Popped up to minehead harbour for a walk and stopped off here for a quick bite. Currently not open for sitting in, but open when weather permits. Staff were very welcoming and friendly, we ordered a cheese and onion toasty with a coffee and a bacon and brie roll with a can of pop. They take both cash and contactless payments at safe distance. Drinks were delivered almost immediately, food followed shortly afterwards. The toasty was packed with cheese and red onion on seeded toast, the wife loved it and my bacon and brie roll had good thick well cooked bacon with nice thick slices of brie on top and in between on a very fresh soft roll which was spread with red current jelly adding a lovely sweetness to the lightly salty bacon and brie. It was £13 all in and I cannot fault the food or service at all, and as it is right on the harbour, you also get an amazing peaceful view as well. They have a great assortment of foods to suit most people including varied dietary requirements, soups, sandwiches, cream teas both sweet and savoury, even doggy ice cream for your pets.

Quite simply, this cafe has it all, silky smooth lattes, decadent hot chocolates, sumptuous ice creams and a banging toastie! I’ve given the Bacon and Brie bap it’s own paragraph because…quite simply it deserves it. Crispy bacon, smothered in molten Brie topped with tangy cranberry all wrapped in a warm, soft bap like a hug from an angel! Walking down the promenade in the main town you may be forgiven for thinking you’ve stumbled into a casting couch for the Jeremy Kyle show however venture down to the harbour and Echo beach will soothe all of your woes. I don’t work here, just a man who appreciates a finely made sandwich.

After the disappointment of a £5+ bacon sarnie in Woolacombe, this was a delight to behold. Plentiful crispy bacon (still hot), buttered soft bread roll. Ding dong. I was a happy chappy. Sat out in the early morning sun by the harbour. Still £4.50 or so but that seems to be the price around here.

We've been visiting this delightful cafe for a weekend breakfast for several months and have enjoyed the setting and the menu. We're always disappointed if the outside tables are full and we have to eat inside, as was today's experience. As it's a weekend visit and a busy time, we have always accepted a bit of a wait before the order arrives, but today we waited for more than 50 minutes for an order of a toasted teacake and a bacon bap. Our order of coffees arrived within 10 mins but these were drunk well before the food arrived. After such a long and unacceptable wait, we asked for our money back and left without having our breakfast. We were told that the delay was due to a small kitchen and a busy time but seeing the operations up close as we were sitting next to the kitchen, we saw that rather than preparing each order individually and waiting for the food to cook, it would have been more sensible to prepare several orders at the same time; e.g. why wait for one rasher of bacon to cook for an individual order when you could cook enough rashers at the same time for other orders with the same components? This is simple multitasking which takes place in all domestic kitchens. The cook may have worked steadily and without stress by doing each task methodically but the result was several disgruntled customers asking the staff if they had forgotten their order. Not sure if we'll go back in a hurry unless we are one of few customers which seems all the staff can cope with.

We stopped here because it was advertising gluten free cream teas. The rest of our party had already had cream teas elsewhere but the wheat-intolerant member of the group hadn't been able to enjoy one so this was perfect. The gluten free scone was big and tasty, servied with plenty of damson jam and clotted cream and a great pot of tea. As an added bonus, it was the same price as the normal cream tea (how nice not to be charged extra). The others in the group enjoyed (another!) normal cream tea and a huge slice of the passion cake, with drinks. The service was quick and friendly. The cafe was very busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon but we didn't feel rushed. We were going to take a light lunch here - the cake section looked appetising, the sun was shining on the harbourside tables outside, and the prices were reasonable. We ordered veggie breakfasts and were kept waiting nearly an hour until our food arrived. When it did finally arrive the waitress apologised for the delay and did not offer an explanation. I complained when we left the cafe and was tarty told "we already said sorry ". I pointed out that people who arrived after us were served ahead of us, had finished and left before we were even served. "We were busy" was the nastily delivered response. Well I'm sorry too: sorry that I paid in advance as after 45 minutes of taking my order when they still hadn't started cooking my meal, I would have legged it to one of the many good, friendly cafes in the town. I'm sorry that the staff were so casual about their incompetence -we were left ravnously hungry and a free cuppa would have helped. I'm sorry that there was no explanation -was it a mistake and you gave our meals to the wrong people? Was it personal? I will never know because you couldn't be bothered to explain. I'm sorry that the spirit of Fawlty Towers lives on in the West Country.
