a classics "fish and chips" to take it somewhere outside. Queuing of few people didn't seem to be moving, but still waiting as very hungry. First on in queue got his meal. Smells nice, but immediately wrapped into a paper type metro or... very healthy choice. Gave up and walked away.Took my family for a walk around in hope we find something else. Unfortunately nothing. We came back and decided to try sit in version instead of previous take away.First impression, ok.. a wee place. Not a single hello or hi.. we took a sit at one of the middle table. Table was well worn and Dirty, but hungry.By Grabbing a menu i find it dirty of brown sauce. At this moment staff(young lassie) arrived at the table, and instead of hello or welcome or at least a little smile she just barked: whit yous havin? Still hungry. But cannot help myself to point on dirty environment of table and menu. She said she thought it was cleaned and walked away. She came back with not damp but well wet cloth and washed whole table and menu with it and left it wet as it was. We ordered fish and chips thinking it must be nice at a seaside. She came back again and dropped the cutlery with napkins onto that wet table. Good enough so i could use it to clean and dry the table. During the waiting for our "food" it looked they must have gone to catch the fish onto sea. Finally it comes.Very pleased staff drops the plates onto table without any single word. Let's try it. What the sugar is it? You can get much better fish in the any roughest hole in Glasgow. Muddy consistency of the something called a fish was obviously frozen before frying. Absolutely disgusting. At least chips were edible, however the portion was smaller than small. This staff hates their job and they make sure the customers can see it very well. The business that doesn't value their customers does not deserve their customers money.Never again this place.

While in Salcoats on a cold February day we chanced upon the Eglinton Diner (Cafe) down a sidestreet off the main shopping area. We were there at lunchtime and found the staff extremely helpful and friendly and we couldn't believe the low prices on show. We both settled for a "Fish TEa" - in Scotland this is fish&chips, buttered bread and tea or coffee. I don't drink either so had a can of Diet Irn Bru (Scotland's other national drink). We opted for the 'small portion' of the Fish Tea at an unbelievable low price of only £3.00 per head (I paid 50p for the soft drink). The food was excellent and not at all a 'small portion' as stated on the menu! The Cafe was busy, clean and had a nice homely atmosphere, even for lunchtime. There's plenty to choose from the menu and even have a Carry OUt section next door if you feel like sitting at the seafront a short walk away (not for a cold February though!). We will definitely drop-in for another Fish Tea the next time we are in Saltcoats.

I travelled up from Kilwinning because I’d heard so much about the fish and chips and the large portion sizes. The fish was not a full angel cut but half of one. Anywhere else selling this size of fish would have served two pieces. I’m glad they didn’t though because I don’t think I’ve never had so greasy a fish batter in my life. I’d be surprised if the oil temp was above 120c. A real disappointment given the great reviews.
